Spatial Stored Proc Causing ORA-29902
Good afternoon,
I am getting an Oracle exception thrown when I try to run a spatial stored procedure.
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA table
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA table

ORA-06512: at line 1
Prepared Statement:
SELECT s.length,
s.lki_segment_ext_id,
sg.lki_segment_number,
sg.geometry segment_geometry,
h.highway_number || h.highway_letter highway,
h.description highway_description
FROM cis_lki_segment_node_ext sn,
cis_lki_segment_ext s,
cis_lki_segment_geometry_ext sg,
cis_lki_highway_lki_segment hs,
cis_lki_highway_ext h
WHERE sn.lki_segment_node_ext_id = s.begin_lki_segment_node_ext_id
AND s.lki_segment_ext_id = hs.lki_segment_ext_id
AND hs.lki_highway_ext_id = h.lki_highway_ext_id
AND sg.lki_segment_number = s.segment_number
AND sn.version_id = in_lki_version_id
AND sg.version_id = in_geometry_version_id
AND hs.primary_highway_flag = 'Y'
AND SDO_RELATE(sg.geometry, in_geometry, 'mask=ANYINTERACT querytype=WINDOW') = 'TRUE';
I have been able to run this query successfully in a SQL window. The odd thing is that if I remove the "AND hs.primary_highway_flag = 'Y'" clause from the Procedure it then works fine.
I have also tried a sub select of the table(s) in the FROM part and same results. works great in SQL not at all as a Procedure.
I even swapped out the PRIMARY_HIGHWAY_FLAG with another string compare from the same table and the error message was the same.
Does Spatial have some problems dealing with string parsing?
Eric W
No Vicky,
We still have the same problem and our workaround was to return the value we were filtering on and handle it on the Java side.
sgreener, (sorry I did not reply earlier I was pulled off onto another project)
The in_geometry is passed into the procedure. It looks for features from a user defined area.
Albert, I have had our in house Oracle guru look this over and he does not get it either. He has re-worked it a couple of times running it through explain plan and like I had said, as a sql statement it works great but when we plug it in as a stored proc then it does not work
As for As for Oracle version we are currently using 9i (9.0.4)
I am a GIS developer so I am quite familiar with how Geometry is/ can be handled while our Oracle guru, while an old hat at it is new to working with Spatial data. So in this case we are both at a loss.

But few messages are giving following error in XI-_SXMB_MONI
Can any one guide me what is the cause of error? I check whole Idoc data I am not able to see bad character? can any once guide me what are the bad character in XML to post data in oracle? so that i can search in XML and how to avoide this error.

sure you can remove it using Replace function or by writing UDF.
as I am seing # is last character..<b>so remove # with " " (single space) and then use the TRIM fucntion.</b>

Item Type Based on PL/SQL stored proc causing errors
I am getting the following error when I add this item type based on a pl/sql stored proc that generates html based on the stored proc... the stored proc returns find but the other porlets get Error Message in there headers and in the porlet content I get:
Error: The listener returned the following Message: 503 Service Unavailable....
I also get the same error if I click on a link that is generated from my stored proc for the entire page I get the error:
Error: The listener returned the following Message: 503 Service Unavailable
and get nothing else returned...Greetings
I suggest you take a look at the following page and have a look on how to create portlets. Since the PL/SQL PDK allows you to create your own portlets inside the Oracle Database there should be no problem for creating the content inside a portlet the way you want it.

ORA-03113 error when running the Java stored proc demos
Hi there,
Has anyone else run into this issue. When attempting to transfer an object type from Java to Oracle - through a Java stored proc - the session crashes with:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channelLooking in the trace file generated the error message looks something like:

Current SQL statement for this session:

I would appreciate some help with this. The code works fine in a Windows or Solaris environment but barfs on Apple. Truly annoying....
Anyone?
Thanks in advance,
AlexYes,
Apologies for not stating that information, Steve. Was a bit naughty of me! I guess the reason I didn't was because I just wanted to hear if anyone else running Oracle on Mac received such errors when executing the Java stored proc demos (specifically, the execution of PointRuntime.jDistance). Nevertheless, here's the relevant info from the trace file:

We'll try this, but it seems to be connection-oriented. If we have a pool
of 5 connections, and an exception happens, only that connection seems tobe
affected. The other connections in the pool work fine, and the proc works
for those connections.
"Joseph Weinstein" <[email protected]> wrote in message

Hi.
The issue is likely related to our caching of PreparedStatements
for performance. If some DBMS failure occurs which could invalidate
a PreparedStatement/cursor such that it could never be re-used,
even after clearParameters) are called etc, then this case might
occur. Please take the attached jar file, and add it to the
weblogic.classpath ahead of the standard weblogic stuff, by
editing your startWebLogic script. This will turn off caching, and
should make the problem go away. Let me know...

Hi John,
I have researched about this - but could not find a known issue
which
may
be

Which JDBC driver are you using?

ORA-29902 after restoring the database
Hello friends,
Our database crashed 2 weeks ago and we had rman backups and I restore backups and it fixed. ORACLE version: 11.2.0.3.0, OS: Win server 2008
But now when we want to run our old quires which were working without problem before get exception:
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine

our query:
SELECT R.*
FROM DPS_CAMERAS_V R
WHERE SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE(R.geom, SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, SDO_POINT_TYPE(-118.28648979370115, 34.02271512835471, null), null, null), 'DISTANCE=10 UNIT=MILE') = 'TRUE'
I checked the table spatial index to make sure that it is still there and did not get deleted during the restoring process and it was there.
I opened the index using sqldeveloper and it was written on top of the sql: -- Unable to render INDEX DDL for object IWATCH.DPS_CAMERA_IDX with DBMS_METADATA attempting internal generator.
Thanks for your helpI used the solution here:
http://scn.sap.com/thread/562143
And the query I mentioned above worked properly.
But I changed the query to:
SELECT R.*
FROM DPS_CAMERAS R
WHERE SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE(R.geom, SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, SDO_POINT_TYPE(-118.28648979370115, 34.02271512835471, null), null, null), 'DISTANCE=10 UNIT=MILE') = 'TRUE'
To run query on the main table instead of the view and I got:

Crystal Report using Stored Proc in JSP problem
Hello,
I am running a simple report using a stored proc(oracle). It runs fine when I run the report through Crystal. But when I tried running it using JSP it gives me this exception -
com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.CrystalRepo rtViewer
Error formatting page : Unexpected Query Engine error
Can some one pls advise why I am not able to run this report through JSP?
My other reports with simple sql runs fine in my JSP.
Here is my stored proc --
PACKAGE BODY MY_TEST
AS
PROCEDURE getrecordset
p_cursor OUT cursor_type
IS
BEGIN
OPEN p_cursor FOR
SELECT
FROM
DSR_CLASS_SET;
END;
END MY_TEST;Thanks for your comments.
If I run the same query, report runs fine. So I guess it should also able to run this stored proc.
Here is the detailed error ---

Error creating Crystal Report using Stored Proc Universe
Hi,
I have created a stored procedure Universe, using the new feature available in XI R3.
This connects to an Oracle database, executing a PL/SQL procedure returning ref cursor.
I have created a WebI report using this Universe, which works fine and functions as expected.
So there are no problems with either my Oracle stored proc or the Universe.
However, I would like to create a Crystal report (2008) using the same Universe.
I can create the report ok - using the SP Universe.
When I attempt to refresh the data I get an error:
Failed to retrieve data from the database.
Details: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

Error committing transaction in Stored Proc call - prev solns not working
Hi All,
Our process invokes a DB adapter to fetch the response from the table for our request via Stored Procedure call but facing the below issue. Its a synchronous process. Stored Procedure is present inside the Package and we are calling the Stored procedure using that Package.
What we did is created a DB datasource of XA type and tried to call the Stored Proc but it was giving a problem “ORA-24777: use of non-migratable database link not allowed” and hence according to this thread Using DB links in Stored proc call in DB adapter 11G SOA we have modified the datasource as non-XA type.
While we do that, we could see that Stored Proc is called and the response is present in the reply payload inside the flow trace. But the instance is getting faulted and the error is “Error committing transaction:; nested exception is: javax.transaction.xa.XAException: JDBC driver does not support XA, hence cannot be a participant in two-phase commit. To force this participation, set the GlobalTransactionsProtocol attribute to LoggingLastResource (recommended) or EmulateTwoPhaseCommit for the Data Source.”
We have tried the properties of global transaction support as one phase commit, emulate two phase commit and logging last resource but error remains the same.
Database from which we are getting the response is of version "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production". Will the database link error arises even if we connect to Oracle Database?
Please could you advise me solutions to resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance.You are using Non-XA because it means (among all others) that the commit issue can be handle by the DB as well.
The Emulate Two Phase property imitating the XA transaction in that way, that it allows you to manage a local db transaction.
You can stay with XA connection, but then you will have to use "AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION pragma" in your procedure.

XML Parsing in Java Stored Proc--Oracle XML Support Installation?
I am working with a third party product that is having difficulty running a java stored proc that is parsing a supplied XML file. The proc basically looks like:
import java.io.IOException;
import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder;
import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
import javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError;
import javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException;
import org.w3c.dom.Document;
import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
InputStream is = getXMLAsInputStream(xml);
try {
DocumentBuilderFactory factory =
DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
Document document = builder.parse( is );
... parse the document ....
catch (FactoryConfigurationError e) {
// unable to get a document builder factory
We are running on 9.2.0.6, HP-UX 64-bit. At first, when we would attempt to run the proc, a database hang would occur; now after attempting to install using loadjava jars for xerces2.6: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError: Provider
org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl not found)
The vendor says that the errors we are getting when running are not due to any dependency on xerces or jre1.4, and that we need to "install Oracle XML support", but I'm not certain what this means (I cannot find any documentation on what to install). I believe that there are jars that need to be loaded into the database to support the XML parsing, as jre1.3 does not include built-in XML support, and Oracle 9.2.0.6 uses jre1.3.
So...does anyone have any thoughts as to how to resolve the missing references? Is there a way to "install Oracle XML support", or is it to install the necessary jars?
Thanks,
CandiCandi,

Best approach to return Large data ( 4K) from Stored Proc
We have a stored proc (Oracle 8i) that:
1) receives some parameters.
2)performs computations which create a large block of data
3) return this data to caller.
compatible with both ASP (using MSDAORA.Oracle), and ColdFusion (using Oracle ODBC driver). This procedure is critical in terms of performance.
I have written this procedure as having an OUT param which is a REF CURSOR to a record containing a LONG. In order to make this work, at the end of the procedure I have to store the working buffer (an internal LONG variable) into a temp table, and then open the cursor as a SELECT from the temp table.
I have tried to open the cursor as a SELECT of the working buffer (from dual) but I get the error "ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested"
I suspect this is taking too much time; any tips about the best approach here? is there a resource with REAL examples on returning large data?
If I switch to CLOB, will it speed the process, be compatible with callers, etc ? all references to CLOB I saw use trivial examples.
Thanks for any help,
Yoram AyalonWe have a stored proc (Oracle 8i) that:
1) receives some parameters.
2)performs computations which create a large block of data
3) return this data to caller.
compatible with both ASP (using MSDAORA.Oracle), and ColdFusion (using Oracle ODBC driver). This procedure is critical in terms of performance.

Can't execute OS-level command from java stored proc
I've written a couple simple java stored procs, the first of which writes an file and the second attempts a chown on it. I can write the file (which is written as the oracle user) just fine. I need to chown it, but can't. Here's the first proc:
public static String writefile()
String fileName = "/joetest/test.xml";
try {
File f = new File(fileName);
FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(f);
PrintStream p = new PrintStream(out);
p.println("this is only a test");
p.close();
return "create file successful!!!";
} catch (Exception e) {
return "Exception occurred writing file:"+e;
Here's the proc I've been stuggling with:
public static String chown(String inString)
String[] command = {"/bin/sh", "-c", "/usr/bin/chown notjoe /joetest/test.xml"};
if (inString != null) {
command[2] = inString;
try {
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
return "Ownership change success!! "+p;
} catch (Exception e) {
return "Ownership change failure?? err="+e;
The package is created with:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE JOE.THISISATEST AS
FUNCTION writefile
return VARCHAR2
AS
LANGUAGE java
NAME 'thisisatest.writefile() return java.lang.String';
FUNCTION chown(Param1 VARCHAR2)
return VARCHAR2
AS
LANGUAGE java
NAME 'thisisatest.chown(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
end;
And I've granted the following privileges:
begin
dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '/joetest/test.xml', 'read, write, execute, delete');
end;
begin
dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '/usr/bin/chown', 'execute');
end;
begin
dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'writeFileDescriptor', '');
end;
begin
dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'readFileDescriptor', '');
end;
Here's the error that I'm getting:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
Coincidentally, this is the same error that I used to get when I wrote the file without having been granted write privileges. Once I granted myself the proper 'write' permissions I could perform file IO just fine. Is there some runtime permission that I need to grant myself to run chown? I'm just guessing, as I can't find any permission like that in the java documentation. I have 'execute' permission on /usr/bin/chown and the oracle user can execute the command I'm attempting from the command line. ARRRRRGH.
I am at my wits end with this. I've tried what seems like a thousand different syntaxes for the OS command and ran it from many different directories. Anyone have any thoughts at all as to why this is happening? I'm just clutching at straws now...Hmmmm. Granting 'execute' on '<<ALL FILES>>' to user JOE fixes this problem:
begin
dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '<<ALL FILES>>', 'execute');
end;
My security folks will not allow this when I port to production, but at least it is something.

I have an iPad 2 that I want to give to a friend. I'd like to reset it to factory settings, WITHOUT "upgrading" to IOS-8 (I have a 4 that is upgraded & fine, just have my doubts about 8 on a 2). I've had it laying around my office and I'm not sure
