Sorting Columns in JTable Using Different Comparators

Is there any way to sort each column in a JTable using different comparators?

you'll have to write your own tableSorter

  • Different number of rows for different columns in JTable

    hi
I need to create a JTable with different number of rows for different columns...
Also the rowheight should be different in each column...
say there is a JTable with 2 columns... Col1 having 5 rows and column 2 having 2 rows...
The rowHeight in Col2 should be an integer multiple of Rowheight in Col1
how do I do this ??
can anybody send me some sample code ?????
    thanx in advance

How about nesting JTables with 1 row and many columns in a JTable with 1 column and many rows.
Or you could leave the extra columns null/blank.
You could use a GridBagLayout and put a panel in each group of cells and not use JTable at all.
It would help if you were more specific about how you wanted it to appear and behave.

  • How to set different renderers to different cells in same column of JTable?

    Hello Friends,
    I need your help again...
Does any body knows, how to set different renderer's for different cells of same column in JTable..??
    For ex.
    Col1 Col2 Col3 Col4
    A       A       A      A
    A       A       A      B
    A       A       A      C
    A       A      A       D
Where A B C D would be different Renderers.  I want set exactly same ,,, ie. one column with different renderer at different cell positions..
Right now i m setting renderer using statement bellow :
table.getColumnModel().getColumn(int).setCellRenderer(rederer_Instance);But with this, effect in the last renderer is applicable whole column....
Can any body help me out ?????????

  • JTable sorting in 1.5 using AbstractTableModel

    Hi,
I have a JTable with 7 columns, that uses AbstractTableModel. The Jtable is updated with contents from xml file. I have heard 1.6 provides classes that makes sorting easier, but I need to implement this using 1.5. Could any one provide a sample code for this requirement.
    Regards,

Here is a link to the old 1.5 Swing tutorial. The section on How to Use Tables, includes code for the old way to sort columns in a table.

  • Sorting JTable using keyboard

    Hi all,
Is it possible to sort JTable using keyboard? There is a key to get the focus to a column header by clicking the key F8. I don't find any key to sort the table based on the column which is in focus. Is there any solution for this?
    Thanks,
    Ganesh

You miss the point of that link, there is no need to write any custom code.
I have already tried to implement Keyboard listener of JTableHeader which must be similar to using Key Bindings. You should NOT use a KeyListener, Swing was designed to use KeyBindings
The problem I am facing is that I am unable to find the column which got the key strokeYou don't have to write any code, the functionality you want is already supported with a Key Binding. Just use the "space" key.
If you don't like the space key, then you can assign the Action to any other KeyStroke. The link shows you how to do that in 3-4 lines of code.

  • How can I get (using API) the current sort column for some report

    hello,
How can I get (using API) the current sort column for some report ? For example something like "fsp_sort_1_desc" - if the user sorts by the first column ?
I cannot use the :REQUEST for this, sometimes the current sort column is not in the :REQUEST, but it is still active.
I thought it was posssible by using
    APEX_UTIL.GET_PREFERENCE (
    p_preference IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
    p_user IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT V('USER'))
    RETURN VARCHAR2;
function, but I don't really know which preference should I pass as parameter.
looking in WWV_FLOW_PREFERENCES$, i saw preferences_names like FSP4000_P527_R6281510839654570_SORT , I'm not sure how this name is formed.
I'm using generic columns for that complex report (which has a flexible number of columns shown), and the idea is that sometimes I have to overwrite that sort column, in case the user chose the version of the report with fewer columns than the previous one.
Can I get (using API) a list of all preferences set for some user ?
    Thank you,

    seems that it is FSP<app_number>P<pagenumber>R<regionnumber>_SORT.
is there anyplace where I can get these kind of things documented ?
    Thank you.

  • Sorting within sorted columns?

Is it possible to sort columns by say artist & say track names all at one time? If so how is this done?
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, it is.
Use the Songs view, and turn on the Column Browser. Then select the artist you're interested in and finally click on the Name column so the arrow points upwards - as shown below:
    <picture>
While the artist is highlighted, the additional (greyed out) selection of "All Genres" and "All Albums" ensures that every song by The Beach Boys is shown, even if they are from different genres.
This doesn't work for artists who only appear on compilation albums though. There is a way to see them, but it's a bit more involved.
To do this, use the Songs view, and turn on the Column Browser. (Oddly, the shortcut for the Column Browser - CTRL+SHIFT+B - isnt working in iTunes 11.1.3.8, so click on the View/Column Browser/Show Column Broswer if you have the same problem. CTRL+B will turn on the menu bar at the top (with View on it).

  • 00904 error when sorting columns that require double quotes

We have used an ETL tool to import an XML file into Oracle 10g. The column names are mixed case and unfortunately have to remain mixed case because we have a "column" and a "Column" name with different info in them. So when we migrate it in, the field names have be enclosed in double quotes in all SQL operations. The problem in SQL Developer 1.5.1 (Win XP SP2, Oracle 10G) though is that if I try to sort on a column by double clicking the column header, we get an ORA-00904 error COLUMN does not exist. So it looks like it is trying to do an ORDER BY without putting the column name in double quotes. Has anybody else had issues with this and is there a fix for it?

  • Makignone column in jtable NOT sortable

    hi
i am using a TAbleSorter that sun provides to sort my table
    JTable importsTable=new JTable();
    MyTableModel model = new MyTableModel(handler.getImportableObjects());
    MyTableSorter sorter = new MyTableSorter(model, 0);
    sorter.setTableHeader(importsTable.getTableHeader());
    importsTable.setModel(sorter);
MyTableModel is an AbstractTableModel that does soem custom stuff for me, nothign major.
MyTableSorter is a table sorter that overrides isCellEditable. i am doing this so that i can make the one column iwnat non-sortable not editable. it is however nto working. help?
    thank you

Well.. u r using an abstractTableModel.. so the cells r anyways not editable.. U ve made all the columns except the first one editable by overriding the isCellEditable method.. It s not working?? There must be some other prob.. Post some more relevant part of the code wit tags

  • Changing Sort column

I have a report that has different groups and is sorted by a particular column.
I would like to be able to create an additional layout (in the trailer section) that executes the same query (in fact if it just uses the same data) but ordered by different column.
    How can this be done?
I realise the lexical parameters could be used - how to do this via a trigger?
Is there another way.simplier that would not involve rerunning the same basic query.
The sort columns are in the detail and not group by columns.
Thanks in advance for any help and direction

I don't think that you can do this just by using one query. I mean same data twice but with different orders.
In that case you need another query and second report layout within same report. You already know, what is the sort order for query one and query two, so in that case you don't need lexical parameters (if you go by this way).
Another option is, run this report twice from JSP by passing sort column name to lexical parameter. It will create two PDFs but your report will have only one query.
Third and best option is, on JSP ask user on which column he/she wants to sort and pass this column to lexical parameter in report.
In your case, you don't need to set value for lexical parameter in form triggers. You can pass directly to lexical parameter from JSP.
May be someone else can give better solution.

  • Senarious for using different internal table types

please give scenarios for  using different internal table types?

    Refer to the following.
    Internal table types
This section describes how to define internal tables locally in a program. You can also define internal tables globally as data types in the ABAP Dictionary.
Like all local data types in programs , you define internal tables using the TYPES statement. If you do not refer to an existing table type using the TYPE or LIKE addition, you can use the TYPES statement to construct a new local internal table in your program.
    TYPES <t> TYPE|LIKE <tabkind> OF <linetype> [WITH <key>]
    [INITIAL SIZE <n>].
After TYPE or LIKE, there is no reference to an existing data type. Instead, the type constructor occurs:
    <tabkind> OF <linetype> [WITH <key>]
The type constructor defines the table type <tabkind>, the line type <linetype>, and the key <key> of the internal table <t>.
You can, if you wish, allocate an initial amount of memory to the internal table using the INITIAL SIZE addition.
    Table type
You can specify the table type <tabkind> as follows:
    Generic table types
    INDEX TABLE
For creating a generic table type with index access.
    ANY TABLE
For creating a fully-generic table type.
Data types defined using generic types can currently only be used for field symbols and for interface parameters in procedures . The generic type INDEX TABLE includes standard tables and sorted tables. These are the two table types for which index access is allowed. You cannot pass hashed tables to field symbols or interface parameters defined in this way. The generic type ANY TABLE can represent any table. You can pass tables of all three types to field symbols and interface parameters defined in this way. However, these field symbols and parameters will then only allow operations that are possible for all tables, that is, index operations are not allowed.
    Fully-Specified Table Types
    STANDARD TABLE or TABLE
    For creating standard tables.
    SORTED TABLE
    For creating sorted tables.
    HASHED TABLE
    For creating hashed tables.
Fully-specified table types determine how the system will access the entries in the table in key operations. It uses a linear search for standard tables, a binary search for sorted tables, and a search using a hash algorithm for hashed tables.
    Line type
For the line type <linetype>, you can specify:
Any data type if you are using the TYPE addition. This can be a predefined ABAP type, a local type in the program, or a data type from the ABAP Dictionary. If you specify any of the generic elementary types C, N, P, or X, any attributes that you fail to specify (field length, number of decimal places) are automatically filled with the default values. You cannot specify any other generic types.
Any data object recognized within the program at that point if you are using the LIKE addition. The line type adopts the fully-specified data type of the data object to which you refer. Except for within classes, you can still use the LIKE addition to refer to database tables and structures in the ABAP Dictionary (for compatibility reasons).
All of the lines in the internal table have the fully-specified technical attributes of the specified data type.
    Key
You can specify the key <key> of an internal table as follows:
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] KEY <col1> ... <col n>
In tables with a structured line type, all of the components <coli> belong to the key as long as they are not internal tables or references, and do not contain internal tables or references. Key fields can be nested structures. The substructures are expanded component by component when you access the table using the key. The system follows the sequence of the key fields.
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] KEY TABLE LINE
If a table has an elementary line type (C, D, F, I, N, P, T, X), you can define the entire line as the key. If you try this for a table whose line type is itself a table, a syntax error occurs. If a table has a structured line type, it is possible to specify the entire line as the key. However, you should remember that this is often not suitable.
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] DEFAULT KEY
This declares the fields of the default key as the key fields. If the table has a structured line type, the default key contains all non-numeric columns of the internal table that are not and do not contain references or internal tables. If the table has an elementary line type, the default key is the entire line. The default key of an internal table whose line type is an internal table, the default key is empty.
Specifying a key is optional. If you do not specify a key, the system defines a table type with an arbitrary key. You can only use this to define the types of field symbols and the interface parameters of procedures . For exceptions, refer to Special Features of Standard Tables.
The optional additions UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE determine whether the key is to be unique or non-unique, that is, whether the table can accept duplicate entries. If you do not specify UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE for the key, the table type is generic in this respect. As such, it can only be used for specifying types. When you specify the table type simultaneously, you must note the following restrictions:
You cannot use the UNIQUE addition for standard tables. The system always generates the NON-UNIQUE addition automatically.
You must always specify the UNIQUE option when you create a hashed table.
    Initial Memory Requirement
You can specify the initial amount of main memory assigned to an internal table object when you define the data type using the following addition:
    INITIAL SIZE <n>
This size does not belong to the data type of the internal table, and does not affect the type check. You can use the above addition to reserve memory space for <n> table lines when you declare the table object.
When this initial area is full, the system makes twice as much extra space available up to a limit of 8KB. Further memory areas of 12KB each are then allocated.
You can usually leave it to the system to work out the initial memory requirement. The first time you fill the table, little memory is used. The space occupied, depending on the line width, is 16 <= <n> <= 100.
It only makes sense to specify a concrete value of <n> if you can specify a precise number of table entries when you create the table and need to allocate exactly that amount of memory (exception: Appending table lines to ranked lists). This can be particularly important for deep-structured internal tables where the inner table only has a few entries (less than 5, for example).
To avoid excessive requests for memory, large values of <n> are treated as follows: The largest possible value of <n> is 8KB divided by the length of the line. If you specify a larger value of <n>, the system calculates a new value so that n times the line width is around 12KB.
    Examples
    TYPES: BEGIN OF LINE,
    COLUMN1 TYPE I,
    COLUMN2 TYPE I,
    COLUMN3 TYPE I,
    END OF LINE.
TYPES ITAB TYPE SORTED TABLE OF LINE WITH UNIQUE KEY COLUMN1.
The program defines a table type ITAB. It is a sorted table, with line type of the structure LINE and a unique key of the component COLUMN1.
TYPES VECTOR TYPE HASHED TABLE OF I WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE LINE.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF LINE,
    COLUMN1 TYPE I,
    COLUMN2 TYPE I,
    COLUMN3 TYPE I,
    END OF LINE.
TYPES ITAB TYPE SORTED TABLE OF LINE WITH UNIQUE KEY COLUMN1.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF DEEPLINE,
    FIELD TYPE C,
    TABLE1 TYPE VECTOR,
    TABLE2 TYPE ITAB,
    END OF DEEPLINE.
TYPES DEEPTABLE TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF DEEPLINE
    WITH DEFAULT KEY.
The program defines a table type VECTOR with type hashed table, the elementary line type I and a unique key of the entire table line. The second table type is the same as in the previous example. The structure DEEPLINE contains the internal table as a component. The table type DEEPTABLE has the line type DEEPLINE. Therefore, the elements of this internal table are themselves internal tables. The key is the default key - in this case the column FIELD. The key is non-unique, since the table is a standard table.

  • Can we use different Databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in one report?

    Post Author: venki5star
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi there.
Can we use different databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in a same report?
    If possible how?
    Another question,
Can we change the Provider Name at runtime of the given report. If so the above question is useless...
    Thanks in Advance.

I tried this using Oracle Provider for OLEDB (the one that supplied by Oracle Client) and Crystal Reports 9. you can drag the column into designer but the image does not appear in preview.
I guess it's because CR does not recognized it as image, and there are no information that the blob data is an image at all.

  • Creating a new Column for my list Versus adding it from existing site columns, when to use each approach

I have created a new issue tracking list inside SharePoint 2013 team site. And it comes with predefined columns, some of them are useful while the other are not . Can anyone help me in figuring out the following:-
The list come with a field named “Assigned To”, while in my case I want a column named “Approver”. So what is preferred , to re-name the “Assumed to ”column to “Approver”, or create new field name “Approver”.?.
If I rename an existing column, could this be overridden in any future updates for my SharePoint server?
Now we want to add a column named “Office location”.so I need to create a new field for this. But seems there are two ways to do so either to add a new Site Column at the site level and then assign it to the list as follow :-
, or to directly adding a column to the list, even if it is not available in the site columns , as follow:-
So what are the differences between the two approaches ? .if I am not wrong defining a site column will allow me to re-use it in another list , but defining the column at the list level, will allow me to add a column even if it is already defined as site
    column.
So can anyone advice on my three questions please? Thanks

    1) 'Assigned to' has a different meaning then 'Approver' , it will be better if you create a new field for 'Approver'. Assigned to is a Site Column which has managed property for search, so it will be confusing type of data it will return from search in
    future.
    2) Any rename of fields should not / and will not get modified in SharePoint updates. So, you can rename is without any issue since the internal name will remain the same. But its always better to create your own custom column for business use.
    3) Creating a site column or not depends upon your need, If you create a Site Column - in whole site collection you will be able to add this field in any list - It will be crawled, SharePoint will automatically provide managed property for site column and
you will be able to get this value via search. These things will not be present in list column, you will need to do specific settings in case its required.
If these things are needed then you can go for Site Column, usually its good to create a Site Column and use it.
For Site Columns you can check following links
    Introduction to Columns
From site column to managed property - What's up with that?

thanks a lot for your reply it is really helpful. so as i understand that using site columns will be better in most cases, and there is not any specific reason for not using it? is this right ?
Second question, do u mean that if i have a list column named "Serial number", then this column will not be searched ? For example if i have serial number such as "12345" and i try searching this text "12345" i will not get
the item in my search ?
    Thanks
