SQL - Cascade on delete

Hello Guys,
I have a small issue here. There is one parent table with several child tables associated to it. The problem is when defining the relationships the "cascade on delete" constraint was not defined. Now I want to enable it. I mean if I delete anything in the parent table, I want all the associated child rows should also get deleted.
Thanks in advance and appreciate your help.

I came up with the following, please note it has not been tested extensively. In addition it just generates the SQL, it doesn't execute it (which could be changed).
BEGIN
        FOR r IN
                SELECT  OWNER
                ,       CONSTRAINT_NAME

  • ABAP Open SQL:Cascade on Delete

    Hello,
    I have a primary table and seconday table with Foreign Key. when I delete the record from primary table, i want to delete all recrods from secondary table. Is there command in ABAP like cascade on delete?
    Thanks,
    Ahmed

    Of course you can.
    1. You surely have an internal table, with the entries to be deleted. This table must have the primary keys of your DDIC second_table.
    Then use the following code :
    IF NOT itab[] IS INITIAL.   "don't start the deletion using an empty table
    DELETE second_table FROM TABLE itab.
    ENDIF.
    2. Or you can use the DELETE within a loop.
    For more details on the DELETE command, simply press F1, on it, within the ABAP editor.

  • Migration Microsoft SQL Sever 2005 to Oracle 11g cascade on delete problem

    Hi, I'm trying to migrate a sql server 2005 database to oracle 11g version with the lastest version of Oracle SQL Developer. All works fine but there is a little thing that I can't migrate. I have a few tables in the sql server database that has cascade on delete but I can't migrate this through Oracle Sql Developer.
    I know that Oracle database server supports it, then I can manually change the resulting database creation sql script but I'd like to know how I can do it with Oracle Sql Developer.
    Thanks in advance :)

    Hello,
    sorry for the delay.
    Even after some more research I couldn't find this problem described anywhere. I can confirm your observations, the problem is easy to reproduce. Thus I reported it to SQL Developer development as this looks like a bug.
    One workaround is to edit the generated DDL script and to add the ON DELETE CASCADE clause to the ALTER TABLE statement. If you don't like that: apply the scripts as they are and finish the migration. Then, in SQL Developer, right-click the table in your Oracle RDBMS schema, and click on Edit. In the pop-up window, select "Foreign Key". Then, in the lower right corner, there appears a small scroll-down menu where you can change the delete option from RESTRICT to CASCADE.

  • Kodo 3.0 generates invalid SQL statement when deleting an instance

    Hi,
         kodo 3.0 generates an invalid SQL statement when deleting an instance
    that has a one-many inverse unidirectional association.
    All manipulations of the data go just fine except for the deletion of
    instances of Whole without Parts. Kodo 3.0 generates the following SQL
    statement UPDATE PART SET WHERE PARTID= ?.
    This problem does not occur when using a bidirectional relationship
    between Whole and Part. Is there an error in the mapping file somewhere?
    Thanks in advance,

    </field>

    This bug is caused by the fact that your FK is using a column that is
    not nullable (in this case, because it is also a PK column). It is
    definitely a bug on our side, but I wanted to let our users know that
    most one-sided one-many relations won't exhibit this problem.
    Thank you for the report; we will try to correct the problem in an
    upcoming release.

  • SQL Command for deleting T-Code for roles

    Hi Experts
    I want to delete the transaction from the role name by using SQL Command in MS-SQL Server  instead of going to /npfcg -> zwa_xyz (role name for user) and transaction code is CR01,CR01,CA01 Etc.,
    I have so many transaction code which is taking time to delete one by one.
    So is there any SQL Statement to delete the t-code for that rolename
    Delete from tablename where t-code=xyz and rolename in ('zwa_xyz',zwa_123')

    Hey,
    SAP does not support executing update/insert/delete SQLs on their tables,
    (the only SQL they support are select, and updates that they publish in their official site, such as notes in service.sap.com/notes)
    is is probably due to the fact that sap contains about 30,000 of table,
    and sometimes SAP uses cluster tables (which are difficult to handle in DB)
    in addition, each and every SP adds/remove table or changes existing tables.
    For example, you probably don't know that changing rule, would
    create a change document (cluster table - CDHDR, CDPOS and etc),
    If you want, it is very easy to get the full list of the table (and the sql) that are updated
    (as I mentioned before, it is not recommended to run this sql, because it is not supported!!!)
    just run transaction ST05 while deleting transaction from role,
    when you display the list, press shift+F8 (or summerized trace from the menu),
    and they search (Ctrl+F) the words: update or insert or delete.
    You can use standard API such as BAPIs (such as BAPI_USER_*)/IDOCs(such as USERCHANGE),
    and execute them from the portal and any other place (even in EXCEL or OS->meaning command line).
    Here more information on executing RFCs:
    1. in order to execute an RFC from excel, you should install SAP gui on the client that would execute the RFCs to the SAP, and you would have to write VBA code.
    2. in order to execute an RFC from command line, this is a little bit more difficult,
    sap provide RFC sdk (in service.sap.com/SWDC)
    3. in order to execute an RFC from .net you can use the .net connector,
    more information is here:
    NW RFC SDK - is there a guide somewhere?
    4. You can also, execute an RFC using Web service,
    by creating web-service from the RFC in SE37.
    I guess It will take more time to develop this they just executing the SQL.
    If you need more information in executing an RFC,
    please decide which option is your favorite,
    and I would add information...

  • [Excel] Running a SQL Query to delete rows

    Hello Experts,
    Background: I am attempting to use a dba of my companies time keeping system and implement it with Power BI tools. Given the file size restrictions within Power Bi itself I need to lower my file size by removing all time logs from
    inactive employees.
    I have a question regarding whether or not you can use a sql query to delete rows in excel. I have roughly 200,000+ rows in my excel spreadsheet. I am attempting to delete all rows where an employee equals inactive. I have attempted to
    delete these rows by sorting them and doing a bulk delete and clear contents, but it seems to crash my excel every time.  My thought process is that using a query that does a timed delete might put less of a burden on deleting the massive amount of data.
    I would like to use this: DELETE * FROM [Table_(...)_Actual$] WHERE [Current] = "Inactive" (Will add more once I know it is possible to use sql queries in Excel.
    Any information on whether or not this is possible would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Link

    Running SQL Query in Excel is possible, however, the delete query is not supported in Excel.
    You are more restricted in deleting Excel data than   data from a relational data source. In a relational database, "row" has no   meaning or existence apart from "record"; in an Excel worksheet, this is not   true. You can delete values
    in fields (cells). Please see:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257819/en-us
    One workaround : Use update query to set the rows as null, then use select query.
    e.g.
    SQL = "update [sheet2$A1:B5] set name=null,age=null where name='andy'"
    cnn.Execute SQL
    SQL = "select name,age from [sheet2$A1:B5] where name is not null"

  • Get Current SQL in Before delete trigger

    Hi,
    I have created a before delete trigger to track which records are deleted from a table I need to know what statements fires the trigger. can someone please describe how I can retrieve the current SQL.
    using sys_context('userenv','CURRENT_SQL') returns null for CURRENT SQL
    Note:
    For me the easier is to enable auditing and audit delete on the table however at the moment I cant get a downtime from the business to bounce the database to enable auditing.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER before_delete BEFORE DELETE
    ON AUDIT_TEST_TAB
    FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE
    v_username varchar2(50);
    v_stmt varchar2(255);
    v_client_info varchar2(200);
    v_os_user varchar2(50);
    v_machine varchar2(50);
    v_program varchar2(50);
    v_module varchar2(50);
    v_auth_type varchar2(200);
    v_ip_addr varchar2(200);
    v_sql_statement VARCHAR2(4000);
    BEGIN
    SELECT sys_context ('USERENV', 'CURRENT_SQL')
    INTO v_sql_statement
    FROM dual;
    -----------insert into logging table statment ----
    end;

    A few comments.
    Lets assume you run a delete statement that deletes 550 rows from your table. If your trigger is working then the very same statement would be stored 550 times. I think an BEFORE or better an AFTER delete STATEMENT level trigger would be the better choice. Why AFTER? Because if the delete operation fails, for example because of existing child records, then everything is rolled back anyway to the implicit savepoint just before the delete.
    So to store the SQL statement the correct trigger would be an AFTER STATEMENT DELETE trigger.
    Now what to store: You want the sql statement. You could try to find the cursor/currently running SQL. It might be tricky to separate that from the SQLs that you run to find this out.
    It could even be possible to simply save all commands that are in your PGA/Cached cursor area. First find out yur session, then store the SQL_text (first 60 chars) for all the cursors in this session by using v$open_cursor or the first 1000 chars by using v$sql.
    Here are a few views that might be helpful. v$session , v$open_cursor, v$sql, v$sqltext, v$sql_bind_data, v$sql_bind_capture, dba_hist_sqltext

  • Cascade or delete in database server, why if my EJB do it for me??

    Hi,
    I am in design phase of a database for my j2EE application. In the database desing i have some relationships entities, that have foreign keys. I have several options about foreign keys in the relationships, cascade deletes, restrict .... all in my database server.
    But, when i am reading the referencial integrity of the entity EJBs CMP relationships, the entity beans make the cascade deletes automaticaly for maintain the relationsships.
    Need i make my relationships in my database server with cascade delete options or leave it for my application server???
    Another one, if i make relationships in my database server, why i need do it in my entity beans???
    tanks, sorry for my poor english

    Hi Markus,
    Tanks for your answer, if this tip only for entity beans with CMP???
    For example, if i have some entity beans, one with CMP and other with JDO, or for example, an entity beans that use CMP and JDO for access to few tables (i dont know that it is possible or it a good design), how can i design the relationships update/delete cascades in my database server, all entity beans persistence types support his referencial integrity ?? if this if true i think that i forget the relationships updates/deletes cascades in my database server.
    At this moment, i dont know what type of persistence i will use in my application server. I dont undertand yet wath approach i must follow, i design my database and after design my entity beans over this database or i must foget my database and beging with entity beans design first .... i have a big problem, i need read a lot of more.
    Something for help me???
    Very, very thanks

  • SQL Server 2014 - Delete duplicate rows in a table except one

    Hi all,
    I have a table that contains duplicate rows. Using grouping I can easily identify those rows.
    As of now, I count the grouped records and copy one of the group in a temporary table together with its count of elements. Than I loop over this table and delete N - 1 rows of each group from the original table. Unfortunately this is done with two cursors
    and WHILE loops.
    Is anybody out there who could give some hints how to handle deletion of duplicated rows leaving one in place using pure SQL? I tried a full delete of all elements of a group and then an INSERT of one row to recreate a row again. But this is not
    very elegant and close to using cursors.
    Regards Uwe

    Hi all,
    based on input below from Uri, I have developed a little more general solution for removal of duplicates. I did that, because I'm sure that for many beginners in SQL it is easier specialize a proposal by removing parts of it than adding new functionality.
    Here is my code.
    -- Remove duplicates from a table and document the deleted rows
    DECLARE @MyTable Table (Col1 int, Col2 int, Col3 int, Col4 int);
    DECLARE @OutTable Table (Col1 int, Col2 int, Col3 int, Col4 int);
    INSERT INTO @MyTable VALUES
    (1, 10, 100, 7),
    (2, 20, 200, 2),
    (2, 20, 200, 1),
    (3, 30, 300, 3),
    (1, 10, 200, 4),
    (1, 10, 100, 5),
    (1, 10, 100, 6);
    WITH cte (RN, Col1, Col2, Col3, Col4)
    AS (SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY Col1, Col2, Col3 ORDER BY (SELECT 0)) AS RN, Col1, Col2, Col3, Col4
    FROM @MyTable)
    DELETE FROM cte
    OUTPUT DELETED.Col1, DELETED.Col2, DELETED.Col3, DELETED.Col4
    INTO @OutTable (Col1, Col2, Col3, Col4)
    WHERE RN > 1;
    SELECT * FROM @OutTable;
    And this is the result:
    The MS 139444 article Satish mentioned is focussed on duplicate PKs removal. Thanks for the hint.
    Thanks to you all for your rapid response.
    Regards Uwe

    Hello,
    I have users with a resource with a process instance that have a large number (1000) of task instance related to reconciliations (Reconciliation Update Received).
    And when trying to revoke this resource, OIM take a long time to perfom this job, it is due to the fact that all this taks are canceled one by one...

  • SQL report with delete capability

    I want to create a SQL report with the capability of delete rows (show checkboxes next to each row). Is this possible?

    You can create a page type of Tabular Form, remove all buttons but delete, change all the edit boxes to display as text (saves state) and use that.

  • Audit SQL Job log Deletion

    How can I find who deleted the history of the job?

    Logs is not cleared automatically. I want to find who deleted logs or at least to audit such actions in the future.
    Hi inevg,
    According to your description, in SQL Server, auditing can be used to track and log events that occur on system. SQL Agent jobs are added / removed using stored procedure interface sp_add_job and sp_delete_job.
     And we could track user who has created a job / deleted a specific job. You could accomplish this using SQL Server Auditing feature. You can turn on Auditing to track and log stored procedure execution requests to file log / windows event
    log. For more information, see:
    Auditing SQL Agent job creation and deletion.

  • PL/SQL procedure to delete

    this has been solved
    Edited by: user13133295 on Oct 11, 2010 12:11 PM

    Hello,
    >> How would I write my delete process if I don't loop through APEX_application.g_f0x?
    This is the whole point of the new Tabular Form logic – more declarative options. You are telling the APEX engine what you want to do – in your case, go through *"All Submitted Rows"* - and the APEX engine will take care of the details. No more G_Fxx arrays, and matching each array to its corresponding column, but using bind variable notation, with the name of the column.
    In your specific case, just write the delete statement as if you are dealing with a single row. The APEX engine will apply this statement to all the relevant rows. It also means that your where clause should include only conditions that pertains to the application logic, and not to the Tabular Form itself.
    >> By condition I am presuming you refering to the condition of the Process wher you set Item/Column is not null and pick APEX$ROW_SELECTOR instead of using it in the PL/SQL where clause like it did?
    Yes. In your specific case, there is indeed a pre-defined condition that deals with NULL values. In other cases, you can use the PL/SQL option to define any condition you need.
    Two general comments:
    - The APEX engine takes care of all the necessary commit operations. In most cases (including this one) you don’t need to do it yourself.
    - There is a field called Process Success Message. It is better to use this field than directly manipulating the apex_application.g_print_success_message variable.
    Regards,
    Arie.
