[SOLVED] [WOL] Arch changes "wol g" setting to "wol d" on boot

I'm trying to get Wake-On-LAN working on my Arch Linux server. The network card uses the 8139too module. I've added a line to modprobe.conf to accomplish this:
install 8139too /sbin/modprobe -i 8139too; ethtool -s eth0 wol g
This line is correct, because if I reload the module (modprobe -r and modprobe again), ethtool reports "Wake-on: g" (and I can wake up the computer when I shut it down).
But when I reboot, the wrong wol option is set as you can see below:
[root@hb-server ssl]# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: MII
PHYAD: 32
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x00000007 (7)
Link detected: yes
So is there something in the Arch boot process that changes this wol option? I really need to get this fixed as I'm going to be needing WOL very badly soon

That worked like a charm, thanks a lot! I have one more question though. It works just fine from a local computer, using this:
wol -i 192.168.1.255 $HWADDRESS
But I want to do this via the internet as well. I have a dynamic dns account that works great, and I can forward SSH for example with no problems using my Linksys WRT54GL router (DD-WRT firmware). So I have set up a port forward for port 40000 to the IP 192.168.1.255, but it seems like my router isn't broadcasting the packet correctly...
This is the command i use:
wol -i $DYNDNSNAME $HWADDRESS
But the computer won't wake up this way...

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

To change the iCloud account on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone.  When you delete the account you will be given the option to either keep or delete the iCloud data from your phone.  This also, only deletes the account and the iCloud data from your phone, not from iCloud.  Your husband's phone won't be effected by this.  Then, to create a separate account, sign back in with a different Apple ID (you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes).
If you have any photo stream photos that you want to keep on the phone, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account.
If you're sharing the same ID for iMessage and FaceTime you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  To prevent this, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your new iCloud ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

If the song is indicating a "Kind" of "Protected AAC," that is not a setting.  It is an indication that the file contains Digital Rights Management (DRM).  DRM cannot be removed through normal conversion processes.

  • Changing database character set from US7ASCII to AL32UTF8

Our database is running on Oracle database 10.1.0.4.0 (AIX) The following are its parameters:
    SQL> select value from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
    VALUE
    US7ASCII
We would like to change the database character set to AL32UTF8. After following Metalink notes: 260192.1 (which helped us resolve "Lossy" and "Truncated" data, the final output of the CSSCAN utility is:
    [Scan Summary]
All character type data in the data dictionary are convertible to the new character set
All character type application data are convertible to the new character set
    [Data Dictionary Conversion Summary]
The data dictionary can be safely migrated using the CSALTER script
We have no (0) Truncation and Lossy entries on the .txt file. We only have Changeless and Convertible. Now accdg to the documentation, we can do a FULL EXP and FULL IMP. But it did not detail how to do the conversion on the same database. The discussion on the document tells how to do it from one database to another database. But how about on the same database?
We cannot use CSALTER as stated on the document.
    (Step 6
    Step 12
12.c) When using Csalter/Alter database to go to AL32UTF8 and there was NO "Truncation" data, only "Convertible" and "Changeless" in the csscan done in point 4:)
After performing a FULL export of the database, how can we change its character set? What do we need to do the the existing database to change its character set to AL32UTF8 before we import back our dump file into the same database?
    Please help.

There you are! Thanks! Seems like I am right in my understanding about the Oracle Official Documentation. Thanks!
    Hmmmmm...when you say:
*"you can do selective export of only convertible tables, truncate the tables, use CSALTER, and re-import."*
    This means that:
    1. After running csscan on database PROD, i will take note of the convertible tables in the .txt output file.
    2. Perform selective EXPORT on PROD (EXP the convertible tables)
    3. Truncate the convertible tables on PROD database
    4. Use CSALTER on PROD database
    5. Re-import the tables into PROD database
    6. Housekeeping.
Will you tell me if these steps are the correct one? Based on our scenario: This is what i have understood referring to the Official Doc.
    Am i correct?
I really appreciate your help Sergiusz.

Are you experiencing problems with a slow connection in Firefox?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
Another possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

I'm sure this is a very basic question but I just can't seem to find anywhere to change the language setting. If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content? I want to buy an album that I cannot get hold of in Korea, but it is available in the US iTunes store. However since most of my apps are downloaded from the Korean store I'll need to switch back in order to update them. Does anyone know if there are any issues in doing this. I'd rather find out before I spend money, change my store setting back to Korea, and then get told I can't listen to the music because I bought it from the US store and my iTunes is set to the Korean store.
    Cheers.

You canot easily change your country settings.  The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.

Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

  • How do I change the default setting on  the 'view scale'?

I'll try submitting this a second time - it didn't seem to go through the first time.
I have an iMac G5 (OSX 10.4.4.), my first encounter with Apple. I find that the default size that text displays on screen in the wordprocessing application is too small for my eyes (I ain't as young as I used to be ...). The text always displays in what seems to be about font 8 or 10, no matter what size I set the document font (it will print in the size I set, but not display in it).
I have discovered that I can change the display size by using the 'view scale' tab in the lower left corner of the window. Size 140 suits me just fine. Problem is that I have to change the view scale each time I open a new document.
Can anyone tell me how to change the default setting on 'view scale' ?
