Specifying the Character Width or Height of a font

I have a Flex SDK 4.5.x and ActionScript 3.0 application that I am working on that contains Label, TextField and RichEditableText fields.  In our application, I need to be able to specify the font and point size that will be used to display each of the above.  This part is easy and not an issue.  The problem we are experiencing is a secondary requirement that I must be able to change the average width or height of a character from what the font / point size default is.  For instance, if I have a Text display object configured with Arial TTF and a point size of 16, the default average character height and width are 0.222 and 0.121 inches respectively.  I need to be able to change the font height and/or width of the default average character resulting in a Text display object that is correctly stretched in the respective height / width direction.

Not that I know of. Searching for "prefWidth" in the CSS documentation yields no results. JavaFX layout is typically not managed by CSS, but by FXML and/or Java. You can set the prefHeight and prefWidth as attributes in the FXML file:
<ListView fx:id="..." prefWidth="130" prefHeight="100" ... />or in Java:
ListView<String> listView = new ListView<String>();
listView.setPrefWidth(130);
listView.setPrefHeight(100);

  • How do i resize videos from my iPhone into iMovie so that they are the correct width and height as a standard youtube is ????

    Hey guys i have recorded some videos on my iphone and i have synced them to my mac.
    i would now like to edit them using imovie, the only problem i have is that when i open them in imovie, quicktime, vlc etc etc, they all playback at the same width and height as the iphone screen.
    now is there any way using imovie that i would be able to resize the video to make it larger so that the video is the correct height and width of a video that you would see on youtube.
    If this makes sense and if there is anyway of doing please let me know as i have tried looking for a shortcut or a plug in everywhere and i just cant seem to do it.

  • How do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?

    how do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?
    Without free hand creating the sizing?

    Assuming by "interactive text boxes" you mean form fields; in Acrobat, make a form field, then copy it and paste. (GIve the pasted copy a different name so they don't genetate the same field feedback.) Now you have two fields of the exact same size. Shift-click or marquee-drag to select both, then right-click and choose a command from the Align, Distribute or Center menu.

  • How do i get the max width and height?

    Hey
    I want to get the max width and height, so my desktoppanes size can be set automatically.
    I know i should use getBounds but i cant find a concrete example on goole, on how to use it.
    Can someone point me in the right direction, with an example?

    Ok, assuming you want to get the screen resolution, i.e. 1024 x 768.
    You will need these imports:
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.Toolkit;and this line of code:
    Dimension myScreen =  Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize() ;You can now use myScreen.width and myScreen.height to access the height and width of your screen's resolution. (width = 1024, height = 768 in my case)
    Hope this helps,

  • How can specify the max width of uix pages in a browser

    If I have 7 tabs in my jheadstart application. This
    works fine on a 1200X1000 resolution but on a
    1024X720 resolution the users have a scrollbar
    how can i specify the max resolution in jheadstart

    Tnx Steven "God" Davelaar ;-)
    Edwin:
    When you are about to edit the tab-bars (any level),
    make sure you disable the tabbar generation (service-
    level). Each uix-page calls this tabbar with a parameter
    for selected-tab (0 to n). If you edit the *tabbar.uit
    and for example, merge 2 tabbars into 1 (with a level 2
    globalheader for further navigation), don't just delete
    the code in the uit-file, but simply set one of them to
    rendered=false (instead of
    data:rendered=groupname@infoTable:something). This will
    not screw up the selected-tab settings on all pages where
    the selected tabbar is on the right (higher number) of
    your merged one.
    And have fun with UIX (I know you will)

    Is it a Warning or a Error?
    If it is WARNING it is a known issue with the logging.
    The charset you set should work fine.

  • How do I return the page width and height as a text variable?

    Hi
    I'm trying to create a media box for use in job to return information in the slug area. I have a script that will return the username of the computer as a text variable but I would also like to return the height and width in mm as a text variable too. Does anyone know how to this please?
    Thanks

    Hi Vamitul
    Thank you for your response. I very new to scripting so I hope you'll bare with me.
    How do I apply your code to indesign please? At the moment I have a script that returns the computer user name(an online script i found called 'addCustomVariables_103.jsx') that's going to be one of the variables I use in my media box. This lives in the startup scripts folder but i'm guessing I can't just add your code to it as yours will require an open document to return any values. How would I apply your code so it works in inDesign? Ideally i could do with this automatically adding the text variables at startup as I'll be installing this on several machines.
    Thanks once again for your assistance.

  • Equal spacing between the images of uniformed height but variable widths with AS3?

    I have to figure out how to insert images with variable width with equal spacing intervals.
    Here is where I got so far:
    function buildScroller(imageList:XMLList):void{
              trace("build Scroller");
              for (var item:uint = 0; item<imageList.length();item++) {
                        var thisOne:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
      var currentX = 90;
                        var spaceBetween = 20;
      var currentImageWidth = Number(imageList[item].attribute("width"));
    thisOne.x = currentX;
    thisOne.x = (currentImageWidth+spaceBetween)*item;
    I can see that my images are being spread out on the page and if I change the number in var spaceBetween it affects the spacing. However the spacing is not uniformed. I can not figure why. Perhaps because I can not properly retrieve the image widths from the xml file. I assigned a width in xml file in the following manner:
    <images>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/A-illuminatorUpLit_xsm.jpg" title="UpDownGlowingVase" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="132"/>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/ATI-1-bgpA_xsm.jpg" title="CoolingReflections" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="117"/>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/ATI-2-zenC_xsm.jpg" title="OrchidsUnderGlass" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="263"/>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/SilverBloom_RGB_xsm.jpg" title="SilverBloom" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="148"/>
    </images>
    they correspond to actual image width. I do however want them to be scaled at 50% of their actual width.
    Any ideas if I am missing a line of code or don't call out images properly?

    Thank You for your reply.
    I tried to implement it but images are still jambled together.
    Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I specify the actual width of the image in the XML file but then define it as a scaled value in the code later on (11th line at the bottom of the code):
        mc.height = 110;
    This height definition will just give the width proportional to the height. Does it mean that I can not specify the height as it is?
    Also can be there a mistake in the XML file? I just assigned the width number as it is in pixels for each image. Here is an example:
    <images>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/RosesGallasGalore_RGB_xsm.jpg" title="RosesGallasGalore" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="131"/>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/SangriaBling_RGB_xsm.jpg" title="SangriaBling" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="233"/>
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/SilverBloom_RGB_xsm.jpg" title="SilverBloom" url="http://www.888acolyte.com" width="148"/>
    </images>
    There were no errors in the output or compiler errors tabs.

  • CS5 ScriptUI dialogs open with no minimum width or height

    Hi There,
    Running my script as ScriptUI in CS5 seems to cause a strange issue with window drawing / resizing.  I am unable to reproduce the issue in CS6 or CC.  In some cases, when I run the script targeting CS5 from within ESTK, the initial window panel will appear very small and requires a user to resize it until it becomes totally visible.  Also, when I spawn a new dialog window from within a button's click handler, the dialog displays, but appears to have no specified or determined width or height.  As a workaround, I set the "resizing" for the dialog to true even though I would prefer not to let the user resize this particular dialog.  I tried setting preferredSize on almost all the elements so that I could minimize the use of automatic layout, but that didn't seem to do the trick.
    Has anybody encountered this?  Does CS5 require that the Bounds property is set?  It doesn't seem to be the case for CS6+
    If anyone has encountered this type of UI issue in CS5, any help or suggestions to fix would be appreciated.
    Thank you for your time and help!
    --Arie

    You can't "minimize the use of automatic layout". Either you use it, either you don't.
    I can't speak for others, but when using layout.layout(true), i often have to do many tries until "it behaves as i wanted to" (which actually means: until i find how things should be written).
    There are few rules though, and one is that preferredSize is irreliable, better use minimumSize and maximumSize (can't remember where i read that but i did, probably in the Javascript Tools Guide).
    What i do all the time is create a big group (in the exemple below it is called 'content') within the window and specify min or max dimensions for that group, not the window itself.
    Also, if you dont want the window to be resized, just set its creation property 'resizeable' to false.
    var win = new Window("palette", "myScript", undefined, {resizeable: false});
    win.alignChildren = ['left', 'top'];
    win.margins=8;
    win.content = win.add("group{ orientation:'column', margins: 0, spacing: 5, alignChildren:['left', 'top'],\
                                                " /* more stuff here */  + "\
    win.content.minimumSize = [500,300];
    win.layout.layout(true);
    win.layout.resize();
    win.show();
    If this doesnt help, please provide a bit of your code. I have CS5.5 and never encountered your issue.
    Xavier.

  • Java returning incorrect values for width and height of a Tiff image

    I have some TIFF images (sorry, I cannot post them b/c of there confidential nature) that are returning the incorrect values for the width and height. I am using Image.getWidth(null) and have tried the relevant methods from BufferedImage. When I open the same files in external viewers (Irfanview, MS Office Document Imaging) they look fine and report the "correct" dimensions. When I re-save the files, my code works fine. Obviously, there is something wrong with the files, but why would the Java code fail and not the external viewers? Is there some way I can detect file problems?
    Here is the code, the relevant section is in the print() routine.

    Figured it out. The files have a different vertical and horizontal resolutions. In this case the horizontal resolution is 200 DPI and the vertical is 100 DPI. The imgage width and height values are based on those resolution values. I wrote a section of code to take care of the problem (at least for TIFF 6.0)
       private void setPageSize(int pageNum) throws IOException
          IIOMetadata imageMetadata = _reader.getImageMetadata(pageNum);
          //Get the IFD (Image File Directory) which is the root of all the tags
          //for this image. From here we can get all the tags in the image.
          TIFFDirectory ifd = TIFFDirectory.createFromMetadata(imageMetadata);
          double xPixles = ifd.getTIFFField(256).getAsDouble(0);
          double yPixles = ifd.getTIFFField(257).getAsDouble(0);
          double xRes = ifd.getTIFFField(282).getAsDouble(0);
          double yres = ifd.getTIFFField(283).getAsDouble(0);
          int resUnits = ifd.getTIFFField(296).getAsInt(0);
          double imageWidth = xPixles / xRes;
          double imageHeight = yPixles / yres;
          //if units are in CM convert ot inches
          if (resUnits == 3)
             imageWidth = imageWidth * 0.3937;
             imageHeight = imageHeight * 0.3937;
          //convert to pixles in 72 DPI
          imageWidth = imageWidth * 72;
          imageHeight = imageHeight * 72;
          setImgWidth((int) Math.round(imageWidth));
          setImgHeight((int) Math.round(imageHeight));
          setImgAspectRatio(imageWidth / imageHeight);
       }

  • How to change the column width in Smartforms..?

    Hi All..
    I need to change the column width in a smartform.
    The requirement has been mentioned as follows...
    Adjust the column width of the following columns:
    MATERIAL: 14 char
    DESCRIPTION: 20 char
    How to perform this..??
    Where can i find the column width of various columns of a smartform..???
    Please Help me...
    Regards
    Pavan

    In the SMART Forms, you would have created a Table object and specified the line width and divided that into no. of columns that you want, you have to mandatorily specify the width of each column so that total of column width will be equal to that of the line width.
    When you double click on the Table object, you can TABLE tab on the right side. If you can't see the line / columns details, click on the DETAILS button.
