Sony Xperia Z1 Water Resistivity false advertising and poor service from service center

I have bought Sony Xperia Z1 from eBay on 31 October 2013. I have been using this phone for nearly a year. The phone was good in performance but comes to water resistivity it will resist water for a few months but after few months even though the card slot and all flops are closed, the water gets in.I have faced this on 7th September when i was about to take a photo in pool, the water gets in and the phone was dead. And i took it to the service center ( Repair and Return Technology (I) Pvt Ltd) Egmore, chennai, on 9th September 2014. On 15th September i got a call that i have to pay nearly 20000 to rectify the phone. Then i called the service center and also sent mail to [email protected] and said that i was not satisfied with the reply. Then few days i again got mail like below
We understand your concern towards the service of your Sony XPERIA Z1.
We had received your Sony XPERIA Z1 at our Authorized Service Centre – M/S Repair and Return Technology, Egmore, vide Work Order No.W114090906449 with the nature of complaint “Cannot Power On”.
Upon physical inspection of the product by our engineers, the phone was found to be damaged due to external cause of liquid regression. As we mentioned in our Warranty Terms and Conditions, this service is not covered under Warranty. The Main Board needs to be replaced for satisfactory working of the product. The estimate for this service is Rs 12,488/- and Service charge is Rs.350/-.
This matter has been discussed with our management.
We regret that we are unable to comply with your request for free of cost service. We would once again request you to kindly approve the estimate so that we can proceed for service.
We solicit your kind understanding in this regard.
Thanking you and assuring you of our best services always.
Warm Regards,
Sony India Pvt. Ltd.
They just mention the flags turn red and so the water has got in. They were unable to explain how the water got in. I have seen several forums that many users facing this kind of issues even all the flaps are closed. I was completely stressed and depressed to hear this. I halfheartedly asked the service center to do the service on 1 October 2014. Today's date is 11 October 2014 but still now i haven't heard any update from SONY. When i asked SONY customer care or service center, they dont even know the status of the product, they saying that the phone has been given for service to next level, I have to wait for few days, But i have been waiting for 1 month. I was completely fed up with Sony Service as they are not even called me once regarding this. I have to call each and every time and not even get proper reply. Its very irritating.
If SONY is viewing this do necessary action or else you'll lose a premium customer and more customers in future.
Even though i got the phone how can i use this phone in water ? I completely lost trust in SONY and never buy any SONY product again. I'll go for Micromax next time.
Order No.W114090906449
Sony XPERIA Z1, Model No. C6902,
IMEI No.
I see many users here are suffering the same problem,
Beware of buying Xperia Water resistant products as it may not guarantee waterproof and they don't even give warranty if your phone got water.

Narayanan
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I have had the same problem I have wrote to customer services and I keeping the same reply, that the phone has to be less than 1.5 meters, less than half an hour....... blah blah blah.
My phone failed in water and I had met all the conditions but they keep fobbing me off I have asked why they advertise the phone as waterproof when obviously its not.  The last reply I got was well it might not be waterproof.
Absolute rubbish the phone and the customer service.  and dont get me started on the smartwatch that failed in water as well it never worked I threw it in the bin.
Aviod sony products absolute junk I say.

Hi! I have transfered sucessfully all my content from iPhone 5 to my Xperia z3.   I used Sony Bridge for Mac doing that. It said, that in the end it would be a "pop up" on my phone giving me further instructions how to open the apps, messages on the phone - but It never came one.I can see that the content is over, because it now have 9GB less memory than before, but I have now Idea how I can come in contact with the content. Ideas, anyone?  All the best,HeatoN

  • Click to Tweet and Facebook Posts from Notification Center Stopped Working????!

Ok right now I am REALLY confused. About a week ago, I went to post something on twitter. Naturally, instead of having to go to twitter.com and signing in, I used the Notification center "Click to Tweet" button to make my post. It worked just as you would expect. The little screen popped up, I typed my post and tweeted it.
Just a few days ago, both the Tweet and Facebook Post buttons stopped working. I can click on them all I want, but the little index card-like screen never shows up. I don't know what the issue is, since I had both buttons working a few days ago. To try solving the issue I:
    1. Went into the settings for notifications and "Hid" the buttons from Notification center (that didn't work)
    2. Removed both my accounts from my laptop and re-added them (that didn't work)
    3. Checked to see that the password was correctly typed in... it was (and that still didn't work)
The only thing I have left to do is try shutting down my laptop and restarting it. However I recently had some iPhoto software updates that required the laptop to be restarted. Even though this was after the problem started, it still didn't fix it.
One more thing to note is that in Safari where the "Share" button is... that still works fine. I shared a website I was on to Facebook and it posted successfully. The only problem is the functions in Notification Center.
If anybody has a solution to this issue where the Tweet and Facebook Post buttons stop functioning for Notification center, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
    - Dan (ThunderBow98)
NOTE- One other thing. Notifications from Facebook and Twitter still work, however. For instance, I just got a friend request approved on Facebook and that appeared as it should with the little banner notification as well as it appearing in my list of notifications. Somebody re-tweated my tweet and that appeared there too. The only thing that isn't working is the posting features.

Same thing with me but the Safari thing also doesn't work. I recently changed my twitter username so I thought that might be the problem, but no it isn't. Unfortunately, I can only complain with you, not help you, I apologize, Dan!

  • Problems with discovering services from Service Registry in VC and NWDS

    Hello,
I have followed step 1 "Brokered Service implemented in own system" in blog
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs;jsessionid=(J2EE3414900)ID1803376250DB00062216078043496017End?blog=/pub/wlg/8788
in order to publish  a service from PI to the Services Registry (SR).
It works fine and I can find the service in the SR and also test it successfully.
However I can't discover the service from within Visual Composer or NWDS.
I succeed in discovering standard SAP Enterprise Services from VC and NWDS.
    I'm working on CE 7.1 EHP 1 and PI 7.1 EHP 1.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    // Best regards  Hans

    Hello Hans,
Sorry, may be I should have been more specific.
First, I want to verify that you're using at least Ehp1 SP2.
The information that I need is the complete system details:
Name, Host, SLD System ID, Type, ABAP Client.
In addition, please reverify that you have a valid link to the endpoint.
Only if you're using a version Ehp1 SP2 onwards, here are the seetings that you should fill:
    1. Open NWA>'SOA Managment'>'Application and Scenario Communication'
    2. Press on 'Single Service Administration' link
    3. Press on 'Customer Proxies' tab
    4. In the 'find' text box select for 'sr' and press on 'Go' button
    5. Select the 'ServicesRegistrySi' (This is the proxy to the Services Registry backend)
    6. Press on 'Configuration' tab
    7. Select the 'ServicesRegistrySiPort' (If it's the only result it will be marked by default)
    8. Press on the 'Edit' button and insert your SR URL
       (for example: http://sr.esworkplace.sap.com:80/ServicesRegistrySiService/ServicesRegistrySiPort)
    9. Press on the 'Security' tab and insert the requried authentication if needed
In this example it will be:
       username: <your user namr>
       password: <your password>
    10. Save this configuration
    11. Defined proxy (if needed): NWA>'SOA Managment'>'Technical Configuration'
    12. Press on 'SOA Middleware Global settings and type the proxy's settings
    12. Save settins
    14. Now you can work with Service Registry in VC (server)
In case you're using a lower version than Ehp1 SP2, please use the following link to configure your system:

  • Noise on home phone(landline) every so often and poor dial up service

why can't verizon be better service providers and take the time to give you better phone service
i have to report the same problem every few weeks and the problem is never fixed for more than
2 days.   can't report problems at home due to the poor dial up service and poor phone lines
also get told that dsl is available by one person and then someone else tells you no.
i have no other options to either problem and that is probably why i get poor service

    welcome to the forum

  • Xperia z1, too many problems and poor response from sony.

I thought Xperia z1 is best has sony made ever in every department but it's not. I'm very disappointed with sony's neglected response. I contacted sony 2 times but there is no response. also in support forum can't to get response sometimes. I agree with it is a best camera, yep in day light it's a best but in low light it's worse. z1 can't beat even Xperia c mid range phone. then why sony called z1 is a flagship. on white paper everything is good but practicaly it's not. I don't know what is the in z1 series. it freezes and screen getting black after that even restart button also didn't work sometimes,, 2) network issue 3) lowlight photography is worse compare to other high end smartphones.
performance is good but need new software update for optimisation.. I was very happy when I bought but now I'm dossapointed with sony neglect response. battery drains very fast also.

    I suggest you contact sony:

  • Sony Xperia M2 flashing Red LED light and wont turn on.

Okay so i have been having this problem for about a week.I tried turning on my phone the other day but it wasnt doing that so i thought maybe it ran out of battery then i let i charge for a couple of hours and left it untouched. When i came back my phone was flashing a red light and the sony logo would apear and my phone would vibrate but then it would shut down again. This has been happening for all week i let it charge overnight but still the same thing happens flashing red and vibrating.Sometimes the light dosent flash and i can turn my phone on for a while but i never know when it could randomly shut down.i tried using the Pc companion program to try and fix it but my phone wont stay on for long enough for it to be able to do that.Any tips on what i could do ? the last thing i wanna do right now is call sony so please if you know any possible way of fixing this let me know

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Have you tried to power on the phone without SIM- and/or SD-card to see if this can help? Otherwise, a software repair via PC Companion would be recommeded:
    http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
In PC Companion you press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Repair phone/tablet (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.
Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it. When you are going to connect the phone, the phone should be completely off. Hold the ON/OFF button + volume up(+) for 10 seconds.

  • Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Randomly Shut Down and Is completely Unresponsive

    HELP!
My phone has just randomly shut down. And is completely unresponsive.
I have put it on charge for a good 3/4 hours and the red light is not coming on, nothing happens when I try to turn on the phone either!!
    PLEASE HELP ME

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP
If that fails then you need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

  • False Marketing and very unhelpful Customer Service

I got an email from Best Buy ob February 4 about 3X Rewards Points Promotion. As I was planning on purchasing a 65" TV, I walked into BestBuy store on February 28, 2015 but could not find it available at that time. So, I thought I will purchase $1400 worth of Best Buy Gift card to use later, I emphasize Best Buy GIFT CARD and not CARDS. At the checkout counter I told I wanted $1400 worth of Best Buy Gift card and the associate started doing something and I waited to get my GIFT CARD. To my surprise, he handed me over $1400 worth of Visa Gift cards without my consent and he said he cannot take them back. I showed him the coupon for 3x Rewards and said I want to use it for the purhcase. He confirmed I will get the points for the purchase and he scanned the 3x Rewards promo coupon. I ended up paying the activation fee of $42 as well
I see that I was awarded Rewards only for the base purchase amount and 3X points were not credited to my account. This is very frsutrating. First off, I didnt want to purhcase Visa Gift cards and pay activation fee which I had to. And above all I did not get the 3X points. I am an eliteplus member, called the Customer service atleast 5 times and each time I call there will be a minimum wait of 15 - 20 minutes and then I repeat my story and the agents have no clue what to do. They keep transferring me to someone and then I wait again.
Why does Best Buy send this kind of False Marketing if it cant support the customers timely? Is this how you make money? I am going to report this to BBB for sure.

    Good morning jhprasad,
As we discussed via private message, the 3X coupon in-question did not exclude the purchase of Best Buy gift cards; however, the purchase of other gift cards (including prepaid Visa) were excluded from the coupon offer.  We were not present when you purchased the gift cards three weeks ago to know what was or was not said, and our store employees cannot force you to swipe your credit card and purchase anything.  If you would like to continue to discuss the issues at hand, then please reply to the private message that I sent you on Monday.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

  • Report for extracting the actual and planned cost from service orders

    HI all
we are creating a report in BI for Module - Customer service . LIke , the report is all about how many complaints created in the system and how many completed technically and what is the cost involved for each complaint .
Like we want the comparision between the planned cost and the actual cost .
Now to give the logic to the BI Team for planned cost and actual cost , please suggest the flow of logic or table flow to arrive the planned and actual cost
    thanks in advance

    Hi Marthand,
I am not sure which datasource your are using. In this case, you can use the 0VALUETYPE to differencitae between th eplan and actuals. Normally Plan which is budget will have value 050 and for actuals will have 010. For costs, you will have one key figure and at the reporting level, you will have the costs restricted by the value type for plan and actual to make comparisons.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Srinivas

  • Copying start and end dates from service request contract to tasks

I am working on a logical apps program that is supposed to go to the service request screens and update the PLANNED_START_DATE and the PLANNED_END_DATE of a task for that service request on file JTF_TASKS_B with the start date and end date of the active contract associated with that service request and task. I think some of the contract information is available in OKS_PM_SCHEDULES_V, CS_SR_INCIDENTS_V, and CS_INCIDENTS. It may also be available in other files. I need to know of a contract file that can be used to link the contract to the corresponding task. I can't seem to find any files with task, contract number and service request all in one file.

    Glenda,
You are right. All the three object you mentioned ( SR, Tasks and Contracts) are not referenced in a single file( or Table).
You can use this relationship though to get this information.
Tasks will be associated to a SR through source_ID and source_type. Source_ID will be the primary key, incident_id in CS_INCIDENTS_ALL_B table. This table incidentally also contains the contract_number and service_contract_id which gives the contract information.

  • Bad Policies and Poor In-store Service (again)

In the past In-store pick up was a convenience. Most people I know shop in store rather than order online and pick up in store. My disability makes it easier to order online and pickup in store, if there is no free shipping. Everyone has a sob story but my disability is not something correctable by any means. Anyway, I have had a couple documented problems with this store before. This is not my first complaint. My main issue is with store policy but the CSR at this store make it personal, I feel. Simple issues like: I order a video game in my name with payment in my name. I put my wfie as the person to pick up order. Opportunity arises for my to pick it up but the store denies me even though my name and account information matches my physical credentials 100%. This scenario happens over and over in different combinations. Every time it is resolved I am assured it will never happen again. Today was a slightly different scenario but I reacted like it was the same situation. FYI, "I have been a great professional CSR for many years. I am an expert problem solver. Turning the worst customer into a satisfied customer was the reason I chose the field." Not all the staff at this store is incompetent. I have met one manager that made me want to shop there and I wish I knew her name. Every time I traded games and electronics in the past the associates were great. Off track a little sorry. SO, I called the 800 number to get a resolution and the first rep was not a help. The second CSR, Jeanine I believe, was able to communicate what the actual problem was. I felt like she cared about my problem and explained the policy clearly and what caused the problem with this particular instore pickup. The outcome was no different than before but it took a professional customer service rep to deescalate the problem. Like I said before, "everyone has a sob story." A good CSR shows the same courtesy to everyone but also recognize a "true story." I reached a resolution on the phone with the CSR. While I was finishing up my wife comes out with the order. Which brings me back to the in store Customer Service Representatives or Associates whichever term you prefer. My wife comes out of the store disturbed by what a blonde haired CSR was saying about me causing a disturbance. I feel stupid revealing my personal problems to a couple of high schoolers but I chose to reveal my disability. I admit I was visibly angered by the CSR at in store pick up. My tone was very angry but my volume was respectful. I was far from belligerent and if these people can't handle something this simple they need to move to a different position. I look like a big mean man but you can't judge a book by its cover. Yes I wanted to "hulk out" but I stayed respectful. I walked out the store to call phone support. If I wanted to cause a scene I would have stayed in that situation and escalated it further. I know what a good youtube freak out looks like. Instead I cried and called phone support. FYI my wife says I yell at home when I consider it normal conversation haha. I could care less what people say about me but when you upset my wife I feel like a complaint needs to be filed. Cliff Notes:
    1. Best Buy needs to enhance or clearly state store policy to improve convenience for customers..
    2. CSR's at this brick and mortar need better training and maybe sensativity training?
    3. Not all shifts are dysfunctional
    4. Respect all people no matter their appearance. Human kindness goes a long way. OFFTOPIC
I avoid this B&M thanks to CSR. This it the only Best Buy within 80 to 100 mile radius so not like I can just go the the good one across town. I think this is a prime market that isn't fully tapped because of this reason. I am sure there are tons of complaints that are never really heard. I can not say it any more simple. Best Buy is losing revenue at a brick and mortar in a market where 80-90% of customers shop in store. The potential revenue loss here should raise red flags if customer service is not a high priority. I have helped run a smaller businesses with 50 or less employees in the service industry. Reputation is the most important in our market. CSR is the second most important because it's literally the face of the company. The Best Buy Store in Valdosta GA on Norman DR fails miserably at both these aspects. I spent $1400 at Gamestop last month but Best Buy is the superior retailer. That's not an opinion it's fact when comparing all aspects. Except one. GameStop has a less than desirable store located in the same area as the Best Buy but I can go across town to the good GameStop. My theory is Best Buy is in prime real estate like the GameStop. Like most places the best staff probably works during the prime shift and I shop during off hours. Higher traffic areas tend to have a higher turn around which means lack of training. The other GameStop can't afford to slack during off hours so their entire staff is trained at the same high standard to avoid loss of revenue.

    Hello painkillah1,
Store pickup is a great option for many, especially with the option of listing a family member or friend on the order for pickup. Only you or the designated pickup person may pick up the order, per our Store Pickup page on BestBuy.com. I am truly sorry if you had trouble picking up the order yourself if you had all matching information.
I can imagine you and your wife were quite appalled if your wife heard any disrespectful comments coming from the associate that assisted you. Of course, we should always be sure we are maintaining a respectful and courteous environment, and I apologize if this is not what you or your wife encountered when you visited the Valdosta, GA store to pick up your order.
Using the information you registered with the forum, I was able to see you spoke with a couple different phone agents regarding this issue, and I’m glad to see you were offered a resolution. Please know that I will also be noting your feedback from your post in great detail so that we may use it to improve our methods and training in the future. If you should have any other questions or need further assistance, please let us know!

  • New phone and possible extortion with false advertisement

So I went to the nerby verizon store as a continuing customer and bought a new phone on October 29th. They told me I wouldn't be allowed to keep my old number because when I added it to my relatives family plan it was automatically put on a contract (without my knowing). So I had to get a new number. I signed up with the following plan (as shown on the chart they handed me):
Smart Phone ($40 unlimited talk and text nationwide)
    4GB Data Plan ($70)
Bringing it to a total of $110
Since I am a qualcomm employee, they said I get the 20% discount. 20% of $110 brings it to a total of $89.
I have a showing of $300 (for the phone) and $110 (for the first monthy fee) being taken from my bank account. When I asked to store clerk why I am paying the extra $21, he said that is for the activation fee, and I said okay. I confirmed if the re-occuring monthly charges are setup to be automatically deducted from my bank account and the clerk confirmed that it was setup. Here is were things go wrong. A month later I get a phone call saying I never payed my monthly fee and owe $229.87. I need to pay this immidiately or my service will be cancelled. Not having enough time in the weekday to talk with verizon due to work I head over to their store today on the weekend to investigate this. They tell me I never payed $110 according to their records and there is nothing they can do about the fee. They give me a number to financial services who is nothing but an automated system over the weekends. I'm thinking once I actually get ahold of a person who can help me with this, not only will I have to pay a late fee (due to the clerk lieing too me or screwing something up), but these numbers don't match up at all with the $110 I am supposed to be paying monthly let alone the 20% discount I should be getting. Should I start calling a lawyer for false advertisement and extortion?

    First let's clear this up
    Line Access Fee $40
Unlimited talk and text with 4 GB data $70.
I'm not sure why people thin the talk and text applies to the $40 when it's clearly doesn't when you look at the plans.
Anyway you get 20% off the "data" part which would be a $14 discount. Accusing Verizon of extortion and false advertisement on a public messageboard is a serious charge and grounds for a libel suit if you can't prove your accusations( which you can;t )

  • My Experience with Sony Xperia Tablet S (so far)

For the Sony Xperia Tablet S, the bootloader is still locked, so getting an official install of Android is still impossible.  I've decided to root it and clean it up as much as possible.  At this point, It's either that or take it skeet shooting.
After rooting the tablet, I have managed to clean some of the junkware up manually.  It's not the solution to the problem (only Sony or a judge can right their wrong), but getting rid of this junk seemed to help to some extent.  Here is a list of all the apks that I manually deleted (season to taste).
Obvious disclaimer, here:  If you brick your device, it's your fault and not mine.  One thing that you COULD do though, is encourage Sony to up their morals and do the right thing by giving us the capability of unlocking our bootloaders.  Selling people locked down hardware without the ability to unlock it is like selling someone a house and then telling them after the fact that they cannot clean the junk out of it, or modify it, or paint it, or fix the plumming, or replace the carpet, or even use the front door...  I think you get the idea.  It's a morally corrupt thing to do, IMO, and I think that Sony should be ashamed of themselves for locking us out of our own property.
I'm not nearly finished cleaning the tablet up yet (I'm going to take a break and get some reading in, but will focus on the system files next).  At a minimum, this list can serve as a big chunk of useless fat that people can lipo out of their tablets if they so desire.

There are probably a few files that I removed and did not mention, but there won't be many.  I didin't actually start keeping a log of the removals until later in the game, although I recorded as much as I could from my terminal buffer to make the list as complete as possible.
Obviously, if you're going to delete files, I strongly suggest that you keep a log AND make sure you have multiple types of backups (and backups to those backups).  I actually had to rely on my backups on multiple occasions while coming up with this list.  Again (as in "service not rendered"), we need our bootloaders unlocked so we can actually own the hardware that we have purchased.
    Launcher and keyboard:
    ======================
The launcher and keyboard that come with the Xperia Tab S ******.  On my system, I have replaced them both with the Nova Launcher and the Hacker's Keyboard, resulting in much (much, Much) better functionality and useability! And once those defaults were set, I removed the launcher and keyboard that came with the tablet as well.
    Boot Animation:
    ===============
As far as the boot animation is concerned, that's easily changed as well.  Nothing new here (Google it):
      # find -type f -name bootanimation.zip -exec ls {} \; -exec ls -la {} \;
      ./system/media/bootanimation.zip
      -rw-r--r-- root     root       242855 2013-05-19 02:44 bootanimation.zip
Something I need to figure out for my next steps:
    =================================================
Can I simply build a stock Android system, take stock apks from that build and put it on the Xperia (replace) without any issues?
Can I swap them out whole-sale, or are there any caveats in regards to how far can I go with that?
Any advice of how to further improve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

These are the issues as I see it:
    The Software:
Initially, when I complained about not being able to remove unwanted software, this is what I got:
     *  "You can disable it in the settings and you won't see the icons."
     *  "You can root the device and remove the unwanted software, but if you do, then we won't honor the warranty"
We'll look at the logic of these, but first, let's inject a simple analogy -- something I think most people will be able to relate to with ease.  Let's say that I buy a house, and I like the house a lot, but there is a toilet in the middle of the living room (I like social stuff that much ).  So after I purchase the house, I find out that I cannot remove the toilet in the living room because I don't have the "special tools" to do it.  In addition, this toilet has a bit of a valve problem, and it runs constantly.
The first supposed solution was "You can disable it in the settings and you won't see the icons."  That's like saying "throw a sheet over it."  In this case, disabling it doesn't even mean turning off the water.  There's still pipework being used, because cache supporting those apps still keep coming back.  So the toilet keeps running, and it gets to the point that it annoys the ****** out of me.  Throwing a sheet over the toilet does not fix the problem, nor does it remove the offense from my living room.  Not only is this NOT a solution, it's a horrible idea!
The second supposed solution was "You can root the device and remove the offending software, but if you do, then we won't honor the warranty."  I'm not big on warranties, and over the years I've discovered that most companies give me so much hassle and additional cost over getting something replaced or repaired, that I'm better off getting another product (usually from another vendor).  I personally wouldn't expect Sony to be any different in that regard.  That said, I don't care about warranties.  Furthermore I don't expect Sony to truly honor a warranty any more than I would expect a previous owner of my house to fix my leaking roof.
In my house, I don't want toilets in my living room.  I realize that there may be a lot of people out there who might find this to be of great use and value, but for me, it is offensive just knowing that it is there.  More offensive to me, is that I'm told I can not (or even "should not") remove it.  But even worse is, "throw a sheet over it."  To me, that's right up there with "We don't care so shut up."
So, left with no other choice, I rooted the tablet and took the (most obvious) toilets out of the places where I felt that they did not belong.  I don't expect help or tech support from Sony, either and if "throw a sheet over it" is any indication of the help that I might get, then trust me when I say that I don't WANT any help from them.
But that's not even the crux of my frustrations with this whole thing.  It's just a side-show.
    The Hardware:
Lets get something straight - When I buy a piece of property (whether it be a computer, a motor vehicle or a house), I expect to be able to enter that property in any way that suits me (and the way by which entry was intended is no exception by anyone's reasonable expectation).  Furthermore, if that piece of property has the ability to be locked, I fully expect to have the relevant keys, so that I might lock and unlock it on my own and at my own discretion.
With this tablet that I have bought, and therefore I own, I expect to be able to use the front door (the boot loader).  It is my property, I hold the bill of sale (the "deed"), and I cannot see how Sony has any moral, ethical, or legal standing to withhold those keys from me, thereby preventing me from entering my own property in a forthright manner.
So far, I've read the following excuses on this forum:
"We do it for your security"
As in "Sony is my savior?"  Hmm.  Does this mean that if a Sony customer has an unrooted and locked-by-Sony Xperia Tablet S that gets hacked, and their bank account goes dry and their identity is stolen as a result, that Sony will take the responsibility for it, reimburse that customer, and pay any costs to get that persons identity cleared?  Of course not.  The term "Responsibility" is a two-edged sword, and it cuts both ways.  As such, this excuse of taking responsibility of my security reads more like this: "For your security, we will control your house, but if you get compromised, you're stuck holding the bag, because we're not responsible."  If that doesn't defy logic, then I don't know what does!  This isn't an excuse for security.  Instead, it's a lame excuse for control, which provides no safety net.  I personally don't want someone who will not be responsible, taking on the role of being responsible for my security.  I would much rather be responsible for my own security, thank you very much.
CAVEAT:  I do understand that there are people out there who have no concept of security whatsoever and who do really dumb things, so the use of a snake-oil security solution can be beneficial (perhaps to the extent that it will "keep the honest people honest"), but my point is that it's still snake-oil, and it's benefits are far too limited for my taste.
So no, I don't want Sony's snake-oil security solution.  I want what is rightfully mine.  I want to hold the keys to the device that I have purchased.  I want the ability to lock and unlock my own front door at my own discretion, and if possible I want to change the key set so that once I take control of my own device, Sony can't unlock that door while I'm not home.  (there's an interesting idea, eh? ).
The other reason I've now heard is that "We do it to protect our proprietary software"
I would love to have a link or a scan of any document from Sony that actually states this.
If that is truly their position, then my response would then be, "Does this mean you do it so that I can't get rid of those toilets in my living room?  I won't want them in my living room, I don't want them in my bedroom, I don't want them in my kitchen, on my front porch, or in my den.  I don't want your software in my house, and being that this is MY house (as in "I hold the deed"), I'm ordering you not only to get the ****** out, but give me MY keys to MY front door!  This house is under renovation!
    On getting a refund:
If getting a refund is what Zero wanted, then congratulations to him.  If a refund is what you want, then good luck.  Do you think Sony will reimburse you for the time you've wasted with it as well?  Just a thought.
I'm personally not interested in a refund.  I simply want what is rightfully mine.
In fact, if this doesn't get resolved (or the tablet bricks in the process) maybe I'll take it skeet shooting and upload the video.  It will at least be entertaining, and the upside to it would be that it couldn't be refurbished and imposed on yet another vict...  er...  I mean customer.
    Final thoughts:
In the end, if Sony will not honor their sales by actually relinquishing the ownership of the hardware that they sell to the person holding the bill of sale, then at the very LEAST, they should start placing on their products warnings labels for future potential customers, enabling them to understand what they are actually buying, and what they are actually NOT buying -- Some type of "Brooklyn-Bridge" or "Bully" Buyer-beware warning should suffice, I think.  If they do not do this, then I can definitely foresee customers being forced to go before a judge in order to actually take ownership of the property that they have purchased -- and that CAN'T be good for business.  (Just sayin')
