[SOLVED] Multiple versions of Wine / downgrade Wine

Hi All
I need to be able to run Wine 1.5 in order to use GoToMyPC which unfortunately doesn't work with Wine 1.7. I guess the ideal would be to have Wine 1.7 alongside 1.5 and be able to switch between them. I've had real difficulty in finding any information on how to do this and when I tried to compile Wine 1.5 I had errors which I couldn't resolve.
So, is it possible to downgrade Wine to 1.5? If so, is there any information around someone could point me to which explains how to do it? It is really annoying me that I have to connect to work via Windows just because of a Wine version! GoToMyPC always worked in Ubuntu for example until the recent "upgrade". I came back to Arch, hadn't realised how much I loved this distro' actually, only to find the same issue!
Any suggestions, help, pointers etc. are much appreciated.

RichAustin wrote:To be honest I don't really understand how the prefix is supposed to work. If I run the above command to set the prefix and then "wine --version" I still get wine 1.7. It seems most likely to me that I'm not using the prefix correctly to set the version of wine. The documentation on it is as clear as mud which doesn't really help.
That is because wine uses certain other variables to point to a specific wine version (binaries and libraries). I wrote a script a very long time ago to link binaries downloaded by PoL to /usr/bin/wine-_version_. Since then some things may have changed. To use a different wine version in a specific prefix you would need to set at least those variables:
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Windows7"
WINESERVER="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/bin/wineserver"
WINELOADER="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/bin/wine"
WINEDLLPATH="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/lib/wine"
This is done by PoL however, so there is no need to do it manually. Reread what other suggested. PoL is the simplest way for that.
Edit: Clarification.

  • I need help installing multiple versions of wine

    I've been looking at this guide and it's no help.
    I Compiled my version of wine by doing this:
    ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/bin/wine-1.1.25 && make depend && make
    and then a sudo make install
    But there's no executable binaries and here's my proof:

  • (solved) How can I get an older version of WINE?

    I switched from Ubuntu to Arch, and met a problem with WINE.
    I have a SIGMA DP1 camera and have to use SIGMA PHOTO PRO with WINE to process the RAW files.
    In Arch WINE doesn't work with the application. In Ubuntu there is no problem with it.
    wine SIGMA\ PhotoPro4.exe

    - You can try the version you use on Ubuntu http://arm.konnichi.com/search/
    - lcms is installed although I have no idea what it is.
    - I did, and this is where I got the error above

    EDIT: I browsed to /var/cache/pacman/pkg to see which wine version I could downgrade to, so I tried version 1.3.29 and now word works again. adding wine to ignorepkg now...

    Thanks for your reply! I don't think, I use dmix, the .asoundrc is some default one (might actually be a pretty old one since I tend to carry my /home partition over to new system installs). I tried to remove it with no luck. pulseaudio-alsa has been already installed with following /etc/asound.conf:
    # Use PulseAudio by default
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    hint {
    show on
    description "Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)"
    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    # vim:set ft=alsaconf:
    Since nothing changed after removing .asoundrc, maybe this asound.conf has been used all the time rather than the .asoundrc?
    Concerning the tsched=0 thing, the driver is snd_hda_intel (with snd_hda_codec_realtek), the card is an ALC887-VD. The Alsa page you mentioned states that indeed some cards with snd_intel_hda (seems to be the same as snd_hda_intel) driver have problems with timer-based scheduling, but doesn't specify which ones exactly.
    So now I'm following your last hint and building wine-multimedia. It had lib32-libcl as make dependency which made conflicts with lib32-catalyst-utils, so I now try building wine-multimedia with lib32-libcl removed from the makedepends list, let's see whether it builds, it takes a while.  Will report back as soon as I have any news.

  • Install.  SAP NW 7.01 ABAP Trial Version on Win 7.0 Professional 64 bit OS

    Dear Experts,
    I was trying to install SAP NetWeaver 7.01 ABAP Trial Version(SAP Management console -sapmmcX86u.msi from <extract_folder>\sapmmc) on Window 7.0 professional 64 bit machine,but getting the following error message.
    'This installation does not support 64 bit windows operating systems. Please use the corresponding 64 bit installation package.'
    Can you please share procedure how to install 7.01 ABAP Trial Version on Win 7 Prof.64 bit operating system.
    Regards,
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
    Hope you have managed to install the trial edition in win 7, However if not then you can use virtualization to solve your problem, you can download windows virtual PC which has a XP mode so this XP mode runs XP inside your Win7 OS (just like a application) and then you can install the trial edition inside virtual XP(never tried it myself though).
    Hope this helps.

  • [solved] For each new wine prefix / need to install mono?

    Hi!
    Haven't "worked" with wine for a while now and I don't remember getting prompted to download/install wine ("bla bla no mono detected... download / install / you should use your distributions package or something", guess winecfg is doing that) every time I create a new prefix.
    Has something changed here? Or did I change something (remove a package, compile wine the wrong way)? Or did I just forget about that dialogue?I think basic mono support just used to be there... just like it's with gecko, using an archlinux package or something... but I'm not sure. The only "mono-package" I have installed is: "mono 2.10.8-1"... so...  uhm...
    TL/DR: Why no mono automatically there / how fix it? I'm confused.
    Thanks!

    The newest version of wine adds automatic installation of mono. It's looking for an MSI
    http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.5.6
    There is a wine-mono package in the AUR as well that you can try.
    That though, explains everything, thanks!
    ( For some reason I thought wine was trying to use parts of my native mono and couldn't find it, somehow totally missed the "msi part" :3 )
    => solved
    edit: In case you have the MSI in place but it's still downloading mono every time: Check the md5sum. There seem to be different valid & working versions of the msi around (maybe for different languages?), but only one seems to be recognized by wine. That one seems to work for me at the moment: 972b4e96e677c2cf5065fbdd13183c66

  • Wrong version of Win 7 after system recovery.

    My Pavillion dv7 I purchased from Best Buy about 6 months ago hiccuped and died. I wasn't able to do a system recovery, but was able to do a system restore.  After figuring out that I needed to turn off the wi-fi, I have stumbled across another problem.  The activiation key on the sticker on the bottom of the computer will not activate Win 7.  The sticker says that it is for Win 7 Home Premium while Win 7 Home Basic is currently installed.  How can I unlock the correct version of Win 7 that was installed AND PAID for on this computer so it will function again.
    Thanks!!

    As for the restore disk, I didn't realize this computer came with any. I'll look again through my stuff to see if I have them. If I do, then just pop them in and let 'er rip? If no disks, then what?
    Do you still have the recovery partition?? You could mark the recovery partition (Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Disk Management) as active and reboot. It will (should) act like with the recovery disks in..
    If all fails, install an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium (borrow, download etc..) and use the product key from the bottom of the laptop...

  • [SOLVED] Setting up virtualbox & wine and on x86_64

    Hello again
    Ok so this should be my last annoying noob post, I have 64-bit Arch setup correctly with gnome and everything. However, I still have a few questions starting with how do I install virtualbox & wine on x86_64? I tried to install virtualbox with pacman -S virtualbox_bin 3.1.2-1 and that didn't work and I haven't even made an attempt with wine yet. Can I safely install a bin32 version of wine? - The wiki didn't make that very clear.
    Additionally, I have copied a lot of backup data to my home folder that belongs to the user 'root'. Is there a way that I can, via command line make everything in my home belong to my user?

    Both programs can be found in the AUR:

    You can install yaourt first and then use it to install other packages from AUR:

    ok thanks, I am just going to assume that its safe to install wine bin32. In the mean time, if I chown username my home folder will that change the ownership of every sub-directory/file?
    Edit: Found it, thanks anonymous_user.
    chown -hvR user /home/user

    1. You have placed problem in wrong forum, or use different Windows operating system
    2. Double check your resources, namely in Disk manager. What is free space on HDD?

  • I downloaded a trial version of WIN 2012 r2

    I downloaded a trial version of WIN 2012 r2 and placed my ISO on a DVD, What's the next step, I don't have a license.  The DVD won't boot so I can install it on a partition on my WIN 8.1 PC.

     I don't have a license.  The DVD won't boot
    You shouldn't need a license for evaluation. The burn may have went bad or the boot order in cmos setup may be wrong.

  • When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX

    When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads (i.e. ads for XBOX) on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX on an HP Pavillion dv7 laptop. Does NOT happen at all in MS IE 8, but occurs every time in FF 5.0.
    Also, Google 'translate this page' links do not work in FF 5.0, but works in MS IE 8. All I get in FF is a blank page, time after time.

    Hi,
    I am using a Nvidia 4200M adapter in my Laptop, Driver 266.96, Direct X 11
    In my desktop I am using an ATI XFX 6950, latest revision drivers (I am not at home right now so I cant get that info).
    The issue I did describe above, but it was a long explanation.
    In some flash games the game files load initially and get as far as the "click to start" button. Then the flash area usually goes either all white or all black (usually depending on the falsh game default background color) and then it stays that color. Cant see anything after hitting start (usually most games have an intro video or animation before the game starts, but I cant see any of it.
    For the very few games that do start, the flash game or application does not seem to work correctly in that when the rare game starts, it wont save any game files or save files to the pc and so if I exit the game (navigate away to another page or close browser) and then later come back, even though I click the option to save games (and ensure that the flash application slider shows it can save files and lots of space) it does not save and I have to start from the beginning all the time.
    More explanation I gave above.

  • What version of Win 7

    Just got my new iMac and since XP will not work what version of Win 7 should I use?

    Windows editions have a habit of being confusing.
    The Home flavors of Vista and 7 usually have the stuff most people want in Windows turned on by default--namely gaming stuff, family controls and media organization and sharing tools.  But they can't join a domain nor do they offer fine-grain control over user privileges.  These editions limit the Backup tools to local documents only, as opposed to a full system backup in other editions.  File encryption is turned off as well.
    Media Cebter and Parental Controls are permanently disabled in Pro, but you have full networking power and the ability to make complete backups.  Games are turned off by default, but can be loaded (unless you're running the 64-bit Intel 965 (X3100) display driver; under that condition, games crash frequently)

  • Devellopement version of wine is the default

    The version of wine in archlinux is 1.3.6 which is a development version (the stable version is 1.2). Usually archlinux package the last stable version of available software. Why is it not the case here. Note that in this particular case I might agree with the packager since by experience I would class all version of wine as unstable. But I would like to know...

    ChoK wrote:Also wine is not alone in this, currently nvidia in Arch is beta, and mplayer is svn.
    nvidia from extra is not beta. is the latest stable.  http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122606 right now a beta driver doesn't exist
    mplayer is a bit special. the developers suggests to use it straight from svn because the "released" versions are way to out of date

    To "Eliminate Multiple Versions of jEdit" there is the same advice provided in all these places:
    http://www.jedit.org/users-guide/cli-us … #id2496905
    http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:JEdit#Discussion
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=3
    which is to add -reuseview to the Java exec command.
    But when I do this on my /usr/bin/jedit then jEdit won't launch at all.
    Anybody know why?

    Answer is to remove jEdit 4.2 and switch to version 4.3preX of jEdit, available here: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19451
