[SOLVED]tint2-svn out-of-date

Not compiling and build is flagged as out-of-date. No contact info of the maintainer. What to do now?

It builds fine without all those patches.  Having static patches to VCS code is a bad idea from the outset.

  • [solved] Pepper flash out of date?

    Just reinstalled the system (64bit), downloaded the latest chrome and extracted pepper flash to chromium. It always worked flawlessly but this time it's saying that the plugin is outdated and can't be used. This is just an annoyance since we can set whatever version we want in /etc/chromium/default but I was just wondering why it is happening and if others have experienced such behavior.

    I've done exactly what the AUR package does, but manually.
    - download latest 64bit chrome from google website
    - extract pepper flash
    - copy files to proper directory
    - modify /etc/chromium/default
    in fact AUR package gives me the same out of date error
    Edit: my workaround is to add some units to the --ppapi-flash-version paramenter in the /etc/chromium/default

  • [SOLVED] Adopting an out-of-date package

    Two questions:
    1) It's been a year since any updates were done on the package I needed to install today, and I mistakenly assumed that because it had been flagged out-of-date I'd be able to adopt it after I cleaned things up and rebuilt it.  I just sent the current owner a message asking him to disown the package so I could adopt it, but I was curious what the SOP for taking over out-of-date packages that haven't been disowned (they might not respond, and it'd be relevant to know what further steps I need to take regardless).
    2) I remember reading somewhere that it took 10 or 20 votes to get a package from the AUR to community, but the package I was working with had well over that.  What exactly is the current procedure that allows a package to graduate from the AUR to community?
    Cheers,
    ~Vry

    That's what I thought :-) I too wanted to ask you which package exactly you had in mind, but as the rules apply to all of them, I think it's not strictly necessary.
    Talking about some loosely-defined hypothetical situation makes me uneasy because there may be some gotchas or special cases involved, so it's best to be as specific as possible (but you probably know that).

  • [SOLVED] package versions out of date, and a wireless question

    Hey guys,
    I'm completely new to arch, have used ubuntu and fedora for a few years so im familiar with a lot of linux concepts (although im far from being a guru), and I decided to switch to arch because of the messes that are unity and gnome 3 respectively (imho, of course), and because I've always wanted to learn more about how my OS works. I did my first arch install today, got gnome 2 working and almost everything works great.
    I just have 2 problems as of right now, and after being unable to find an answer in the wiki or online i decided to try the forums.
    My first problem is that the versions for packages seem to be all wrong when i search or install them through pacman. For example, running pacman -S firefox installed firefox 3.6, but according to the online package list ( http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/firefox/ ), firefox 5 is the latest version in the repos... I've run pacman -Syu and pacman -Syy, but pacman says there are no updates available... so yea, i have no idea whats up with that, im a bit too used to apt i guess
    my second problem is trying to get wireless internet working... ive got a broadcom BCM4318 chip, and i installed the b43 drivers from the AUR (which was a hassle in and of itself, because the package required b43-fwcutter>=0.14, and pacman assured me that 0.13 was the newest version... so you can see how my problems are intertwined to an extent). I also installed network-manager-applet, but that doesnt show up in the gnome notification area, so I'm at a loss as to how to check if i can connect to wireless networks (all the options in the gnome "network settings" program are greyed out....).
    So that's where I'm stuck currently, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it
    Thanks in advance

    oh wow... i had just left pacman using a mirror from a college near where i live, after using the mirrorlist generator and running pacman -Syyu, seems pacman wants to dl another 500 megs and run some updates glad that seems to be working, and hopefully that will lead to something with my wireless working
    thanks for the response!

Is anyone else experiencing this with tint2-svn? Should I try reverting packages or will that make things even messier in the long run?

    jasonwryan wrote:Yes, slight code changes have broken the patches. You could hand patch the clock files and remove those patches from the PKGBUILD (or wait until the maintainer updates the package).
    Hi, thanks for this answer. tint2-svn seems to be hopelessly broken. I had to even fix the version I had installed (back in February), but the latest one seems to be an absolute trainwreck. I tried the tips from the comments:
    I `m successfully compile after next changes:
    - patch launcher_apps_dir-v2.patch needs to be modified, source code in svn has been chaged in util/common.c, changes to patch on http://pastebin.com/avmcFs8s
    - patch tint2-systray.patch need to be removed, because source code in file systray/systraybar.c already have patch changes
    This one led to:
    ==> Starting build()...
    patching file src/clock/clock.c
    Hunk #2 succeeded at 111 (offset 11 lines).
    patching file src/clock/clock.c
    Hunk #1 succeeded at 41 (offset 2 lines).

    Hunk #4 succeeded at 286 (offset 31 lines).
    2 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file src/clock/clock.c.rej
    patching file src/clock/clock.h
    patching file src/config.c
    Hunk #1 succeeded at 435 (offset 39 lines).
    ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
    Aborting...
    I wouldn't know how to manually fix it and there wasn't a solution in the comments. Also tried building the git version with this pkgbuild: http://sprunge.us/VaeE?sh still got this error:  No CMAKE_C_COMPILER could be found. I also googled and found out some users have reported the svn version works without patches, that didn't work for me when I tried it. It looks like I've hit a dead end. I'm using tint2 for now, but it sadly doesn't have the feature to move tray and clock to bottom when using it as a sidebar. Also it has the same transparency issues in the tray. I might be forced to start looking for a new panel

  • [SOLVED] open-vm-tools-modules out of date

    open-vm-tools-modules has been flagged out-of-date today because it requires < 3.3 kernel.
    This is stopping me from updating to 3.3-ARCH.
    Can anyone advise what it would take to update this? If it's complicated, how long would it normally be before it is updated by the maintainer?
    Thanks in advance.

    The NEWS file in ~/abs/open-vm-tools-modules/.../src/ said
    Targets (1): open-vm-tools-modules-2012.03.13-1
    open-vm-tools 2012.03.13 changes:
            * Updates for newer Linux kernel releases (3.3).
    so I thought it was worth risking removing the requires <3.3 from PKGBUILD, like so (I didn't mean to comment the second "depends=" line):
    package() {
    _kernver=`pacman -Q linux | cut -d . -f 2 | cut -f 1 -d -`
    # depends=("linux>=3.${_kernver}" "linux<3.`expr ${_kernver} + 1`")
    # depends=("linux>=3.${_kernver}")
    KERNEL_VERSION=`cat /lib/modules/extramodules-3.${_kernver}-ARCH/version`
    msg "Kernel = $KERNEL_VERSION"
    Seems to be working, so marking SOLVED.

    WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of date.   how can i solve this problem/

    The Flash update alerts are fake, and are intended to mislead you into installing malware and/or to steal your identity. They're the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to well-known websites such as Google and YouTube are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker.
    The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert a paper clip and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
    Then go through the initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
    1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option.
    2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits.Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed.
    3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set another strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
    During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.

    I will update the Wiki-Entry now.

    Recently a package that I use a lot had a new stable release (Octave, just released 3.2.4) so I flagged 3.2.3-3 as out of date. It never got updated. This morning I checked back and it's not flagged as out of date anymore.

  • [Solved] Out-Of-Date Packages In Official Repos

    Hello all,
    Not really a question, but a general inquiry regarding the whole out-of-date process.
    Suppose I encounter an out-of-date package, which is already marked as such, and has been for quite some time (can't really put a number on it), with nothing going on on testing.
    In addition, the package maintainer is around, as can be deduced from the fact that other packages he is maintaining has been updated recently.
    Is there anything more that can be done to check the "status" of such out-of-date package?
    As an example (really, just an example), the qemu package has been marked out-of-date for about 2 weeks, while other packages maintained by the same maintainer have been updated in the last week or so.
    Thanks, Adam.

    First of all, it was obviously not a complaint, just an honest question.
    Anyway, I got what I need, thank you both.

    It appears that the JES installer was not correctly putting the password for the existing admin server in one of the config files -- it was, instead dropping "admin" in (which isn't correct).
    Grabbing the silent install file, fixing it, then calling the adminserver setup program manually seemed to fix it.

  • Firefox 34.05 says plugin is out-of-date, insecure, and thus disabled. But...my version is higher than the blocked version

    Upon updating to Firefox 34.05, I've been faced with the fact that this version of Firefox (erroneously) thinks some of my plugins are out of date, and has disabled them, for my safety.
    For instance, it tells me that "Adobe Acrobat Reader is known to be vulnerable and must be updated". Upon clicking the link to update it, it informs me that "Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower has been blocked for your protection.". Okay, cool right? An update should solve that.
    Problem is, I don't *have* a version of AR that is 9.5.1 or lower. My version is, according to Firefox itself, version 10.1.4.38. So why is it blocked? Updating the version, as advised in other threads on similar issues, does not seem to work. In fact, the Mozilla plugincheck tells me that my version is up-to-date and is fine.
    It is very inconvenient to have to open an entirely different browser, like Opera, just to do certain things that I could previously do with Firefox.
    I'd also like to voice my overall disapproval on the way many features of Firefox (enabling disabling Javascript, images, certain stylistic features, the add-on bar) have been done away with and users are being told "you can install an add-on to add that functionality back on". It has always been my understanding that the less add-ons installed the better, given that they are apparently the number one problem when it comes to Firefox having issues. Having to disable 5 new add-ons anytime I want to troubleshoot a problem is not convenient, and makes locating the source of various problems more difficult.
    I have no idea why Mozilla is so committed to making changes that users hate, and act as if having third-party add-ons to restore functionality is any kind of solution.

    ''James [[#answer-672408|said]]''
    <blockquote>
    Firefox 34.0.5 is not doing the blocking as it is due to the blocklist. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/
    Adobe Reader '''10.0 to 10.1.5.*''' has been blocked for your protection.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p158 (Blocked on October 5, 2012)
    You were looking at another blocklist page which was https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p156 posted on same day.
    The https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ is not always accurate or reliable (needs to be manually updated) as Adobe has not been keeping the Adobe products versions to check for updated on that page as the recent Flash updates on December 9 has shown.
    It is however accurate when it says versions in Plugins panel of Addons Manager is outdated.
    There is Adobe Reader 11.0.10 though it seems like Adobe still provides 10.1.4 at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ yet newer versions are at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows
    </blockquote>
    James, why does the Firefox addon page link to the 9.5 "blocked for your protection" page instead of the 10.5 blocked page? Is that a mistake/failure to update on Adobe's part? That seems like something that should be controlled on the Mozilla side, since it has the 10.5 blocked page in existence as well. Should someone be notified that it's giving the wrong page to people?
    The adobe update you linked to made it stop saying it's out of date, but what about the Java Development Toolkit? (As pictured in attached image #3). How should I go about getting that up to date?

    It shows grey windows with no flash content. And when I hit the button "Run this time", it starts playing the flash content. But it is an annoyance when I have to hit this button on every new window.
