Splitted packages (KDEmod-like) for docs?

Sorry for posting another thread about the "stripping-docs" issue.
I built last week some KDEmod packages from svn to get rid of a bug in kate, and I encountered for the first time the splitted packages concept used in KDEmod.
In your opinion, is it feasible (and not too time-consuming) to use the same system to split every package in package-bin and package-doc?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.
I didn't go through the details of how packages are splitted in KDEmod, I just used the following thread:
http://kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=592
They have two different makepkg for splitted and non splitted packages.
They don't split bin and doc, but independent parts of the package, letting you choose to install only one part.
An example:
$ pacman -Ss kdetoys
extra/kdetoys 3.5.9-1 (kde)
Toys for KDE.
kdemod/kdemod-kdeaddons-base 3.5.9-1 (kdemod)
KDEmod KDEtoys base package
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-amor 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Amusing Misuse Of Resources put's comic figures above your windows
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-base 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
KDEmod KDEtoys base package
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-eyesapplet 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
A kicker applet similar to XEyes
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-fifteenapplet 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Kicker applet, order 15 pieces in a 4x4 square by moving them
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kmoon 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
System tray applet showing the moon phase
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kodo 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Mouse movement meter
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kteatime 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
System tray applet that makes sure your tea doesn't get too strong
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-ktux 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Tux-in-a-Spaceship screen saver
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kweather 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Kicker applet that will display the current weather outside
kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kworldwatch 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Application and kicker applet showing daylight area on the world globe
As you can see, in standard kde, kdetoys is a single package, while in kdemod you can choose to install separately a single component (let's say amor).
But there is only one PKGBUILD for kdemod-kdetoys, and it includes instructions to install or uninstall only one component, notably the line
# LIST OF SPLIT INSTALL FUNCTIONS
splitinstall=(base_install amor_install eyesapplet_install fifteenapplet_install kmoon_install kodo_install kteatime_install ktux_install kweather_install k
worldwatch_install)
Using the same system to split every package in bin and doc was my idea, but I really don't know if it is easy to implement.
It could be helpful if somebody of the KDEmod team posted in this thread.

  • What will the shipping package look like for an IPad I ordered online from the Apple Store?  The reason I'm curious is because it's going to be a gift.

I'm curious as to what kind of packaging a gift I ordered online from the Apple store will come in.  It's going to be an IPad, and I don't want it to be too obvious what the item is, just in case the recipient sees the package.  I'm hoping it's in a brown cardboard box.

Mine shipped in a standard brown box. Inside was the white Apple retail packaging for the iPad.

  • What can I do about paying for Office from a commercial store, and itunes charging $100 for smart converter, ms office package and pack for ms office $41.99? It surely looks like double dipping

Hi folks, I am puzzled when looking at my itunes account. I bought a store office 365 package for $100, and in the process of installing it, somehow ended up with fees for smart converter, ms office package and pack for ms office, totalling another $90 from itunes. Isn't this double dipping and if so, how do I go about a refund? Thanks jby

Well, MS Office 2004 is available for the Mac and being a user of both the Windows and Mac versions, I think that the Mac version has a slight edge. The only downside is that it does not come with MS Access so if you use that then you have to stay with the PC version.
But... if you are set on mainly using Windows then paying a substantial premium just for a computer that looks good rather than on the fact that it runs OSX and hence great packages such as iLife etc is probably a waste. This is especially true when you have to remember that Apple will not give any technical support to users running Windows.. nil, nada, nowt! Likewise, Microshaft (sorry Microsoft) also seem unwilling to give support at this time since (for some strange reason) they don't like the idea of Windows on a Mac.
As I see it, the main reason for Apple to release the ability to run Windows was to:
a> Produce an 'official' version rather than have an unauthorised version 'in the field' which if problematic, could give Apple a bad name.
b> Give people who would like to have a Mac but have the occassional program which has to be run under Windows, the ability to switch to a Mac.
Option b was the reason why I switched from years on a PC to the Mac.

  • [makepkg] Question about split packages handling in makepkg

    Hello
One question came to my mind, while I was looking at the vlc PKGBUILD. Does splitting packages have to be done in such a non efficient way? I mean, why do we have to delete for example, a directory, once make install has been issued, only to copy the removed parts by hand in the next function? Wouldn't it be better to just specify something like per-package %files section (like in RPM .spec files)? Is this approach possible in Arch without ditching all the work up to now? If there was any discussion about that, I would love to take part in it. I am also looking forward to listening some critical comments.

Allan wrote:How is providing a list of files to include more efficient that providing a list not to include?
If it was only about providing a list of files to include/exclude, it would be ok. However, as far as I know, when Makefile has only one install target and we have to separate some files, we have to install all first, and then remove parts which don't fit into the main package just to copy them back in place in the next package-foo2() function. It's like doing the same work twice. Is that right? If so, it could be quite problematic to package bigger projects. I'm kind of speculating here, because I can't name any of the "big projects", but I'm quite sure there are some out there. I hope I made my point clearly now.

  • Split Package Installs wrong version

I noticed that AUR package for gradle and gradle-doc are a split package. I use AURA for my package manager and I opened a issue aurapm/aura#227. However, I am not sure it's a AURA issue.
If you do aura -Aakx gradle-docs it installed the 1.12 documentation even though if you do -Ai gradle-doc which shows version 2. Gradle installed version 2 but the docs are always 1.12.
Anyone have an idea why it's doing this?

@Scimmia, I didn't think it was a PKGBUILD problem -- since doing the searches and looking directly at the PKGBUILD seems to be right. Its frustrating when trying to upgrade gradle and it keeps installing the wrong version for some odd reason.

  • Is there a way to package a file for print? Also help on die cut settings?

    Hello!
I've gotten myself in a bit over my head, I work at a very small company. I am the only one with design experience, and being somewhat fresh out of college, until this job I've had no print experience. So everytime I send something to them, I learn something new. Typically the files I send originate in InDesign though.
I have designed a rectangle sign with a triangle at the top, and so I am preparing the file to be sent to the printer for a die cut. I reached out to them and asked how to prepare it, and the response was very short "Draw your shape, make an overprint rule where you want it to cut. Extend bleed beyond the cut lines." But I wasn't quite sure i understood so I searched, and I created a die cut layer that is the shape of the cutout completely filled in a bright color not found anywhere on the document itself. Is that correct?
Secondly, there is text, so I wanted to package the file just as I would in InDesign. Typically I send a pdf, but not sure a pdf would work with this since the red covers the area needing to be printed. So thus why I wanted to package the file to go in case I haven't prepared it correctly for them.
Should It have just been a stroke and not filled in?
Sorry so long-but I try to explain thoroughly from the get-go. Thanks for any help!

    SReigel:
A little after the fact, but here are a couple more tidbits for you!
Illustrator doesn't have a Package function like InDe. (Unfortunately!)
If you don't have any placed images in your file, you can convert all the text to outlines and send a native Illustrator file, or a vector EPS, or whatever vector file-type your vendor prefers.
There's an app out there called Art Files that will collect fonts and images a la InDe's Package. It's inexpensive, and I believe it has a fully functional trial if you only need it for one or two files.
Hope it all turned out well.
    Regards,
    D.

    Thanks for all.
we have solved this issue  after change some customization according sap support consultant reply as under.
you have 3 different issues within your SD- new g/L interface.
The most critical one is the fact that you substitute PRCTR and
Segment assignemnts into line items to be processed by rule based
split. This leads to the fact that you will only those cases will be
able to post document in case the assignemnts are unique,
which means no different kind of prctr, segment and business area
assignments but only one single kind. This makes no sence at all.
Please see my last reply regarding this most critical issue.
This needs to be solved from Consulting point of view.
    Regards.

  • [Solved] Recommend a package with pacman for "Command Not Found"

Is there a way to get Pacman to recommend a package name like in ubuntu, for example:
If I were to type in a terminal ifconfig and it said "Command not found"
Could Pacman recommend the package net-tools?
    Last edited by jack9099 (2011-08-03 14:33:39)

The pkgtools package will do this for you.
See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pkgtools for instructions on how to set it up.

  • What packages are required for an 11.2.0.3 install on Solaris 11?

Where can I find information on which packages are required to install Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 11?
The documentation only mentions Solaris 10. I tracked down the packages required for Solaris 10, and most of them are either included in the GA release of 11 or obsoleted.
There are however a couple of packages that are missing from the base install of Solaris 11:
    SUNWarc (renamed to):
         * consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation (installed)
         * developer/library/lint (missing)
    SUNWhea (renamed to):
         * consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation (installed)
         * system/header (misising)
So it looks like developer/library/lint and system/header are packages from required for Solaris 10 that are missing on 11. The installer however doesn't check for any packages whatsoever.
Does that mean it's safe to install the database?

Here is list of packages you need in order to install Oracle 11gR2 on Solaris 11:
SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibms SUNWpool SUNWpoolr SUNWsprot SUNWtoo SUNWlibm SUNWuiu8 SUNWfont-xorg-core SUNWfont-xorg-iso8859-1 SUNWmfrun SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs SUNWxwfsw SUNWxwplt
Some of the above are installed by default which you can find by:
pkginfo -i SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibms SUNWpool SUNWpoolr SUNWsprot SUNWtoo SUNWlibm SUNWuiu8 SUNWfont-xorg-core SUNWfont-xorg-iso8859-1 SUNWmfrun SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs SUNWxwfsw SUNWxwplt
I believe you will only have to install the following:
    pkg install compatibility/packages/SUNWxwplt SUNWarc SUNWhea SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs
    Cheers

  • B2B software package you use for AS2

    Hi All,
We are using Oracle 10G B2B. We are adding a new supplier. Our new supplier asks " what is your B2B software package you use for AS2"
I said " Application server integration B2B of version 10.1.2.3.0", then immediately he replied
"I could not find Oracle Application Server Integration B2B 10.1.2.3 listed on the Drummond Group website for AS2 interoperability certification. Would the software package be listed under another name?"
Could you please help us to reply his question..

    Hi,
Ask your supplier to check the AS2-3Q05 report of Drummond group. It is available at below link -
    http://www.drummondgroup.com/html-v2/as2-archive.html
You can find Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) listed here. Also give him the refernce of below doc -

  • Since 1.5: Multiple sources of package comments found for package

SInce I upgraded to JDK 1.5, I get these warnings
Multiple sources of package comments found for package "x.y.z"
for my package comments. Did something change for package.html content?

I already have them in the sources ...Ok, but are you sure that the Javadoc classpath option does not also point to directories with package html files?
It works without warnings, when using 1.4 ... these warnings appear since using 1.5.Yep. The Doclet interface of the Doclet API specifies a method void setRawCommentText(String text) prior to 1.5 this method did exactly what its name implies. With 1.5 the implementation was changed to generate a warning and do nothing if it was attempted to set the comment text multiple times.
    What happens is this:
Javadoc sees the package.html files in the sources, creates an appropriate Doc (PackageDoc) instance and sets the comment text. Then for some reason Javadoc encounters package.html files for already existing Doc instances and tries to set the comment text a second (third, fourth, ...) time.
So, all you need to do is to ensure that Javadoc parses the package.html file for a given package only once, i.e. ensure that only sourcepath points to the package.html files but not classpath.

changed how the mpl package is created for easier maintainability.  Previously I had been duplicating what the main pkg target was doing and just omitting the files that were not intended to be in the mpl pkg.  After the main pkg is bundled up the files not needed will be removed from the stage directory and then bundled up as the mpl package. fixes SDK-25039
Straighten out the confusing packaging targets.
-sdk-packages is now packages -> calling this will package the flex_sdk_4 and mpl zips
QE notes: the mpl + add-on package should give us the flex_sdk_4 pkg
