Sort report

Hi,
I'm using the sort on a report with 5 columns. For each column I've specified
the sort sequence from 1 to 5. But the last one doesn't work properly. I can click and click and click and click,... :-) on the sort header, nothing changes!
I've allready tried different combinations of the sort sequence, don't fill in a sort
sequence, only specify a sequence for 1 field, ...
What can I do?
Greets,
Sofie

Hi
I just encountered the same problem , I tried everything and was nearly giving up finding a solution.
Then I found what was wrong, or it is probrably a bug in HTMLDB, In my Select-query i had two comment lines at the end of the query.
Select col1, col1
from tab1
where ..
and ...
-- xxxxx
-- xxxxx
when removing these comments the sort works!!!!
See if you have any comments at the end.

• Sorting report columns for PL/SQL report

I have created a report of type "Pl/Sql function body returning Sql query" in which I am generating the column names within the query. I would now like to make the first three of these columns sortable. But when I click on the "sort" box for the first three columns, all my column names suddenly switch to "Col 1", "Col 2" etc.
As you can see by the following snippet from the PL/SQL that generates the query, the column names are data driven, so I'm not in a position to declaratively rename each column. As it happens, the first three columns names are fixed, but all the subsequent column names are data driven.
Suggestions on how to make the first three columns sortable while preserving the generated column names of the remaining columns?
thanks
susan weber
declare
query varchar2(4000); -- query
begin
query := 'select first_name "First Name", last_name "Last Name", encounter_date "Encounter Date" ';
for c1 in (select distinct attr_src, attr_code, attr_text, sequence_number from finding_vt)
loop
query := query || ', (select val_text from finding_vt vt where vt.encounter_id = e.encounter_id and vt.attr_src = ''' || c1.attr_src || ''' and vt.attr_code = ''' || c1.attr_code || ''' and sequence_number = ' || c1.sequence_number || ') "' || substr(c1.attr_text,0,30) || '"';
END LOOP;
query := query || ' from patient pat, encounter e where pat.patient_id = e.patient_id';
return query;
end;

This turns out to be related to the choice of "use generic column names" v. "use query specific column names".
I had chosen "use generic column names" just to get past the initial creation page. I then debugged the query creation sql, but never changed that setting back to "use query specific column names". The fix is to choose "use query specific column names".

• Is it possible to sort report using parameters?

Hi,
I am building a report - which generates select query based on the parameters entered by the user.
Could you help me with how to sort output with the parameter chosen by the user himself? Thanks,

I will give you 2 answers since I am not sure exactly how your report runs.
Lets say your users choose a couple parameters to limit certain columns by in your where clause. In this case, you would want to just create a user parameter, and use that parameter in the where clause.
select col
from table
where job_id = :P_JOB_ID and
start_date between :P_START_DATE and :P_END_DATEPretty simple. Now here is how I would do it if those are optional parameters, and the user could enter a value, or could leave all blank.
select col
from table
where job_id = nvl(:P_JOB_ID, job_id) and
start_date between nvl(:P_START_DATE, start_date) and
nvl(:P_END_DATE, end_date)If its null, it will set the column equal to each other, and will return all the rows (good little trick).
The other case is if you need a different select/where clause entirely based on what the user sends in. For example, lets say you have 2 entirely different queries based on a certain parameter. Then you'd want to use lexical parameters and an after parameter trigger.
I think you are looking for the first scenario, so try that and post back if you are looking for something different

• Sorting report by column based on LOV problem...

All,
I have an issue with a report I have written.
I have an LOV based on a sql where which returns an ID as a return value and a CODE as a display value.
Lets say the LOV returns the following results:
Return, Display
1, V
2, A
3, T
When I click on the item column heading to sort the report based on that column the records are in the order 1, 2, 3 and not A, T, V.
So it looks like it is sorting the results based on the return value and not the display value.
Is this a feature of displaying items based on LOVs in reports and then sorting on them or am I missing something.
Hopefully, someone can help me out here as it is driving me mad.
Regards
ChrisR

Chris,
This didn't change in 3.1 and that is definitely not a bug but a feature. The solution I
propose is a simple workaround for the special cases of LOV display columns or columns
where you have an image but still want to do sorting.

• Any ideas on how to re-sort report data on client side

Hi,
Could anybody provide any ideas on what technologies I should
apply to enable user to re-sort the data of a report on client
side browser.
Thanks
JC

Hi,
if you create a frameset, this could have a javascript array
containing your result set.
Then when the frameset is loaded it could populate its own
single frame with the contents of the array (the initially
sorted rows of the report).
Now by some trigger (e.g. clicking on the heading) you could
tell the javascript in the frameset to resort the data array,
ordering by the column clicked on. Then send a call to the
function that populates the frame with the contents of the array.
This should do what you want, but it is not really a Portal
solution as the report would have to be a procedure in PL/SQL
rather than a 'proper' Portal report.
If I get time I will create an example using the SCOTT.EMP table.

• Ascending & Descending images when sorting report columns...

Hi guys,
Have you ever tried changing sorting images to custom ones? I've tried with no result..replacing theme images doesn't work..Have no idea what to do..Please help.
With regards,
PsmakR

In this example:
http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:1
Report on Departments
is using a different image than standard and it works. It will pull the images from the /i/ directory so I don't think you can specify #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# there. However, you can specify a subdirectory within /i/ like this:
/menu/rup_plus_dgray_16x16.gif
/menu/rup_minus_dgray_16x16.gif
and it will work.

• Sorting drill down report

Mr. Kubicek's "Report on Report" is excellent if anyone is looking for a drill down report, but if Denes or someone could help me with one last piece, I would be indebted.
I have aggregated values for the columns I wanted to total for each employee in Report 1: "Total # of Sales" and "Total $ Sales". These totals become links for the drill down in Report 2. Clicking on the aggregate total of "Total $ Sales" in Report 1 will show all related individual sales records for that employee in Report 2.
My problem is in sorting Report 1 by the aggregate columns, "Total # of Employees" and "Total $ Sales". The columns do not sort correctly from high to low etc. I have copied Denes report code exactly. What do I add or change to sort these two aggregate columns from high to low? Thank you all.
Mike

Thanks so much, Dimitri. I don't have the link, but here is my query (does this give you enough to diagnose?). The columns etc differ from my original post (I was trying to keep it simple in my example...).
SELECT "l_t_num","l_truck_name",
''
|| '<a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:113:&SESSION.::NO::'
|| 'P113_TRUCKNO,P113_TRUCKNO_COUNT,P113_TRUCKNO_PAID:'
|| l_t_num"
|| ','
|| "l_t_num"
|| ','
|| NULL
|| '">'
|| COUNT (*)
|| '' "l_file_number",
''
|| '<a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:113:&SESSION.::NO::'
|| 'P113_TRUCKNO,P113_TRUCKNO_COUNT,P113_TRUCKNO_PAID:'
|| "l_t_num"
|| ','
|| NULL
|| ','
|| "l_t_num"
|| '">'
|| TO_CHAR (SUM ("l_due_to_truck"), 'FML999G999G999G999G990')
|| '' sum_truck_cost
FROM "LOADS_HISTORY_NC"
where instr(':' || :P113_YEAR || ':',SUBSTR("l_file_number",3,2)) > 0
AND instr(':' || :P113_MONTH || ':', SUBSTR("l_file_number",5,2)) > 0
GROUP BY "l_t_num", "l_truck_name"
The two results columns are 'sum_truck_cost' and a count of "l_file_number" for each carrier ("l_truck_name"). These two columns in my report are aggregate values and are links. Clicking on either the 'sum_truck_cost' value or count value opens a second report with the individual records. I have enabled the sorting option for these columns in Report Attributes, but manually sorting the columns does not put the records in correct asc or desc order based on either total.
This is almost exactly as Denes has on his site, so he has a working example. I have only inserted my own columns into his code etc. Thank you so much Dimitri!!

• Bug - Sorting Order in SQL Reports not Working?

Today i defined a SQL Report in APEX and choose 3 columns for sorting the report.
The order is like that:
1. Category
2. List Price
3. Product Name
When calling the SQL Report in a new session i expected to get a sorted report like defined.
I got only the report like the last person who edited this report.
It looks like that the Sort Sequence columns is not usable in SQL Reports.
Here is an example based on the problems which i described:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=40082
below the SQL Report a screenshot is shown, where the Report Attributes (and the sort sequence) is displayed.

OliverL
Did you reset the pagination of the report you made the changes to?
Normal behaviour is that APEX remembers per user per report the last sorting that was used.
Including when a user clicked a column header to change the order from the default one.
The sort preference are stored in preferences with a name like FSPapp_id_Ppage_id_Rinternal region_id_SORT.

Yes umesh from external 99% of your stock from mvt 101, 501 is very rare case & 561 is not from external source it is initial stock updation which will be done only once when you are going live & later 561 mvt will be normally blocked for use.
You can also sort in MB5B more than one movement type click on multiple selection (that is on yellow arrow icon) & in single value tab enter mvt 101 below that 501.
This will give you report for mvt types 101 & 501 in this way you can also sort reports for more than one mvt type.

As it is part of our production requirement. I really appreciate your help, If its sent modifying the code required.
Modification required in the report.
To allow the sales representatives to see billed shipments and open orders for the current month.
1) Selection Screen Changes:

u2022     Add another selection box
[ ] Open Orders and Shipments with the current month
2) For the new selection box, subtotal sales quantity and delivery quantity.
If delivered, make the sales quantity zero in the subtotal
Current report displays, in Selection Screen
Sales org:
Person Name:
Material:
Plant:
Sales Office:
Ship to Name:
Ship to Number:

• Changing sort order changes column width

I turned on column sorting (Report Attributes -> Sort checkbox) for a particular column. Now when I sort descending on that column, it seems to disable word-wrap and the width of the column increases dramatically.
Does anyone know why this happens or how to prevent it?

The width of the column would be the width of the widest bit of text within the column.
You can fix the width of a column by entering the following into the HTML Expression for the column definition:
<table><col style="width:100px;"><tr><td>#COLUMN_NAME#</td></tr></table>

• DECODE sorts incorrectly on different types

Hi...I have a problem when I am attempting to create a sorted report based on a parameter. I want to be able to sort based on the name, or date...but decode doesnt like it apparently
This first query selects all the dates and sorts them based on the string
select "SCHEDULED_COMPLETE_DATE" from all_tasks
order by decode('Scheduled Complete Date', 'Document Name', "DOCUMENT_NAME", 'Author',"RESOURCE_NAME", 'Scheduled Complete Date', "SCHEDULED_COMPLETE_DATE")
01-APR-07
01-AUG-07
01-FEB-07
01-JUL-07
This second one sorts all the dates correctly
select "SCHEDULED_COMPLETE_DATE" from all_tasks
order by decode('Scheduled Complete Date', 'Scheduled Complete Date', "SCHEDULED_COMPLETE_DATE", 'Document Name', "DOCUMENT_NAME", 'Author',"RESOURCE_NAME")
07-DEC-06
15-DEC-06
18-DEC-06
29-DEC-06
04-JAN-07
The problem is the decode. If the first choice in the decode is the date, it formats it correctly. If it is a string, it doesnt. It looks at the date as a string.
Thing is...if I put the date one first, and the string ones after...they fail! its looking for a date.
Can decode only use one type? Is there a way around this?
Thanks
-Jason

you can use somthing like this.
I just used temp table I had. You can use your table and column.
SQL> select to_char(date1,'DD-MON-YYYY') from temp2
2 order by decode(date1,date2,sysdate,date1)
3 ;
TO_CHAR(DATE1,'DD-MON-YYYY')
05-DEC-2006
05-DEC-2006
06-DEC-2006
10-DEC-2006
12-DEC-2006

• Column sort gives "failed to parse SQL query"

Hi folks,
I have a page with a chart and 5 reports. All report columns are sortable.
When I first navigate to the page from a menu, the chart and all reports display correctly. Given certain query criteria, reports 2 and 4 correctly return no data, and show my polite 'no data found' message.
If I sort report 1 or 3 or 5 by clicking a column heading, the chart and reports 1, 3 and 5 display correctly, but in report regions 2 and 4 I then get
failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key valueThese errors can be cleared by navigating to the page again from a menu.
What's wrong? How can I fix it?
I'm at 1.6.0.00.87, db 10.1.0.3.0.
All ideas gratefully received.
Thanks
John D

OK, I now have a workspace.
I recreated the problem using page 1 of the Sample Application (app 15027).
1 - Copy region "My Top Orders" to "My Top Orders 2" on page 1 (same display point, column 2).
2 - Edit the SQL of "My Top Orders 2" to remove the ORDER BY clause.
3 - Edit the columns of "My Top Orders 2" to make all columns other than ORDER_ID sortable.
4 - Copy region "My Top Orders 2" to "My Top Orders 3" on page 1 (same display point, column 2)..
5 - Run page 1
6 - Click a column heading on "My Top Orders 2" and I got "failed to parse..." on "My Top Orders 3".
BUT it's intermittent. Navigate away from page 1 then return, and you may find the error doesn't recur.
So, what's up Doc?
Many thanks,
John
