SQL check result of the sql statement

hello gurus, i have this sql statement:
select MyTableColumn_PDF_File
from Database.dbo.MyTableName
where coalesce( MyTableColumn_PDF_File,' ') is null;
so basically, it works fine on sql management studio.
But what if I used this command on vb.net, how do I check whether the column is null or not?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks. :)

  • How to Run SQL Tuning Advisor on the SQL statement with SQL_ID?

    Can you give the steps to run the SQL tuning advisor on the SQL statement with SQL_ID?
    Database version: 10g Release 2

    Hi,
    You can use either the automatic SQL tuning features that are accessible from Enterprise Manager Database Console on the "Advisor Central" page or trough SQL*PLUS using the DBMS_SQLTUNE pakage:
    -- creating the tuning task
    set serveroutput on
    declare
      l_sql_tune_task_id  varchar2(100);
    begin
      l_sql_tune_task_id := dbms_sqltune.create_tuning_task (
                              sql_id      => '<your_sql_id>',
                              scope       => dbms_sqltune.scope_comprehensive,
                              time_limit  => 60,
                              task_name   => '<your_tuning_task_name>',
                              description => 'tuning task for statement your_sql_id.');
      dbms_output.put_line('l_sql_tune_task_id: ' || l_sql_tune_task_id);
    end;
    -- executing the tuning task
    exec dbms_sqltune.execute_tuning_task(task_name => '<your_tuning_task_name>');
    -- displaying the recommendations
    set long 100000;
    set longchunksize 1000
    set pagesize 10000
    set linesize 100
    select dbms_sqltune.report_tuning_task('<your_tuning_task_name>') as recommendations from dual;For more information, take a look at link provided by Jaffy.

  • How to processing the results from the select statement in SQL query?

    Hi
    This might be too simple, but my knowledge of the SQL is very limited...
    I have table where I do have details from calls (Lync QoE).
    I can take all calls from the table, but I would like to count the concurrent calls on the table. This is how I got it work on the Excel to work (but I would like to do that on the SQL statement to get it more dynamic use):
    Table have these line and this is what I get out from the Select):
    [callid],[start],[end]
    1ABC,1.1.2014 01:00:15, 1.1.2014 01:01:00
    5DEF,1.1.2014 01:00:45, 1.1.2014 01:05:00
    FDE2,1.1.2014 01:03:15, 1.1.2014 01:04:00
    KDJ8,1.1.2014 01:04:15, 1.1.2014 01:06:00
    FDJ8,2.1.2014 01:04:15, 2.1.2014 01:06:00
    KDSE,3.1.2014 01:04:15, 3.1.2014 01:06:00
    The information I would like to get, is what is the maximum amount of the concurrent calls per day.
    On the excel I basically count line by line how many concurrent calls each line have had, and then pickup the highest one. On above example the calls 5DEF, FDE2 and FDE2 have been active at the same time which gives 3 for the first day.
    The table is ordered by the start. So let say the code is on the third line (FDE2). I need to count calls from before which end time is after the start time (of FDE2), but also I need to count calls after (FDE2) which are started before the current
    call has ended.

  • Two statements, get results from the first statement?

    Ok maybe I made it sound a little harder than it is, but this is what I am trying to do. I have a result set from from a database call when I pass in the username and password . In the 1st call I get the Users info: User_ID, first_name, lastname, etc...
    But I either need to get info from the first statement, and pass it to the 2nd statement or just do two statement calls calling the same info and passing it to my user object? I dont know which if any is faster, or better. The only thing I need from the first statement is the user_id. In the 2nd statement I need the user_id to find out the user permissions.
    Here is the original code when It was getting the user info and permissions from the same table. try
               dba = new DbAccess();
               java.sql.Connection con = dba.getConnection();
    java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@kares:1523:appd","user","pass");
               ps = con.prepareStatement("SELECT USER_ID, LAST_NAME, FIRST_NAME, LOGIN, PASSWORD," +
               "X, Y, Z FROM RD_USERS WHERE LOGIN=? and PASSWORD=?");
               ps.setString(1, user);
               ps.setString(2, pass);
               rs = ps.executeQuery();
               // set the user attributes
               if ( rs.next() )
                  loginValid = true;
                  setUserId(rs.getInt("USER_ID"));
                  setLastName(rs.getString("LAST_NAME"));
                  setFirstName(rs.getString("FIRST_NAME"));
                  setLoginName(rs.getString("LOGIN"));
                  setPassword(rs.getString("PASSWORD"));
                  X = rs.getBoolean("X");
                  setX(X);
                  Y = rs.getBoolean("Y");
                  setY(Y);
                  Z = rs.getBoolean("Z");
                  setZ(Z);
               else
                  setLastName(null);
                  setFirstName(null);
                  setLoginName(null);
                  setPassword(null);
                  setX(false);
                  setY(false);
                  setZ(false);
               rs.close(); rs = null;
               ps.close(); ps = null;
               //dba.close(); dba = null;
            } The code above gets the info from one table, I now need to get the X, Y, and Z from a different table, but I need the USER_ID first. So, the first table is set up with the user_id and user info, and the 2nd table is set up with the user_id and user permissions

    Thanks DrClap I started on the the query and I did it a little differently, but it should hopefull do the same thing. my tables are constructed as so:
    USER
         USER_ID
         FIRST_NAME
         LAST_NAME
         USER_NAME
         PASSWORD
         ETC....
    USER_PERMISSIONS
         USER_ID
         PERMISSION X
         PERMISSION Y
         PERMISSION Z
         ETC....
    My Select looks something like this
    ps = con.prepareStatement("SELECT a.USER_ID, a.LAST_NAME, a.FIRST_NAME, a.USER_NAME, a.USER_PASSWORD," +
               "b.X, b.Y, b.Z FROM RD_USERS a, RD_PERMISSIONS b WHERE USER_NAME=? and USER_PASSWORD=?");
    This is where I come to a crossroads, Can I add on another AND to say "WHERE a.USER_ID = b.USER_ID
    and do I use the =, or is it ==, or .equals(). Thanks in advance.

  • Check Results of Dynamic SQL- Oracle

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me to know if I can use a check to verify if a Dynamic SQL query returns NO ROWS.
    Suppose:
    LC_SQL := 'select * from tableA'
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE LC_SQL;
    I now need to check if on execution LC_SQL fetches 0 rows.

    Few modifications required.
    declare
    v_count number;
    lc_sql varchar2(200);
    begin
    LC_SQL := 'select count(*) from tableA';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE LC_SQL into V_COUNT;
    IF V_COUNT = 0
         then
              dbms_output.put_line('NO ROWS RETURNED');
        else
            dbms_output.put_line('Data Exists');
    end if;
    end;
    BTW, if the requirement is to check if data is there in the table or not, there is no need of using Dynamic SQL. If you are checking the data for multiple tables and table names are dynamic, then you need to go with Dynamic SQL.

  • Setting the sql statement

    http://www.egbolig.dk/drift_bo_syd.rpt (HERE IS THE REPORT)
    We are using SAP Crystal Report .NET Runtime files (http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824 newest version 13.0.9.1312) in our web asp.net application. Everything have been working fine, but we have can into problems when showing the certain kinda reports.
    In our code get the reports sql statement using getSQLStatement.
    Dim gp As New GroupPath() Dim sql As String = report.ReportClientDocument.RowsetController.GetSQLStatement(gp)
    This will get the sql, and we use this sql (getSqlStatement) and attach a sql WHERE clause from the code to only get a certain number of records.
    The report Drift_bo_syd.rpt has 5 tables, and the following sql statement.
    Database/Show Sql Statement
    SELECT "rekvstam"."Sel", "rekvstam"."Afd", "rekvstam"."Levadresse", "rekvstam"."Rekvisition", "rekvstam"."Lejemaal", "rekvstam"."Lejer", "rekvstam"."Udfoertaf", "rekvstam"."Udfoertdato", "rekvstam"."Krit", "Selskab"."Adresse", "Selskab"."Postby", "Selskab"."Tlf", "Selskab"."Fax", "rekvstam"."Kontor", "rekvstam"."Hjemme", "rekvstam"."Rekvdato", "rekvstam"."Aftale", "rekvstam"."InitialRet", "rekvstam"."Arbejde", "kreditor"."Att", "rekvstam"."Konto", "Selskab"."Navn", "Selskab"."Email", "Interessentadresse"."Navn", "Interessentadresse"."Adresse", "Interessentadresse"."Postby", "Interessentadresse"."Email1", "Interessentadresse"."Telefon_Fax", "Interessentadresse"."Type", "Interessentadresse"."Tlf1", "rekvstam"."tlfLejer", "kreditor"."Kred", "Interessentadresse"."Interessentnr" FROM  (("Rekvstam" "rekvstam" INNER JOIN "Selskab" "Selskab" ON "rekvstam"."Sel"="Selskab"."Sel") LEFT OUTER JOIN "Kreditor" "kreditor" ON "rekvstam"."Kred"="kreditor"."Kred") INNER JOIN "Interessentadresse" "Interessentadresse" ON "kreditor"."Interessentnr"="Interessentadresse"."Interessentnr" WHERE  "Interessentadresse"."Type"='K'
    But if we run the report from our asp.net code, we get the following error:
    Cannot determine the queries necessary to get data for this report. Failed to retrieve data from the database. Error in File Drift_Bo_Syd {97FED382-1BAC-4DB1-970F-9E098ECE28F1}.rpt: Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    After a long time searching for a solution, we found out that if we place the column kred from the kreditor table on the report, the report will work. (field explorer / database fields / kreditor (table) / kred (column)
    Very important is that the field "kreditor.kred" is a primary key of the table kreditor, and also used in the linking.!
    (We can get the report to work if we call the sql statement with the "kreditor"."kred" in the SELECT statement.
    SELECT "kreditor"."kred", "rekvstam"."Sel", "rekvstam"."Afd", "rekvstam"."Levadresse", "rekvstam"."Rekvisition", "rekvstam"."Lejemaal", "rekvstam"."Lejer", "rekvstam"."Udfoertaf", "rekvstam"."Udfoertdato", "rekvstam"."Krit", "Selskab"."Adresse", "Selskab"."Postby", "Selskab"."Tlf", "Selskab"."Fax", "rekvstam"."Kontor", "rekvstam"."Hjemme", "rekvstam"."Rekvdato", "rekvstam"."Aftale", "rekvstam"."InitialRet", "rekvstam"."Arbejde", "kreditor"."Att", "rekvstam"."Konto", "Selskab"."Navn", "Selskab"."Email", "Interessentadresse"."Navn", "Interessentadresse"."Adresse", "Interessentadresse"."Postby", "Interessentadresse"."Email1", "Interessentadresse"."Telefon_Fax", "Interessentadresse"."Type", "Interessentadresse"."Tlf1", "rekvstam"."tlfLejer", "kreditor"."Kred", "Interessentadresse"."Interessentnr" FROM  (("Rekvstam" "rekvstam" INNER JOIN "Selskab" "Selskab" ON "rekvstam"."Sel"="Selskab"."Sel") LEFT OUTER JOIN "Kreditor" "kreditor" ON "rekvstam"."Kred"="kreditor"."Kred") INNER JOIN "Interessentadresse" "Interessentadresse" ON "kreditor"."Interessentnr"="Interessentadresse"."Interessentnr" WHERE  "Interessentadresse"."Type"='K'
    But it should not be necessary to include this field (which is the primary key and used in linking the report) in the sql statement,
    BECAUSE it is not used in the report. So maybe this is a bug?
    It has not been necessary in RDC Crystal Report or RAS Crystal Report in a classic asp envoriment.
    Here is the code we use to set the reports SQL Statement)
    Try
    Dim conn As New SqlConnection(connString)
    conn.Open()
    Dim sd As New SqlDataAdapter(New SqlCommand(nySQL, conn))
    Dim ds As New Data.DataSet()
    Dim navn As String = report.Database.Tables.Item(0).Name
    sd.Fill(ds, navn)
    report.SetDataSource(ds)
    conn.Close()
    Catch ex As Exception
    Throw
    End Try

    Hi Jan
    I understand your problem completely but we have asked  R&D to be able to edit the SQL and they explained due to how the report Engine works it's simply not possible anymore. It would take a complete rewrite in all of our DB drivers and query dll's to be able to allow it. They did that in CR 9 when they rewrote the DB drivers and removed the SQL part of the code into separate dll's and that is when the ability was removed, it's been that way ever since.
    One possibility is to get the SQL from the Report and then connect to your DB using a .NET and if the results from the SQL is less than 5K rows and not too many columns you could then set the Report data source to a Dataset.
    As long as all of the field names are the same CR will run the report using this work flow.
    For data larger than 5K rows, limit is due to memory resources, you could save the DS to an XML file and then set the reports data source to the XML file. We've seen 100meg XML's used so the amount of data should not be a problem, but of course there are limits to everything so test...
    This should not affect performance much.
    So the work flow would be:
    Load the report
    Get the SQL Statement
    Paste it into a Dataset Query
    Something like this should get you started:
    //string connString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=MySQLServer;Database=xtreme;User ID=sa;Password=pw";
    string connString = "Provider=SQLNCLI10;Server=MySQLServer;Database=xtreme;User ID=sa;Password=pw";
    Detail"".""Quantity"" FROM   ""xtreme"".""dbo"".""Orders Detail"" ""Orders Detail""";
    string sqlString = @"SELECT top 10*  FROM  ""xtreme"".""dbo"".""Financials"" ""Financials""";
    System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection oleConn = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(connString);
    System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand cmd = oleConn.CreateCommand();
    cmd.CommandText = sqlString;
    System.Data.DataSet ds = new System.Data.DataSet();
    OleDbDataAdapter oleAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(sqlString, oleConn);
    //OleDbDataAdapter oleAdapter2 = new OleDbDataAdapter(sqlString2, oleConn);
    DataTable dt1 = new DataTable("Financials");
    //DataTable dt2 = new DataTable("Orders Detail");
    oleAdapter.Fill(dt1);
    //oleAdapter2.Fill(dt2);
    ds.Tables.Add(dt1);
    //ds.Tables.Add(dt2);
    ds.WriteXml("c:\\reports\\sc2.xml", XmlWriteMode.WriteSchema);
    // as long as the field names match exactly Cr has no problems setting report to a DS.
    try
        rpt.SetDataSource(ds.Tables[0]); // incremtent [0] for more than 1 table.
        rpt.SetDataSource(ds);
    catch (Exception ex)
        MessageBox.Show("ERROR: Schema Mismatch. Error reported by CR: " + ex.Message);
    //Now check for subreport and set to same DS
    foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Section section in rpt.ReportDefinition.Sections)
        foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportObject reportObject in section.ReportObjects)
            if (reportObject.Kind == ReportObjectKind.SubreportObject)
                CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.SubreportObject subReport = (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.SubreportObject)reportObject;
                CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument subDocument = subReport.OpenSubreport(subReport.SubreportName);
                subDocument.SetDataSource(ds);
    And for XML it would use this part, not above I am saving the data and structure in the XML file so it should match what is in the report:
    foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table rptTable in rpt.Database.Tables)
        try
            rptTable.Location = btrDataFile.ToString(); // @"D:\Atest\" + rptTable.Location + ".xml";
        catch (Exception ex)
            MessageBox.Show("ERROR: " + ex.Message);
    Only issue you may run into is sometimes XML does not have a direct field type and your original data source but you'll get an error if that happens which could be trapped and handled.
    If you have a report that only uses 2 tables I do have code that will convert it to use a Command Object. That is the limit the engine is capable of, there is a lot of logic to be able to do this in CRD and the SDK so that is all we could get for now.
    I hope that helps

  • Checking of SQL Query Result

    Hi All,
    How can i view result of SQL query in SAP-ABAP. Actually I want to see result of following query :
    select  * from ZMSTKCALC where werks_d <> werks_main.
    I am new to SAP territory.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Yogesh,
    Welcome to the SDN world!!!
    You have to use WRITE statement to see the result of the SQL query.
    The result of the SQL query need to be stored in a work area.
    For example:
    data: T_ZMSTKCALC  LIKE ZMSTKCALC occurs 0 with header line.
    select * from ZMSTKCALC into table T_ZMSTKCALC where werks <> werks_main.
    loop at T_ZMSTKCALC.
    write:/ T_ZMSTKCALC-FIELD1,
               T_ZMSTKCALC-FIELD2.
    endloop.
    Thanks

  • Toplink generate the SQL statement correctly but it does not return any row

    Hi
    I faced an strange problem when using Toplink as JPA provider. Following snippet shows how I create and execute a query using Toplink JPA:
    q = em.createQuery("SELECT B FROM Branch B WHERE B.street LIKE :street");
    q.setParameter("street", "'%a%'");
       List<Branch> l = q.getResultList();
      System.out.println("List Size: " + l.size());The SQL statement resulted by this query is as follow (according to the generated log file)
    SELECT ID, STREET FROM BRANCH WHERE (STREET LIKE CAST (? AS VARCHAR(32672) ))
      bind => [%a%]Problem is that List size is always 0, independent of what I provide as parameter. I tried and executed the generated SQL statement in the SQL manager and I got some tens of record as the result. The SQL statement i tested in the SQL manager is like:
    SELECT ID, STREET FROM BRANCH WHERE (STREET LIKE CAST ('%a%' AS VARCHAR(32672) ))Can someone please let me know what I am missing and how I can fix this problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thank you for reply.
    All data are stored in lower case so, the case sensitivity is not a problem. I am wondering how the generated query works fine when I execute it in the sql manager but it return no result when it is executed by the JPA.
    Thanks for looking into my problem.

  • Urgent : How to do the SQL trace analysis

    Hi Floks,
    How to do the SQL  Trace analysis and any another tools is there to test abap programming then this tools runtime analysis,extended Programming Checking,Code inspector .How to utilize that tools .please forward me
    thanks
    suresh

    HI,
    <b>SQL Trace Use:</b>
    The SQL Trace function is an on-demand log of selected SQL statements that are issued against the database through the Open SQL Engine. The SQL Trace can be switched on or off dynamically. The log format is database independent. Besides the SQL statement text, each log record contains information about the point in time when the statement was executed, its duration, its input parameters and results (where applicable) as well as context information.
    <b>
    Features</b>
    The SQL Trace is especially useful for:
    Development
    SQL Trace can help JDO, enterprise beans, servlet and JSP developers to learn which kind of database accesses their code produces.
    1.      Performance analysis
    Typically, performance issues are caused by inefficient database accesses. In this case SQL Trace can be used to show the issued SQL statements and their duration, thus helping to identify inefficient SQL statements.
    <b>Activities</b>
    Typically, you should use the SQL Trace when you need to check the behavior of a particular application. This is the following scenario:

  • Execute an sql command other than an select statement

    hello,
    is it possible to execute an sql-command other than a
    select statement in a report ?
    something like execute ... ?
    i want ro execute a statement BEFORE the select ...
    or is the one and only possible statement in a report
    a "select ?"
    greetings
    Thorsten Lorenz

    Hi ,
    You can always use the Report triggers to execute any other SQL commands . If you need to execute them before the SELECT statement of you Data Model query , then You can use the Parameter Form triggers / before Report Trigger. Be sure to put in a commit statement as well, if the result of the Select statement you intend to do depends on these SQL commands.
    Thanks

    The trigger is "attached" to the table so when you drop the table the trigger goes as well.

  • Questions about the sql developer 2.1

    first sorry for my poor english, I am very happy to see the sql developer 2.1.but here ,it has a very serious problem.
    usually, I used to saving some common sql statements into a sql file. and when need to do something , I just need to open the file with oracle sql developer, and excute the sql statements.
    but when I do this with sql developer 2.1, the excute sql button is not activated , the icon is gray ,so I can't excute any sql statement in the file, and I should open a new sql worksheep and type the sql statements to excute it. what's the matter?
    thanks!

    When opening a script, sqldev logically doesn't know under which connection you want to run the statements.
    Just select the connection you want using the drop-down box in the upper right of the script tab's toolbar, and all buttons will get enabled.
    Have fun,
    K.

    but i to catch the result of the sql ...to use in another things in this function...how to to this?..like this:
    result = document.GetLineDownload.results
    regards
    Mário

    Mario,
    your script suggests that you are using a iCommand query. The iCommand is used to execute a query that does not return a value, like an update, insert or delete query.
    If you are expecting a result, you would normally use an iGrid, and then you can use the functions that Suresh proposed to read out the result cells. If you do not want the iGrid to be displayed, but only need the values in your JavaScript, then you can omit the "DisplayTemplate" parameter in your iGrid so it won't be displayed on the web page.
    You can however read the values from the iCommand also by using the function "iCommand.getValue(Col, Row)".
    Please have a look at [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_xmii120/helpdata/en/44/d91ad2d06f3ee2e10000000a114a6b/content.htm].
