Specify name of session id cookie to be something other than jsessionid?

I was browsing the contents of the orion-web.xml and noted that there is an id attribute in the session-config element. Can this be used to specify an alternative name other than jsessionid for the session id? If not is there a way of specifying an alternative name in some other way in Oracle 10g AS? This might aid migration from another appllication server to Oracle.

Hi,
no, you can't. The session-config allows you to e.g. set the time out for an idle session

  • Renaming files with invalid characters in their names on NTFS partitions, introduced by operating systems other than Windows

    Essentially, Linux created some files with colons (:) in the name on a NTFS partition where I have Windows installed. I have since uninstalled Linux, but now I can only view these files in Windows Explorer. I can't open them, I can't even rename them to
    correct the problem. It's as if they don't exist, because of the invalid search paths.
    If I try to rename them in Windows Explorer I get following message.
    The file name you specified is no valid or too long.
    Specify a different file name.
    Well isnt' that something?... isn't that nice? Windows is able to display these files, but it doesn't allow me to open them and it certainly doesn't like me to rename them. So why is it whining about it then, when I'm trying to help? It says "try a different
    file name". Yeah, right! Like I haven't tried that one already! It doesn't matter what file name I input it will never accept it.
    So what am I supposed to do now? Ditch Windows and go back to Linux? Surely, Microsoft doesn't like the sound of that. Sure, I could reinstall Linux or run a Linux live system to correct the problem. But what good is Windows then? I might as well switch to
    Linux altogether.
    After doing some research I now know by fact that it's (kind of) possible to rename files from UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems to those compliant with Windows by using something called file name character translation. To some level this is essential and
    necessary for Windows interoperability with other operating systems (Windows is not the only operating system in the world). But this seems to be very complicated and I can't get my head around it. My brain is in overload. I don't know where to start.

    There's the Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5. The first two versions were based on MKS Toolkit, a package licensed by Microsoft from MKS Inc. The later versions were based on the similar Interix product, after Microsoft purchased the company
    that made it.
    Then there's the new Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA). These are services for UNIX components. They are supposed to have Client for NFS v3 included as well. But the server components from the SFU line is missing (e.g. Server for NFS). These are included
    in Server editions of Windows.
    Then there's the Microsoft Knowledge Base article
    289627: "How to Enable File Name Character Translation". This article seems to describe exactly my situation.
    Windows and UNIX operating systems have restrictions on valid characters that can be used in a file name. The list of illegal characters for each operating system, however, is different. For example, a UNIX file name can use a colon (:), but a Windows
    file name cannot use a colon (:). If a UNIX user attempts to create a file with a Windows illegal character on a Windows Services for UNIX network file system (NFS) share, the attempt is unsuccessful and the UNIX client computer receives an input or output
    error.
    It goes further than that. At first glance, this KB article also seems to offer a solution to this exact problem, with examples as shown below.
    For example, the following maps the UNIX colon (:) to a Windows dash (-):
    0x3a : 0x2d ; replace client : with - on server
    I checked these values in charmap.exe and they are correct. Except for 2D not being a "dash", it's rather a hyphen ("hyphen minus" to be exact), but these two have pretty much the same appearance and they get interchanged a lot, I'm sure
    they are used to it by now. (Yes, the characters! They don't mind.)
    Then there's this registry key.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Server For NFS\CurrentVersion\Mapping
    Well, of course, I don't have Server for NFS. So this is a dead end. Well, actually, it was a dead end from the beginning...
    1. First of all, I'm not working with a network share on a NAS or SAN storage. The files are on the local disk drive where Windows is installed, so that's a DAS for you.
    2. I don't have SFU! Well obviously, I'm on Windows Vista! So that means SUA!
    3. SUA are service components only. No server components. Can you guess what that means? Yeah... no "Server for NFS" since it's a server component.
    4. Windows Vista is a client side operating system! Server for NFS is only offered for use with Windows Server systems.
    5. Back to square one!
    So there you have it. They all lived happy for the rest of their lives...
    I'm stuck here. Can someone tell me what to do? I mean beyond the obvious option to use Linux to fixa a Windows problem? The NTFS file system itself supports colons in file names. It's Windows that doesn't, and so by default it proclaims it invalid character.
    Surely, even a Windows client operating system like Windows Vista should be able to allow the user to at least rename files with invalid characters to something more sensible (from the system point of view) and valid, if not being able to open them as they
    are. Just add some crazy voodoo code to it and it will work. If you can make it possible on Windows Server with UNIX user-mode subsystem on NT kernel, then what's stopping you from giving the Windows client system the same benefit?
    So what now? Purchase a Windows Server 2012 R2 license, copy my invalid files to a NAS share with NFS on a UNIX or Linux system, and have a go at the Windows registry and Server for NFS? Yeah... you're right, it's probably a bit over the top...
    On a second thought... I might as well install Linux again. There are countless situations where Linux has helped me solve problems related to, and more often than not caused by Windows.

  • Is It Possible To Store Something Other Than An Object In A Session?

    I have seen how to store an object in a session and the syntax is
    public void setAttribute(String name, Object value);and we usually put String(s) in that object; for example, we have a customer object and we do the following:
    customer.setStartDate( request.getParameter("startDate") );
    customer.setEndDate( request.getParameter("endDate") );
    customer.setOriginal( request.getParameter("origin") );
    HttpSession sesssion = request.getSession();
    session.setAttribute( "customer", customer );Is it possible to store a String in a session? What if I only want to store a String "origin" in a session so that this String can be passed to all subsequent requests?

    Anything that is derived from Object.
    String s = "something";
    session.setAttribite("key", s);

  • XSQL Session and Cookies

    Hi, Steven,
    I have a question about cookies parameters in include-parameters.
    When set the following in my xsql file:
    <xsql:set-session-param name="current_user" value="{@sessionid}"/>
    <xsql:include-param name="mode"/>
    <xsql:include-request-params/>
    In the xml output, it looks like this.
    <request>
    <parameters>
    </parameters>
    <session/>
    <cookies/>
    </request>
    How come the session and cookies values are not appeared in XML file? However, if I reload the xsql file, the session and cookies values are there. Any idea what might be wrong or it is what should be?
    Thanks in advance.
    Julie Zhu

    I'd expect the cookies not to show up until the page request after the one in which they are set. This is correct since setting the cookies is something that's done on the response. Reading the cookies is reading them from the request.
    Regarding the session variables, it's
    always important to say what Web Servlet / Servlet Engine you're using XSQL with. Perhaps the setting of Servlet session variables behaves differently on different servers.

  • "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop" with same "user name" and "session Id" recorded in different RADIUS servers.

    Hi,
    I have questions about "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop".
    1.If a NAS configured to have a primary and a backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the primary server goes down (Primary server won’t tell the NAS?). When sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the secondary. I understand the “Start-Stop” record with the same “user name” and “session-id” ideally should be recorded in the same server. If this situation happens what should both the NAS and RADIUS server do?
    2.A NAS configured to have a primary and backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the administrator decided to change the primary server (as there are problems with the previous primary). sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the new primary. This ends up the “Accounting-Start” and “Accounting-Stop” with the same “user name” and “session Id” in two RADIUS servers.
    To summarize, how to avoid the ”start-stop” pair ends up in different servers ? If it does, is it  an issue for RADIUS application ?
    Cheers,

    following is the code in front controller's doFilter method. is this not thread safe?

            HttpServletResponse res = (HttpServletResponse) response;
            HttpSession session = req.getSession();
            somepackage.User user;

                user = (somepackage.User) session.getAttribute("user");

    in my logout page i am using
    session.invalidate();

  • Setting secure on session management cookie only in production

    I am faced with the following:
    In our developmentcycle we deliver full application exports to an acceptation environment and after testing to a production environment.
    However, only our production site does HTTPS. Development and acceptation only do HTTP.
    In production we have to set the "secure"flag on the session management cookie.
    We would like to set this flag in our deployment scripts.
    So,
    Is there an API we could use to set the "Secure" flag in the APEX metadata using SQL*Plus?

  • Cannot Update App-V 5.0 SP3 DB Server 'the specified name already in use'

    We planned to update our App-V  server from App-V 5.0 SP1 to App-V 5.0 SP3
    2 Servers (Both are Management Servers and Publishing Servers) with a remote SQL (2008 R2)
    we verified that all the registry keys exists according to the the
    Technet Document
    when we ran the setup file on the server we chose to install all of the roles and we got to the error:
    the specified name is already in use. you must provide a unique name database name
    The DB is already exist! we just want to update it to SP3 as well...
    So we installed all the roles but Management Server DB and the installation completed successfully,
    but now we still have a problem as the server can't connect to the DB (probably because it hasn't been updated)
    now we get this error:
    there were problems interacting with the database on the server. The error was: Invalid culomn name 'PackageOptional'.
    Invalid culomn name 'VersionOptional'
    we ran the setup with a domain admin that has full admin priviledges either on the App-V Servers and the SQL.
    we can't run the setup.exe on the SQL Server itself as it hosts many other DBs and doesn't have .Net Framework 4.5.1... besides the fact the DBAs don't really want to do it.
    we tried to backup the DB, attach it on a local SQL (under the App-V Server) , changed the registry keys to direct to the local DB and we got the same errors when we tried to run the upgrade!
    how come the documentation doesn't have anything about updating the DB?
    another question I couldn't figure out. can I use App-V Server 5.0 SP3 with App-V Client 5.0 SP2 HF4?
    anyway - please help!
    thanks!!
    Tamir Levy

    One more thing, I know how to expand the DB Scripts and run them manually on the SQL Server,
    but from my understanding, it is only to create new DBs and not to update the DB Tables...
    anyhow, I don't think the DB update should be such a complex and unfriendly method, especially when I took the DB and put it on a local SQL! this should be updated with a simple "Next , Next" Setup...
    Thanks
    Tamir Levy
    At the current time, there is some contradictory information available on technet.  On one side, the Planning for High Availability document describes how
    to extract the database scripts and run them against a SQL host so you don't have to run the EXE directly on the SQL host (yes, this does upgrade the tables too, not just create new ones, apparently the order to execute them is wrong).  On the other side,
    the App-V 5.0 SP3 Support Configurations indicates that any installation where you do not run the EXE on the SQL server is unsupported.
    As an enterprise customer who has SQL in a failover cluster, this confuses me.  I cannot run the installer on the SQL server (like you, and many other enterprise customers).  And even if I could, it doesn't mean the database would exist on the
    SQL server that it was run against, as the database can failover and nodes could be rebuilt!
    In regards to versions, when I said SP2 it was actually SP1.  You are correct, there were no server upgrades for SP2.
    Please be aware, I did not get the instructions to edit the database from Microsoft.  I provided them the steps I performed to get the application to work and I'm sharing them.  I am still waiting to hear back from them to see if this will be a
    supported path or not.  The setup was written to be executed directly on the SQL box, which is an unrealistic expectation for enterprise customers.  Even previous versions had to be extracted and applied via SQL scripts!
    The command above, from Alan, is part of the database scripts.  If you extract the scripts using /layout and /layoutdir (as described in Planning for High Availability),
    you will see a script called UpdateTables.sql.  This is a part of the script, not the whole thing.  There is more logic in this script that is required to get your publishing server up and running:
    It deletes all the daat from SchemaVersion then inserts a value of 2 into it.  If this doesn't happen, you'll get weird errors when trying to receive publishing information.
    If you can wait a few days for the upgrade, I would recommend that.  I expect some more documentation from Microsoft to come out and clear some of this up.

  • PPR and session timeout cookie

    Scott,
    Is there anyway of getting the PPR functionality to update the session timeout cookie whenever a PPR request is made???
    Thanks..

    I am using your session timeout function from otn.
    I am using it to timeout after a set period of inactivity, every time the page is redrawn the cookie time is updated.
    I am calling this function from the 'Session Verify Function' field in the authentication scheme, and initially setting the cookie on login.
    I believe that the cookie only gets updated when the page is re-drawn and the Session Verify Function is run??
    On a PPR request only part of the page is refreshed, the page header remains unaffected, which means the user can be active on a page without refreshing the timeout value on the cookie?
    (Not a major problem, but would be nice to be able to update the cookie on a PPR request as well)
    Thanks..

  • Specifying name of Automator output file?

    The Automator action "Combine PDF Pages" has an output of type "PDF Files". How do I tell it to save the file with a particular name in a particular place? I run the workflow and there's no error message, but I don't see a new file.

    P.S. Now I see that I can make the output file show up in a particular location by using a "Move Finder Items" action. But it shows up with a nonsense name. I would have thought that "Rename Finder Items" would be able to set the name, but I don't see how.

  • Using External_Stage can we specify a location other than staging dir

    While using external stage mode for weblogic(I am trying for weblogic92)we must manually copy the deployment files(web app) to the staging directory of each target server before deployment.
    Is there a option to copy the deployment files to another location other than Server's staging directory? To be more specific can I specify a location which is outside the server?
    Secondly, with no-stage option of weblogic we can have a external location for the web application, but in case of the cluster,
    this location has to be either shared or
    the secondary node should have the same location(path to the web application) as that of the primary server.
    Here is my config.xml entry of the primary node.
    <app-deployment>
    <name>TestWebApp</name>
    <target>TestCluster</target>
    <module-type>war</module-type>
    <source-path>C:\TestWebApp\TestWebApp.war</source-path>
    <security-dd-model>DDOnly</security-dd-model>
    <staging-mode>nostage</staging-mode>
    </app-deployment>
    Here there is only one source path for the entire Cluster. So if both of the server nodes have a valid location(C:\TestWebApp\TestWebApp.war), then the deployment will be fine on a running server. But on the second server node, if the Web app does not exists on that location, deployment will fail.
    When we share the location the concept of cluster is lost. If go with the second option then the user is restricted to have the same path on second node also.
    Is there any way to specify differnt locations(of the same web app) for different servers in the Cluster?

    A few points of clarity:
    1) Session starts in consumer group LOGIN_GROUP. That does not have session queueing since queueing sessions at log on time results in the user experience of a hung session, which we cannot have. Whether service X is used to get it there or something besides services is fine; how is not a concern at this point.
    2) Session moves to consumer group MAIN_GROUP after about 5 CPU seconds in the LOGIN_GROUP. We want to do this because the MAIN_GROUP has session queuing, which we want for most sessions after they have the unqueued login experience per point #1.
    3) Session moves to consumer group SLOW_GROUP after about 60 CPU seconds in the MAIN_GROUP (or some number of seconds; exact numbers are not the main focus here). We want this because we want long-running queries to be downgraded. However, we don't want to leave the session there since the query is the thing that is running long, so we want the session to get back to MAIN_GROUP when it is done. However, if we use SWITCH_FOR_CALL when going to the SLOW_GROUP, it will switch back to the LOGIN_GROUP. Which is the trouble--LOGIN_GROUP is an unqueued group, so we don't get the desired session queueing.
    4) The solution must be fully automated without any DBA intervation or application code. We cannot use appliation code as this solution is intended for BI users working in tools that have direct data access. Thus prevents the use of DBMS_SESSION as you stated in your posts. How would we do that switching in an automated fashion without application code?
    5) We cannot put the DBMS_SESSION commands in a login trigger since that would switch groups to MAIN_GROUP and would again run the risk of queueing a session at login, which feels like a hung session to users and results in a bad user experience and help desk calls.
    Thanks!
