[SOLVED]dd not writing anything to disk with sync being used.
I just want to post here to try and figure out what was going on here, I was trying to use dd to create a bootable arch usb. I've done similar things a half dozen times so I didn't think much of it. I unmounted the usb drive I wanted with
umount /dev/sdb1
then ran the dd command
sudo dd bs=4M if=archlinux-2013.12.01-dual.iso of=/dev/sbd && sync
130+1 records in
130+1 records out
547356672 bytes (547 MB) copied, 0.188795 s, 2.9 GB/s
now as you can see from the time it took (0.188795s !) it didn't actually write any files. So, after I spent far too long messing about, I decided dd was causing the problem and so used dcfldd
sudo dcfldd bs=4M if=archlinux-2013.12.01-dual.iso of=/dev/sdb && sync
which ended up solving the problem. can anyone explain why this was happening in the first place?
Oh and when I first tried it I got this due to using lowercase m (in case that's relevant):
dd bs=4m if=archlinux-2013.12.01-dual.iso of=/dev/sbd
dd: invalid number ‘4m’

Your failed attempts mention sbd and your successful attempt mentions sdb. If that's not just a typo then it'd certainly explain the problem.

my ipad 2 did its own update as usual ( 7.0 to 7.1) except this time it will not load anything to do with game center even its own app............is there anything I can do?
Try closing all of the apps on your iPad and then reset the device.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it. Close every app this way.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
my samsung says video out from i pad is not supported. i am connecting with apple dock using hdmi. I do get the audio any suggestions?
Jeffrey-
If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input? I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried. I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

Thank you for the information, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how you are wondering if your desktop computer's hard disk is caching is being used, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
For caching on your computer, you will have needed to install one of the following drives:
1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
128 GB SATA Solid State Drive
256 GB SATA Solid State Drive
It is likely that this caching drive will be shown in Disk Management, which can be accessed by following this document on Partitioning and Naming Drives (Windows 8). It is important to note that an mSATA drive will not be visible in Windows, if you have one installed. You will also need to have Intel RST software installed.
I hope this helps!

Process not writing to JMS queue with non-xa data source
I have a process reading from a JMS-AQ with non XA, but it does not seem to be performing a commit and writing to the queue. If I use XA all the way ut works, but I don't get the desired error handling which I have built. Anything obvious I am missing? 11.1.1.5 SOA
Hi,
Under Weblogic JDBC Datasources select the datasource and then select Transaction tab there you can find Use XA datasource interface.
and In DB adapter ... go to Configuration Tab ---Outbound Connection Pool--- Unhide the pool group -Select JNDI name ( e.g eis/DB/local ) ---enter the JDBC datasource created earlier in weblogic JDBC datasource against xADataSourceName..
Now Click on Transaction tab & select Transaction Support: as XA Transaction .

Hi I recently upgraed to iOS 6.1 on my Iphone 5. After the upgrade, it was all good. Over the weekend I went Austria for Ski. While taking the photos, I simply locked the phone and kept it my pocket as I had to go. After sometime when I opened my phone, I could hardly see anything. I tried to unlock with pin and tried restarting with great difficulty. But nothing worked. Coming back home today, I have tried restore the software and still no luck. I have tried restore almost 5 to 6 times, but the screen is still blank. I dont know if what state it is in and I can not do anything to fix it. I am very annoyed with the support service as they can not be reached on Sunday evening.
I could manage to book a call tomorrow but I have lot of work over next few days at work. Can someone please help how to fix this issue now? Any suggestions will be much apperciated.
Thanks,

[SOLVED] Can not shutdown/restart from KDE with systemd
Hello,
Recently, following I switched to a pure systemd setup. The process was simple and most things worked "right out of the bpx". However, I can not shutdown or restart from KDE!
Let's say that I do the 3 finger salute (ALT-CTRL-DEL) and select "Turn off computer" what I get is KDE shutting down, but then I will only get a console (TTY) login prompt. Pressing ALT-CTRL-DEL then will trigger a reboot. I can also login and use "systemctl poweroff". However, I don't understand why it doesn't work straight from KDE.
Are there some packages I must install? Are there some systemd services that I must enable? What other relevant info should I include in this post?

As bgc1954 said, there is also a symlink "/sbin/poweroff". Just edit the file "/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc", go to [shutdown] an replace the line "HaltCmd=/sbin/halt" with "HaltCmd=/sbin/poweroff". -
How can I run the hardware test on a macbook pro that SHIPPED with lion (never had an earlier OS) without access to the install disks? I am away from them and home for several months. Holding down the D key does nothing.
Press "Option" and "D" key together.
"Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. I just want to know how to sync with the new itunes11! Why is this dated stuff still here when I have just downloaded? You update me but refuse to add the instructions on use? What on EARTH?!
As to actually doing the sync, you have two choices:
1) You can click the button for your device in the top bar and you'll get the normal sync page as described in the documentation;
2) You can select to show the sidebar under the View menu in iTunes, after which the directions will work exactly as before.

Bonjour not finding anything from PC with Multiple NICs
We have two Network Interface Cards in each workstation at work to access two separate Physical Networks. Both networks provide access to ZeroConf (Bonjour) IP Printers.
Bonjour discovery fails intermittently on the two different networks. Occasionally Printers on one network, the other network, both or neither are visible from various workstations.
Is mDNSResponder aware of multiple NICs? Is there a way to force mDNSResponder to only search for printers on a particular subnet? The second network adapter was installed after the VPC, indeed.
In the dropdown menu in the VPC networking settings there was only one network adapter to chose because the description for both physical network cards were the same. Therefore I cannot assign for virtual NICs different physical network adapters.
Finally I coped with the problem:
- I uninstalled one of the adapters (removing the drivers, too),
- edited the INF file in the adapter drivers and changed the description of the adapter
- I reinstalled the adapter with the altered driver (with the INF file changed).
Then, in the VPC networking settings both physical adapters appeared (one with the altered description).
I Wonder if that will cause any problems later ;)
Thanks for your replies :) -

As I try with iTunes, it runs very slow and show that it had problem, need to restore it.

Ipod not updating songs, but disk space is still used? HELP
Okay, I got my video ipod 30gb on my birthday june 2 and it's worked fine all this time. Yesterday, i accidentally unplugged it while it said 'do not disconnect' and now all my songs are gone, but it still says 4.94GB / 22.89 used. There are no error messages popping up or anything, i have tried to restore my ipod and it cleared it, so i thought okay and i redownloaded all 800 songs i had and put them in the ipod. Yet when i unplugged it (this time the right way) it still showed i had 0 songs 0 everything! How do I fix this? Do I need a new ipod?
I have the same problem, but in addition to that I got another problem. When I realised that my iPod suddenly was empty I connected it to the Mac, but then a picture appeared of a magnifying glass and a disk, and a progress bar. I guess this is some kind of disk check program. The problem is that the progress bar stops at about 90%!
Since this process is started every time I connect to the computer, I can´t restore the iPod.. What am I supposed to do now?
