Some Mailbox Moves Keep Failing

Trying to perform mailbox moves from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 environment. Both are up to the latest CU and Service Pack. Most moves finish successfully. I have a couple so far that transfer data for some time then fail with the following error.
Error: MapiExceptionTooBig: IExchangeFastTransferEx.SetPerUser failed
I have attempted the moves a couple times, even adding the AllowLargeItems switch.  I have tried through ecp and powershell using both New-MoveRequest and New-MigrationBatch cmdlets.
Any ideas?

Thanks again for responding.  I really appreciate the help.
I combined a few of the suggestions...I moved one of the mailboxes in question to another 2010 DB with no issue, I increased the BadItemLimit and due to the fact that inheritance was already checked I ran -ApplyMandatoryProperties (I stopped there to
see the results).  The mailbox is still moving (as it takes a really, really long time) and my assumption is that it will still fail.  I wanted to provide and update as to the status.
This time though, I ran get-MoveRequestStatistics <mailbox> -IncludeReport and what I saw was the following:
Status: InProgress
StatusDetail: Transient failure
Then the log loops through the same failure over and over again.  It gets to a point where "FinalIncrementalSync" is 95% complete and then I receive the "Transient error MapiExceptionTooBig has occurred."  As mentioned, it just keeps retrying
this same process as indicated in the log.

  • MailBox Move Request Statistics

    Hello,
I am performing some mailbox moves on one of our systems here in testing for a migration. I believe I need to increase the number of CPUs on the virtual machine I am using but wanted to ask to be sure. Currently we have one of the return values of Get-MoveRequestStatistics
    for a user showing as:
    TotalStalledDueToWriteCpu              : 00:22:36
Does this mean the move is waiting on CPU?
    Thank you,
    Brent

    Hello Brent,
Yes, this does potentially indicate the CPU resource issue on your VM.
Also couple of points to note from virtualization best practice/recommendation prospective...
Many hardware virtualization products allow you to specify the number of virtual processors that should be allocated to each guest virtual machine. The virtual processors located in the guest virtual machine share a fixed number of logical processors in
the physical system. Exchange supports a virtual processor-to-logical processor ratio no greater than 2:1, although we recommend a ratio of 1:1. For example, a dual processor system using quad core processors contains a total of 8 logical processors in the
host system. On a system with this configuration, don't allocate more than a total of 16 virtual processors to all guest virtual machines combined.
When calculating the total number of virtual processors required by the host machine, you must also account for both I/O and operating system requirements. In most cases, the equivalent number of virtual processors required in the host operating system for
a system hosting Exchange virtual machines is 2. This value should be used as a baseline for the host operating system virtual processor when calculating the overall ratio of physical cores to virtual processors. If performance monitoring of the host operating
system indicates you're consuming more processor utilization than the equivalent of 2 processors, you should reduce the count of virtual processors assigned to guest virtual machines accordingly and verify that the overall virtual processor-to-physical core
ratio is no greater than 2:1.

  • Autodiscover fails after mailbox move

    Hello,
Environment: existing exchange 2010 org, with new Exchange 2013 introduced. Clients are Outlook 2013. Clients can connect to all mailbox on the 2010 Server, also can connect to new mailboxes on the 2013 Server. But if I move an existing mailbox from
the 2010 Server to the 2013 server Outlook cannot connect anymore, because autodiscover fails. Both servers use the same autodiscover settings, SCP contains the same URL.
    TIA
Update: I've just installed an Outlook 2010 for testing purposes and it is working! From this point it may be rather a client side problem than a server side...

    Hey there,
I actually installed 2013 using the CU5 install files. So you are right, CU5 does not matter from a first look, but it does matter overall for this issue. Keep reading.
Tangent: This appears to be unrelated but I will mention it anyways. I noticed, after the mailbox was migrated that when I am on the internal network, autodiscover fails the same way it does for you. However, when I bring the client off the corporate network
and have it connect via the public Internet, autodiscover suceeds. When testing with EXRCA autodiscover also succeeds. Please do note that external access to Exchange is handled by Microsoft's Web Application Proxy.  This proxy performs "pass-through"
authentication of autodiscover so that may have something to do with it.
Back to the main issue of Outlook staying disconnected after the migration.  I wasn't going anywhere with this so I opened a case with Microsoft. I was able to replicate the problem with the support tech and they were also able to replicate this in
their lab. This was the conclusion:
This is a known issue. It happens because when a mailbox is moved to 2013, the mailbox itself still has a cache entry that points the client back to the 2010 server. From what Microsoft said, this cache expires in an "undetermined" time interval
for Exchange 2013 SP1 up to CU4 and every "2 to 2.5 hours" in Exchange 2013 CU5. They could not reference a KB article with this info.
Microsoft mentioned that the cache is also cleared when recycling the IIS Application Pool that runs RPC on the 2013 CAS server which is also caused by an IISreset. However, I have not been able to verify the application pool recycle method in my tests.
From what I can see, IISreset is the only way to clear the cache. I have sent a follow-up to Microsoft asking which App Pools specifically need to be recycled to avoid having to perform a full IISreset. I will test and report back here.
In any case, here is my strategy moving forward which was blessed by the Microsoft team:
Create a migration batch for a number of users (in my case I will make it 5 to 10 users at a time)
Select to "Manually Complete the batch" in the "New Local Mailbox Move" window. This process will migrate 95% of the mailbox and then stop.
Once the migration has gone through 95% and it stops syncing, the batch shows as "synced" on the migration window. Until this point in the process, users are able to use Outlook without any interruption and the move is invisible to them.
When I am ready to finish the migration, I will select to "Complete This Migration Batch" on the ECP Migration screen. At this time, users that have Outlook open will receive a prompt to
restart it. When Outlook re-opens it will show as "Disconnected" until the next step is performed.
Once the batch shows as "completed" I will perform an IISreset on the 2013 CAS server (or recycle the appropriate app pools once Microsoft provides them to me.) At this time, Outlook will show as "Connected to Microsoft Exchange" and
users will receive a second prompt to restart Outlook. After the second restart you'll be good to go!
I will try to time my migration so they complete after hours, when most people are less likely to have Outlook open.  Don't forget, that the cache entry that causes all these issues is cleared after about 2 to 2.5 hours if you are on 2013 CU5. In any
case, I think it's better if you have control over when the migration finishes by opting to complete it manually.
    Hope this helps.
    Fable
EDIT: Microsoft has confirmed that recycling the following Application Pools makes Outlook connect to Exchange 2013:
    Exchange 2013 CAS Server:
    MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool
    MSExchangeRpcProxyFrontEndAppPool
    Exchange 2013 Mailbox Server:
    MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool
    MSExchangeRpcProxyAppPool
If you decide to not do an iisreset and opt for recycling the App Pools instead, be advised that after the AppPools are recycled, Outlook connects to Exchange and asks to be restarted. If you close Outlook and immediately open it again, you will be prompted
with a username and password pop-up (At least I was in all my tests of this method.) This issue is resolved if, after you close Outlook, wait 5 to 10 minutes before you re-open it. You will not be prompted for a user/pass at this point.

  • Export to mov file failing

My attempts to export my sequence in mov format using compressor keep failing. I am getting an error in the log that reads, "Failed to create movie markers." I can't figure out what is going wrong.
    Any ideas??

Thanks for your input. I think the main issue is that i originally captured the video using another peice of software. These files were 1440x1080 so i was getting 'letter boxing' on the left and right. After doing a lot of reading, i now understand the importance of selecting the correct project setting
Leading on from this, I'm about to do some more filming and have hired a HDV camcorder (Sony HVR 27p - PAL). It's 1080i and can film in interlaced (25 or 50fps) or progressive. (25fps)
    My questions are:
The required output playback file (mov file format) needs to be progressive. Should i film in progressive as well, or stick with interlaced and change the output settings when creating the output file?
If i stick with interlaced, do i film in 50 or 25 as the output file needs to be 25fps?
Although the camera captures 16:9, the pixels are 1440x1080 (which by all accounts in usual with HDV cameras.) Do i select a project setting whose setup is 1440x1080 or do i use 1720x1080?
Thanks a lot for your help so far.

  • MailBox Move Error With Exchange 2010 sp3

I initiated a mailbox move for a specific mailbox and let it run all night. The next day, the user stated he cannot log into is mailbox and the error stated "mailbox is moving, check back later".
Exchange stated the status of the move is "CompletedWithError". I noticed that the mailbox is still in the old database.
I tried to remove the move request and received an error "couldn't find a move request that corresponds to this identity".
    I rebooted the exchange server.
Exchange still shows the user in the old database
There is no move requests in exchange
The user is still experiencing the same error "You weren't able ti sign in because the mailbox is being move"
I tried to initiated another move and received:

This could be because of one of the following reasons:
Another administrator is currently moving the mailbox.
      The mailbox is locked.
The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service (MRS) doesn't have the correct permissions.
Network errors are preventing MRS from cleanly closing its session with the Mailbox server. If this is the case, MRS may continue to encounter this error for up to 2 hours - this duration is controlled by the TCP KeepAlive settings on the Mailbox server.
Wait for the mailbox to be released before attempting to move this mailbox again.

    Hi Cudflyn,
Base on my search, you can try to increase the TCP Keep Alive Time for the servers involved in the move. You can refer to the following
    article to increase it:

Note: Just REMEMBER to DELETE the registry entry when the mailbox moves are compete!

  • Exchange 2007 mailbox move gone bad(?)

     Hi to all,
I wonder if you can help me and point me to a direction to very "tricky" situation:
A have the datastore1 and datastore2. I have a backup (using backupexec) of both of them from Monday.
I moved some mailboxes from datastore1 to datastore2. Move completed successfully.
Later on, Disk on which datastore2 had corrupted, before a backup with the moved mailboxes has taken place. The files that exist now in the dir are:
    \CatalogData-42f294a5-16b2-4c13-9080-698b7a7443bc-cc64dd2d-2428-4f12-bba2-79d6d34c4d27
    E03.chk
    E03.log
    E0300000B44.log
    [lot's of files....]
    E03000117E6.log
    E03000117E7.log
    E03000117E8.log
    E03000117E9.log
    E03000117EA.log
    E03res00001.jrs
    E03res00002.jrs
    tmp.edb
...as you can imagine the tmp.edb is not the filename of the datastore.
Can anyone suggest what can be done to recover the mailboxes??
Thank you in advance for any ideas...

Were you keeping the database and log files in the same directory? If you were, the problem isn't an Exchange problem, it's a problem of "where did the database file go".
If the assumption is that the file simply gone, with no hope of recovery, you can create a recovery storage group (RSG) and put the backup of the database of datastore1 in there. Then you can delete all the files for datastore2 and mount the database
(creating an empty database). You can them recover the contents of the mailboxes you moved (as of Monday) from the RSG to the empty datastore2. You'll have lost everything between Monday's backup and the time you created the empty datastore2 database.

  • Video keeps failing the harding test - working with stock. Can you help??!

I have made a music promo, unfortuantely i have had it back from MTV twice now as it keeps failing the harding test (to test to see if it triggers epilietic siezures).
I am working with stock from the prelinger archives, which - to be honest - has been a nightmare to work with for various reasons.
The wierd thing is, the test has failed twice, both on different areas. I edited the video after it failed the first time, then it failed on a totally un-related area on the second test, which the first test didn't pick up.
I am getting "luminance flashes" between 0.5 and 2.2. Is there a way I can filter these out in the edit rather than get the video sent back again? The "luminance flshes" can not even be made out to the naked eye. I have changed the problem areas, then it picks up something else once I send it to MTV again.
Clearly something is happening when I export the video and get it transferred to Digibeta (same file, same edit - just changed slightly), OR - something is happening in Final Cut pro when I export to DV tape which is making this happen.
£60 a time for a digibeta transfer is becomming quite expensive. Especially if I get it sent back again!

I am getting "luminance flashes" between 0.5 and 2.2.
    What is this value?
The "luminance flshes" can not even be made out to the naked eye. I have changed the problem areas, then it picks up something else once I send it to MTV again.
A flash that cannot be seen by YOUR eye takes place at the field level and you are probably watching your video on a progressive monitor that cannot display fields.
A test that indicates you fialed should provide a precise timecode reference for each episode. If not, or if the failures move, their test is suspect.
Is there a way I can filter these out in the edit rather than get the video sent back again?
Without seeing your video, field by field, there's no way to really know where to send you for help. You do not seem to have the technical ability or facility to perform the quality assurance required by MTV. Their engineers should be able to offer some technical assistance or refer you to a good post production house that can cure your problems once and for all. However, it is a simple matter to apply color and luma correction at your current dub house when they do your transfer. They should be doing that for you anyway.

  • Exchange 2010 mailbox moves get stalled

I am Experiencing an issue with Exchange 2010 SP3 UR2 two node DAG environment (server01 and server02). While moving mailboxes from old Exchange 2007 environment I get following errors.
Move for mailbox xxxxxxxxxxxx is stalled because DataMoveReplicationConstraint is not satisfied for the database 'MDB01' (agent MailboxDatabaseReplication). Failure Reason: Database does not satisfy constraint SecondCopy. Throttling completion as database copies
    are falling behind.
Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus informs me that server02 Copy and ReplayQueue length on the passive copy are getting big (from 10-500) while moving and the throttling will always pause the move for a while and then start again until it stops again because the
second copy is falling behind. This only happens when I move mailboxes to databases that have active copy of the database on my server01 and passive on server 02. If the active copy is moved to server02 and server01 is the passive copy this does not happen.
So this leads to a conclusion that there is something wrong with server02 replication from server01.
I've traced the replication network and there are no issues. What could be the reason that only the second node suffers from falling back during moves? I would not like to se the datamovereplicationconstraint value to none since this is the only Exhchange
2010 DAG environment where I am facing this issue and the replication should keep up while mailbox moves.

    Hello,
" I would not like to see the datamovereplicationconstraint value to none". Do you mean you set
DataMoveReplicationConstraint to SecondCopy? If so, I recommend you use test-replicationhealth cmdlet to check all aspects of the replication and replay status.

  • Exchange 2013 Mailbox Move FailedOther

I am attempting to move 600 Mailboxes from my Exchange 2010 SP3 environment over to my Exchange 2013 environment all in all everything is going smooth Exchange is functioning properly.
I have successfully moved half of my users in which I found a problem with 2 accounts. The move status shows "FailedOther" at 95% complete. I have been searching the google for 2 days now and I have not found a solution to this problem. The user
account still shows that is on our old Exchange 2010 server. I have attempted to force restart the move but that fails and it says at FailedOther.
Has anyone seen this problem before? My Environment is as follows
1 Server Mailbox server EMS - Mail box roles -  Specs 8 Procs, 14 GB of RAM running on a VM Server 2012 DC
1 Server Cas server - Client access server -  4 Procs, 12 GB Ram running on a VM Server 2012 DC
Exchange 2013 CU1 and all accumulative updates since CU1 release.
I read some where this was because I didn't have enough resources for the move which I then bumped up the server to the current specs and rebooted the VM. I restarted the move with
    Get-MoveRequest | where{$_.Status -eq "FailedOther"} | Resume-MoveRequest
Do I need to remove this move request and start from the beginning or should this command work?

I actually figured out this problem on my own.
I did this to resolve problem.
    Remove-MoveRequest -Identity username
New-MoveRequest -Identity "username" -TargetDatabase "MAILDatabase" -BatchName "Username" -BadItemLimit "200"
My research shows that our EMS server lost connection to our 2010 Exchange server during the finalization of the move which caused the move to fail. As the last 5% of the move is the clean up process of removing the mailbox and all items off of the old mail
    server.
I hope this information is useful to someone else.
Incredible, that worked a treat. Many thanks for taking the time out to post this solution as about 10 of my 50mailboxes got to 95% and failed with this message and now they're working :)

  • Exchange 2010 - 2013 Mailbox move - Syncing with no progress (Stalled?)

I'm in the process of moving mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, the major of the mailboxes have moved successfully, however I did not anticipate the additional space required by Exchange 2013 and ran out of disk space during the mailbox move,
and some mailboxes did not move successfully.
I have since added additional space but can't seem to get the remaining mailboxes to sync.
    I have tried :
    Rebooting
Clearing out migration batches and recreating
    Stopping and resuming batches.
I see nothing helpful in the Migration log files.
2013-05-20T23:59:57.904Z,14,MigrationServicelet,Information,",827890ff-522d-4c13-9f42-96fbfefb57f4,,","Job type ExchangeLocalMove, status SyncStarting, result Working, length 0.2724593, job :827890ff-522d-4c13-9f42-96fbfefb57f4:ExchangeLocalMove:Staged:4::SyncStarting:2013-05-17

When I download the report for one of the users I see this, but don't know what it means :
The job is currently stalled due to 'Content Indexing' lagging behind on resource 'CiAgeOfLastNotification(Mailbox Database 2065686096)'
For one of the other users the downloaded report only shows :

Additional Info:  I followed the info located here in regards to creating the ContentSubmitters group:
    http://www.bullspit.co.uk/2013/04/08/exchange-2013-content-indexing-during-migration/
My mailbox database currently has Content index state: FailedAndSuspended
I only have one database, I am not using DAG

I had already created the contentsubmitters and it helped with the speed of the mailbox moves.  We have a SMB with >100 users and everything was working great, migrating from 2007 to 2013.  If I had it to do over, maybe it would have been better
to go to 2010 on a 2008 R2 box but decided to jsut go straight to 2013 on a 2012 R2 server.  But the one thing I REALLY wish I had to do over again is to allocate about 3 times more space to the drive that was to hold the mailbox database.  Everything
was working so well until a mailbox was being moved - a batch of several, I was doing maybe 5 at a time for the larger mailboxes - the disk filled up.  Also, before I realized what was going on, I ran some cmdlets thinking my receive connectors weren't
right.  I recovered the database - at first it would not mount at all... but after eseutil /r and /p (and allocating more disk space) I could mount the database and open the mailboxes.  But from then on, nothing is being received and if you send,
it goes to sent items - doesn't hang in outbox, but never goes anyhere except into a queue.  I have MS support working on it and it's been escalated to the top. If they fix it I will try to post any helpful information I can learn from it. But one
lesson - I will read the planning and preparations documentation thoroughly from now on.
Oh, and also, I keep getting this message in the ECP when navigating to the Recipients>migration applet:
Cannot open mailbox /o=<Organization>/ou=Exchange Asministrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/CN=<yourExchangeserver>/cn=Microsoft System Attendant.
If you did the same thing, (and didn't hang yourself or jump in front of a speeding locomotive), you are stronger than I.  Not that I have taken the path of the Samurai network admin or anything....
And if you were able to fix it, I am impressed and would love to know how you fixed this.
    Thanks and best,
    Sam

  • Mailbox Move from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

I was surpprised to see that when I move mailboxes from exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, that the mailbox being moved does not get disconnected during the move process (client Outlook connection). That is great news but supprising to me. I know
moving from 2010 - 2013 or 2013 - 2013 is a background process. Did something change with this recently or has it always been this way? Does the mailbox move flag inside the mailbox just jet ignored?
    Thanks

When you do a mailbox move it stays connected during the initial sync.  Once the initial sync is performed, there is another phase where it completes the mailbox move (basically updates some AD attributes) when this piece happens users will not be able
    to access their mailboxes.
You can control this behavior by setting the SuspendWhenReadyToComplete
switch either by command line when creating the move request via the EMS
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351123%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Or if you are doing this via the the EAC select "Manually Complete the batch" option before starting the move.
