[SOLVED] Xfce4 notification area & gnome icons

I have in notification area loaded gnome icons for sound and bluetooth and it's look like that:
http://tinypic.com/r/2nvwab4/6
I tried change the icon style in gnome-tweak-tool reload X several times but I'm still seeing ugly black icons and I have no idea how to fix it.
Have any of you same problem? Or even better solution for it?

When I switched from gnome to xfce, I replaced the sound menu with volumeicon and pavucontrol. As for bluetooth, I use bluemon now.

  • [SOLVED] IceWM: "notification area" / taskbar / system tray

    Hello!
I've recently moved from Gnome to IceWM. It all works nicely but there's a problem. In Gnome (and KDE and fluxbox and pypanel and ...) there was a "notification area" / taskbar / system tray where you could see "minimized to tray" programs, such as: Wicd, Deluge, Transmission, Emesene, etc... But in IceWM that doesn't exist. Well this is a pain in the *ss. I mean, I open deluge, minimize it and now I can't open its main window again.
Can some IceWM user help me?
    Thanks, acmps

It should be all there in a default IceWM setup, esp. does IceWM hava a built-in system tray.
Mostly it depends on how you start IceWM. You need to execute icewm-session in your ~/.xinitrc, as e.g.
    exec icewm-session
Or if you want to start IceWM manually, use
    xinit /usr/bin/icewm-session
There should be a ~/.icewm folder. If not, create one and copy /usr/share/icewm/{keys,menu,preferences,toolbar,winoptions} there. These are well commented setup files which you can change to your needs with any text editor.
Thanks! I was used to start IceWM with "exec icewm" in xinitrc, but it seems like it's icewm-session. About the .icewm folder, I already have it. I'm going to try and start IceWM with icewm-session right away.
EDIT: It seems like I don't need to start icewm-session to get the tray, just icewm and icewmtray. Thanks!

Now my icons in GDM and GNOME are missing. The icons in the top panel are not monochrome anymore and the Shell Overview and Web are missing all their icons. Plus they are crashing repeadedly.
Is it possible that this has something to do with the old kernel? Or is this another problem? What does the line

Icu was upgraded from 0.50 to 0.51.1 , you probably have packages (could be from AUR) that are build against the old icu version and need to be rebuild.

  • HOW TO ADD SNABASE TO SHOW NOTIFICATION AREA ICONS

    HELLO
I HAVE a CLIENT COMPUTER WINDOWS 7 with his 2010
I SET UP THE SNABASE SETTING
    THE SERVICES IS RUNNING
BUT IN THE OLD VERSION I SEE THE ICON OF SNABASE IN THE TRAY NEAR THE CLOCK
now IN WINDOWS 7 I DO NOT SEE THE ICON IN THE notification area

The icon only shows up in the notification tray when SnaBase is configured to run as an application. The default setting for a HIS client is for SnaBase to run as a Windows service. If you go back to the HIS Configuration Tool and change SnaBase to run as
an application, you will get the icon. Once you are in the Configuration Tool, go to common settings and then click the Advanced button. In the Advanced settings, you see the option to run as an application.
    Thanks...

  • [solved] Amarok 2.3.1 - missing notification area icon

    Using Gnome 2.30.0, KDE 4.4.3
For the latest amarok-git (2.3.1-git) and now the official community package (2.3.1) in the panel notification area the amarok tray icon displays as a page with a blue question mark on it, instead of the proper round 'wolf' icon.
I would think this may be the fault of Gnome, except the icon is restored when reverting back to amarok 2.3.0. The icon properly displays when using running a KDE session.
    Reproducible: Always
    Steps to Reproduce:
Install amarok 2.3.1 under Arch, and open amarok under Gnome desktop environment. Notification area icon displays incorrectly as above.
Thoughts?? Anyone else affected by this??

  • Gnome Fallback-Huge spacing between notification area icons

So, just went in the fallback mode in Gnome, I really like it, but there's way too much space between the icons in the notification area.
I have managed to make them a bit smaller ( http://askubuntu.com/questions/69576/ho … ssic-panel ), but I'd like to fix the spacing too.
This is how they look on my PC: http://i.imgur.com/lVldy.png
The space is not even equally distributed.
    I could use some help.
    Thanks.

I'd like to use Gnome in FallBack mode, but because of this, I can't, it's annoying.

  • Gnome Shell notification area icon problem

    Hello everybody,
I am using Arch Linux with gnome-shell. I've installed different themes and everything went fine. However, one day
my notification area for Empathy and Skype had exactly the same icons as Dropbox. You can see it in the attached image.
Is there any way to sort this problem out?
    Thank you

you would have to wonder how this could be a driver issue.... Incredibly it is... affecting only  x86_64 bits on newer nvidia drivers.
Had to post this as I had the problem and my first search got this thread. First answer wasnt useful appart from telling you to search more (ironic when u get there from a search engine ) so I'll make the job easier in case more people stumble upon this thread.
As of now there isnt no known fix. wait for new nvidia driver... switch to nouveau are basically the 2 options

  • Gnome notification area (Solved)

So i've been browsing the ubuntuforums since lucid was released and noticed that they all have nice looking icons in the notification area. They're unified icons, which i can't seem to get in gnome in arch.
Here's a screenshot to show what i'm talking about:
    http://i.imgur.com/9WG48.jpg
It doesn't seem to be just the lucid icon theme which achieves this, as that screenshot is using elementary icons. I've searched the AUR and can't find any modded notification area...
Anybody got an idea how Arch can have this look?
BTW i'm not talking about the OSD, i already have that..

Don't know which package holds the elemntary icons in ubuntu, artwork/gnome or something? you should be able to extract them from there

  • [SOLVED] Xfce4 panel, no notification area

I've just installed Fluxbox onto my Arch install and I desired a proper panel, because of the relatively few dependencies and lack of messing around I chose the xfce4-panel. However I can't seem to have a systray/notification area. If I attempt to add one to the panel I get the error
"There is already a notification area running on this screen."
    Which there isn't, not to my knowledge anyway. After that box closes I get the message;
    "Could not open "systray" module"
I've been looking around for a while to see if I can install said module, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

  • A weird looking icon in notification area.

    Hello friends,
I own a Blackberry 9300 and recently I have had this weird looking icon in my notification area. It looks like some sort of sundial (the clock replacement we used when we did not have clocks) with a red star and 1 written before it. Tried every app, message, etc. etc. but to no avail.
I would upload the picture (I have munched the screen using an app), were it not for my knowledge of how to upload pictures on forums.
If anyone has the slighest idea on this, please help!

  • Notification area icons appearing as windows

I'm having a problem where my gnome notification area icons appear as (small) windows instead of as icons in the notification area in the panel. I've tried moving the notification area, and removing and readding it, but nothing seems to work. Anyone know how to fix this?
Screenshot of problem (the notification area is there to the right of System):

No I definitely haven't added any panels. This didn't work with a completely default gnome install, and the only panel thing I changed was moving the notification area towards the system menu to see if it made a difference (which it didn't).

Suddenly, out of nowhere, the Nvidia notification are icon keeps appearing and I cannot get rid of it permanently for love nor money!
If I deselect it by unticking the option in both the notification area icon and in the main Nvidia control panel... it just pops again when I close my laptop and reopen it.
Driving me crazy... anyone got any ideas?

  • ? Best way to remove the notification area "Safely Remove" icon?

I have a new T500 running Vista64.  I've been able to customize it mostly to my liking.  But I still have a notification area icon called "Safely Remove Hardware."  When I click on it a window pops up allowing me to "safely remove" the Ma*shi*ta DVD drive.  I will never remove this hardware.
There are pretty clear methods that disable this icon and seemingly work perfectly for nVidia installations of serial ATA drives, but this T500/Vista64 setup doesn't have those drivers or the registry key that is modified.  I am aware that I can customize the notification area to "hide inactive icons" (via Taskbar properties) but there is only this one icon and it does not serve a purpose.  I am certain that there is a benign way to remove the icon that does not involve other software (like RemoveSRHI) and only removes the icon as it pertains to the "removable" Ma*shi*ta DVD drive.  Any temporary hardware, like a flash drive, that needs this will still display the icon.  The nVidia setups simply add a registry fix to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvata by adding a DWord "DisableRemovable." I've read from quite a few successful users of this registry fix and there doesn't seem to be a downside.
Does someone that knows a lot more about these drivers know if the DisableRemovable DWord can be added to a different key that's in my setup so the icon isn't displayed?  I'm guessing there are thousands of T500 users that would thank you!    Many Thanks,  Ben

I remember having this happen on my Toshiba, and since I never safely removed anything, I hid it.
Since you're still wanting to use it to remove USB drives, etc. I found a dandy program, it allows you to hide devices you don't want to stop. I've never used it, but the domain said it all for me: http://www.safelyremove.com/
Hope it works for you, it did for someone else in a forum I visted via some Googling.

  • Premier Elements 11 icons near the notification area.

Premier Elements 11 puts red icons on the taskbar near the notification area. What are these and why are they not removed when the application is closed? The only way they "go away" is to restart the computer.

I wish that I could offer some help, but have not observed any icons being added. It might be something that I felt was common behavior, and did not pay close attention to it/them, or maybe something that I have just never seen.
Perhaps others will recognize those icons, from the description, and be of more help.
    One question:
They apparently relate to something that was in my project; an adjustment to a video clip perhaps. If I right click on one of the icons a menu pops up.
When you clicked on those icons, and got a pop-up menu, what did that menu contain? That might be helpful in others recognizing what the icons relate to.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Does Verizon have an e-mail notification alert icon to go in the notification area of the taskbar?

I'd like to be notified when I receive e-mail in my Verizon "In Box" . Does Verizon have such a notification? I'm referring to an icon in the notification area of the taskbar that says "You have mail" or something to that effect.

There would need to be a program installed on your computer. Verizon does not have such a program. Popular email clients are Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc.
