In my post I referred to the problem of digiKam v.1.1.0 not autorotating images correctly anymore when it's downloading and processing them from the camera, whereas v. 1.0.0 did so correctly (without to my knowledge having any Kipi plugins installed).  I.e. v.1.1.0 is configured to autorotate but it doesn't really do it; it doesn't rewrite the EXIF orientation tag.  It does display portrait images correctly in its own viewer (and so does Gwenview) but the other programs don't when they access these images in the album directory.  They show the wrong orientation but none of them, Gwenview included, has any problem in allowing me to manually rotate the image to the correct orientation that can then be passed on e.g. to Thunderbird.
Of course, I could process all the images taken in portrait orientation manually, e.g. in GIMP, but why do so when digiKam 1.0.0 and earlier used to do it automatically.  Besides, the image rotation in digiKam is supposed to be lossless which may not be true if I use other programs.
Again, a short summary: portrait image from camera downloaded with digiKam -> displayed correctly in digiKam (and Gwenview) but not really rotated according to EXIM tags -> can be rotated further (another 90 deg) and saved in digiKam or Gwenview and can then be displayed correctly in GIMP, Firefox and Thunderbird but would not be correctly displayed anymore in digiKam and Gwenview.
I haven't figured out how to rotate images in Gwenview from the CLI, hence can't produce any error messages.

  • JTree � doesn�t show text in combination with icon correctly.

    I am trying to display in each node different (custom) icon (or none � according to the info read from file) + text. The icons are of different sizes (no t greater than 16 x 16 pixels). In each node from left first the icon is displayed than the text. My problem is that in some nodes not the whole text is drawn, only three dots indicate that there should be some more text. I suppose that the 'paint � or �getTreeCellRendererComponent � method does not add the icon�s width to the total node width represented by Jlabel. Maybe calling method �nodeChanged� could solve the problem, but I cannot call it from �getTreeCellRendererComponent � as it creates endless recurrency. Here is the code for the changed method:

    The problem about calling nodechanged() in the getTreeCellRendererComponent() is that if U call from within that method U get indirect recursion - it seems that calling nodechanged() fires an event that calls getTreeCellRendererComponent() and so on.. Because I tried that and the whole application seized to respond for a while and the threw some exception - i do not remember which one - but the list of problems was too long - as by endless recursion stopped just by the Virtual machine (stack overflow or smth. like that). And I do not know from where should I call that method nodechanged(), as getTreeCellRendererComponent() is called within swing somewhere.
    Could someone help me?

  • Western digital hard drive doesn't show up anymore

    I bought a Macbook Pro a few months ago and I've been using my Western Digital external USB hard drive with up until now with no problems. Then today for some reason, I turn my computer on and the drive doesn't show up anymore. It doesn't show up in disk utility either. I've rebooted a few times but no luck. I inserted a flash drive and it mounts ok so it's not the USB port. I even switched usb cables just in case the cable was bad. Any suggestions?

    Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Mac.
    Is the ext HD a powered drive (needs AC power to run) or portable? (smaller, doesn't need to be plugged in to AC)
    If its AC powered, check that all the usual lights are lit up on it (flashing activity light, power light etc), if not, then you would need to contact WD.
    You can also try resetting the SMC & PRAM, as I have seen this cause a HD to not mount before.

    i got a backup for the files but even if they are on the mmc, when camera is connected fcpx doesn't see them. if i try to import a new shoot it works!!

    Thx a lot Salty. As you suggest I found other staff on support pages. I deleted AVCHD structure and kept only .mts... Now what I need to do is to convert those files with handbrake or similar tool in .mp4 or .mov to make them digest to FCPX.

  • [SOLVED] Thunar doesn't show external volumes anymore

    Thunar used to show external devices (USB sticks, iPod, ...) in the left panel (when displaying shortcuts instead of tree). For some reason I can't figure, it doesn't do it anymore.
    All I have in the left panel is the standard "home, Desktop, filesystem" and the static links to the different folders I placed there.
    I tried to uninstall completely thunar and remove the configuration files, then re-install it, but it changed nothing.
    Desktop : openbox.
    Running daemons (I'm not sure if all of theme are relevant) : dbus, hal, fam.

    Well given that we don't know what version of OS X you're on, what version of Safari you're using and it's the iPhoto forum and not the Safari one, the best I can suggest is that you try repair permissions with Disk Utility

  • Music app doesn't show audiobooks anymore

    I used to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and other recordings on my iPhone, but starting yesterday, the categories in the Music app changed so that I can't access these files anymore.
    I tried to open them with other apps (Podcasts, Audible) and it didn't work either.
    (to be clear: I can listen to audobooks from Audible in the Audible app; I can also listen to podcasts that I subscribed to in the Podcasts app; but if I download single episodes of podcasts straight from the websites or have other audio files that I declare as audiobooks in iTunes on my Mac and that show up there under audiobooks, there are the ones that don't show up anymore -- though when I connect my phone to the Mac and check from there it shows that the files are on the phone (though they are inaccessible via Spotlight too)).
    Here a screen of what my Music app looks like now, the category "Audiobooks" just disappeared:

    I have a 32 GB 4S and the alphate is visible on, Artist, Songs, Albums, Composers and Genres, not visible on compilations and playlists.
    Sounds like you might need to take it to apple since you alreade did a restore. 
    I would hate to suggest this, but you might need to restore as new and see what happens before you restore from a backup.

    You may want to try resetting and, if necessary, restoring your iPhone.

    If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), try resetting
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds.

    Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
    If there is no image on the screen, press the Home button to attempt to wake the device.
    If the screen displays a red battery icon, let the device to continue to charge until it turns on.
    If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes
    Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.

    If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode.

  • Import dialog doesn't show files anymore (not even the ones on the hard drive)

    I shoot pictures with a D70 (canon) and i imported them always with no problems. After a update or installation of a external program the import dialog does not show any pictures anymore. It's a black screen. The files can be read from the filebrowser and are regular cr2 files (raw files). What can I do? There are 149 files on the card and non are shown, see below

  • GDM doesn't show up anymore after installing catalyst, Xorg works fine

    Hi,
    I just installed catalyst-hook from Vi0L0 and my situation is this: when I boot my computer the output on the tty1 gets stucked after the checking the filesystem with systemd-fsck and nothing appears after that, no blinking cursor, no prompt that asks me for a login, no nothing, nothing progress in both textual and graphic modes ; however, if I switch to the 2nd terminal with ALT + F2 I can login and start Xorg via the usual
    startx
    and apparently no session is ever being initiated before that so whatever is happening on tty1 must prevent xorg from even starting a new session.
    What I tried
    The main problem is that I have absolutely no idea what this is about, It could be anything ranging from modprobe to gdm, but since I have an audio card that only works properly when the appropriate configuration in
    /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    gets loaded and I can even start a desktop session, I'm assuming that the core stuff on my system ( kernel modules and Xorg ) is working properly .

    I can't get to the GDM login anymore after installing catalyst-hook, I can use the fglrx without any major issue, I can start a desktop session with startx from tty2 and tty1 gets stuck before anything "graphical" can actually appear on the screen and probably non even Xorg gets any chance of running on tty1 .
    What kind of problem is this ?

    I have my old conky config with net speed indication which worked in past but stopped working this installation. My user is in “network” group and I have

    in my ~/.conkyrc file. It used to show speed in KB/s but now just zeros, all the time. What would be the reason for this malfunction?

  • [SOLVED] akregator doesn't show images in the preview pane

    I have three different PCs with Arch and kdemod-legacy (that is, kde 3.5.9) and on all of them I use akregator (a RSS/Atom feed reader).
    One of the feed I subscribed is from an image board: when new images are uploaded to the site, I'm notified and clicking on the link in the articles section of akregator I can see in the lower pane a thumbnail of the image.
    However this doesn't happen on my third pc: I *suppose* the installed applications and libraries are the same between all the machines, and the akregator options seems to be same as well.
    Does anybody have an idea about this?

    That's right - I don't use that option because it's usually unnecessary: the overview usually does show a thumbnail of the image, and I can avoid loading the entire page.
    Anyway, I noticed that switching from RSS to Atom (for the same feed, I mean) solves the issue - so maybe it was related to the type of feed used.

  • The "Podcasts" menu doesn't show up anymore

    My ipod no longer shows "podcasts" as a menu option anymore.  The podcasts themselves still synch with no trouble, and I can find them by using the "search" function, but I'd much rather peruse the podcasts via the menu.  Any thoughts on how I might make the option accessible again?  Not sure how I removed it in the first place.

  • The main window doesn't show up anymore when I launch iPhoto.

    The problem occurs on an iMac / Mavericks 10.9 / iPhoto 9.5. In the last days, iPhoto used to crash several times, and now the main window doesn't open when I lauch the app. Fortunately, if I want to access from the menu another Library, it works, So that I can repeat the procedure and access, by doing so, the default Library that doesn't open. There must be a corrupted file somewhere, I presume. But now, what to do? With Time Machine I could get iPhoto from a time it worked well. But this didn't change anything. Thanks for an advice to solve this annoying problem.

    Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
    (On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
    (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
    For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
