SQL Develeoper 1.5.5 - Synonyms in other schemas missing in tree view-BUG?

Hi!
I have upgraded to the latest version of SQL Developer 1.5.5. When I look in other schemas the synonyms are not displayed. Normally I am logged into an account with DBA privileges. Other objects appear to display correctly. I was not able to find this listed as a known bug. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything that can be done to correct it? This is a big problem for us at the moment.

What do you mean by synonyms in other schemas ?
When I look in another schema (through Other Users), the Synonyms node is filled correctly.
Public synonyms are accessed through your own connection, in the node with the same name.
You'll have to be more detailed as to what is failing, preferably with a reproducible example.

Inconsistent logic for viewing others schemes objects in browser

A while ago when we upgraded our db's to Oracle 10 we also replaced our famous green friend for Sql Developer with our entire development crew.
Among a few other things, people were not all that happy, seeing that they lost the desired "check for access to dba views option". But as long as we could rely on a consistent view in the "other schema" in all possible views (via table, or directly in the navigator) we could defend this way of thinking for not being able to see everything.
But unfortunately, in the latest version "1.5.1 5440", we still see inconsistent things...
for example :
via browser (other users schema)
=> Indexes are not visible in the indexes branch point, but they do show up on the indexes tab for the corresponding table.
=> For the same "other users scheme", Triggers do show up in the triggers branch point, but then when we check the trigger tab for the corresponding table, they are not shown
It looks like waiting for yet another version is no option and we will be forced to retreat to the green commercial swamp on high demand of our developers...

There are still a few glitches in the queries used for certain things - I cannot remember the problem you mention with indexes being posted before (although I get the same problem with indexes visible in all_indexes not appearing on other users index node), but the trigger tab problem has been discussed before (1.5PROD/EA3/EA2/EA1: Only table owners triggers show in Table's trigger tab

Yes , it is possible..unless the current user has the right privileges on others' db objects schema.
Now , as regards the syntax....
1) The more descriptive way is to use the format ... <owner_schema>.<obj_name>.
2) If you have declared public synonyms of other schema's objects then you can refer to them as just <obj.name>.... but the <owner_schema>.<obj_name> is not wrong.
3) If the db objects reside on another database you must have declared a db link.... then the syntax is <owner_schema>.<obj_name>@<db_link_name>.

Inserting the data into other schema..

Hi,
Can any body help me to write the pl/sql code to insert the data into other schema
eg: A and B two schemas are there
In B there is a table with the name EM_Rep. When i was writting the pl sql code to insert the data into B.EM_Rep from A Schema it is throughing an error like
PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Note: I have given the grant like
connected to user b

Can't see DDL of views from other schemas in Developer?

Hi,
I've seen elements of this problem in other threads but this problem of course has it's own twist.
I can see other schema's objects EXCEPT VIEW DDL.
I have given a user every role and priv that I can and they still can't see the view ddl of another schema. They can see procedures, functions etc. just not the view. I've found that if I use the user that created the users I can see the DDL of all subordinate users. Users created under that schema can not see each others views no matter what rights are given. Interestingly enough sometimes when I look to display view DDL it will flash the DDL briefly before blanking the screen. very frustrating. All the Toad fanboys are crowing about how they couldn't possibly use a tool that doesn't allow them to see other view source.
I have also looked for settings in the preferences but could find none.
Is this a bug? It seems like one to me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bug in tree view of synonyms owned by other user

Hi,
I'm connecting into Oracle 10.2.0.3 whith SQL Developer 1.5.3.0.53 and user SYS as SYSDBA. When I browse tree view of synonyms of another user, the synonyms that include database link don't display !!! If I connect whith that user the synonyms are displayed correct.
Is this a bug ? There are a solution ?

while we support dblinks, we dont support following them thru on synonyms or browsing them either. This is a feature right now and you can vote for this as a feature in a later release by submitting a feature request at sqldeveloper.oracle.com

PL/SQL Web services working with synonyms but not parameters Collection

I am Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0
i could able to test successfully the PL/SQL web services with the synonyms.I created the PL/SQL web services in 'MKI' schema and then i dropped the objects from the MKI schema and launched the same in 'BAS' Schema and given grants to MKI schema and Created the Local synonyms in Schema 'MKI' and now when i test the PL/SQL web service, it is working successfully.
There was problem with passing the collection types as parameters in web services in that case it is giving the following Error
"Internal Server Error (Caught exception while handling request: java.rmi.RemoteException: java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error)"
Could any one suggest me the reason for the above error?

Just a clarification about the problem.
Even though, if an exception is raised, the Connection object will be eventually closed(), it may take a while and if there are lots of users getting exceptions at the same time the connection pool can quickly run out of connections (correct me if I am wrong please.)
That is why we think the Connection object should be immediately closed in the case of an exception is raised and we are looking for a fix for this.

I checked the database and there isn't MTL_ONHAND_DISCREPANCY synonym. But there is MTL_ONHAND_DISCREPANCIES synonym.
This is an upgraded instance from 11.0.3 and first time I am running Re-create grants and synonyms for APPS schema.
Plz let me know if anyone of you faced this issue.

there is no such table MTL_ONHAND_DISCREPANCY or synonym in Applications 11.5.10.2. Is that custom table created in your db?
After dropping this table from APPS schema 'Re-create grants and synonyms for APPS schema' went thru fine.Its correct
This table does not exist in INV schema in 11.5.10.2.
Could be possible that the consultant could have created this table in INV and APPS schema by mistake or whatever.Yes, with the same name, there might be table in APPS SCHEMA. When you run recreate grants and synonyms, adadmin tries to create synonym for that table in APPS schema. since there is object available with the same name in apps chema, you got that error.

Error using views from other schema

Hello,
i recently had problems using the execute immediate statement in Object Types.
The SQL statement tried to select from some views which were owned by an other schema.
Although we had public synonyms on these views and the same dynamic sql could be used out of a stored procedure the usage in the object type raised a "table or view does not exist exception".
using the same views in the same schema where the object types belonged to, was ok.
example:
schema: scott
view: my_view
schema: dave
sql: "select from scott.my.view ....."
works well from a stored procedure, but nor if used in an object type
create the view in schema "dave" an then
sql: "select from my.view ....."
works fine.
So is someone aware of this behaviour?
Is this a bug or a feature?

Error In Adadmin Re-Create Grants And Synonyms For Apps Schema

HI,
I upgraded the my DB from 9.2.6 to 10.2.4.It was sucessfull.
While doing Postupgradayion steps -
Recreate grants and synonym for apps
a. Log in to server with applmgr user
b. Execute adadmin
c. Choose -> Maintain Applications Database Entities menu
d. Choose -> Re-create grants and synonyms for APPS schema
2 workers got failed ...

There is 8 option(hidden) avaliable but i suggest dont use this option.(As you mention its a custom,if you belive it wont problem you can use this hidden option or drop 'XXGOD_SEQ_DECORTIMESHEET_HDR' and recreate it later,its own your risk) By the way please check below notes which is similar error like yours

Performance Problem: Synonym in Schema Referencing Synonym in Diff Schema

Does anyone have any experience using a synonym in one schema that references another synonym in another schema? I found that if I do it this way, the performance drops considerably depending upon the SQL. It runs slow and in some cases I get Oracle errors (i.e. Invalid ROWID). If I change my synonym to reference the actual table in the other schema, it don't get the same degradation in performance.
I'm curious if anyone has experienced the same problem and what options might be available to improve the situation. I lose the "semantic" layer by doing this - having to always reference the physical table instead of the synonym in the other schema.

Only 2 schemas. Schema A has a table T1 with a public synonym S1. I am running sql against Schema B, however I have a private synonym S2 in this schema (B) that references synonym S1 in Schema A. Because I am using a synonym to reference another synonym in another schema I'm having performance issues. I tried a test and changed the S2 synonym in schema B to point to the table T1 instead of S1 in schema A and it performed much better. Just want to understand what I'm seeing here. This example might help:
Schema A:
"CREATE SYNONYM S1 FOR T1"
Schema B (I'm running my sql against this schema, but my synonym points to table in schema A):
"CREATE SYNONYM S2 FOR A.S1"
"INSERT INTO XXX SELECT * FROM S2"
I had performance issues with this synonym to synonym, so I changed it to synonym to table:
"CREATE SYNONYM S2 FOR A.T1"
Again, with the change in reference from a synonym to the actual table, things seem to work better. Hope this makes sense.

Readonly user can access other schema and change them

Hello everybody,
I created a readonly user like this in oracle 11g r2
SQL> CREATE USER readonly IDENTIFIED BY readonly;
SQL> GRANT CREATE SESSION ,CREATE SYNONYM TO readonly;
SQL> GRANT SELECT ON SA.vCustomerService TO readonly;
But when I connect to the database and do a select like:
SQL> SELECT * FROM ACC;
I get the data from that table, even if I do an update on that table it works.
What am I doing wrong that my readonly user still has full acces on the other schema?

Well, you missed something somewhere. If there is no
ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=whoeverthen there must be either public synonym for the object as this shows:

"Loading Public Synonyms" in SYS schema hangs indefinitely

When I try to expand "Public Synonyms" in SYS schema tree, the "Loading Public Synonyms" message window appears and hangs indefinitely without giving any result.
Trying the same in Reports/All Objects/Public Synonyms I get the result within a second.
What's wrong?
I'm running SQL Developer 1.1.2.25.79, Oracle Database 10g R2 (10.2.0.3) on 32-bit RHEL-4.4 AS using Sun jdk1.6.0_01.

If you do a select count(*) from dba_synonyms where owner='PUBLIC' you'll get a figure around 20,000 (I get 19697 from a 10.2.0.1 database out of a total of 23992). So, it'll not only take a while to return all the public synonyms but it'll also take a while to sort the output.
However, I've created a test report with the following SQL and it works quickly
select *
from dba_synonyms
where owner='PUBLIC'
I guess it's a bug in SQL Developer - perhaps one of the development team could confirm?

Running form from others schema

dear gurus i have an application and in it i have not created any table etc in users schema and now i wish to enable the user to select /update etc on tables through forms
but i have not coming to some novel Idea ( i can give users database priviliges but forms are made i m not sure now how should i give the users access to form do i have to change connection string or i have to change table name as schema.table_name )
plz help me to figure it out how to connect at run time to tables of differet user if they have given access.

When using forms, connect as any user who has privileges on the tables OTHER THAN the owner of the tables (the SYSTEM user does nicely without having to do a lot of grants). The SQL generated behind the scenes will then have the proper schema prefix on all the table references(schema.tablename instead of just the tablename). If you are manually creating your data blocks, then its up to you to be sure that all your SQL has the appropriate prefixes. This makes your form schema independent.
If you absolutely cannot recreate your data blocks, an alternative is to create synonyms in the schemas of every user who must run the forms... or to create public synonyms. I much prefer schema-independent forms to synonyms.
ONE PROBELM is that if you use sequences anywhere in your form, you may not run the form logged in as the owner of the schema. Although you can reference your own tables using the schema.table construct, Oracle doesn't like you to reference your own sequences with schema.sequence.
