Speedit kext & hardware Monitor 3.6

I love the fact that Increw developed "speedit" CPU temperature monitor kext and now Marcel Bresnik has incorporated its use into his great Hardware Monitor program BUT I just realized that the "kextload" command only loads the kernal extension temporarily and NOT at every startup so that HM can read the sensor.
Can one of you smart guys out there tell me is there is an "elegant" way of having that kext load every boot so HM can automatically use it all the time?
(by elagant I mean not just putting the commands into a shell sctipt that asks for a password every boot)
There's gotta be a way, isn't there?
TIA,
Peter

Well here's what I know so far. I tried using the sensor with HM and yes its great until you reboot.
So then I tried this...
copy speedit.kext to /System/Library/Extensions
sudo chown -R root:wheel speedit.kext
load the kext
$sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/speedit.kext
Optional - rebuilt the kext cache:
$kextcache -k /System/Library/Extentions
However the kextcache isn't getting rebuilt and so I continually have to reliad the kext to get HM to work.
Can someone take a look at what I'm doind and tell whats is wrong?
TIA,
Peter

  • CPU speed up and down in Hardware Monitor...is this normal?

Just downloaded the newest version of Hardware Monitor, and the CPU graph is bouncing constantly between 2000 and 2667 mHz. Is this normal?
None of the temperatures shown seem abnormal...CPU cores are all between 30 and 33 degrees C, the stock 512mb RAM modules are the hottest things at 53-55C.

Basically the Core 2 series processors do tend to save a considerable amount of wattage by simple stepping down a little. I have to say that it's quite remarkable given it's only a 667MHz clock speed drop rather than the usual halving to get the same power savings.

  • Hardware Monitor 3.7 & CPU temp

    FYI,
The newest version on Hardware Monitor (version 3.7 from Marcel Bresnik) now supplies its own CPU temperature monitor extension and no longer relies on SpeedIt, it supports monitoring the CPU temp of both cores. No it doesn't support the throttling capability that SpeedIt was or is supposed to but it at least accesses the real CPU core temp.
As much as I thought SpeedIt would be cool, it just hasn't lived up to its potential and is a development mess. I've been using HM for awhile and love it, had to rely on SpeedIt for CPU temp for awhile, gotta love this new version.
    Cheers,
    Peter

Hey thanks for the heads up Peter. It works beautifully as you say..

  • Need hardware monitor for MSI 8851

     :O
I need some help with locating a hardware monitor for the MSI geforce3 Ti200 (8851).  Does anyone know why this graphics card doesn't come with the hardware monitor or the virtual desktop?  If you know where to find such a program, well, you know what to do.

    Richard -
I tried both the CD version of this and the website version and got the same problem - everything works except the Fan Speed, Temperature, and Voltage sections.  They do not respond.  They do work on an MX440 card we installed in a PC at the store I work at - why don't they work for this card?
The card is the MS-8871 Geforce4 Ti4400-TD.  Is there a way to make this work, or if not, is there another program out there that will give me the fan speed, temps, and voltage?  I would like to know this information.
    Thanks!

  • Who make a good hardware monitor?

    Hey all.
Just a quick post as I am searching for the least resource eating,  highly accurate and trusted hardware monitor.
Ideally i can leave it open in the back ground while i work in Adobe products.
which ones are you all useing?
I would like to see, all available temps, fan speeds, voltages.
doesent have to be anything flashy, just not interfering with resources for the adobe programs, no malware and hopefully accurate in its readings.
the OC forums seem to support CPUID HWmonitor. though they never discuss how much resource it eats or if it has any known conflicts with programs.
    thanks for your advice
    erik

    Erik,
You may also want to consider HWMonitor Pro from the same company. It adds a few features, like gathering trend data for cpu core temperature before, during, and recovered after a render.
It however is a paid version; the HWMonitor program is free.
I also use the MSI Afterburner program to monitor GPU activity. I'm pretty sure that it works for non-MSI nVidia GTX cards even though it comes from MSI and there are other similar utilities I'm sure from the various graphics card manufacturers.
Personally, I use these tools along with CPU-Z and Task Manager to set everything up and then pretty much do without the monitoring, but I'm sure all of these tools could run 24/7 if you would like.

  • Bresink's Hardware Monitor w/ Temperature Readouts

    Hi,
I just discovered that Marcel Bresink has released an update to Hardware Monitor that now has the ability to access and display MacBook Pro temperature sensors, including both CPUs, the GPU chip and case, MCH, air input and exhaust temperaturs as well as fan speed indications and more. There are 13 temperature sensors shown in the screen snapshot on the Web page.
    Check it out: Hardware Monitor

Someone reported that Marcel was going to release an update that would use the same technique that the Cryptonome person used. That’s why I checked in the first place.
Since I trust Bresink and don’t know the other guy, I would be willing to install a version of Hardware Monitor that installed the necessary kernel module.

  • Hardware Monitor vs. iStat Pro widget

    Hi,
I'm going to be upgrading the fan on my video card (7800GT) later today. Before I do that, I'd like to get "before" temperature and rpm readings for everything to compare to "after" readings. I have never used Hardware Monitor or the iStat Pro widget.
Which is better for a Quad-- Hardware Monitor or iStat Pro widget? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    William

So iStat is more than sufficient for getting my temps and rpms? I'd like to get the rpms just to see what's going on with the fans.
I purchased the Zalman VF700-Cu, it should be arriving today. Yeah, I saw the VF900, too. It looks like it'll fit just fine (while blocking one slot- same as the VF700), but seeing as I know others have already successfully installed the VF700 and it seems to cool well enough (and it's a touch less expensive) I figured I'd just stick with the VF700. Also, the little controller that comes with the VF900 seems like a nice option, but I'd just find a good speed and leave it. I wouldn't be constantly changing it. And while the VF900 fan looks nicer than the VF700, that controller is a bit unsightly in addition to cluttering up the computer.

  • I got problems with Corecenter (No Hardware Monitor)

    Hello
I got problem with Corecenter, I got version 1.6.1.0 of it. When I try to change user in Windows XP, I got a error message "No Hardware Monitor" when i have logged in as the new user, and when I click on Ok the Computer reboot. Is it anyone ellse, that having that problem or?.

Well you Have to List your Full System Specs. when you ask a Question, so we know how to help you , as we have no idea on what speed CPU you are running or type of HDD, anything....So I would try to Uninstall "Core-Center" Completely, with "Add an Remove Programs" in your CP, and then try to Reinstall.....Make sure that you are Logged on As Administator just to be sure when you Install it ...And You Should Really use your Forum Control Panel To Create a Signature with your System Specs. in it ...And Please include your Powersupply's Rail Specs. in Amps...ie +12V=?A, +3.3V=?A, +5.0V=?Amps.....You can find these numberes on the side of the Powersupply Unit .................Sean REILLY875

  • MSI 970 Gaming Hardware Monitor FAN profile not working in windows

    Hi,
Not sure how this is supposed to work but when I'm in the hardware monitor and I set a min max temp for the fans, it works great in the bios you can see the speed increasing with the temps.
However when I'm in windows the it is stuck at the lowest RPM and speed doesn't increase when the temps raises.
Anyone know the solution to this?

I'm guessing this isn't my lucky day. I put the BIOS on a mem stick, go in to the BIOS select M-FLASH > Update BIOS > Select the USB stick and BIOS file and BIOS just freezes. I waited for a while because I was afraid it was somehow doing the update and I would interrupt thus breaking the BIOS/Motherboard. Eventually I Hard reset and thank god bios came up again so I tried again, same problem.
I think i'll wait for release notes, it works now and unless there is something worthy in it I'd rather stay away from it. If it ain't broken don't fix it
I admit this thread is puzzling...I have the MSI "970 Gaming" motherboard--and it is so named because it houses the AMD 970a core-logic chipset...It doesn't appear as if the "M.33" bios at the above link is designed for my board--but maybe it is, I can't tell... Current bios is 2.22 (no "M" anywhere)--Just in case we are actually speaking of the same motherboard, I have the same experience with my fan controls in that they seem not to work with the Command Center in the way that you'd think they should work.  Command center is theoretically supposed to run at boot, and any setting you save for system fans 1 & 2 (plus the cpu fan, of course) *should* run when the program runs at boot and you have saved your system fan settings to "smart mode"...  (Says he who is wondering if he's just made a dumb post...) At least, that's what I *think*...Anyway...that apparently does not happen so I pulled Command Center out of my boot-up routine.
You know, if you and I don't have the same motherboard then why do two completely different motherboards bear the same name?  Eh?
Of course, I just may be thoroughly confused about all of this somehow...!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Temperatures are normal, so your MacBook Pro is working correctly. Fans will turn on automatically when temperature is high, so don't worry about that. If you see that fans don't turn on, reply back because it would be a hardware problem

  • LCD display for Hardware Monitor?

    Hardware Monitor...
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
...supports certain external, USB-based LCD displays for providing system status. Is anyone using one?
Can anyone recommend a nice, already-assembled unit to set on the desk here? Thanks.
    blakespot

Sadly none of the above unit will work w/ Hardware Monitor.
I just received this email from the author after inquiring about the above displays compatibility w/ Hardware Monitor:
Unfortunately, these vendors are completely unknown in Europe and
they only offer drivers for Windows, so no support for these modules
    is possible so far.
If not, is there a ready-made, external (already in a little
    enclosure) unit that does?
No, I am currently not aware of any ready-made units. Unfortunately
the market for these devices seems to be so small that no worldwide
vendor has established an industry standard yet, or could provide
an open software layer for Mac OS X. When such a solution exists, we
will immediately support it in Hardware Monitor.
For more information about LCD unit support please see the chapter
"Controlling external alphanumeric displays" in the reference manual
    of Hardware Monitor.

7.Operating System: Win XP Pro Sp2
    8.Problem Description:
When accessing to hardware monitor setup page in BIOS, I get a freeze that I can olny escape by Ctrl Alt Suppr.
I have made an update of Bios to V3.70 because a new module of memory I have bought make problems. This update do not change anything, so I remove this new module and don't use anymore.
But by updating, my CPU clock down to 1050 Mhz instead of 1333Mhz, due to FSB set to 100Mhz.
And impossible to access the page to set the parameter at 133Mhz due to a freeze.
How to solve the problem and get back the right configuration I had before ?
I have read that the problem may come from the power supplies that don't have -5V. I don't know what produce my PS, but how to prevent BIOS to check this -5V ?
EDIT : I have check my PS and it produce -5V.
    Many thanks for your hlep.

    Merry Chrismas everydody.
    Back with happy news :
    - I have flash with v3.7 : flash OK
    - Still getting the problem : hardware monitor page setup freeze, and unable to set FSB to 133Mhz and get the right CPU clock.
    So, my solution :
    - Looking for editing the AMI Bios file.
    - I have load v3.70 Bios file in editor, and only change one parameter : I have set not active the -5V check in hardware monitor module.
    - Save my new bios file (called it v3.71)
    - Then, flash with that edited bios file
    - And manage to access the Hardware Monitor Setup page to set the FSB at 133Mhe. No more freeze.
I don't know how to call this type of solution, but it works well.
For moderators, you can modify the subject by adding [solved] if you want.
    Many thanks for everybody.

  • Hardware monitor error

have any of you experienced spontaneous system shut downs followed by bios reports of 'hardware monitor error' press delete to enter setup etc.  My system has been brought to its knees by this and the good people at samsung have told me that it is probably the vga or the mainboard - which are the g4ti4200td and the a7v333 respectively.  I am stumped, is this possibly an IRQ issue, or a refresh rate issue or what.  The problem is not isolated to high graphic output operations, indicating, I would thing, a memory problem.  It happens seemingly in spite of me, no matter if I am running any programs or not.
any info is much appreciated... thanx ?(

Can I have your specs of your computer you are running on? Thanks...

I have a question about the hardware monitor in the bios.
    When I look in there it shows the Icore = 42.112 A; and that I12v = 5.491A.
Could someone please explain these numbers to me?
I think these might explain the problems I have been having.

I'm running XP and getting  a "Failed to load Hardware monitor driver" message when I do the following.  Log Off\Switch Users.  When the new user comes up I get the error message along with a request that I send the following files to Microsoft.   C:\WINDOWS\minidump\Mini042404-01.dmp and C:\DOCUME~1\HEIDIN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.  It then blue screens and reboots.  I can boot up into all users without any problem.  I only have the problem if I try to switch from one user to another withour rebooting first.  Is this a problem with "Live Monitor" or is it a problem with my Samsung Monitor?  I downloaded a Monitor Driver from Microsoft recently.  This makes the one and  only time I have ever seen a driver download on the Microsoft update page and it happened to be for my Monitor but it seemed to be the same version that came with it.
