SQL*LOADER에서 SEQUENCE 함수와 DECODE 함수 사용하는 방법
========================================================
PURPOSE
Unique한 DATA을 load하고자 할때 쓰이는 SEQUENCE () 함수와 DECODE 함수의
사용에 대해 알아보고자 한다.
Explanation
SEQUENCE(COUNT,increment) - table에 이미 존재하는 로우들을 count한 수에서
시작하여 increment 값만큼 증가한다.
SEQUENCE(MAX, increment - 해당 컬럼의 maximum 값에서 시작하여 increment
값만큼 증가한다.
Examples
< Sequence 함수 사용 예 >
1. sample table 생성
create table t1
(field1 number, field2 number, field3 varchar2(10));
2. controlfile생성
<sequence1.ctl>
load data
infile 'data1.dat'
into table t1
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
(field1 SEQUENCE(MAX,1),
field2,
field3 )
3. load할 datafile생성
<data1.dat>
1234, "ABC"
3456, "CDF"
4. 실행해 본다.
$ sqlldr scott/tiger sequence1.ctl
SQL> select * from t1;
FIELD1 FIELD2 FIELD3
1 1234 ABC
2 3456 CDF
< Decode 함수 사용 예 >
test1 column이 'hello'이면 'goodbye'을 아니면 test1 column값을 로드하고자 한다.
1. sample table 생성
create table testldr
(test1 varchar2(10), test2 varchar2(10));
2. controlfile생성
<decode1.ctl >
Load data
infile 'data2.dat'
into table testldr
fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"'
(test1,
test2 "decode(:test1, 'hello', 'goodbye', :test1)")
3. load할 datafile생성
<data2.dat>
hello,""
goodbye,""
hey,""
hello,""
4. 실행해 본다.
$ sqlldr scott/tiger decode1.ctl
SQL> select * from testldr;
SQL> select * from testldr;
TEST1 TEST2
hello goodbye
goodbye goodbye
hey hey
hello goodbye

  • SQL*Loader and DECODE function

    Hi All,
    I am loading data from data files into oracle tables and while loading the data using SQL*Loader, the following requirement needs to be fulfilled.
    1) If OQPR < 300, RB = $ 0-299, SC = "SC1"
    2) If 300 < OQPR < 1200, RB = $ 300-1199, SC = "SC2"
    3) If 1200 < OQPR < 3000, RB = $ 1200-2999, SC = "SC3"
    4) If OQPR > 3000 USD, RB = > $3000, SC = "SC4"
    Here OPQR is a field in the data file.
    Can anyone suggest how do we handle this using DECODE function? Triggers and PL/SQL functions are not to be used.
    TIA.
    Regards,
    Ravi.

    The following expression gives you different values for your different intervals and boundaries :
    SIGN(:OQPR - 300) + SIGN(:OQPR - 1200) + SIGN(:OQPR - 3000)

  • SQL*LOADER and decode

    I'm setting up a sql*loader script and trying to use the decode function as referred to in 'Applying SQL Operators to Fields' I'm getting an error message ' Token longer than max allowable length of 258 chars'. Is there a limit to the size of the decode statement within sql*loader - or is it better to use a table trigger to handle this on insert? I ran the decode statement as a select through SQL*Plus and it works okay there. Oracle 8.0 Utilities shows example of decode in Ch. 5, but Oracle 9i Utilities Ch. 6 does not. Has anyone done this and what's the impact on performance of the load if I can get it to work? See my example below:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'e2e_prod_cust_profile.csv'
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE APPS.RA_CUSTOMER_PROFILES_INTERFACE
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    (Insert_update_flag CHAR(1),
    Orig_system_customer_ref CHAR(240),
    customer_profile_class_name CHAR(30) NULLIF customer_profile_class=BLANKS
    "decode(customer_profile_class_name,
    'NORTHLAND Default','(MIA) Default',
    'NORTHLAND Non Consolidated','(MIA) Non Cons',

    'NORTHLAND Consolidated C','(MIA) Cons C',
    'NORTHLAND Consolidated D','(MIA) Cons D',
    'NORTHLAND Cons A NonZS','(MIA) Cons A NonZS',
    'NORTHLAND Cons B NonZS','(MIA) Cons B NonZS',
    'NORTHLAND Cons C NonZS','(MIA) Cons C NonZS',
    'NORTHLAND Cons D NonZS','(MIA) Cons D NonZS',

    SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 15.
    Token longer than max allowable length of 258 chars
    'NORTHLAND Consolidated D','(MIA) Cons D',
    ^

    Your controlfile is incomplete and has some typos, but you could try something like:
    create or replace function decode_profile_class_name (p_longname IN VARCHAR2)
    return VARCHAR2
    is
    begin
      CASE p_longname
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Default'               THEN RETURN '(MIA) Default';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Non Consolidated'      THEN RETURN '(MIA) Non Cons';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Consolidated A'        THEN RETURN '(MIA) Cons A';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Consolidated B'        THEN RETURN '(MIA) Cons B';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Consolidated C'        THEN RETURN '(MIA) Cons C';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Consolidated D'        THEN RETURN '(MIA) Cons D';
        WHEN 'NORTHLAND Cons A NonZS'          THEN RETURN '(MIA) Cons A NonZS';

      END CASE;
    end;

  • Help on SQL Loader Sequence

    Hi all,
    I am kind of wondering whether we can give same sequence number to the whole data file.
    Explanation:
    I need to load a data file into the table, i know how to use the sequence in Sql loader control file. But the problem is i need the same sequence number for every record that is inserted into the table from the Datafile,
    Say the datafile has 500 record
    and i need all the 500 records to have the same sequence number.
    when i load another datafile i need to have a different sequence number for all the records that are inserted into the table.
    Thanks in advance.

    Then you will have to look for a solution elsewhere - either the file will need to come preseeded with the value, or you will need to perform post-processing on the loaded data to add the constant value, or something else.

  • SQL loader sequence

    I am using SQL LOader and has used SEQUENCE Function to a column of the table in the control file
    That will create a new sequence number for each record.What I need is just one sequence number for each file. say 200 records. Records of particular file need to have same sequence number
    The next file will have another number...so on and so forth.
    Pls suggest if you have any idea on the same
    Thanks

    You've posted enough to know you need to provide your 4 digit Oracle version (result of SELECT * FROM V$VERSION).

    In 11g you could add a compound trigger on the table. Get the sequence value in the BEFORE statement section of the trigger and then use that value in the BEFORE ROW section of the trigger.

  • SQL*Loader issue with WHEN command

    Environment: R12.1.2
    We have a file coming in from a bank that needs to be loaded into a custom table using SQL*Loader.
    The file has multiple record formats. Each record in the file starts with a "record type", which defines the format.
    For simplicity, let me say that there is a record type of "H" with the header format, and another record type "D" has a detail record format. An "H" record may be followed by multiple "D" records until the next "H" record is encountered. Unfortunately, there is no common key, like say "Vendor Number" in both the "H" and "D" records to establish a relationship. So the plan was to use a Oracle sequence or SQL*Loader sequence to get a sequence loaded into the table as the file is being loaded. Then if consecutive "H" records had a sequence value of 100 and 112, we would know that the "D" records for the "H" 100 record are all the records with sequence value of 101 through 111.
    The issue occurs as we have to use the WHEN command in the control file to direct a certain record type to specific columns of the table. Based on the populated sequence values, with the WHEN command, it seems that all the "H" records get loaded first followed by the "D" records. The sequence becomes of no use and we cannot establish a link between the "H" and "D" records. The alternative is to not use WHEN with the sequence, but load the file into generic column names which provides for less understanding in the application.
    Is there a way (command feature) to ensure that SQL*Loader loads the records sequentially while using WHEN?
    Thanks
    Satish

    I used RECNUM parameter instead of sequence and it worked fine

  • Decode Not working in sql loader

    I had a requirement of loading flatfile into staging table using SQL Loader, One of the columns in the the Flat file is having values FALSE or TRUE and my requirement is that I load 0 for FALSE and 1 for TRUE which can be achieved by simple DECODE function...I did use decode and tried to load several times but did not work. What might be the problem
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'sql_4ODS.txt'
    BADFILE 'SQL_4ODS.badtxt'
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE members
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "|"
    ( Person_ID,
    FNAME,
    LNAME,
    Contact,
    status "decode(:status, 'TRUE', '1','FALSE','0')"
    I did try putting a trim as well as SUBSTR but did not work....the cloumn just doent get any values in the output (just null or say free space)
    Any help would be great.....

    Hello user8937215.
    Please provide a create table statement and a sample of data file contents. I would expect DECODE or CASE to work based on the information provided.
    Cheers,
    Luke

  • Sql*loader and sequence() for primary keys

    I have a question regarding SQL*Loader with the sequence() function and using it for a primary key to load records in multiple tables from one input record. I am pulling data from a delimited file and populating several tables from each row. For the primary key, I am using the sequence function.
    For the first table (the parent), I use sequence(40000,1) for the key. Since the remaining inserts are based on the same logical record, I use sequence(40000,1) for those too (one record for each month). The problem comes in when a child record does not pass a WHEN clause (the amount is zero). Then it almost seems as if the parent record is not loaded and the child (or children) that does pass the WHEN clause are assigned to the next parent! Obviously, the sequence is getting out of sync between the children and the parent.
    I've looked in the documentation and tried several different ways to attack this problem. Is there a bug in SQLLDR (8.1.7) or is it just my coding.
    I will try to include the files below but they are very large.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the reply .. user do have their user credentials but only for the application ... but all users use a common loader and control file once they log into the application. So irrespective of which user is logged in he selects the same control file and loads to the same table mentioned in the control file .. i instead want user to be able to load to the table in control file but into his schema like username.tablename instead of just the tablename mentioned in .ctl file.

  • Using Sequence in SQL Loader

    Hi,
    Does anybody know if I can generate the unique primary key using an Oracle Sequence for a Database table to which I am inserting records in SQL Loader?
    I checked the SQL Loader manual and there is no information as to how to make use of a Oracle sequence.. in the control file?
    Thanks
    Surajit

    Yes, you can do it. Create the sequence (suppose you call it "PK_SEQ_X") and then in your control file reference it as "PK_SEQ_X.NEXTVAL". For example suppose you wanted to put it into a column named 'Y' the entry in your control file will look like 'load data insert into table Z (Y "PK_SEQ_X.NEXTVAL", ....)'
    Note that the double quotes around the sequence name are required.

  • Using oracle sequence in SQL Loader

    I'm using oracle sequence in control file of sql loader to load data from .csv file.
    Controlfile:
    LOAD DATA APPEND
    INTO TABLE PHONE_LIST
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," TRAILING NULLCOLS
    PHONE_LIST_ID "seqId.NEXTVAL",
    COUNTRY_CODE CHAR,
    CITY_CODE CHAR,
    BEGIN_RANGE CHAR,
    END_RANGE CHAR ,
    BLOCKED_FREE_FLAG CHAR
    Datafile:
    1516,8,9,9,B
    1517,1,1,2,B
    1518,8,9,9,B
    1519,8,9,9,B
    1520,8,9,9,B
    1521,8,9,9,B
    1) As first column uses oracle sequence, we have not defined that in datafile.
    This gives me error "Can not insert NULL value for last column"
    Is it mandatory to specify first column in datafile, even though we are using sequence?
    2) Another table is referencing PHONE_LIST_ID column (the one for which we using sequence) of this table as a foreign key.
    So is it possible to insert this column values in other table simultaneously? Sequence no. should be same as it is in first table...
    Kindly reply this on urgent basis....

    use BEFORE INSERT trigger
    with
    select your_seq.nextval into :new.id from dual;

    I don't think so.
    SQL> create table t (
      2  rowid number);
    rowid number)
    ERROR at line 2:
    ORA-00904: : invalid identifierPlease post your version number and the DDL for the table.
    Best practice in Oracle is to NEVER, EVER, store a ROWID: They can change.
    After you have solved the first problem, that you've never actually built the table, the solution to the sequence use is to make the call in your DML.
    INSERT INTO t (testcol) VALUES (<sequence_name>.NEXTVAL);

  • SQL Loader : Trim and Decode functions help please

    Hi,
    I have to load data from a flat file, for some columns i need to use TRIM and DECODE functions.It is a pipe delimited file.
    I get syntax errors (one is below) same error listed for TRIM.
    SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line xx.
    Expecting "," or ")", found "DECODE".
    ===========
    ,FINAL_BILL_DATE CHAR(30) "TRIM(:FINAL_BILL_DATE)"
    ,BUSINESS_ID "DECODE(:BUSINESS_ID,'B',1,'C',2,'E',3,'G',4,'O',5,'R',6,'T',7,'U',8,'H',9,-1)"
    Can anyone please help.
    Thanks
    Cherrish

    Hello Cherrish.
    The error you are receiving leads me to believe that at some point prior to the DECODE on the line for BUSINESS_ID, probably some line even before the FINAL_BILL_DATE line, there a syntactical error causing the quotes before the DECODE to actually terminate some other syntax. Without all of the lines that could actually contribute to this, including the header details, this is the best I can advise.
    Hope this helps,
    Luke

  • Cannot get Oracle sequence to be used with SQL Loader direct path load.

    I attempted to load approximately 3 million rows from a flat file into a 10g database using SQL Loader direct path load. In order to generate a primary key for each of these rows I used a simple SQL expression which gets the next number of an Oracle sequence and assigned that to my primary key column inside the control file. The strange thing is no primary key was generated for each of these columns as I see the sequence was not advanced. Furthermore when I try to run a query to find the count on those rows which have this column as NOT NULL ,I get the total of all the rows even though on inspection this column is empty in each of the rows.
    As far as I know, in the control file for a direct path load I am able to use a SQL Expression that returns simple scalar data which a NEXTVAL on a sequence does. (Oreilly Oracle SQL Loader The Definitive Guide p.184)
    Does anybody why my primary key was not generated and furthermore why is this column in a query appear to be NOT NULL when in fact it has nothing in it?

    Daniel,
    I appreciate your response alot.
    Now a follow on. You say that SQL*Loader is the fastest way to get data into Oracle Spatial even though the conventional path. How does SQL*Loader do this? Doesn't it use OCI?
    I just can't help but think that coverting my data to SQL*Loader format, and then having it parse it and send it to the database in some form must be slower than me just sending whatever SQL Loader sends to the DB myself using OCI. Am I missing something?
    The SQL Loader documentation seems to suggest that SQL*Loader just turns the input into alot of INSERT stateemnts. If so, can't I just do this?
    My performance with OCI and INSERT statements isn't very good, but I believe I am doing one transaction per insert. Might I be as well off to concentrate on fine tuning my OCI based code using INSERTs?
    I will actually do some time tests myself, but I would appreciate your opinion.
    Once again thanks for the great info you have provided.
