Spanish Dictionary in Lions

How do I add additional dictionaries under Lios Spell Checker and Dictionary?   where is the Spanish Dictionary?

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation, my macbook only has English or Japanese (?) options in the dictionary app and I want to add portuguese. It seems so bloody complicated to do, when are Apple going to fix this? This article might help you, but it didn't work for me. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/easily-expanding-apple-dictionary-–-mac-only/
Good luck!

  • Where do I find the Spanish dictionary I downloaded from Firefox?

I see the Spanish dictionary I downloaded as a Firefox add-on in the add-on list, but how do I get to it to use it?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.<br />
Also make sure that [X]"Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.

  • Iphone and installing an English/Spanish Dictionary

I am looking for a way to put an English/Spanish dictionary on my iphone. My guess is that I need to purchase an English/Spanish dictionary CD Book. Any suggestions of where I might purchase something like this or is there a better solution? I want to be able to use it without being on the internet. Thanks,

For now I'd recommend going online and finding a webpage that translates English to Spanish reliably and then use that. You could even add the icon to you your home screen if you've got the 1.1.3 update. Since you've got the edge for internet this could work pretty well for you.

  • Add Spanish Dictionary

I would like to add a spanish dictionary to the OS X dictionary app. You just know there has to be one available somewhere in the Apple install disks, but I cannot find one.
Anyone know how to find the .dictionary file for the spanish dictionary? I assume it would work just to add it to the library (I have done this with other dictionaries).

No, a Spanish version is not included. Nor for any other language except Japanese. Some more info:

In case it is spell checking that you need, Dictionary.app is not involved with that.

  • Spanish dictionary on prs-600

Hi, I bought a Collins Spanish dictionary in the epub format. It contains 1800 pages. Opening it takes a lengthy 2 minutes...at first I thought the ebook was frozen. Searching by page number takes also 2 minutes...the word search function does work sometimes but requires eternity when it works. It might even shut the ebook down and reboot. This problem is exactly the same when I try to use it with Readers on my laptop where memory is not an issue. Any idea what the problem may be ? Thanks

From your description, and also from the fact that you are having the issue both on your reader and your PC it appears that the epub file is corrupted. Try to re-download it to see if a new copy works better.

  • How can I install an English-Spanish dictionary built-in?

I've tried to install some English-Spanish dictionary to use it to read in English. I am a beginner student and I need some help. I know this is possible in Amazon's Kindle, but not in their application to ipad. How can I do this In IBooks? I don't understand the reason why it seems to be impossible: copyrights, software licenses? Really I like IBooks but I think this is a great handicap. Should I buy a Kindle to do this? I hope for your help. And sorry, could be lots of mistakes in my post... I'm an beginner English student. Thanks

The Kindle app for iOS doesn't have this function either. If you mean a Kindle device, perhaps, but verify it is an available function on it as well. I suspect most eBook reading apps will be limited to defining rather than translating.
The app store does have several translation apps.

  • I am studying in Spain and need to access to a Spanish dictionary, spellcheck and grammer check in Word for Apple.  Can anyone help?

I have been unable to download a dictionary, and then have access to it through Word. I don't know how to do this correctly.  Can anyone help?

If I were you, I'd try posting here - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword.
I'm certain that there are Spanish dictionaries and thesauri available for Word. I believe that they even come standard with the installation disc and that you can choose to install them. But best to go to the Word experts, I think.
    Good luck,

  • Installed iOS7 in Spanish, no Spanish dictionary

I've read that no Spanish-English dictionary is available, which is ludicrous, but that a Span-Span exists. How do I get it? And why don't I have it already when I choose the native language during the installation process as Spanish?

  • HT4059 Spanish dictionary?

I would like to download books in Spanish, with a Spanish (spanish - English would be even better) dictionary integrated into the text, as with the regular books I download in English now.  How do I do this?

It's the iBooks app itself which has the English dictionary built-in to it (it also has Japanese built-in), not the book. You can try leaving feedback that Spanish be added, but in the meantime you could see if there are any stand-alone Spanish-to-English dictionary apps in the app store and switch into that via the iPad's taskbar whenever you want to look up a word

  • Spanish dictionary for ibooks

I use iBooks for Spanish books.  On my iPad I easily associate iBooks with a built-in Spanish dictioinary.  This must exist in my new Mavericks Mac operating system but I cannot see how to load it.  Also, my iBooks are not sychronized between iMac and iPad.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Tom - this is helpful.  However, the selection this app gives me is four English-language dictionaries when I select "All":  New Oxford American Dictionary, Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus, Apple Dictionary and Wikipedia.  I know there are dictionaries in other languages lurking in there somewhere, and they are readily available on iPad.  But where do I find them in Mavericks?

  • English dictionary has disappeared with mountain lion (a complaint from Spain)

    Hi,
I'm a Spanish Mac user and was a fond user of the excellent built-in English dictionary that came with Lion and with former operating systems. A couple of days ago I installed the new Mountain Lion and noticed that the former English dictionary had been replaced by a school-level Spanish dictionary. I felt betrayed and dumped, as I encountered no warning during installation that this was going to happen. And of course the Mountain Lion reviews I had read in the past weeks did not mention this problem, as it does not affect users from English-speaking countries. Has anyone experienced the same problem? What can I do? I have tried to recover and install a former version of the Dictionary app, but I haven't succeeded yet.
Besides, since I installed Mountain Lion Mail has become so slow that I now prefer checking email on the website. The connection between Mail and the new Address Book (now called Contacts) is also incredibly slow. In sum: the bunch of new iPad-inspired applications that are included in Mountain Lion definitely come with too many disadvantages. Sincerely, I wouldn't recommend to install it, unless these inconveniences are solved. Please, Apple, solve them quickly. This is just a disgrace.
    Best,
    Marta

That is not the case for any standard installation.  Everyone should have all the old dictionaries, plus Spanish, German, and Chinese.
Have you gone to the Preferences of Dictionary.app and made sure all the boxes are checked?
