Specifying autoincrement on a field in an entity object declaratively

Hi,
I have a master-detail window where the detail entity has a composite key made up of m_id and d_id where m_id is a foreign key to the master table and d_id is the unique key to the detail table.
I have defined the detail entity object and checked the box for m_id and d_id as a primary key. When I create a new detail object using the create button that is available from the data control panel for the detail's view object it populates the m_id based on the currently selected master object. However since d_id needs to be populated as well.
Any ideas how I can do this declaratively in then entity object definition?
Cheers,
S

This can be done with programmatic VOs: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31974/bcadvvo.htm#sm0341
Sample: http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/#132
You can also opt to do this with a simple Java class and a data control based on it.

  • Updating non-persistent fields in an Entity Object

    Hi,
    I wanted to add a non-persistent field to an Entity Object to use as a temporary aggregate field for a detail entity. It appears that storing data in the field makes it look like the master entity has been updated even though the value cannot be saved in the data base. Is this the way it is supposed to work?
    I was trying to avoid putting invisible controls in the UI or creating "global" variables.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Best practice for linking fields from multiple entity objects

    I am currently transitioning from PHP to ADF. I'm looking for the best practice for linking data from multiple entity objects.
    Example:
    EO 'REQUESTS' has fields: req_id, name, dt, his_stat_id, her_stat_id
    EO 'STATUSES' has fields: stat_id, short_txt_descr
    'REQUESTS' is linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.his_status_id
    'REQUESTS' is also linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.her_status_id
    REQUESTS.his_status_id is independent of REQUESTS.her_status_id
    When I create a VO for REQUESTS, I want to display: REQUESTS.name, REQUESTS.dt, STATUSES.short_txt_descr (for his_stat_id), STATUS.short_txt_descr (for her_stat_id)
    What is the best practice for accomplishing this? It appears I could do it a few different ways:
    1. Create the REQUESTS VO with a LOV for his_stat_id and her_stat_id
    2. Create the REQUESTS VO with the join to STATUSES performed within the query for the VO. This would require joining on the STATUSES EO twice (his_stat_id, her_stat_id)
    3. I just started reading about View Links - would that somehow do what I'm looking for?
    I also need to be able to update his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr from a dropdown.
    Any suggestions on how to approach such a stupidly simple task?
    Using jDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0 if that makes a difference in the solution.
    Thanks ahead of time,
    CJ

    CJ,
    I vote for solution 1 as it's just your use case. As you said you what to update the his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr by a drop down. This is exactly the LOV solution.
    ViewLinks are used fro master detail navigation (which you don't do here) and Joining the data make it difficult to update (and you still need a LOV for the drop down box.

  • Is it possible to map the cmp fields of the entity bean with out dictionary

    Dear sirs,
    I have created the EJB project module and WEB Module. Now i have to map the CMP fields of the entity bean to the underlying table. Is it possible to map the cmp fields of the entity bean with out java dictionary? If yes how can we do that.
    I have got some error while mapping an EJB's CMP fields to the table through dictionary. I was actually intended to map 79 fields but it gives an error that more than 64 fields are not allowed while building the dictionary.
    1. Can you tell me what could be the possible reason?
    2. Is it possible to map the cmp fields of the entity bean with out java dictionary? If yes how can we do that.
    Kindly helo me,
    Sudheesh K S

    Hi,
    Sudheesh please check up if the below link helps,there are other ways of writing the persistent.xml for container managed entity bean.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/9b/f695f0c84acf46a4e0b31f69d8a9b7/frameset.htm, probably in the studio you cannot browse through tables not in  the java dictionary,but manually editing it may still solve the problem.
    Also here is another link that specifies the databases supported by J2EE Engine.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/66/a5283eeb47b40be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    The below link shows how to specify the database vendor and datasource
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/e1/67fc3ee241ba28e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    Hope you are able to solve the problem.
    Do let us know if you come up with the solution.

  • Entity Object's "addNewRow" Permission, how to implement?

    Hi,
    this is a generic question about an implementation strategy to be followed for ADF Authorization.
    I've been researching the definition of permissions at the entity object level, and successfully tested the 3 permission targets available: read, update, removeCurrentRow.
    However, I'd actually need the full set of permission targets for CRUD operations, which means that ADF lacks an "addNewRow" to secure row creation on EOs.
    What should be the strategy to implement that?
    Is it a planned feature so waiting till, say, 11g Release 2 should bring it to the table, or has it been left out by design and thus it just won't be added? In the latter case, how to actually implement it?
    I'd need to actually hide/disable the Create/CreateInsert button on my edit pages if the underlying EO does not allow new row creation for the current role. I gave a thought to EO's Custom Properties as a way to handle that extra permission flag, but is it a viable way? Can they be accessed through EL so that I can, say, use them directly in the Rendered/Disabled property of the button to regulate access?
    Or would you suggest another strategy altogether?
    Please share your ideas.
    thanks,
    RickyS

    Well, I can definitely see some benefits in having security at the model layer, at least in our scenario. In a complex app with many edit pages often dealing multiple times with the same EOs, having to specify a single set of policies on the EO itself and see it automatically implemented on every page seems a plus and a step ahead from 10g - not that I tried Security in 10g, but I know the approach. Seeing fields automatically become read-only or datacontrol operation buttons such as Delete become disabled without specifying anything on the page is cleaner and will speed up development a bit, too (for large numbers of pages that might be significant, on a small app it's probably irrelevant).
    Probably not as useful and powerful as model-driven lists, but still a welcome feature. You probably have a point about the double mainteinance, but that may be avoided if the BC layer security truly encompasses everything (e.g. if I can't rely on a "create" permissions, I'll certainly have to maintain additional code as well as additional BC data such as custom properties to deal with that, and this is even worse).
    Another point is that I might want to enable/disable functionality on the page via EL/backing bean based on BC permissions, and that seems useful. Being able to express a condition like "this EO is accessible" or "this attribute is accessible" is sometimes much superior to "user belongs to this role". It's better to decouple roles from the secured targets and just use the latter, IMHO. Especially becuse we'll likely won't have a fixed set of static roles defined in advance for all customers we'll deploy our webapp to.
    Just my 2 cents, anyway, you might end up being totally right :-)
    Cheers,
    RickyS

  • Error while deleting a row from the Entity Object

    Hi OAF Guys,
    i am unable to delete the newly created row from the entity object.
    let me explain my scenario.
    1. i have a table of which some of the columns are mandatory.
    2. I am writing the code in the validateEntity to check wether the user really enter anything into the fields.
    3. My problem is, when the user creates row and wanted to delete the row without entering any details, the validate entity of the EO gets fired which will not allows to delete the row.
    Is there any workaround for this problem.
    Regards,
    Nagesh Manda.

    Hi Tapash,
    I am very sorry for not providing you the complete details of my scenario. Here i am explaining
    1. what code you have placed while creating the row and in validation method on EOImpl.
    while creating a new row i am initializing the primary key of the EO with the sequence value.
    2.When you say, you are unable to delete the row, are you getting a error message ? if yes, custom message or fwk error ?
    its not the fwk error, its the custom message which wrote in my validateEntity method of EO to check whether the user had entered all the necesary columns or not.
    3.How are you trying to delete the row ?
    while the user clicks on the delete switcher i am getting the primary key of the row and searching for the row in the vo and finally deleting it.
    The problem arises when the user creates a row, and later doesnt want to enter the details and delete it. Here while deleting the row the validateEntity method of the EO gets fired and doesnt allow me to do so :(.
    Any way appreciate your help tapash.

    Nagesh Manda.

  • Uix two view-objects on one entity-object synchronize

    Hi All
    I want to add some uix pages to an old project using ADF UIX and Business Components.
    I have an entity object to a table witch about 50 fields.
    Now I create two view objects due to a better performance. One witch seven attributes for the overwiew and one with all attributes for the detail page.
    They are related via a view link.
    I create the overview as a read-only-table and the detail-page as an input-form.
    The proplem is that the synchronization don't work. The detail page shows the first dataset ever.
    Has anyone a solution or a tip where I can found that?
    Is where a performance problem if I use one view-object for both pages?
    Thanks in advance
    Roger

    Use custom DataAction for the first page:
    package controller;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataAction;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionContext;
    public class Class1 extends DataAction
      protected void validateModelUpdates(DataActionContext actionContext)
         //super.validateModelUpdates(actionContext);
          // put you custom validation here
    }http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/10g/ADFBindingPrimer/index.html#usingdataaction

  • Possible?Multi-Entity View Object with one Entity Object that is Read-only.

    I know this sounds crazy, but I would like to create a multi-entity view object, where one entity object is based on a table in my application (we'll call it "Users", which basically stores the primary key for the person from the institutional people database), and the other table is a entity object based on a view of the institutional people database table (read only access), which we can call "People".
    I know that since no updates will be done to the People table, it really should be a read-only View Object, but I would lose the ability to sort on attributes like Last Name, Hire date, etc, since those would be transient attributes in my ViewObject for the Users. By having People as an entity object, I can then create a multi entity view object and have the ability to join Users to People and be able to sort on the above mentioned fields (like Last Name).
    The problem is that when I use the JDev (I'm currently using 10.1.2.1) AppModule BC4J tester, when I click on the multi-entity view object that I added to the AppModule it gives me an error:
    oracle.jbo.RowCreateException) JBO-25017: Error while creating a new entity row for People.
    ----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
    (java.lang.InstantiationException) null
    I have tried to change all the attributes to updateable in my entity object, but no create method, and I have tried to make them all read-only, but no effect, I get the same error (probably because the People view is read-only in my schema).
    Is there a way to change the entity object so that it will not try to create a new row when it runs the Tester? So that the multi entity view object behaves more like a view link, but gives me the added bonus of being able to sort on the Last Name column from the People table?
    Thanks for any help on this subject...at worst, I will have to use the view link method to get the job accomplished, but it would be "cooler" if this would work!
    Jeremy.

    Steve, thanks for your quick response to my question.
    To answer your questions, I was trying to create the Multi-entity View Object to give me more flexibility when working with my User table, and my People view. The flexibility I desired was that I would be able to sort my Users based on attributes in the People view. This is not possible when the there is only one Entity in my VO, and the People view data are all transient attributes, because they are not in the SQL statement.
    Ultimately, after working with one of my colleagues, we decided to use the approach that you mentioned by creating a read-only VO with the SQL query we want to display to the user (contains both User and People data fields), and then use a different ViewObject when performing other actions on the User Table (such as inserts/updates/deletes). By using the setWhereClauseParam() method in the handleLifeCycle() for the JSP page, we should be able to navigate between the different View Objects, so that the user does not see any difference.
    Thanks! Oh, and by the way, I have read your article you included before, and I have used it many times before to tune my View Objects! Thanks!

  • Help: 'JBO-26080: Error while selecting entity object' on RefreshDataSource

    Hi all,
    The Problem:
    My page throws out a JBO-26080 error on the RefreshDataSource Tag. This only happens the second time it needs to be refreshed, i.e. the second time the form is submitted to processRequest.jsp (see Background Info below). In my testing I have found that it is definately the RefreshDataSource tag.
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    Background Info:
    I have 2 JSP's, 1 (report.jsp) that displays a table and 1 (processReport.jsp) that runs a stored procedure, implemented as a method in the Application Module, to select data for the table.
    The method in the application module:
    public void doCurrencyCalc()
    CallableStatement st=null;
    try // 1
    String stmt = "BEGIN CONVERT_MONEY(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?);END;";
    int nParam = 3;
    System.out.println("** SQL = " + stmt);
    DBTransaction tr = getDBTransaction();
    st=tr.createCallableStatement(stmt,DBTransaction.DEFAULT);
    st.setString(1, getWB());
    System.out.println(" > WB = " + getWB());
    st.setLong(2, getKpi());
    System.out.println(" > Kpi = " + getKpi());
    for(int i=0; i<6; i++)
    if(getWbSel(i+1)) st.setString(nParam,String.valueOf(getWbNo(i+1)));
    else st.setString(nParam,null);
    nParam++;
    } // for i
    st.executeUpdate();
    System.out.println("** Calculation Complete");
    } // try 1
    catch(SQLException s)
    throw new JboException(s);

    Michael:
    'JBO-26080' means that something was wrong with the SQL statement issued to get the data for an entity object.
    You need the detail exception stack trace to see what went wrong at the JDBC level. Take a look to see if the exception reported on your browser has detail exception info on it.
    If not, you should run your middle tier app with diagnostic turned on. This will output lots of diag info on console and you should get the detail exception in it. Please take a look at the detail exception. If you can't make sense out of the exception, post it to this thread.
    To turn on diagnostic, you need to specify
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console
    as one of the JVM switches.
    If you're invoking your app (middle-tier app) from command line,
    include -Djbo.debugoutput=console as in
    java.exe -Djbo.debugoutput=console ...
    If you're running your app from within JDev:
    1. Select the project.
    2. Do right mouse click and select "Project Settings..."
    3. On the Settings dialog, select Configurations/Runner.
    4. In the righthand side pane, you should see a textbox for "Java
    Options". Please add the following JVM switch:
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console
    Then, rerun. The run command should include
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console as in
    "D:\JDev9i\jdk\bin\javaw.exe" -Djbo.debugoutput=console -classpath ...
    Thanks.

  • Passing SQL Server identity attributes values into adf entity objects

    Hi all.
    I'm using Jdeveloper 10g for developing an ADF Swing application based on MS SQL Server DB.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to pass SQL Server identity attributes values into the correspondent attrributes of adf entity objects, like we do with Oracle DB Sequence.
    The problem is that i should somhow implement cascade deleting of detail view objects, so i should use the composition association. But since i cant fill the primary key attribute with appropriate value (that is actually a ms sql server db sequence value) i always get
    the following exception: oracle.jbo.InvalidOwnerException: JBO-25030 as i try to create a new pair of master/detail objects.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex.

    The approach is good. but i still dont understand how i can address the sql server db sequence (identity field) programmatically...
    The code offered
    SequenceImpl sequence = new SequenceImpl("PRODUCTS_SEQ",getDBTransaction());
    setProdId(sequence.getSequenceNumber());
    generates something like this:
    select deq_name.nextval from dual
    but this syntax works for oracle only... and not for sql server...

  • Common Entity Object

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6
    This is my issue; I have a viewObject which contains three (3) fields that I need to use in ALL my EntityObjects. I started by just creating a transient attributes and populating those 3 fields with a viewAccessor and then using them on my EO without problems. The thing is that for each EO I need to create those transient attributes and I believe that there have to be more effective and cleaner solutions.
    What can I do to have those three attributes accessible and available for all the EO on my appModule? Those three attributes are coming from a query in DB and mostly contains information about the person who is logged in.
    I wanted to implement a solution; something like an Entity Object (global) with those three attributes and the instantiating it in the rest of my EO and call something like myEO.getMyVariableOne, myEO.getMyVariableTwo and myEO.getMyVariableThree but that is not possible. So the other option is creating the view object and instantiating that viewObject on my EO.
    But what do you think is the best practice???
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Again,
    I forgot to say that all my EO extend MyCustomEOImpl. Do you think that is a good practice to import my VO (which I am just using to retrieve my fields and not for UI) and set the variables in MyCustomEOImpl so all my EO can access them via inheritance???
    What other options would you guys recommend?
    Thank you

  • Problem to give default value in entity object using query

    hi,
    i have one entity object and i want to set default value of attribute like division which is based on employee code.
    entity object based on table leavedetail and using refrence table employee_hdr(empcode ,division).
    so how can i set default value of division attribute which is based on empcode attribute using SQL

    well,
    yes user, fetish nailed correctly.
    make some viewlink.
    something like says as example.
    department vo
    employee vo
    make viewlinks between those vo's
    important thing: exposed then source and destination accesor.
    use groovy :
    go to employee vo - create Department name field ( as transiest)
    use this statement default value expersion type.
    DepartmentView1.DepartmentName
    it will get the value. check over.
    so this example well suits to your scenario.
    i hope this will helps you.

  • Creating Views on multiple entity-objects

    Dear Forum,
    Is it possible to make associations and lookups based on multiple entity-objects.
    I made a custom view, say view1 based on two entity-objects, say entity1 and entity2.
    I used some fields from entity1 and some from entity2. There's a 1 to 1 association between the index of entity1 and entity2.
    Now I want to make a master-detail between entity1 and view1. I tried to make links and associations, but that didn't work.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Arjen

    Arjen,
    I am a bit confused by what it is you need. It appears you may have Entity Object and View Objects mixed up. Entity Objects are one-to-one with database tables. So, for every table one Entity Object, and the other way around. Associations are, pretty much, one-to-one with foreign keys on the database. So, if two tables have a foreign key between them, the two Entity Objects will have an Association between them. In that respect, Entity Objects and Associations are usually 'strictly defined' by the database model.
    The layer of View Objects and View Links is where you 'get design control' in the Business Components arena. A View Object can be based on zero, one or more Entity Objects. Viewlink, defining 'Master-Detail' relationships between View Objects (and NOT Entity Objects!!) can but don't have to be based on Entity Associations (i.e. foreign keys), but can be based on any attribute in the 'Master' view to any attribute in the 'Detail' view.
    In this respect, your statement that you want to "make a master-detail between entity1 and view1" makes no sense. It sounds like you need to create a View2, and then make a View Link between View1 and View2.
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

  • Best way to validate multiple entity objects with each other

    I have the following scenario.
    There is one entity object with the following fields.
    Name
    Start Date
    End Date
    My requirement is to validate the dates in the entity do not overlap.
    What is the best way to achieve the same.
    This validation should be fired when we commit, since the user should be allowed to change the dates freely between entities.(Validation should not kick off when the current row changes)
    Thanks

    For this to achieve there is a concept called Effective Dated Entity Objects in Oracle ADF.
