SQL Developer & MySQL ??
I am unable to use the Tools->Database Export utility to do exports for MySQL databases the way I do it for oracle. In the 'Connection' option of the export wizard, only my oracle connections are enlisted.
Though I have a MySQL database server up and running and a connection to my database in it from SQL Developer exists and is active, I dont' understand why only my oracle database connections are enlisted in the 'Connection' option of the export wizard. Any Hints ???
Reports, Export Wizard and other features are not supported for non-Oracle databases. You can right-click on a data grid and export the data to file. SQL Developer is a GUI for Oracle databases, the connection to other non-Oracle databases is primarily and initially for migrating from these database to Oracle. We support browsing objects and ANSI SQL commands. We do plan to extend the support to non- Oracle databases, but our primary focus and priority remains Oracle.

Problems using Quick Migrate in SQL Developer 1.5 for MySQL to Oracle 10g
Hi all,
I am trying to use SQL Developer 1.5 migration tools (Quick Migrate) to perform online capture and build source model to migrate from MySQL 5.x to Oracle 10g on Windows platform. I get these errors and the Quick Migrate process fails:
oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistableObject.doInsert(PersistableObject.java:238)
I did a search and used the sqldeveloper.cmd script but still fails. Then I created a new database and truncated the repository. I now get the above error plus two new ones listed below:
oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
Error occurred during capture: Protocol violation
It fails during the capture process for MySQL 5.1 database
when it begins to capture the tables from MySQL.
Does anyone know how to resolve these issues when migrating from MySQL to Oracle 10g using Quick Migrate with SQL Developer 1.5 release?

Ben Prusinski

benprusinskiHi all,
I put the following in my sqldeveloper.cmd file:
SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
What is very confusing is that with SQL Developer 1.5, there are several levels and several SQL Developer executables! I am really not sure which of these to use:
I created the SQLDeveloper 1.5 directory called SQLDeveloper1_5 on Windows:
1) cd C:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338
there exists a sqldeveloper.exe
2) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe
3) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloer\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
Which SQLDeveloper 1.5 executable should I be using and where should I place the
sqldeveloper.cmd file?
Also I did try to use a different database and schema for the repository with Quick Migrate but it appears a bug exists in SQL Developer 1.5 version that causes errors with Quick Migrate for MySQL to Oracle? Is this correct?
As an update, I ran the following commands:
cd to
c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin
sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
Start sqldeveloper.exe
Perform standard capture for MySQL using the new mig2 schema as the new repository
It starts the capture but fails on the errors below:
Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
UPDATE
============================
I tried this again and it worked with the exception of one error message listed below:
Here are the steps that I followed:
1. Create a Windows cmd script
Put the following entries in the script:
SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
save the command windows script as sqldeveloper.cmd
Copy this script to the base installation directory for SQLDeveloper
Example:
1. cd c:\SQLDeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper
2. Start SQLDeveloper with the command script that you created earlier
Example:
Open a Windows shell prompt window and execute the following scripts:
a) sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
b) sqldeveloper.exe
3) In SQL Developer 1.5
From the Migrate menu,
a) Delete current repository and create a new schema in Oracle target database call it mig2.
b) Then create a new repository in SQL Developer 1.5
c) Right mouse click on the MySQL 5.x database and choose capture
It worked with the exception of one error message:
o.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean.
So it looks like something is screwed up with my JDBC drivers and configuration for MySQL. How do I diagnose the JDBC driver issue for MySQL?
Thanks!!!
Ben

Import / Export MySQL database in SQL Developer
Hello,
I have version 3.1.2.704 of SQL Developer Data Modeler and version 3.2.09 of SQL Developer installed.
When I´m adding a new connection in SQL Developer, I can choose the MySQL tab an create a connection to a MySQL database.
The connection test was successful and I can see all tables.
I use the same JDBC driver for SQL Developer and SQL Developer Data Modeler (mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar).
But there are two problems.
1. First there is an problem when I want to import from a MySQL database (SQL Developer -> File -> DataModeler -> Import -> DataDictionary).
After choosing the MySQL connection and pressing the next button an error occurs: CONNECTION_TYPE
What is the reason?
2. In SQL Developer Data Modeler I have not the CONNECTION_TYPE problem. But when I want to export DDL, there is no MySQL type selectable, although there is working connection to the MySQL Database. It´s the same in SQL Developer.
What is the reason?Hi,
Please be aware that a separate forum for SQL Developer Data Modeler is available:
SQL Developer Data Modeler
You will likely get a more rapid response if you mark this thread as answered and re-post your question over there.

Data Modeler does not explicitly support import from MySQL databases, although you can use a JDBC connection to do this.
Philip described how to set this up in forum message How to connect mySQL for reverve engineering
There is no MySQL tab in Data Modeler - you should use "JDBC-ODBC Bridge" - "other third party Driver".
Set URL like : jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/database_name
driver Class: com.mysql.jdbc.DriverAlso Data Modeler does not support generation of DDL for MySQL.

SQL Developer 1.5: Mysql unique index problem
I experienced a problem with SQL Developer 1.5: uniqueness of multiple fields indexes seems to be lost. On single field indexes it works properly.
As you can see generated code lacks the "UNIQUE" keyword
MySQL DDL:
CREATE TABLE `my_table` (
`aaa` CHAR(20) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '%',
`bbb` CHAR(4) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
`ccc` CHAR(4) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '%',
`ddd` CHAR(4) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '%',
`eee` CHAR(4) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '%',
`fff` CHAR(30) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
`ggg` CHAR(30) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci DEFAULT NULL,
UNIQUE KEY `All` (`aaa`, `bbb`, `ccc`, `ddd`, `eee`, `fff`, `ggg`),
KEY `key_bbb` (`bbb`),
KEY `key_ccc` (`ccc`)
)ENGINE=MyISAM
ROW_FORMAT=FIXED CHARACTER SET 'latin1' COLLATE 'latin1_swedish_ci';
Generated code:
CREATE TABLE my_table \[...\]
CREATE INDEX All_ ON my_table
aaa,
bbb,
ccc,
ddd,
eee,
fff,
ggg
\[...\]That looks strange. I created the following three tables in mySQL:
CREATE TABLE `my_table_a` (
`aaa` CHAR(20) ,
`bbb` CHAR(4) ,
UNIQUE KEY `All` (`aaa`, `bbb`),
KEY `key_aaa` (`aaa`),
KEY `key_bbb` (`bbb`)
CREATE TABLE `my_table_b` (
`aaa` CHAR(20) ,
`bbb` CHAR(4) ,
UNIQUE KEY `All` (`aaa`, `bbb`),
UNIQUE KEY `key_aaa` (`aaa`),
KEY `key_bbb` (`bbb`)
CREATE TABLE `my_table_c` (
`aaa` CHAR(20) ,
`bbb` CHAR(4) ,
UNIQUE KEY `All` (`aaa`, `bbb`),
KEY `key_aaa` (`aaa`),
UNIQUE KEY `key_bbb` (`bbb`)
The wrong result can already be seen in the captured model.
Result for my_table_a:
All: NON_UNIQUE
key_aaa: NON_UNIQUE
key_bbb: NON_UNIQUE
Result for my_table_b:
All: UNIQUE
key_aaa: UNIQUE
key_bbb: NON_UNIQUE
Result for my_table_c:
All: NON_UNIQUE
key_aaa: NON_UNIQUE
key_bbb: UNIQUE
So there is at least one case where an index with two segments is remaining UNIQUE. But as soon as the index has three segments, the UNIQUE is lost.
I'll check whether this is a known bug, and if not, I'll create a new bug.

MySQL functionality within Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler
Hi all,
I've read a few forum posts here that lead me to believe that MySQL is not currently supported by the data modeler tool (Link #1 I got to by clicking on the Statement Of Direction link on the main page SQL Developer Data Modeler</title><meta name="Title" content="SQL Developer Data Modeler"&g… Link #2 I got to by doing a search on the word MySQL within the forum search):

Can datamodeler be used with MySQL?
SQL Developer (not the Data Modeler tool, but the database admin-type tool not for modeling) does support MySQL using the latest MySQL Connector J 5.1 driver but, strangely, it doesn't seem the Data Modeler supports it, though. Can anyone please confirm that MySQL is currently unsupported for the Data Modeler tool? Thanks in advance.Hi,
it doesn't seem the Data Modeler supports it, though.
Data Modeler doesn't have specific support for MySQL - i.e you cannot generate DDL for MySQL. Though you can import form MySQL server using JDBC connection in standalone DM or using created MySQL connection if you are using DM inside SQL Developer.
You can import definitions for tables(columns, PK and UK constraints, indexes, foreign keys) and views.

SQL Developer Migrate mySQL to 11g gets ORA-00972 due to 30 char name limit
I am running MySQL version 5.5.30 server, SQL Developer 3.0.04 Build MAIN-04.34, and Oracle Enterprise Server 11.2.0.1.0, and using Migrate option to move both data dictionary and data from mysql to Oracle
Most of the steps worked fine using OnLine option: used Capture just fine to generate the repositiory, and Convert generated DDL script just fine in the SQL Developer file folder.
It failed to create users due to privs, but I created them manually: emulation user and also the MYSQL data schema user, after which I took the generated DDL, connected to my Oracle data schema user, and ran the DDL to basically create all the objects. And found out that over 50 tables / column names from MYSQL are longer then 30 char, and thus the generated DDL fails to create objects..
Question - I can manually replace the names with shorter 30 char names, but if I do, my data migration step will not work.
i cannot find references to 'name too long' problem anywhere is SQL Server documentation..
here is the Oracle error example:
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-00972: identifier is too long
00972. 00000 - "identifier is too long"
*Cause: An identifier with more than 30 characters was specified.
*Action: Specify at most 30 characters.
Creating Primary Key Constraint PRIMARY_1 on table bank_account ...Hello,
have you tried the offline migration option? Then you can probably modify also the ctl file for the SQL*Loader to reflect your changes in the DDL script. I didn't yet try it out, it was just an idea that came to my mind.

Accessing MySQL InnoDB tables via JDBC using Oracle SQL Developer
I had posted a problem in the Oracle SQL Developer forum with how that application (v1.1) accesses MySQL InnoDB tables and someone replied that the "[data migration] team created the integration with MySQL", so I am posting here in hopes of learning more about the problem.
Here's a summary:
When I use Oracle SQL Developer to query MySQL InnoDB tables, I need to issue a "commit" before I do each query to ensure that I am getting current results. Otherwise, it appears to be using a snapshot as-of the last commit. Is this a problem with SQL Developer, or a JDBC configuration, or MySQL problem even?
The full details are here:
Re: MySQL InnoDB tablesHi,
I've posted a response to your original thread.

Can you run SQL Developer like this:
sqldeveloper -J-Dide.extension.log.to.console=true
and see if you get any additional output on the console?
There is a bug in the base IDE platform that can lead to this message when you have a broken extension in ide/extensions or sqldeveloper/extensions. The extra logging provided by the above switch should turn on diagnostics that will help identify which extension is causing the problem.
FWIW, the base IDE problem has been fixed already, and the fix should be consumed by a future release of SQL Developer. The fix ensures that a single broken extension will not take down the whole product.

GeoRaptor 3.2.1 Released for SQL Developer 3.x
Spatialites!
After 6 months of development and testing, GeoRaptor 3.2.1 has been released for SQL Developer 3.x (tested on 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2). This release no longer supports SQL Developer 1.x or 2.x releases due to internal changes to the SQL Developer APIs.
GeoRaptor can be downloaded from the GeoRaptor project's sourceforge page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/georaptor and installed via Help>Check for Updates>Install from Local File. Installation via SQL Developer's update mechanism should be available soon.
The release notes for this release are:
* Fixed issues with validate geometry functionality in particular the update dialog box.
* Revamped "About GeoRaptor" form. Includes clickable URLs, links to mailing lists, version number listing, thanks to testers etc.
* Placed "About GeoRaptor" icon on GeoRaptor's map toolbar.
* SQL Developer NLS settings accessed: improvements in the display and entry and numeric data.
-- Tolerances in Spatial Layer properties will display with the NLS decimal separator eg 0,05.
Some parts of GeoRaptor such as Validation that show and accept numbers have not been changed from when someone else modified the code.
If you double click on the left MBR/right MBR icon in the map at the bottom, the current centre position will display according to the NLS settings.
Editing the value to jump the map to that point works even with grouping separators and decimal separators being commas!
* Spatial Layer Draw has been modified to use NLS based decimal formatting.
* New geometry marking/labelling options have been added. In particular you can now label the vertices of a linestring/polygon with the following additional elements:
-- Cumulative length
-- Measure (M)
-- Z value
-- Labelling of vertices with <id>{X,Y} now also honours 3/4D geometries. If geometry has XYY then it will be labelled as {X,Y,Z} etc.
* You can also label each vector/segment of a linestring/polygon with:
-- Length
-- Cumulative Length
-- Bearing (approximate for geodetic/geographic data)
-- Distance (approximate for geodetic/geographic data)
-- Bearing and Distance (approximate for geodetic/geographic data)
* The font properties of the mark text can be changed independently of the feature label. This includes the offset and label position (CC, LL, UR etc).
* New feature labelling options have been provided:
-- First/middle/last vertex,
-- Any supplied sdo_point within a line/polygon's sdo_geometry object, or
-- Calculated by GeoRaptor on the client side using Java Topology Suite.
* Result sets now have the ability to:
-- Copy to clipboard all geometries across many rows and columns.
-- Display one or more (selected) geometries in a popup image window. This functionality is also available in the result set generated by an Identify command.
* New GeoRaptor Preferences:
-- Width and height in pixels of the new popup image window (displaying one or more geometry objects) can be set;
-- Colours of orphan, missing and correct metadata entries for Metadata Manager;
-- Prefixing with MDSYS for all currently supported spatial objects - sdo_geometry, sdo_point, sdo_elem_info, sdo_ordinates, sdo_dim_info - has been made an option.
-- There is now a new property called "Show Number Grouping Separator" in Tools>GeoRaptor>Visualisation.
If it is ticked a number will be formatted with the thousands separator in Tools>Database>NLS eg 10000.000 will display as 10,000.000.
* Sdo_Geometry display of all spaces in text between elements of the sdo_geometry array have been removed.
This was done mainly to compact the sdo_geometry strings so that they are as small as possible when displaying or copying to clipboard.
* Help pages added to the following dialogs with more to follow:
-- Metadata Manager,
-- Shapefile Importer and
-- Layer Properties dialogs.
* GeoRaptor menu entries renamed. New "Manage All Metadata" entry added to View>GeoRaptor menu.
* Spatial Index creation dialog now supports additional index parameters and parallel build settings.
* Metadata Manager overhauled:
a. Shows:
1. Metadata entries which have no underlying oracle object (orphan)
2. Metadata entries for existing underlying objects (existing case)
3. Database objects with sdo_geometry for which no metadata entry exists (new)
b. All orphan/existing/missing colours for (a) can be set via Preferences>GeoRaptor>Visualisation
c. All actions for main (bottom) metadata table are in a single right mouse click menu.
Some entries will only appear if a single row is selection (metadata copy), others (delete and copy to clipboard) will appear for one or more.
d. Can now switch between open connections to modify metadata of other objects in schemas other than the starting object.
e. Buttons revamped.
* Tab/Shapefile export:
a. Export now supports NULL valued columns. Can be exported as an empty string (if DBase override in GeoRaptor Preferences is ticked) or
as a predefined value eg NULL date => 1900-01-01 (set in new GeoRatptor Import/Export Preferences).
b. Some work attempted on export of NLS strings (still not corrected).
c. Objects with no rows now correctly processed.
* Shapefile Import
-- Bug relating to Linux file names corrected.
* Fixed issue (identified by John O'Toole) with spatial index underlying a view not being used in map display.
* Reinstated sdo_nn as the principal method for Identify (requested by John O'Toole).
* Fixed problem with handling single click zoom in and out in GeoRaptor map etc.
* Fixed problem with rendering lines from database item (identified by Vladimir Pek). The new "About GeoRaptor" should be read by all people installing GeoRaptor.
Please, please consider registering your email address with our private email list so that we can get a feel for the sorts of people downloading and installing GeoRaptor.
Please consider helping us with documentation or the internationalisation via translating properties files from English to your native language.
GeoRaptor is written and maintained by people who use SQL Developer and Spatial every day but we don't pretend we know everything that users want: please let us know via our feature request page at SourceForge.
We don't get paid for what we do so are always looking for additional help.
Here are some of the requests we have had for improvements:
1. MySQL access
2. WMS access;
3. Ability to import shapefile data into an existing table;
4. Ability to processing multiple shapefiles into separate tables (current version can import one or more into a single target table);
5. Ability to export/import layer definitions to give to others;
6. Support for non-English character sets for varchar exports to shapefiles. Some are relatively simply, some require a lot of engineering work. For the latter, we are considering alternative funding methods to the currently completely free development approach.

Principal GeoRaptor Developer
Edited by: Simon Greener on Sep 10, 2012 2:43 PMSimon,
I will admit, I almost never use SQL Developer. I have been a long time Toad user, but for this tool, I fumbled around a bit and got everything up and running quickly.
That said, I tried the new GeoRaptor tool using this tutorial (which is I think is close enough to get the jist). http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/georaptor/index.php?title=A_Gentle_Introduction:_Create_Table,_Metadata_Registration,_Indexing_and_Mapping
As I stumble around it, I'll try and leave some feedback, and probably ask some rather stupid questions.
Thanks for the effort,

SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87
Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?
Here is my About Detail;

Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
AddVMOption -Xms50M
AddVMOption -Xmx384M
AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
#AddVMOption -Xmx640M
#AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.
Tom -
Very difficult migration from MS Access to Oracle with SQL Developer
Dear Developers
I have tried to used for one Project Oracle Sql Developer Migration from Access to Oracle (Application Express). Was about an evaluation if Oracle Express (with Application Express) or Mysql (with PHP) as target database.
I am working with Oracle for 14 years and i earn my money in projects related with Oracle. Of course i am sentimental and i push every time when an opportunity comes to have as an option Oracle.
This time beside my sentimental approach the decision was different.
I will tell you why and i hope that someone there will listen and make something for a better Product.
I was trying yesterday the whole day to migrate an Microsoft Access database. A nightmare....
1. Microsoft Access Exporter 2000 was too slow. For a 25 MB Access database, running time was 15 Minutes. And 15 minutes to obtain an undocumented error. I followed your instruction and eliminate all references etc... as you described in HELP. a lot of time necessary to read and do..... After that i obtained an Error #..16. Sorry that i don't provide you with an exact number error. i don't have it right know and personally i am not interested anymore. For this error i don't find nothing in forums about it.... Search again and again..... Every time after waiting 15 Minutes in which you don't know exactly what application does or if really does something. I decided to delete sequentially macros, modules, forms, querys from Access database and see where Exporter stops... Time and time lost for trying and searching.... Finally i obtained my XML file only by keeping my Access tables. The file was produced even if i obtained at the end Error #5:..... Because was an error i am not really sure if the file was completly consistent with my database.
2. I followed the next steps and with some errors (enabling, disabling constraints, objects couldn't be created because of different reasons) i had my Model and Oracle Schema. I have tried to export the data from Access and import it in Oracle. data exported was in UTF8 and SQL Loader Control file doesn't have
LOAD DATA
character set utf8
So i tried to add the string "character set utf8" in my dozens of CTL files - with a freeware of course.....
Maybe you can say that if i knew that from the beginning i would have set my character set in SQL Developer. I don't know and i will not ever try with this product!
So finally after hours of working and trying and playing with my nerves, reading a lot of forums and documentation, i had an Oracle schema, maybe incomplete because of different errors at so much migration stages.
And now i have tried for the first time in my life MySQL Migration Toolkit. I read that for migration to MYSQL this tool is what i needed.
I recommend you to try the product and see something about the quality required for a piece of software. Is not enough if your product runs OK with Nortwind DEMO Access database. It should run OK with all ACCESS databases.
With the tool i have done the job in 5 MINUTES. Simple, efficiently and without errors. At the end i had the SQL Scripts and the DATA imported in the database.
Difficult to say something now. I am sentimental but i asked mysef if you can do something to improve the quality of the product.
What arguments can we provide for a client in Migration from Access to Oracle ???? Can you honestly answer at that?
Please try this MYSQL Migration Toolkit.....Maybe this give you some ideas about simple tasks and about what we really need...
Best regards
AdrianDear Barry and Kgronau
Thank you very much for your response. My Post was after a long day of trying to import an MDB file.
Maybe you can understand why i was so angry...
Yes i understand that your tool try to do more than other even if actually you don't really convert too much.
From Modules to make some procedures where the whole code is commented! .....
For other MDB which i tried to import in APEX the forms where really not usable. Queries are full of errors requires most of the time manual corrections.
I am sorry that i can not provide you with this MDB which cause these problems.
Data and software doesn't belong to me and the company which own it can not provide to you.
What i hope from your product is, even when errors come, to show a better error explanation. At what object in Access error ocures ? This is very important because i can correct my MDB or just delete the module, form, query in cause if SQL Developer doesn't like it....
Just showing an error Error #.... doesn't help me too much. And if an error occurs i don't know if program continues to work or is dead. No information about this. Maybe you can show that your application is alive and does something (working status etc...) ! Anyway we wait long minutes in front of dead screen....
Again, thank you very much for your attention

Tnsnames.ora file does not seem to load in SQL Developer
I've really tried my best to figure this out on my own ... through the Help, this forum, and Internet in general. I apoligize in advance for having to ask this, since I'm sure this is a common issue. This particular form entry was really close:
Database Connections will not load tnsnames.ora
But, I just can seem to figure out why, or where entries from my tnsnames.ora file are loading into SQL Developer.
- I have the TNS_ADMIN system environment variable defined to the directory where tnsnames.ora is stored - C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN.
- I do not see a TNS tab as the forum entry above indicates anywhere in SQL Developer - This may be my problem.
It seems that this issue could be cleared up with better directions on how to import tnsnames.ora entries into SQL Developer. Is there any specific direction on how to get your tnsnames.ora file setup correctly with SQL Developer running on Windows XP - Besides the Help which mentions the setup of TNS_ADMIN, but doesn't really tell you what the expected result is, or where the entries will be, or how to verify this is working?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

After testing in our environment, it appears that SQL Developer 1.5.1 (5440) does in fact ignore the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and ONLY looks in the Oracle Home directory (network/admin). We define a central network location for our tnsnames file and have the tns_admin setup to point there instead of locally for our users.
When selecting to add a new connection (in 1.5.1, it works in previously releases... meaning 1.2.something) and selecting TNS, the drop-down remains empty. However, if I exit SQL Developer and then copy the tnsnames file to the local network/admin directory I can then re-launch SQL Developer and the drop-down is populated. Exiting SQL Developer again, deleting the local copy of tnsnames, and then launching SQL Developer yet again results in the drop-down being empty.
All other Oracle-related applications function as expected (as they have for years) using the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
Any suggestions/ideas?
