Sql developer 3.0: could be possible to avoid creating connections

Hi, when connecting from oracle forms, you don't have to create a connection, in the same way I don't know if could be possible to avoid creating connections when you are using a tnsnames.ora archive.
simple to choose the connection as in oracle forms, and the posibility to save the password.
thank you

As stated in the forum announcement, you can request this at the SQL Developer Exchange, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.

K.

  • Sql developer  search functionality could be better

    the search window closes after the first match,
    when I am looking for all matches for a string, it takes more time.
    There are plenty of example for good search functionality, with what I have experienced , the search feature in TEXTPAD is simple and works well.
    oralce sql developer 2.1.1.64
    I hope oracle recognizances this enhancement.

    Have you tried using any of the shortcut keys to aid in your searching?
    Alt-F3 : Find Next Result
    Shift-F3 : Find Previous Result
    (In a SQL Worksheet) Ctrl-F Brings the search menu back up
    (In a Code Editor Window) Ctrl-F Brings you to the search bar at the top of the editor. Ctrl-F twice will bring the search menu back up.

    Error report:

    I am on 10.2.0.3. The CREATE TABLE always completes successfully, but the warning bugs me, and I have had no success tracking it down since there is no associated numberr.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi ,
    The Oracle JDBC driver is returning this warning so I will be logging an issue with them, but for the moment SQL Developer will continue to report the warning as is.
    The reason for the warning is not clear or documented as far as I can tell,
    but I have replicated the issue with a simpler testcase which makes it easier to have a guess about the issue :)
    ----START
    DROP TABLE sourcetable ;
    CREATE TABLE sourcetable(col1 char);
    INSERT INTO sourcetable VALUES('M');
    DROP TABLE customers_phone;
    CREATE TABLE customers_phone AS
    SELECT MAX(decode(col1, 'm','OK' , NULL)) COLALIAS
    FROM sourcetable;
    ----END
    The warning occurs in the above script in SQL Developer , but not in SQL*Plus.
    The warning disappears when we change 'm' to 'M'.
    The warning disappears when we change NULL to 'OK2'
    In all cases the table creates successfully and the appropriate values inserted.
    My gut feeling is ...
    During the definition of customers_phone, Oracle has to work out what the COLALIAS datatype is.
    When it sees NULL as the only alternative (as sourcetable.col1 = 'M' not 'm') it throws up a warning. It then has to rely on the 'OK' value to define the COLALIAS datatype, even though the 'OK' value wont be inserted as sourcetable.col1 = 'M' and not 'm'. So Oracle makes the correct decision to define the COLALIAS as VARCHAR2(2), but the warning is just to say it had to use the alternative value to define the column.
    Why SQL*Plus does not report it and JDBC does, I'm not sure. Either way it doesn't look like a real issue.
    Again, this is just a guess and not a fact.
    Just though an update was in order.
    Regards,
    Dermot.

    I don't recommend trying 1.2, as 1.5.1 is being used by many on Vista and going back to 1.2, means you lose out on much of the new 1.5 functionality.
    Let's try to track down the Vista issues instead.
    We have found that some users have solved screen painting issues by using JDK 1.6 as the minimum. It seems you have done that. (However, K able seems to be doing fine on the 1.5 JDK.
    Can you try the download and install again?

  • SQL Developer 1.5.4: "Keep alive" setting to keep connections open?

    Is there any way to configure SQL Developer 1.5.4 such that it "pings" the server every now then to keep the connection open?
    It's very frustrating to be working on a script, step away from it for a while, and have SQL Developer freeze when trying to execute the next SQL statement.
    What can I do?
    My workaround--execute a "dummy" SQL statement like "select * from dual;" every now and then to keep a connection open.
    Thanks.
    Dana

    I have had this problem till I had a RAM upgrade.
    Since I have had the upgrade JDeveloper also responds well.
    A way to check is via task manager, if PF usage is more than you physical RAM size it is a indicator that you need more RAM or shut down some application that is hogging memory.
    Just to rule out if its not some other problem, have you tried working in SQL Developer running by itself or with one other program.

  • SQL Developer 4.0 EA2 -- Cannot use OpenLDAP with LDAP connect option

    Hi,
    I've got OpenLDAP setup to work with my Oracle clients, to serve up TNS connect strings, in lieu of having tnsnames.ora files scattered about hundreds of servers.
    This is working fine with 10g/11g, both full and instant clients, no problem.
    Now, I'm trying to configure SQL Developer 4.0 EA2 working with it, as well.
    When I attempt to do so, I'm able to select the "LDAP" option in "Connection Type", and the "LDAP Server" drop down list is correctly populated with my LDAP server, from ldap.ora.
    However, when I select it, I get the following error:
    Status : Failure -[LDAP: error code 32 - No Such Object]
    Now, I've done some research, and I monitored the slapd.log file, which shows me the following:
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 fd=16 ACCEPT from IP=192.168.125.1:63781 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=0 BIND dn="" method=128
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=0 text=
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=1 SRCH base="" scope=2 deref=0 filter="(objectClass=orclContext)"
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=1 SEARCH RESULT tag=101 err=32 nentries=0 text=
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=2 UNBIND
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 fd=16 closed
    Which is a lot more detail, but reflects the corresponding error code, (32 - No Such Object).
    After doing some testing with ldapsearch, I've been able to replicate what SQL Developer is doing, and get the exact same error.
    That ldapsearch command is:
    ldapsearch -h einstein -p 389 -c -x -D "" -b "" "(objectClass=orclContext)"
    Looking in the slapd.log file, I find an identical error to what is produced from SQL Developer.
    Further, the query that SQL Developer wants to do can be successfully done with the following ldapsearch:
    ldapsearch -h einstein -p 389 -c -x -D "" -b "dc=proquest,dc=com" "(objectClass=orclContext)"
    So, it seems the problem is with the fact that SQL Developer is not supplying a search base.
    I'm no LDAP expert, and I'm really not sure where to turn next....
    Is there a SQL Developer option that allows me to set that search base?  Is there a configuration I'm missing on the LDAP server configuration?
    Thanks,
    -Mark

    Well, that didn't take long.  I managed to find a solution to the problem.
    It comes down to the fact that SQL Developer doesn't supply a search base, and my LDAP server didn't have a default search base defined.
    When I edited slapd.conf (the OpenLDAP config file) and added a "defaultsearchbase" parameter, and bounced the LDAP server, everything started to work.
    I now have a working configuration with OpenLDAP and SQL Developer.
    I'll mark this discussion as closed.

  • Oracle 9i - Is there a possiblity to avoid creating a function?

    Here is the structure of my table.
    Table users.
    USER_ID, NT_ID, F_NAME, L_NAME
    There are two ways to fetch the name of the user.
    SELECT f_name || l_name from Users

    So I wrote a function like this.
    /*This is an anonymous PL/SQL block*/
    declare

    Hi Ali,
    This may be of varoius reasons..
    Is the database that you are connecting on the same PC?
    You have specified Hostname: localhost.
    If not please replace it with the IP of that server.
    Else please check whether the database listener is started or not. if not please start the listener.
    Check the SID by tnsping command.
    Hope this will help you..
    Thanks

  • View jobs with SQL Developer and export to file with delimiter

    Hi,
    is there a way to view, create and alter my database jobs with SQL developer?
    And is it possible to export tables, views or simple queries to file delimited different from the CSV standard?
    Diego.

    Hi and Welcome to the Forum!!
    To select data from a table or a view you must use the SELECT sql command. Example to get the data from your view you can
    select ZMATNUM,ZMATCUR,ZMATATTR from ZMATERIALAs you have said you are using SQL Developer just execute the above query in your sql developer and it will show the data. Right click the grid and export the data to excel file.

  • How to browse Java Source in PL/SQL Developer

    As I use PL/SQL Developer for developing, for the first time I've just tried to write and compile a java source.
    After compiling the java source succesfully, I can see it by selecting it from the system table USER_SOURCE where it's defined as TYPE JAVA SOURCE, but I'd like to know where and if it's possible to browse it in the left window list of the panel of PL/SQL Developer like it happens for Procedures, Packages, ... I mean is there a way to edit the java source created without selecting it from USER_SOURCE but in a better way as it's possibile for the procedures in PL/SQL Developer?
    Thanks

    Yes, It is possible. Check the option Tools->Browser. Then in the browser you can find it.

    You don't say what you have done to set up a connection.
    This error is usually caused by something like using the wrong host name, or port number.
