Specifying Request Variable's Date Format in LTS Content Filter

All,
We are trying to use a Dashboard prompt to set a request variable (session) to filter a logical table source. When I use either a DATE or TIMESTAMP format and default it properly in the Initialization Block the filter works properly. As soon as I change the value by using the prompt, it tries to compare the base column to the value of the variable in the following manner:
SOURCE_COLUMN = REQUEST_VARIABLE
DATE: HIER_DATE = '2010-02-03'
TIMESTAMP: HIER_DATE = '2010-02-03 12:15:45'
As soon as I try to insert the conversion functions TIMESTAMP or DATE, which work fine if I do the filter in the Answers report itself, it won't compile correctly, ex:
SOURCE_COLUMN = DATE REQUEST_VARIABLE
SOURCE_COLUMN = TIMESTAMP REQUEST_VARIABLE
Anyone know of a workaround or if I'm doing something wrong here? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Josh

eejimkos,
We're using a request variable, not a presentation to be exact; we have tried both drop down and calendar - neither work. I'm not quite sure what you're asking about the target data. It is a different column in the same table; we're trying to filter a hierarchy down using the effective_to and effective_from dates with < and > respectively. Finally, our nls language default date format is set as 'DD-MON-YY", which is the way we want it, but for some reason when using the variable it's coming through as 'YYYY-MM-DD' if the base column is of type DATE and 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS' if it's TIMESTAMP.
Thanks,
Josh

    I got the following error when try to write data to a flat file using file adapter. I think it's because my variable's date format doesn't match what's in the xml schema. • Af:table filter date format : task-flow navigation issue

    hi
    When trying to use the date format configured on the Entity Object, with Format Type as Simple Date and Format as "dd-MM-yyyy", there seems to be a problem when using task-flows.
    The approach involves an explicitly configured attributeValues binding to use in f:validator and af:convertDateTime components in the af:inputDate in the filter facet, as discussed in the forum thread "af:table filter date format"
    at af:table filter date format
    I used JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 to create the example application
    in http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/TableFilterDateFormatIssueApp-v0.03.zip
    - The page filterEmp.jspx shows expected behaviour, the filter uses the configured date format and there is no problem when navigating to another page and back.
    see the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/CtQ9rsVFH3k
    - The page menuBTFPage.jspx allows for some navigation after using the filter resulting in the filter showing a date in the wrong format, using scenario (sc1)
    -- (sc1-a) : run menuBTFPage.jspx
    -- (sc1-b) : on "menu-btf : menu", click the "do go-filter-emp-btf" link
    -- (sc1-c) : on "filter-emp-btf : filterEmpFragment", filter on HireDate using "10-03-2005"
    -- (sc1-d) : click the "do goReturnSuccess" button
    -- (sc1-e) : back on "menu-btf : menu", click the "do go-filter-emp-btf" link again
    -- (sc1-f) : back on "filter-emp-btf : filterEmpFragment", see the HireDate filter value in the wrong format as "2005-03-10"
    -- (sc1-g) : click the "do goReturnSuccess" button again, which results in an error "The date is not in the correct format."
    see the screencast at http://www.screencast.com/t/ORHauBd3oQ
    questions:
    - (q1) Can the behaviour in scenario (sc1) be reproduced?
    - (q2) Why is the filter value in the wrong date format in step (sc1-f)?
    - (q3) What can be done to have the filter value consistently in the configured date format, so that errors as in step (sc1-g) can be avoided?
    many thanks

    hi
    First a short summary of relevant aspects of service request 3-2190488381:
    - development has reviewed bug 10193260
    - development identified some code where a pattern was not applied and started fixing the problem
    - out of the blue, development asked "Will clearing out the filter field completely when moving out of ataskflow be an acceptable behavior ?"
    - I pointed out some concerns (even in a phone call with development), but development did not see any alternative not "perceived to be very risky because of the current design", so the question whether the clearing-all-filter-fields approach would be acceptable became superfluous.
    - following this, bug 10193260 suddenly became an enhancement request (for reasons I still don't understand)
    - a workaround was suggested (for behaviour not perceived as a bug), "Clearing the search fields during taskflow exit in the backing bean (in the app)." for which I also received a modified version of my example application TableFilterDateFormatIssueApp-v0.04.zip with an implementation of the suggested workaround
    As an exercise to try an understand the suggested workaround (an because my example application seemed to have been modified using the currently yet-to-be-released JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0) I re-implemented it in the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/TableFilterDateFormatIssueApp-v0.05.zip
    It has a filter-emp-workaround-btf task-flow with a method-call activity on a managed-bean method, responsible for clearing the search fields, resulting in behaviour where the error "The date is not in the correct format." does not occur,
    as can be seen in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/Nq7TkkRQ
      public void clearFilterFields()
        BindingContainer vBindingContainer =
          BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
        DCBindingContainer vDCBindingContainer = (DCBindingContainer)vBindingContainer;
        DCDataControl vDCDataControl = vDCBindingContainer.getDataControl();
        ApplicationModule vApplicationModule = vDCDataControl.getApplicationModule();
        ViewObject vViewObject = vApplicationModule.findViewObject("EmployeesVOVI");
        ViewCriteriaManager vViewCriteriaManager = vViewObject.getViewCriteriaManager();
        vViewCriteriaManager.clearViewCriterias();
        vViewObject.clearCache();
      }Because the managed-bean method requires access to the ADF Model binding layer to get to the View Object instance used for the filtered table, the method-call activity has a page element configured in DataBindings.cpx referring to the same usageId as the page element for the page fragment showing the filtered table. So that both the method-call and view activity depend on one and the same Binding Container (e.i. PageDef file).
    The method-call activity, responsible for clearing the search fields, would need to be called before each task-flow-return activity.
    As there can be multiple view activities with multiple filtered tables in a bounded task-flow, would that result in multiple method-call activities responsible for clearing search fields (all to be called before each task-flow-return activity)?
    It looks like a more general/generic approach is desirable for the suggested workaround to be feasible.
    - (q5) Does the suggested workaround imply (as bug 10193260 is not a bug) that all bounded task-flows with filtered tables should implement it to avoid errors about formatting?
    thanks

  • Presentation Variables Date Format

    Hi,
    I have a direct sql request that uses date presentation variables via a dashboard prompt:
    Direct SQL:
    select id, customer

    If I enter startdate '31/03/2013 00:00:00' in the dashboard prompt selection:

    'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'
    The database is in date format DD-MON-YYY, this results in error ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    can anyone help with where the date format should be set?
    Thanks

    There are different levels of users on this forum so you need to be more specific and provide examples to novice users....I want user to think on given hints and fix by himself instead of detailed with examples, this would help user to learn and think in new dimensions instead of depending on any one.
    Sometimes I'll be responding more detail based on their registered date with OTN and # posts posted.
    in your case my hint not fired!! so no full points ;)

  • Date format problem - dashboard prompt - presentation variable

    Hi,
    I've created a dashboard prompt on a date and defined a presentation variable.
    In my report I make use of the following object : TimeStampAdd(SQL_TSI_MONTH,-12,date '@{pv_afw_start_date}' )
    My report works when making use of a drop down list, but when I want to make use of a calendar to select from, I receive the following error
    *A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 46047] Datetime value 17/11/2009 from 17/11/2009 does not match the specified format. (HY000)*
    Is there a difference in the date formats used by the prompt type (drop down list, calendar, ..)? And how you can align them..

    Timestampadd ask for a timestamp not for a date.
    Check here :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12103_01/books/admintool/admintool_SQL14.html
    The syntax is :
    TimestampAdd(SQL_TSI_DAY, 3, TIMESTAMP '2000-02-27 14:30:00')You may have to change your prompt to retrieve a timestamp.
    Where do you use your formula ? In a formula column ?

  • Date format in Bex Output should be changed while using with Text Variable

    I am using a Bex Query where have defined a Text Variable with replacement path. So whatever Date user enters in the selection screen variable (Input Variable) the same date appears in the report description.
    For Ex: If user enters 30.04.2012 in Char Variable/Input Variable before executing the report, so once he executes the report the same date appears on report description like "ABC Analysis as on 20120430". Is also changes the report description whenever user changes the date in selection screen variable.
    My requirement is......Date format should be come as 30.04.2012 (DD.MM.YYYY) instead of 20120430 (YYYYMMDD) in report description.
    Guys could you please help me out to achieve the desired output.
    Rgds,
    Ritu

    Please check if you have selected Replace with Key in that text variable.
    Instead of that select External characteristic value key.
    This should help you in giving the desired output.

    i want something like "the date being used is @{indate} for month end"
    Also date format needs to be dd.mm.yyyy ... its currenty being displayed as yyyy/mm/dd .. I dont want to add the columns in my report and hide them as there seems to be a performance lag when i do that.

    Here you go...
    I tried in my machine and its working great..
    In Answers--> in Criteria TAB, In the column's fx use below formula...
    case when 1=1 then EVALUATE('TO_CHAR(%1,%2)' as varchar(20),date '@{pv_date}{1998-07-05}','dd.mm.yyyy') else "ORE Time Dim"."Mnth Name" end
    pv_date is the presentation variable and
    For "ORE Time Dim"."Mnth Name" use any varchar datatype column...
    Hope it helpful...

  • Dates Format in Promts using Session Variables

    Hi Experts,
    I have an issue in controlling date format in prompts using session variable which I am using to set default value.
    By default date format is timestamp E.g '2010-12-19 12:00:00 AM'.
    As per requriement(s) I customized the date format in Reports as 19-Dec-2010 and I saved it as "System Wide Default for <Date Column Name> "
    So, I got desired format in Reports and Date Prompts.
    Now, I need to set a default value in Date Prompt. So, in RPD I created a Session Variable which returned me date in
    DD-MON-YYYY format. Using follwing SQL :
    SELECT REPLACE(CONVERT(VARCHAR(11), Getdate (), 106), ' ', '-') AS [DD-Mon-YYYY]
    But in reports takes this value as string and not Datetime. So i got an error message.
    A datetime value was expected (received "19-Dec-2010").
    If i do not use above SQL to CONVERT date then default date in prompt get displayed as timestamp format and give me desired results but Formatting looks very odd in prompt
    Is this a way so I can persist the [DD-Mon-YYYY] Formatting for default value which comes using variable and still run the report.
    Above problem also exist vice versa that is if i SET that session variable and pass the datetime value to server. But there i guess I can use ToDate or some Casting in RPD column expression to handle that. Tell me if i am right ?
    Thanks
    Saurabh

    That almost works. I had to adjust the syntax to the following...and then there are other issues doing this.
    select cust_no, name,'@{session.currentUser}' from customersMy write-back SQL is this:
    UPDATE customers SET NAME='@{c1}',LAST_EDITED_BY='@{c2}' WHERE CUST_NO=@{c0}But I don't want to display the cust_no column to the user. So I hide it in the UI. But if I do that I get the below error during write-back. Apparently sometimes when you hide a column on a direct query (numeric maybe?) the value doesn't transfer over to the write-back. If that's the case, this won't work for me. Hmm...
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P

  • Date Format for the input Variable

    Hi all,
    I got an issue with Date format we enter in the input variable screen for the BEx Analyzer.
    We have given a format of MM/DD/YYYY. But when the users accessed the report, it is not taking the format of the variable i.e MM/DD/YYYY but it is taking the format of the users system.
    If the user's system format is DD/MM/YYYY, it is accepting the input inthe same format only.
    Why this strange behaviour?
    My questions are
    Is the input for BEx system specific? or variable specific?
    Rgrds
    Kumar

    Hi,
    I think it is user specific... you can maintain the date format for user ....
    Go to SU01 transaction or.. Go to SYSTEM -> User Profile -> Own data
    Here in defaults tab you can see the date formet for user...
    Hope this helps...

  • Date format is changing in presentation variable

    Hello,
    I have a problem with date stored in presentation variable.
    I have simple prompt with calendar field (default date value is setted from repository or session variable to current date). Selected date is stored in PP_DATE presentation variable.
    I have simple report with title to show the content of variable PP_DATE.
    And now the problem.
    When I navigate to dashboard page with this report I will get date from PP_DATE variable in some format (there is difference when I use repository or session variable). After I will push the start button I will get another date format from PP_DATE variable.
    Screenshots are stored and described in this PDF: [PDF with screenshots|https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B2LOPOBteIShMDRmYTJlYTItNmYyZC00ODdkLWE5NjktNzI1N2RlNWMwZjBk]
    There is difference between session and repository variable. When I use repository variable I will get 'TIMESTAMP .......' from PP_DATE variable, which is the default initializer in repository variable manager. I tried to delete default initializer, but I is automatically added after saving changes.
    When is the default value of prompt setted from session variable I will get another format of date from PP_DATE variable which refers to DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT = "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss.mss" (from NQSConfig.ini). I have changed DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT from standard value "yyyy/mm/dd hh:mi:ss" to "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss.mss" because I am reading some data from excel, where are dates stored in MSSQL format. But this is not the reason of my problem. I have the same problem also with standard DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT.
    The result of this strange behaviour is that I am getting errors when I am doing some calculations (for example TimeStampDiff) with PP_DATE variable. I am getting error when I am navigating to dashboard page. Everything is ok after I will push the start button.
    Do you have some tips?
    Thank you

    1. error, this is because of default date(using repository variable) used in prompt..

    3. showing variable in title list..
    we'll go through each issue..
    because, its' messed up..I think that everywhere is the same problem. So solving issue number 1 will solve my other problems.
    "1. error, this is because of default date(using repository variable) used in prompt.. "
    I want to use date prompt with default date value (from repository or session variable) and then use pp_date presentation variable from this prompt to filter my results.
    I would like to use repos. or session variables, I dont want to write some select to fill default date value in each prompt.
    I tried to change one date in initialization block from "trunc(sysdate, 'DD')" to "to_char(sysdate, 'YYYY-MM-DD')" because it is the same format as DATE_DISPLAY_FORMAT = "yyyy-mm-dd" in NQSConfig.ini
    And now it seems to be working now.
    I can use repository var. as default date value in my prompt and use date variable pp_date to filter my results. Report return result after navigation on it and after pushing Go button.
    Can you confirm me that date format in initialization block must be the same as DATE_DISPLAY_FORMAT = "yyyy-mm-dd" in NQSConfig.ini?
