[Solved] - Files in /modprobe.d/ seem to be ignored

Hi,
excuse my english.
My problem is that the configuration files in /etc/modprobe.d seem to be ignored by the system.
I want that
-The module "ums_realtek" is blacklisted or loaded with the parameter "ss_en=0"
-The module "snd_hda_intel" is loaded with the parameters "model=acer-aspire-4930g enable_msi=1"
So I put in the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
[siv@siv-arch ~]$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-4930g enable_msi=1
options ums-realtek ss_en=0
But it doesn't work. Infact after the boot if I see this:
[siv@siv-arch ~]$ systool -v -m ums_realtek
Module = "ums_realtek"
Attributes:
coresize = "7391"
initsize = "0"
initstate = "live"
refcnt = "0"
srcversion = "7211D16D16BECBF334341D5"
taint = ""
uevent = <store method only>
version = "1.03"
Parameters:
auto_delink_en = "1"
ss_delay = "50"
ss_en = "1"
Sections:
.data = "0xffffffffa027c560"
.exit.text = "0xffffffffa027c2c1"
.gnu.linkonce.this_module= "0xffffffffa027c740"
.init.text = "0xffffffffa027e000"
.note.gnu.build-id = "0xffffffffa027c2d4"
.rodata = "0xffffffffa027c300"
.rodata.str1.1 = "0xffffffffa027c3fe"
.rodata.str1.8 = "0xffffffffa027c450"
.strtab = "0xffffffffa027ea88"
.symtab = "0xffffffffa027e020"

__mcount_loc = "0xffffffffa027c4d8"
__param = "0xffffffffa027c478"
__verbose = "0xffffffffa027c710"
and the option "ss_en" is set to "1" instead of "0"

Thanks root, I checked the mkinitcpio.conf and the hook modconf was there.
HOOKS="base udev autodetect modconf block filesystems keyboard fsck"
Despite that I tried:
mkinitcpio -p linux
And now it seems work fine. Both modules load with parameters written in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
Now I have another problem.
I have an Acer  6930g with the 5.1 audio. But the subwoofer not working. I have tried everything with alsamixer.
If i do:
[root@siv-arch ~]# aplay -L

Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

[root@siv-arch ~]#
I see that I have the ALC888. Surfing on web I found that I have to load the snd_hda_intel with the parameter "model=acer-aspire-4930g" or "model=auto" but it doesn't work.
Suggestions?
Thanks a lot
P.S.
I have Archlinux with XFCE but for few hours I tried KDE and with it the audio worked! Also the mixer integrated in KDE showed me different card (ALC888 digital, ALC888 analog...). Instead XFCE show me only one card that doesn't work properly.

    I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
    Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
    Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
    I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
    Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
    Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
    The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
    Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
    Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

  • Genius Bar lost a business file. Can't seem to find it in Time Machine...Got Ideas?

    Genius Bar lost a business financial file. Can't seem to find it in Time Machine. Gone back several days...Got Ideas?

    You need to give me more info..
    What did you take the Mac to the genius for??
    What did they do to it?
    Did you have TM setup at defaults doing backups hourly?
    Are you using a Time Capsule? Did you ever backup the time capsule??
    Please do a backup of your Time Machine backup right now.. in TC plug in a suitable sized USB drive and do an archive.. you can do nothing else while this is happening but it is crucial for you to have another copy of whatever you have.
    Archive is a bit slow.. and the backup is slightly less useful.
    The fastest method is plug the USB into your computer and copy and paste  the backups.backupdb directly to the USB drive. It should copy at around 60GB/hr so calculate how long that will take. See instructions here. http://pondini.org/TM/18.html Assuming you are using a TC then you use method 4.. copying from a Network backup to local drive.
    Never work directly from the original backup .. work just from this copy so anything you do can be reversed or recovered.
    Read very carefully the methods of restoring files from TM.. it is a bit out of date but Pondini has the best details.
    So Q14-17 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    You can do a full recovery of the backup to a USB drive.. and then search for your file in more normal way.
    Get professional help.. and this is where you need data recovery people who are familiar with apple TM backup format. Check local apple store or perhaps better local Apple independent repair business that are used to handling this kind of event.
    Also talk to the company that makes the software as they must have to deal with people who manage to lose, corrupt or in some other way ruin their data and need to recover.. see what hints they can give you.
    Surely at some point you pass your info to your accountant in the form of a computer backup file from your accounting package.
    I have to admit I am surprised if you never backed up your business data file to a USB stick and put it in a filing cabinet at home or a hard disk at a friends place.. Cloud storage for your business files.. Did you depend totally on TM for backups? You never planned for a fire or theft of your computer and TC?? Or what has happened.. loss of computer files and failure of the backup? No greater teacher than the burnt hand that touching hot stuff isn't a good idea. Sorry .. it is a very hard lesson.. but electronic data storage on magnetic media is ever one byte away from being gone forever.. !!

  • After upgrade, options in xorg.conf seem to be ignored

    I have a dual-monitor configuration. Although similar, both screens are not identical, so I wanted the slightly larger screen to be the primary screen, and on the left side.
    After the installation of Arch Linux, the default configuration was the opposite, i.e. the smaller screen, which is on my right, was identified as the primary screen, and displayed the left part of the desktop. So, I looked for some solution, and I came up with the options "RightOf" and "Primary" which I wrote in the xorg.conf file.

  • Data definition trigger seems to be ignored

    Hi, I am learning about building my own reports through data definitions (I don't have access to Reports Builder in the envionment I work on). Everything works well, except the before or after trigger. It seems to be ignored constantly. I have tried to submit and request, call any procedure, insert simple package body or insert statement - none of them worked. I don't have access to SQL Developer, so I cannot register new package with trigger proc.
    Does anyone know why I am not even getting any message? I was looking at below many times to see if there is any typo. OPP log does not show any error message, request completes fine, just nothing happens with the trigger.

  • [SOLVED] Files in the /tmp directory are being deleted

    Hi,
    I've been using Arch Linux for four weeks, but have now come across a problem which I can't fix after trying to search for a solution (and also checking to see if anyone also had the same problem). I would appreciate any help you can give.
    A few days ago the web browsers I use (chromium and opera) lost their profile settings, and I had to set the profiles. This kept happening and the indicator of the problem was that I use profile-sync-daemon for both web browsers, which uses the /tmp directory. I then started noticing that a file I created in /tmp disappeared which pointed me to the fact that something was cleaning up the /tmp directory (this seems to happen hourly).
    A quick search led me to systemd-tmpfiles and the /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf file. I have not modified the file, and if I have read it correctly only files in the /tmp directory that are more than 10 days old are deleted. I boot every day, so no files should be deleted by systemd-tmpfiles (unless I've misunderstood tmpfiles.d).
    Here is the tmp.conf file anyway:
    $ cat /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf
    # This file is part of systemd.
    # systemd is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it
    # under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by
    # the Free Software Foundation; either version 2.1 of the License, or
    # (at your option) any later version.
    # See tmpfiles.d(5) for details
    # Clear tmp directories separately, to make them easier to override
    d /tmp 1777 root root 10d
    d /var/tmp 1777 root root 30d
    # Exclude namespace mountpoints created with PrivateTmp=yes
    x /tmp/systemd-private-*
    x /var/tmp/systemd-private-*
    X /tmp/systemd-private-*/tmp
    X /var/tmp/systemd-private-*/tmp
    The /etc/tmpfiles.d directory is empty, so /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d is the only location for the tmpfiles.d config files:
    $ ls /etc/tmpfiles.d/
    $
    Here is the list of packages I upgraded/installed for the last few days. systemd 207-3 seems the likeliest candidate, but I have not come across any reports about the problem I am having.

    I think I have found the problem.
    There was a gnome update earlier in the week. gnome-settings-daemon runs an hourly housekeeping job. I had set the "Automatically Purge Temporary Files" in the Privacy tab when setting up my laptop last month.
    gnome-settings-daemon has decided to delete files in the /tmp directory (I can trigger this by clicking "Purge Temporary files" which then deletes my files in the /tmp directory). This does not happen in the previous gnome-settings-daemon. Anyway, I'll mark the thread SOLVED if my file in the /tmp directory survives the hour!

  • How do i get my file back when it seems to have been lost or replaced?

    My Mac froze and then shut down so i started it up again to find my indesign file had been replaced with a much older file with practically no work on. I closed the document and tried opening it again but it now will just open as a much older file. I think my file has been completely lost and it had so much work ok.

    Yes I have checked but cannot find an alternative file. It seems to have saved over my most recent file.
    I have followed

    Hi!
    I was trying to sync my music from my Macbook to my iPhone 5 and accidentally restored the phone to some previous version that I had. In the process, I managed to lose all of my pictures, contacts, text messages, etc. I need some of that back. My computer seems to have the .ap files, but I cannot open them. Is there any way to get my pictures back at the very least?
    Thanks

    The last backup I have is not recent enough to get my pictures back. Is there a way to get the pictures without using backup or iCloud?

  • File in InDesign CS2 seems locked - can't select anything

    I've received an InDesign file from a client and am trying to open it in CS2. It opens fine and other than some missing fonts which is easily fixed there are no problems. I do have problems when I try and select any of the objects - picture boxes or text - I can't seem to select anytghing. The layers are not locked and everything appears ok. Even when I "select all" nothing is selected. It's like the whole file is locked however when I check (apple-I, I'm on a MAC) the file is marked as both read and write as it should be. I get the feeling this is something really simple and I'll feel like an idiot when it's pointed out to me but I'm at my wit's end. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    OK, THANK YOU!!! That did it. I knew it would be something stupidly simple. I'd never think someone would work that way and wouldn't have looked there.
    Thanks.

  • I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files (not i-tunes purchases) which I just can't get into my i-tunes library. File converters don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

    I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files which I can't get into i-tunes. When the library was in Windows, i-tunes would convert the files automatically, but this doesn't happen now. I've downloaded a couple of file converters, but these don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

    iTunes for Windows (but not iTunes for Mac) can import and convert unprotected WMA tracks. If the tracks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) then it will not accept them.
    One option would be to install iTunes on your PC, do the conversion, and then transfer the converted tracks from iTunes on your PC to iTunes on your Mac.

  • [solved] files in /var/log and their ownership

    Is there a reason why all the system log files are mode 640?
    So far I'm in love with Linux (Arch especially) and really enjoy using terminal windows and logging in as root to do productive things (I really do love command-line-wrangling -- my first computer was a DOS machine), but it really seems like an unnecessary hoop to jump through to have to log in as root just to view a log file.
    Is there any compelling reason to not set these log files mode 644? If there's no specific reason, could changes be made to have this be default behavior?

    Logs can of course contain some sensitive info and I would say it's a good thing that the defaults provide a little security.
    WorMzy wrote:I can't see any problem with you manually modifying the permissions on your log files. They're there for your benefit after all.
    Adding yourself to the log group as Radioactiveman says is easier (and pretty much the same question was answered here maybe a week ago).
