SP2-0042: unknow command "imp"
I try to import file *.dmp using command
imp system/manager file=unknow.dmp
and there Oracle give me an error:
SP2-0042: unknow command "imp" - rest of line ignored
File was export in the same number of version Oracle!!
What is wrong?? :(
And I have the second question...
Can we import file which was create or another OS version??
For example:
export is on Linux, and import is on Windows?? The Oracle version is the same.
Thanks for help.

Strange SP2-0042: unknown command in sqlplus
Hello everyone,i was attemptting to execute a sql statement from an external file. But i got "SP2-0042: unknown command "ï»? - rest of line ignored.". It's works with ANSI but can not based on UTF8 encoding.My file only contains as following :
spo db_changesfff.log
SPO OFF
Anyone has ideas?thanks in advance!!We had this problem as well and we noticed that the script file that contained the UTF-8 had two FF FE magic numbers at the beginning of the file. View your file in HEX mode of your text editor and verify that a single FF FE is at the beginning of the file. We created our UTF-8 file using Notepad. This seems to put two FF FE's in the file header. When we removed one set of FF FE, everything worked just fine.

drop table STOCK;
drop table LEDGER;
prompt *** CREATE TABLES ***
prompt LEDGER
create table LEDGER
ActionDate DATE,
Action VARCHAR2(8),
Item VARCHAR2(30),
Quantity NUMBER,

prompt STOCK
create table STOCK
Company VARCHAR2(20),
Symbol VARCHAR2(6),
Industry VARCHAR2(15),
CloseYesterday NUMBER(6,2),
CloseToday NUMBER(6,2),
Volume NUMBER
and when i run it i get an error when it's trying to create the table. It seems as if it doesn't understand what i'm trying to tell it. -

"SP2-0734: unknown command..." error while importing a dump file
hello,
i want to import a dump file into my database named orcl, and i come accross the same error after executing the import command. my import command is:
SQL> imp mvdemo/mvdemo file=mvdemo.dmp full=y ignore=y
i use oracle 10g enterprise edition.
i created the user mvdemo/mvdemo.
the error i see in my screen is:
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "imp mvde..." - rest of line ignored.
for a long period of time, i havent used oracle dbms. before, i remember that i used enterprise manager in import/export processes. however, i am not able to find the enterprise manager in 10g options now. do i have to install the enterprise manager seperately in oracle 10g enterprise edition? may this problem be relational with this matter?
if someone could answer, i would be greatful.
best regardsImport is run from the command prompt, not the SQL prompt.

Sql select with concate of columns SP2-0734: unknown command beginning
I am running a ksh script that does some dumpster diving and pull records out.
It is basically reading a file does a select and at the end, you will see $i.
AND ORD_ORDER.ADV_ORDER_TEXT_FIELD_568='$';
I can run the script manually. (without the while loop)
But, when I run it thru the script I get a whack of errors.
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "FROM ADVXR..." - rest of line ignored.
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "ADVXRT_HDB..." - rest of line ignored.
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "ADVXRT_HDB..." - rest of line ignored.
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "ADVXRT_HDB..." - rest of line ignored.

Compile occi error LNK2019 on windows XP SP2 with VC7 command line
I try to compile a cpp file from command line under Windows XP SP2 environment with:
- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003
- Oracle 10g 10.1.0.2.0 client (admin) installed
, but I encountered error on the code "env = Environment::createEnvironment (Environment::DEFAULT);" as follows:

I have already included necessary e.g. oraocci10.dll, oraociei10.dll for the %PATH% and %LIB% environment variables, and have tried many times but still fail, are there something I done wrong or missing?
The command line I used to compile the program is "cl -GX occiclient1.cpp"hi!
My partition has c: 40GB ( i dumped sap software in this drive) and d: 120GB. And i hav e: drive for CD Drive.
Actually, the drives set "AUTO Mount". i removed the mount. it will work. i was given all all input parameters of Central Instance......
After start the Central instance,
step 2, File system check/adapt (post processing) , i got same problem. Even i tried windows XP and Win 2003 also.
i logged as administrator user only......... i installed jdk........ and i chek it's working fine........
what was the solution...

10g Host command imp.exe not working
Hi,
Just created a relatively simple form that uses host command.
I create a sql script using text_io to create a new user.
I then use host to run that script on the app server.
All this works fine.
Then i use host command to try and import into the db. This is when it does nothing.
I have cut it down to bear bones and a button with the command:
host('D:\oracle\database\BIN\imp.exe LOG=D:\test.log');This doesnt even create the log "test.log"
If i copy and paste this into the run box on the app server the log is created?
Any ideas?
Thankshi
first try to import by using dos go to start,run and cmd something like this.
c:\Imp user/pass@orcl file=c:\file.dmp log=c:\log_name.log full=y
What is import/export and why does one need it?
Oracle's export (exp) and import (imp) utilities are used to perform logical database backup and recovery. When exporting, database objects are dumped to a binary file which can then be imported into another Oracle database.
These utilities can be used to move data between different machines, databases or schema. However, as they use a proprietary binary file format, they can only be used between Oracle databases. One cannot export data and expect to import it into a non-Oracle database.
Various parameters are available to control what objects are exported or imported. To get a list of available parameters, run the exp or imp utilities with the help=yes parameter.
The export/import utilities are commonly used to perform the following tasks:
Backup and recovery (small databases only, say < +50GB, if bigger, use RMAN instead)
Move data between Oracle databases on different platforms (for example from Solaris to Windows)
Reorganization of data/ eliminate database fragmentation (export, drop and re-import tables)
Upgrade databases from extremely old versions of Oracle (when in-place upgrades are not supported by the Database Upgrade Assistant any more)
Detect database corruption. Ensure that all the data can be read
Transporting tablespaces between databases
Etc.
From Oracle 10g, users can choose between using the old imp/exp utilities, or the newly introduced Datapump utilities, called expdp and impdp. These new utilities introduce much needed performance improvements, network based exports and imports, etc.
NOTE: It is generally advised not to use exports as the only means of backing-up a database. Physical backup methods (for example, when you use RMAN) are normally much quicker and supports point in time based recovery (apply archivelogs after recovering a database). Also, exp/imp is not practical for large database environments.
[edit] How does one use the import/export utilities?
Look for the "imp" and "exp" executables in your $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory. One can run them interactively, using command line parameters, or using parameter files. Look at the imp/exp parameters before starting. These parameters can be listed by executing the following commands: "exp help=yes" or "imp help=yes".
The following examples demonstrate how the imp/exp utilities can be used:
exp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp log=emp.log tables=emp rows=yes indexes=no
exp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp tables=(emp,dept)
imp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp full=yes
imp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp fromuser=scott touser=scott tables=dept
Using a parameter file:
exp userid=scott/tiger@orcl parfile=export.txt
... where export.txt contains:
BUFFER=10000000
FILE=account.dmp
FULL=n
OWNER=scott
GRANTS=y
COMPRESS=y
NOTE: If you do not like command line utilities, you can import and export data with the "Schema Manager" GUI that ships with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
[edit] Can one export a subset of a table?
From Oracle 8i one can use the QUERY= export parameter to selectively unload a subset of the data from a table. You may need to escape special chars on the command line, for example: query=\"where deptno=10\". Look at these examples:
exp scott/tiger tables=emp query="where deptno=10"
exp scott/tiger file=abc.dmp tables=abc query=\"where sex=\'f\'\" rows=yes--------------------------
You can also use DBMS_DATAPUMP.
For example, you can start the export job from a PL/SQL package with the following PL/SQL code:
declare
handle number;
begin
handle := dbms_datapump.open('EXPORT','SCHEMA');
dbms_datapump.add_file(handle,'SCOTT3.DMP','DUMPDIR');
dbms_datapump.metadata_filter(handle,'SCHEMA_EXPR','= ''SCOTT''');
dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle,4);
dbms_datapump.start_job(handle);
dbms_datapump.detach(handle);
end;

"loadjava" is unknow command in SQL*Plus (Oracle8i)
I am attempting to laod a java class in the database but when I type the command "loadjava" the SQL*Plus prompt indicates this is an unknown command. Is there a configuration problem I should address with the DBA?
Chris,
If you want the loadjava command, it's outside the database (a batch file if you're Windows). The other option is the CREATE OR REPLACE JAVA example I told you about in an earlier thread.
Hope this helps,

SqlPLus SP2-0544 invalid command: SPOOL
Hi,
one of those frustrating setup problems. I'm trying to create a SPOOL file on NT, with SqlPlus 8.1.5 (or 8.1.7). I had it working, but then I had to reinstall the N8 client. Now, SqlPlus rejects any attempt to use the SPOOL command. I checked the DLLs in memory while SqlPlus was running, but they are all the correct version. Also checked the registry, environment variables, Path, etc.
Is this some common bug ? In fact, I'm getting the same error number if I type the EDIT command. The difference is that SPOOL has worked last week, while I could never make EDIT work (first attempt December 1992). In the past, I had SPOOL working on-again off-again on Solaris.
Any hints ? Redirecting the output at operating-system level is not an option, because I need to Accept a few variables from the user.
AndrewHi Tapash
This is fixed, thanks for the response. My script had some invalid white space characters which were not visible in Unix, this was causing some errors.

SQL Plus giving SP2-0024: Nothing to change error
I'm just about to lose my mind.
I'm running the following in SQL Plus -
set echo off
set feedback off
set linesize 1000
set sqlprompt ''
spool c:\TEMP2\App_Eng1.csv replace
Select A.OBJECTOWNERID||','||B.OBJECTVALUE1 from PSPROJECTITEM B, PSAEAPPLDEFN A
Where B.PROJECTNAME = 'PRJ732075'
and B.SOURCESTATUS = 2
and B.TARGETSTATUS = 1
and B.OBJECTVALUE2 = ' '
and B.OBJECTTYPE=33
and A.AE_APPLID = B.OBJECTVALUE1
spool off
and I get the following in return -
SQL> set echo off
SQL> set feedback off
SQL> set linesize 1000
SQL> set sqlprompt ''
spool c:\TEMP2\App_Eng1.csv replace
SP2-0024: Nothing to change.
Select A.OBJECTOWNERID||','||B.OBJECTVALUE1 from PSPROJECTITEM B, PSAEAPPLDEFN A
2 Where B.PROJECTNAME = 'PRJ732075'
3 and B.SOURCESTATUS = 2
4 and B.TARGETSTATUS = 1
5 and B.OBJECTVALUE2 = ' '
6 and B.OBJECTTYPE=33
7 and A.AE_APPLID = B.OBJECTVALUE1
8
spool off
SP2-0042: unknown command "off" - rest of line ignored.
Why am I getting these errors?
Also, when I clear the SQL, rerun the SQL and try to open the App_Eng1.csv file
I get a window telling me the file is locked. The only way for me to unlock the file is to shutdown the SQL Plus window. Why is this?
All I am trying to do is to download data from an Oracle table to an Excel spreadsheet. Is there a relatively easy way to do this using SQL Developer code or should I continue to fight with SQL Plus? I'm trying to automate a process so I don't want to use the manual steps like the DTS Import by Excel.
Any help? Please?Thanks for the info. I have another issue. I'm not sure that my Spool Off command is being recognized. Here's the script I'm running -
set echo off
set feedback off
set linesize 1000
set sqlprompt ''
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM PSPROJECTITEM;
spool c:\TEMP2\App_Eng1.csv replace
Select A.OBJECTOWNERID||','||B.OBJECTVALUE1
from PSPROJECTITEM B, PSAEAPPLDEFN A
Where B.PROJECTNAME = 'PRJ732075'
and B.SOURCESTATUS = 2
and B.TARGETSTATUS = 1
and B.OBJECTVALUE2 = ' '
and B.OBJECTTYPE=33
and A.AE_APPLID = B.OBJECTVALUE1;
spool off
Most of the time the App_Eng1.csv file is telling me that it can't be opened because it's being used by another user, even after I close SQL Plus. I have to physically perform the Spool Off command from the menu. But even then the csv file is blank. Any ideas? -
