Spilt tea on Macbook keyboard, help!!

Today I stupidly spilt some tea on they keyboard and a little soaked through and the Macbook turned off.
I put it upside down straight away and then used a hair dryer on cool to dry and dry it out more.
What should I do?? Take it apart? Take it straight to a repair man? Not try to turn it on for several days??
I am in the middle of exams and desperately need it for study! I feel like such an idiot!
Called the Apple support line but she couldn't even understand me when I said "I spilt my drink" she was no help at all.

You won't be able to use it to study unless you are willing to pay for the replacement parts immediately. Even then, you may not get your machine fixed right away.
Take the battery out and leave the computer alone for at least a week. If you're up for it, check iFixit.com for instructions on how to open up the computer and look inside for areas where liquid is still sitting and soak it up.
Keep the hair dryer away from the computer as it may make things worse.

There really isn't any workaround to the cost. You can't get the parts needed to fix it yourself. Only Apple has those parts and they do not sell them to end users.
Sure you could take it apart and clean everything and the screen might start working again but then it might not. Depending on what cause it to stop working in the first place. Like something got shorted out.

  • I spilt tea on my macbook pro, left it to dry most of the day, but it seems to be working fine...is it really ok ?

I spilt tea on my macbook pro this morning.  I got it off instantly and have backed it up and left it stood on it's side ( I found that advice before I shut it down). I tried it a couple of times during the day and it worked fine.  I shut it down twice also and left it to dry.   It seems to be working fine now...but is it really ?  Have I done any damage that I need to get sorted out or is it really ok because I can use it as normal ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The logic board might be damaged or another part of your MacBook Pro. I recommend you to make a backup of your data and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller because your computer may fail at any moment.
You should do this to guarantee that your computer is safe. Furthermore, you may need a new computer if liquid has affected to a lot of parts, being cheaper a new Mac

  • Macbook keyboard issues help please.

I have a issue with my macbook keyboard. As sometimes it will miss out on the first letter that i type and i hate it doing that. I have applied the update that was suppose to fix this problem but it still does this occasionally.
Do any of you have suggestions, do i have uninstall the keyboard update then re-apply it again if so how do you do it.
I just got this machine back from being repaired and i do not want to take it back to be repaired. It took them weeks to fix it and they lost the macbook, then found it a few days later and they are a nightmare, they only started to fix the problem 2 weeks after i brought it in and that was only because i kept calling them.
    Thanks,

I have already installed the keyboard update and it has fixed most of the issues but i still get the first button press not always being recognized.
    Any other suggestions

  • Spilt beer on macbook/white screen

    Hello,
I am in need of some help/advice. An unknown(although not too much) amount of beer got spilt onto my macbook this evening. The screen is now completley a gray/white color and that is all it does. I have as of now turned off the computer completley, removed the battery and letting it dry with a fan blowing on it from not too far away. If anyone has any suggestions or can help in this matter please feel free to post. Thank you

    Welcome to the discussions!
First of all, get one of these
No spillage - unless you pass out - LOL!
Seriously, let the MB dry completely before attempting to power it on. Many times it is not the liquid itself that does than damage, but the electrical shorts when someone tries to power up a device that has liquid still in it.
After it has been thoroughly dried - and I suggest at least 24 hours - then you can try to power it up and see if it works. If not, then a trip to the local Apple service center is called for. It will likely be expensive and after they give you an estimate, you can decide if the repair is worth it to you or if purchasing a new unit is a better solution.
It may also be covered under homeowners insurance. You may want to check with your agent before doing anything with the repairs.
    Good luck.

  • Macbook keyboard keys "pitched" normal?

I have one of the early early unibody Macbooks. I have noticed that my keys are "pitched" to one side. It seems the splines underneath have too much tension. So, they are not really flat. My 8 key also spontaneously popped off. I was accused of catching it with my sleeve and pulling it off.
Has anyone else noticed this about their new Macbook keyboard? I have looked at 3 others and they dont seem to have the problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't too picky before I make a ruckus about this. Am I just in inquiring about this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
i think it is not normal that the keys are pitched (I guess, you mean "tilted"?). And it's certainly not normal that any key pops off. I would check with the dealer about it.
Whatever you do, stay calm and friendly. The person with whom you'll speak is not the guy who made the fault in the fabrication, and he will be willing to help, since a happy customer comes back.

  • I spilled milk tea on Macbook Pro

I spilled milk tea on Macbook Pro and few drops went inside audio and one USB port. Both are not working. What should I do? Someone suggested cleaning it using nail polish remover. Will it help?
It's 13 inch Macbook Pro late 2011 model.
    Thanks.

I wouldn't use acetone at all (nail polish remover). I wouldn't think that cleaning the ports would do any good anyway. The ports probably shorted out and are simply not going to be useable -> you would have to get a new logic board to fix the problem.
Liquid and electronics are a bad 'mix'.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • Spilt Tea On Computer

My boyfriend split a bunch of tea over the keyboard of my Macbook and it seemed to be working fine. However, when I plugged it in to charge I noticed that the green light that normally comes on when you plug the power cord in to the computer did not come on. The battery icon indicated that the battery was fully charged, but when I unplugged the power cord the battery was only charged at 5 percent. I figured that my battery had started to die so I took my Macbook to the Mac store and purchased a new battery. The new battery seemed fine for awhile but it stopped charging at 26 percent and when I unplug it the charge goes down extremely fast and when I plug it in again the charge stays the same. Now I think that the tea may have caused this and was wondering what people think and what I should do. Thanks

My advice to you is to take it into the store and come clean with them about the spill.
In November, I spilled a tiny amount of champagne on my keyboard and under the computer. Though I cleaned it up within seconds and let it dry out, etc., I had a similar experience with my battery. I got a new one under warranty from Apple Care, but it did the same thing you're talking about--the light would be green (or flicker back and forth), and the battery would only hold a charge up to a low percentage. I had a keyboard issue as well (the infamous crack), so when I took that in for repair, they saw the small spill. At that point, I asked them to do something more about the battery. They replaced two small parts in the computer--one about $13 and the other $11--one the battery connector and the other a part where the MagSafe thing connects. It now works perfectly fine.

  • Forms 10g keyboard help

I'm using Forms 10g rel 2 (10.1.2.0.2). I have several Key-Fx triggers defined in my form. They are defined at the form level, block level & item level. All of them have the display in keyboard help property = yes & a description of what the key does in the keyboard help text property. However when I run the form & do a show keys only the Key-Fx trigger at the form level shows up in the help even if the focus is in the block or item where the others Key-Fx triggers are located. The triggers work but they just don't display in the help. Anyone know what the problem is or is this a bug?

I discovered that the help text is limited to 29 characters. If you enter 30 characters it will still display the key but with no keyboard text. If you enter more than 30 characters then the key will not be displayed in help at all.
