[SOLVED] Initial Network config

New installation. From the install media my virtual machine's wired NIC comes up automatically.  Booting into my install though has no interface.
"ip addr" only shows a loopback.
I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … de#Wired_2 and copied "[email protected]" to /etc/systemd/system/. Edited the file and changed the Alias line to
Alias=multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]
eno2s0 is the name of the interface I got from using "ip link"
When the system turns on and I login, it takes a while but eventually a message is shown...
[ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net-devices-eth0.device.
[ DEPEND ] Dependency failed for dhcpcd on eth0.
[ OK ] Reached target Mutli-User.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
Any idea's what I have done wrong?
*Edit*
Using "systemctl start dhcpcd@enp2s0" works great.  Using  "systemctl enable dhcpcd@enp2s0" command seems to be accepted however I am still only presented a loopback upon a reboot.
Last edited by Swarfega (2013-02-06 09:17:02)

Also, I am not sure if you copied and pasted or this is just a typo, but you put "eno2s0" in your Alias, but a couple lines down you indicate that your interface is "enp2s0"... maybe that might have something to do with it?
Edit: BTW, for now, just use what the above post tells you, which is to use the dhcpcd.service.  It will attempt to apply dhcpcd on all interfaces, so unless you have multiple interfaces connected on boot, it should be fine.

  • I have been trying to reinstall my PhotoSmart309a. Network config report says its disabled - how to

I have been reinstalling my Photosmart 309a and when doing the wireless network set up - it never finds the network so I ran a network config page and it says my wireless is disabled.  I have restored all network settings and shut off the printer/restarted with #6 depressed as I restarted (tip from HP support) and not no avail.  My printer can still not find the network.  This has typically been very easy to setup but something has happened.
Any suggestions as to how to ENABLE the wireless on the printer???
    Please help.
    RGAonline

    Hi RGAonline,
If you connect a Ethernet cable from the printer to the router does the network configuration page show an IP address?
    Use Wireless Setup Wizard
Write down your network name (SSID) and WEP key or WPA passphrase.
    Turn on wireless radio.
    Press Setup.
    Highlight Network and press OK.
Highlight Wireless Radio and press OK.
    Highlight On and press OK.
    Start Wireless Setup Wizard.
Highlight Wireless Setup Wizard and press OK.
Highlight your network name and press OK
Follow the prompts on display to complete connection.
Press OK to print a network configuration page.

  • Initializing network failed PXI 8186...

    Hai
I configured a PXI 8186 and set a network IP address to it. After that i installed labview RT 7.0, i received prompt message saying that there are already some installed components those should be uninstalled before installing this version. I clicked Ok, after this the system is not booting up or so it looks like.
the message on the monitor looks like "initializing network...Failed" and it stops there
can any body tell me what is the problem and how do i solve it?
any help would be very useful
    Thanx
    Arun

    Hello Arun,
I think the best bet at this point would be to try and boot the 8186 into safe mode. Once in safe mode, we should be able to access the controller through the network and reinstall software or reformat the controller.
Ive attached a link below to the Users Manual for the 8186. Details on booting the controller into safe mode via the BIOS and the configuration switches are on pages 2-8 and 2-11, respectively.
    PXI-8186 User Manual
I hope this helps out. Please let me know if this does not get your controller communicating on the network.

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation - stuck at initial network setup

    Hi !
We installed Solaris 8 Intel (Europe/ger) on a PIII and are stuck in the
network config. It asks for systemname, ip,subnet, domain, dns.. (our settings are ok for sure)
but when whe click the confirm-button it reads some error message
    (translated):
'Error during system configuration. Go back and check your settings'
    An interesting fact:
The net seems to work, the machine's got its ip and we can ping it from outside.
WE JUST CAN'T FINISH THE SETUP TOOL (Interactive Install).
What we already did is configure the gatway in etc/defaultrouter, and
with route add default. The router is in the same network, and it's ok.
    System:
    PIII/700 on
    ASUS P3BF
SCSI Adaptec 29160 (driver found on http://www.adaptec.com)
    ATI Rage Pro 3D
    3C905B FastEthernet-XL
(By the way, the NIC works fine, didn't expierience any problems)
    Thank you in advance !

Oh. One more thing. You may want to install this system
as a standalone system, i.e. do NOT configure it as a networked
system. Then, once all installation is complete, then go back and
    change to network config.
    Try this. Thx. Tushar Patel.

  • |SOLVED] Initial start of ArchLinux installation stops on Dell M6500

    Hello everybody,
I'm switching my work station to a Dell Precision M6500. So I downloaded the 2012.11.01 installation media, verified checksum, dd it onto a usb key, boot on it and when I choose "Boot Arch Linux (either x86_64 or i686), the starting script stops after either
"Reached target Sound Card" or after "Started Login Service" which are printed in a random order in all startup attempts I made.
    - Both these steps are marked as "[OK]".
    - I don't see any failure message on any message printed before.
    - When I run the Hardware Detection Tools, my sound card is found under the PCI devices as:
      Vendor: Intel Corporation
Product: 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition
What else could I test/change to debug/fix this?
Since I need this workstation to be operational today I downloaded an arch linux image before the switch to systemd (this initialisation steps look to be systemd related since I never saw them on my 3 other stations having arch linux and I havent switched yet), and will start the install from this image soon to be able to work.

Ok I found the solution: there is an hardware switch on this laptop for the wireless card. When it is disabling the wireless card this block the step related to network interfaces in the initialisation. This was easier to spot with initscripts since initscripts was blocked in the "Initializing network interfaces step".In my humble opinion it would be great if systemd was displaying like initscripts the step it is trying to achieve since it is a lot easier to diagnose at blocked start this way.
    Anyway, marking this as solved

    Good day Wizzard,
The uninstall and reinstall did not work..if fact it disabled the router and put me back to doing a complete uninstall of everything..all the software, reset the router, only then would it work but with the same problem..I have been in live chat with three different techs and they all have a different solution...one thinks my adaptor might be at fault..don't buy that, one suggested I upgrade my firmware but when I log on to check for updates it tells me I have the latest verison..1.01.9, the version listed on the Linksys site for latest version for the WRT150N and the other one didn't seem to have a clue before we got cut off...so, I am back to where I was..able to access the net and can do so with no problem...it's just that I have to do a power down and power up before I can log on to the router...I use Windows for my connection..I don't know why the uninstall and the reinstall did what it did but I do not want to go through that again..If you have any other ideas I would appreciated it..Thanks and have a great day!

  • [solved] stable network card name eth0 eth1

Hello, I'm new to Arch Linux. I have two Ethernet interface adapters, let's distinguish them by their MAC addresses MAC0 and MAC1. Relationship between MAC addresses and 'eth' unit numbers may change after reboot. Sometimes
    MAC0~eth0
    MAC1~eth1
    sometimes
    MAC0~eth1
    MAC1~eth0
When they swap, I should change 'rc.conf' settings (IP addresses and such) or keep rebooting until they swap back. I want to name devices in 'rc.conf' by their MAC addresses, is it possible?
Last edited by beroal (2009-06-14 01:47:57)

Had this issue recently. The best solution is to create a rule in udev which handles the naming task. See http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Udev. The general solution didn't solve my problem. The udev rule has been effective so far. I renamed to lan0 and lan1. If you do rename remember to change your configs that refer to the network cards.

  • Lasejet 1102w plus airprinter issues plus home networking config

I have printer HP Laserjet 1102w in my wireless network as follows:
192.168.1.1 ADSL Modem in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.2 TPLINK TL-WR941ND in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.3 TPLINK TL-WR1043ND (AS A REPEATER) in my office in another floor of my house. The printer is in my office.
The printer works just fine using my notebook. I can print everywhere.
But when trying to print from an Ipad or Iphone, I cannot print from my bedroom. No printer is shown in airprinter (ipad/iphone).
When both ipad or iphone gets repeater signal (far away from 192.168.1.2 TPLink Router) the printer shows in airprinter
So I cannot print from my bedroom when using ipad/iphone.
    What am I doing wrong?
I would like to print everywhere using my ipad/iphone. Is there any config to make in 192.168.1.2 router?
The printer has static IP 192.168.1.11
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This is because the printer and the iOS devices have to be on the same network, if one is on the primary and one is on the repeater it will likely not work. As I mentioned above that AirPrint often does not work on repeaters or on hotspots due to how they interact on the network.

  • Difficulty obtaining open DNS IP using any network config tool.

Hey everyone...  I've searched the thread archives and haven't found a solution to this yet...
I'm having a hard time connecting to any of my school networks. One is a guest network, one is a wpa2 encrypted network.

At a guess, I'd say the DHCP client sets you Default Route and DNS Servers in /etc/resolv.conf which you may not be doing when you change to static IP. It works it you boot with DHCP, then change to Static because the DHCP client has already set them, but if you boot directly to a Static IP address, they don't get set.
I figured something like this must be happening.  I.e.  DHCP server does more than bring up the interface with IP, broadcast IP and subnet mask.  I solved the problem by changing
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    to
    ROUTES=(gateway)

  • How do I solve a network error, code 60?

My ical on my imac desktop and I continue to receive a network error, code 60.  How do I solve this issue?

    1. Open iCal on your client computer > Preferences
    2. Go to the Accounts tab
    3. Go to Server Settings tab
    4. Make sure there is a port number entered. It should match the port number being used by the iCal server. Originally, this setting was on "Auto" and it worked fine. The "Auto" option no longer works. Also, be sure to check "Use SSL" if you are doing so. (In my setup, I have it on port 8443, with SSL on.)

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my wireless network connections, too. I did a fresh arch install with gnome3 some days ago to avoid any issues when upgrading, but i just can't access any wireless networks now. Everything else works like a charm, though. I followed the usual steps to set up my network/wifi with all the required modules and packages (broadcom-wl from the AUR, etc.) but it doesn't work like it did with gnome2 and xfce4.
My iwconfig/ifconfig output looks like dave1022's. Don't know if this is of any help...
The nm-applet in the gnome3 "panel" actually lists nearby wireless networks, but once I click on one of them, gnome asks me for authentification with my root password (user password does not work). I don't think it should be this way. If I enter my root password here, nothing happens whenever I click on the concerned network to connect to it. I deleted the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<SSID> file to reset the authentification process.
I tried to consult the gnome3 pages in the wiki, but couldn't find any valueable hints either...does anyone have any idea what I might have done wrong or forgotten?
It's exactly the same for me and it's driving me nuts. I'm using iwl3945
    [EDIT]
Well... actually installing the applet solved it for me. Is the applet actually needed for Gnome 3 or is a workaround?
