Sorting Clips in Thumbnail View ????????

I think on this one I MUUUUUST be missing the obvious...
I cannot find any way to sort my clips once I enter thumbnail/icon view ???
I can sort in list view but not in icon view ????

They could just hit "Storyboard" and that would re-arrange the icons back to the way the user had 'em...
Seems to me as if this whole forum is crowded by folks who like to waste their time.
I have been using PPRO since a long time and while all the idiots complained about FCPx (I did too initially) I bought it and got to know it.
What I used to consider iMovie Pro -- is the most advanced and intuitive software that has face a computer the past decade.
Some of you may laugh. But that is because you have not gotten to know it.
I am very fast in editing and use nothign but short keys. Normallly in PPRO I would spend a day sorting and naming clips etc... Then Cut and Master.
2-3 days for a medium sized project. Those medium sized projects TODAY in FCPx I in HALF A DAY.... Yeah, you read it right... 1/2 a day.
Sorting and tagging more or less becomes void in FCPx - you JUST DONT WORK LIKE THAT NO MORE... Too old and too slow.
In a medium session I am facing about 100GB of H.264 material making up between 100 & 400 clips. I sort, group and arr. those in a matter of minutes.
Keyworking and metataggin is so advanced I cannot even begin to describe it...
Then comes along... motion... In motion you can SAVE your workflow as a FCPx plug-in... and load that up in FCPx.. That would be like having After Effects inside of PPRO.
I dont even leave FCPx when color grading...
I would have NEVER thought this app to be so advanced after spending a few days with it.. I hated it.. But ONLY because I was USED to working the OLD way..
Or should I say... The OLD Randy Ubilos (Premiere Pro Creator) way.... Well.  PPRO reflects Randy's young, green and naive days. FCPx reflects Randy's MATURE days.
Premiere Pro is surrounded by programmers thinking "What would Randy do here" instead of hiring someone who had vision.
Premiere Pro is great old software that cant even sort 20 Icons according to the wish of a user... By those standards I am surprised it even plays back a movie...
Oh... I forgot.. It doesn't - at least 50% of the time when the Program Monitor just goes black ;-)))
Adobe, ALL it takes is a copy of FCPx -- Check it out and copy the good stuff.
PS --- My mom - who is 75 years still thinks it is faster to write me a letter and send it via post. No doubt, for her it seems that way.
THAT does NOT delimit the FACT that an email reaches australia a litte faster than the US post.
Embrace the future - even though you dont grasp it at first..Get to know IT !!!!

  • How to sort clips in icon view mode in Premiere

I am trying to sort clips alphabetically or by metadata in the icon view mode. When I switch from list view to icon view, premiere seems to arrange the clips randomly, not even alphabetically, which is frustrating because I can't even see the entire clip name. I love icon view mode, and it's nice to be able to drag the clips around, but I would like even more to be able to sort them.

You can't sort in Icon view as their are no 'columns' to sort by.  All you can do is move then around manually.

  • Sort order switches when changing from List to Thumbnail View

I can't seem to get the Thumbnail view to "lock" to the same sort order as the list view.  I arrange by file name (or ingest date, or reverse media duration, or any of the other sortable metadata fields) in list view, but then when I click to the thumbnail view, the order seems to arbitrariliy change to some sort of preset.  What's worse, it appears to be changing to something that's in a jumbled order.
This isn't a big deal if I only have 10 clips.  If I have 100, or 1,000 clips though, they have to be in a sortable order for the thumbnail view to be of any use.
    Thanks,
    Eli

    Hi,
Thanks for your post. Our current design doesn't support keeping order between list view and icon view. It would be good if you can drop that as a feature request / bug into the the forum.

  • In Photoshop Express, cannot sort images in album by filename in thumbnail view (for slideshow)l.

In Photoshop Express, I want images to appear sorted by filename.  In the "view as a table" it sorts fine.  When I revert to the thumbnail view, the arrangement is random.  The dropdown "show" list does not offer an option for showing by filename.  If I select the"custom" option, it means I would need to sort 300 images by filename MANUALLY (!!!), a job that a computer does in milliseconds.  Anyone with a solution?  Thanks.

fwiw, with my images in the 'Folder Location' view the photos are in order by their Windows filename. That is the same order as the hardcopy album the photos came from. So I then created a PSE Album. I selected all my photos and moved them into that album. The order of the pictures was retained in the Album. That worked out great. I wanted my PSE images to be in the same order. I thought I would do it with tags. But creating an album seems to work just fine.

  • Can't see clip preview in clip or timeline view

This may be a simple problem, but I am brand new to this. I am making a movie out of photos, and the process seems simple. I drag a photo from my iphoto library (from the photos pane) into the clip view (or timeline). The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black. So I can't really easily edit the clips because I have no idea which one is which (besides looking at the filename!). The images I am importing are jpegs and like I said it has no problem playing the movie correctly I just see what I am working with in the clip view. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum!
The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the
clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black.
    Very strange.
To make sure we understand what you see... The imported image plays okay on the timeline after it's imported, but its thumbnail in the timeline is black. Instead of the thumbnail showing the imported image, the thumbnail is black. Correct?
Does the imported clip play black too?
The only thing I can think of that makes a clip play black is when the Ken Burns Effect is set to pan above/below the image or left/right of the image. Then, instead of importing the image, Ken Burns imports the black border along one side of the image.
To unset the pan so Ken Burns is centered over the image, do this:
    1. Click on any image in the iPhoto library.
    2. Turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox.
    3. Click in the "Start" half of the Start/End thingy.
    4. Drag the zoom slider (the slider with the small/large face profile) a bit to the right, then all the way to the left.
    5. Click on the "End" half of the thingy and repeat #4.
Now the import is centered. If the pan was causing the problem, that should fix it.

  • Thumbnail view crashing FCP -- Kona3 the problem?

For larger projects, running bins in thumbnail view crashes FCP.
Most of the time, I'm editing 6 to 8 min. stories for a news magazine format show. We shoot on Sony XDCAM, so usually 2 or 3 disks per project (roughly 44 mins of HD viddy per disk, with anywhere from 20 to 120 individual clips on the disk).
However, for our documentaries (either 26 mins or 56mins) we shoot between 30 to 45 disks full of content. When importing the disks into FCP7, we use a bin per disc, translating into an average of 80 clips per bin. Whenever a project is this big, I can only open 3 or so bins in thumbnail view. After that, the system crashes. Even if I only keep one bin open at a time, by that fourth bin, the system crashes.
We are using a KONA3 card configuration.
    Anyone else seen this?

    PROBLEM IDENTIFIED (NOT SOLVED):
I've had this problem with thumbnail images crashing FCP after opening bins for over a year now and when going back using footage from old projects it happens more frequently. I can open 2-4 bins before it will crash FCP completely.
    TROUBLESHOOTING IN THE PAST:
    - Dumped Prefs
    - Re-installed FCP
    - Formatted & Re-installed EVERYTHING (OSX included)
    - Increased thumbnail cache size
    - Created new projects & bins, etc.
    CONCLUSION:
None of the above troubleshooting strategies worked. Increasing the thumbnail cache size may appear to work a little but problem persists with little improvement.
    HOW I IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM:
Only recently have I been working with other formats aside from XDCAM. I've recently incorporated more ProRes files into my most recent project of T2i footage from the Canon DSLR camera. If I open a bin and display thumbnails of the ProRes video clips everything works without a problem. Loading thumbnail bins with the raw .mp4 files also works fine. Only loading XDCAM files will cause FCP to crash. The problem has nothing to do with the Kona card. If you read the posts carefully here and elsewhere you will see the common denominator is the XDCAM encoded video files being displayed as thumbnail icons.
I am using XDCAM EX files at 1080p 30fps. To further isolate this problem as something having to do with the XDCAM files, another user posted on another thread:
*"I am having similar issues with two separate projects. The only commonality between them is XDCam.*
*To possibly isolate it I reinstalled FCP on one system, and installed latest Blackmagic driver on the the same. Both systems are up to date visa vi OS, FCP, and QT.*
*Both still crash with the same regularity as described here."*
Apple, this problem has persisted for more than two years and is a major problem. Just search the forums including this one. Any further upgrades of Final Cut Studio or OS X are worthless until this problem is fixed. A brand new body and interior won't fix a car with a broken engine. Please help!! Please solve this issue with the XDCAM footage in FCP!
If anyone has any solutions or work arounds please notify me. I need it!

  • How do I sort clips in the Project panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?

Two questions: How do I sort clip thumbnails in the Project Panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?
How do I "select" a group of 25 consecutive clips on the time line to form a group without having to click on each individual clip one at a time. The method in the Help menu about "alt" click does nothing for me.

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.
If I missed your intent and need, let me know where I went wrong.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Thumbnail view of  tabs in JTabbedPane

    Hi all,
I am doing a desktop app . In my app i am using JTabbedPane . In order to view the contents of all tabs in one shot,i need to bring the JPanel in each tab into a single frame, that contains a scrollbar.i.e,something like a thumbnail view of all the tabs.Is it possible to do so? Since i have several components like button, textbox, images, etc in each tab,and have set the layout property of the panel to null,i cannot reduce the size of the panel to thumbnail size.I have set layout property of jpanel in each tab to null, because i have enabled dragging of objects like buttons, textarea, images, etc. Can anyone help me to sort out this problem.
    Thanks in advance

  • View thumbnail view alphabetically?

Is there a way to sort and view thumbnail view alphabetically

    What's your Elements version ?
If it's PSE11, you are out of luck. Only sorting by date is enabled.
In former versions, the 'folder view' instead of the standard 'thumbnail' view is in alphabetical order.

  • No thumbnail view

Usually I do not use yhe import pane for my media (XDCAMEX), just drag and drop the folder from the card. I wanted to experiment with this pane. The card showed up and I found my clips in the Clip folder. But I have only the option to view my clips in list view and no thumbnail alternetive. Is it not supposed to be there or has this something to do with my media ?

It depends on the camera, apparently.
For some cameras, you'll see these buttons
and you can switch views. Not so for others.

  • Organizer Thumbnail view

Each time I switch between the Single Photo View to the Thumbnail view I have to reposition the slider to get the thumbnails to show the file name, etc.  Is there an option or preference setting that will keep the slider where I put it so when Organizer opens, it opens with the thumbnails the size I want?
Its really annoying to have to keep resetting the silder.
Second question - is there an option to show the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen (Single Photo View) in a "filmstrip" like configuration similar to what Lightroom does so I don't have to keep switching from Single View to Thumbnail view?
I'm really new to Elements and maybe I've just missed an option setting - or it seems like Lightroom's workspace is better?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You could try this as a sort of filmstrip:-
    1. Select the images you want to review
    2. Use F11 to switch to full screen mode (Cmd & F11 for MAC)
    3. Use Ctrl & F to toggle the image thumbnails appearing on the right hand side of the screen in a strip
    4. Use Esc key when finished
    Hope that helps

  • How do I move page order in Thumbnails view in the new pages? (which is driving me nuts btw)

I'm really struggling with the new pages, having used the old version so much I just can't get the hang of this one - so much has changed:( Really wish I hadn't bothered but now have too many documents created in it that I can't open on old version as it doesn't let you (mump mump - well I am scottish).
So in the old version I used thumbnail view to move about the order of the pages (really useful when making up artwork for magazines etc). Anyone know how to do it on the new version?
Also can't seem to view document in '2 up' - 2 pages side by side (also very handy for magazines etc).
Also the tables facility doesn't let you move borders of individual cells - you can only move the whole column - I can't even select them.
I could go on but will go before I start the 'pages shake'.

    Hilary,
Scottish or not, your best option is to retreat to the last good version of the app, Pages '09.
    Cut your losses.
    Jerry

  • Why can I no longer copy and paste a page in the thumbnails view?

We used to be able to copy and paste, even edit the order of the pages in thumbnail view. Why has ALL of this functionality been removed?! Or is there some special way to do it now that isn't as intuitive?

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages 5 has had 90+ features removed and a load of bugs added.
Any sensible user will just say "Pass!"

  • New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before?

New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before? You could drag and drop sections within your document the same way you could drag and drop pages in Preview's PDF documents. So how do you re-arrnage your document now?
    ALSO
You used to be able to duplicate/copy a section/page by draging it with OPTION-LEFT-CLICK to a space below or above in the thumbnial window. The same way it works in PREVIEW in a PDF document. Did I miss something or is this also a bug?!
These were extremely helpful to me and I hope many others. Can anyone help!?
    Thanks :-)

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.
