[solved] openssl and gawk corrupted?

I've just done pacman -Syu and it is what I've get:

checking package integrity... archive openssl-0.9.8f-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz was corrupted (bad MD5 or SHA1 checksum)
archive gawk-3.1.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz was corrupted (bad MD5 or SHA1 checksum)
errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
Wtf? I don't want to ignore these packages because many other depends on them so my upgrade would by much less useful without them. Does anyone had similar problem? And if so: how was it solved?

I've cleared cache but result is the same. I'll try to download from other mirror tomorrow.

Ok, I've managed to solve my problem : ) It looks that the main reason was in openssl - when I upgrated it to the newest version(by doing what i found here) it all started to work just fine.

There's hardware and software.
Your drive could physically be in good condition but something has caused the file structure to be messed up (it just happens sometimes). The directory that keep track of files is corrupt. Disk Utility can help determine if that is the issue. In some cases it can repair the problem but it cannot do it to a drive that is being used to boot the system while you are doing that. You have to boot from another drive. Some things DU cannot repair and you need to try a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior.
A failing hard drive (one with mechanical issues) can be a cause of file structure issues but this is by no means always the case. Apart from looking at the SMART diagnosis feature of Disk Utility (and smart isn't totally reliable) there often isn't a way to tell if a drive is failing until it suddenly happens, which is why you need to maintain backups.
In your situation it does sound serious and not just minor directory corruption. You can try erasing (formatting) the drive, You may need to do this if it is really corrupt, in which case there could be underlying physical issues. I use old technology but if you have the patience you can try erasing the drive with the security option of writing zeros once (don't do more unless you are going on a 3 week vacation). This makes the drive not simply assume everything is okay by forcing it try every part of the drive by writing data. If something is gong wrong you may find it marks a lot of bad sectors, or flat out refuses to format. Then you know you need a new drive.

I mean, if I save a file called "crachá" I'm using an accent on "a" so it showed as "á" but if I do this Illustrator says the following error:
"The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different foulder"
and when I try to open it says:
"The file "Crachá.ai" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened."
So, my solution is to create a new file and call it "Cracha", without the accent. But it never happened before. How can I fix this legitimately?

As for the resolution problem: upsampling an image doesn't improve its quality, because there's simply not enough information there.
As for the warning you get: it's most likely caused by RGB color mode or by placed RGB content that interacts with other content in the file (e.g. because you applied transparency)

You need to understand what's happening on conversion of RGB to CMYK color space, which will happen when printing to offset presses. When you print on office printers, something else happens and all kinds of color may come out, because these machines sometimes do their own color correction and everything depends on how you set up the machine.
Provided you check the PDF in Acrobat: you need to set up color management there as well. This might lead to the differences (greenish) you're seeing.

Before sending files to a print service provider you need to get information on how they need the file. Most providers won't accept PDFs generated with "No color conversion". Or they won't guarantee for the output.
What you see on your monitor won't necessarily match the printed result unless your system is correctly calibrated and color management set up. And even then there might be differences.

Final Cut Crashed and then corrupted the file. So Final cut wouldn't open up. I tried reloading the backup, trashing the prefs file, systematically going through the 3 previous versions and opening them by themselves one by one to no avail.

Final cut now opens if launch older projects. But if I actually click on the project it crashes. Im not sure what you mean by events? I've moved them from the events folder.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Since your current editing workflow is based around Virtual Copies there are no actual files containing the edit data. Therefore, you'll need to use the 'Import from another catalog' option ( see File menu).

Question: By looking at the output, how can I say that RMAN did an Logical Check for the corruption? This output looks same as a simple backup without logical corruption check. Please advice how to check about this?

I think you won't see any summary on this, only when corruption is found.
There is also one related setting that can be incorporated here - see example:
Example 2-25 Specifying Corruption Tolerance for Datafile Backups
This example assumes a database that contains 5 datafiles. It uses the SET MAXCORRUPT command to indicate than no more than 1 corruption should be tolerated in each datafile. Because the CHECK LOGICAL option is specified on the BACKUP command, RMAN checks for both physical and logical corruption.

I'll have to get a better instructor on deleting the preferences since when I've doen it in the past nothing is there when I open LR the catalog is gone. I assumed that was what was supposed to happen so I start importing all over again. But that is a different issue...
The problem has been happening since at least the beta of 3 came out and I saw other posts back then saying they had similar issues but I assume it was a beta thing... But since the full version came out and through each incremental change I haven't seen an improvement. If anything it has gotten a little worse with time.
I have to try to be careful to not be in a hurry and start clicking around in the catalog as it seems fragile until it has cataloged all the photos in the library. When starting you will see the numbers populate the folders very slowly and I try not to click on a folder that hasn't had the number of photos pop up yet. Also draging the slider down to see more of the cataloge can have the same affect and crash the system.
I wish I had more to go on.. I believe it may be a resources issue but as I went from 3-4 Gig I thought it would get better. I don't have big programs running but did have outlook and word running in the background along with firefox and chrome.
And yes it only happens on this HP desktop (it's 2+ yrs old) and may be showing it's age a bit. My laptop which has less resources doesn't have the issue.. I have them sharing the catalog. (not at the same time) just when I'm working in other places in the house.

OpenSSL and Perl

I've been working on Xyne's feature requests for Pacgraph. He thought it would be cool if there were some way to quickly explore the dependencies of stuff and how packages fit together.
Here's an interesting relationship: OpenSSL and Perl. If you chase OpenSSL's deps all the way down to glibc, you'll find it needs 135Mb. The single biggest dep is Perl, at 38Mb. I would hope Perl is important to its function.
Searching the net found a Gentoo bug report about this. It was closed as CantFix because "the stupid build system uses perl". As a binary distro, it sounds like Perl should be a makedep. (Assuming the build system is unchanged. The bug report was from 5 years ago.)
Searching "pacman -Ql openssl" reveals exactly one Perl script: /etc/ssl/misc/CA.pl and it's associated manpage. Also present is a shell script (/etc/ssl/misc/CA.sh) which does the same thing (but does not have a manpage).
Is there any reason to have a Perl dependency for just this one duplicated script? Am I missing something? I know tweaks to OpenSSL should not be taken lightly, we would not want to end up like Debian.

Personally, I've never used it for creating certs. I've never seen it referenced in any SSL tutorial or guide. Beyond the man page, it is mentioned once on OpenSSL's site.

The dev's say the Perl script is only there for systems lacking Bash, mainly just Windows. Do we need this dependency just for Window's sake?

My iPod Classic syncs some music on and then corrupts and wipes... Help?

I decided to restore my iPod Classic 160GB because it was running a little slow.
I have since on numerous times over the past few weeks tried to restore all my music back onto the device but I've came up with the same problem everytime.
Everytime I sync it, it gets to around 10% of my music library onto it and then corrupts and wipes itself and demands a restore.
I've tried everything with the files. I have put them into sepreate smaller playlists, I've ticked and unticked them all and I've restored the library itself but not to any avail.
Can anyone help me?
