Sql performance in oracle 11g
Hi all
we have oracle 11 rel2 database 11.20.3.0 on windows
application is using delphi to connect via ole db driver
first time sql runs it takes time to run in process
and in subsequent runs it runs faster than previous runs
the person coding in delphi who is more of sql server background than dba asking why it running faster
cursor_sharing=similar
memory_target =40gb
db_cache_size=12GB
shared_pool_size=8GB
bascially first run the sql is not in cache so it reads from disk and in subsequent runs the sql is available so it runs more efficient
any links which could help the developer understand
Yes, it runs faster the second time because things are cached in memory instead of having to be read from disk. It could also be that the second time, the query doesn't have to be parsed and thus saves time.
Tracing and tkprof would show you actual hard and fast numbers to explain exactly what happened.

SQL performance slow -- oracle 10g to oracle 11g
Hi,
We are have two development server, here we can call server10 and server11.
Server’s having same hardware and OS, but different oracle version, server 10 and server 11 having oracle 10g and oracle 11g respectively.
Problem, when you run sql query in oracle 11g it’s very slow compare to oracle 10g server.
Here I have checked
1) sga size – comparatively 11g size is big
2) no full table scan
OS – SUN
DB: 11.1.0.7.0, 10.2.0.4.0mmee wrote:

Please try to post the tkprof output of the trace of both. The reason for this that explain plan may lie to us about what has happened but trace would be the real picture only.

How do I migrate views from MS SQL 2008 to Oracle 11g through SQL Developer
Is there any way to migrate the views from MS SQL 2008 to Oracle 11g through SQL Developer? Please give me some detail steps. Thanks for your help.

Hi Turloch,
When I use migrate to oracle, I got a problem, the migrate tool create a new schema for me in my case (AZTECA_KSMMS), it migrates all the stuffs under that schema (AZTECA_KSMMS). However my application need the all the Oracle data under schema AZTECA instead of AZTECA_KSMMS. Is there any way to specify specific schema (AZTECA) for target oracle database? Schema remapping is available:
First Capture (separately) then during right click convert on the captured model there is a Specify the conversion options with a Object Naming tab where the schema (and other) name changes are editable.
I have not used this recently.
Also during the migration process, when I choose repository, there is a check box for truncate to reset repository to empty state, Do I need to check that truncate Check Box so the repository will be cleared from last migration?The repository can hold multple migration attempts. Check truncate to get rid of previous attempts information. This cleans up the repository - not the destination database.
There are also online database and offline database options during the migration process, what are the difference between these two choices? After I migrated to Oracle, all my views has a red cross icon next to it. Does that mean the view migration is failed or not? Please give me your comments. Thanks for your help.offline: for big (amount of data) databases with simple data types,
uses bcp + files + scripts + sqlldr.
online: for small (amount of data) databases (easier),
uses (Java) jdbc.
The view is likely to be broken - recompiling it may help.
The Oracle schema is created using a .sql file - see under generated in the directory you gave originally in the wizard. There is a .out file that contains the result of running this script including any errors. During conversion there are also likely to be warnings displayed on the UI.
There may be a single issue that is causing multiple issues - if viewa depends on functionb, and functionb is broken, viewa will also fail.

Primavera 6.2 SQL Database to Oracle 11g migration
Hi,
I used the migration tool to migrate a Primavera 6.2 SQL database to Oracle 11G DB. The migration tool runned successfully and I am able to login to the database using P6.2 client with no problem; however when attemptiong to update the license on the now Oracle database using the privuser account I get the following error "License could not be loaded because of error: List index out of bounds (247). Please make sure that you are using a privileged database login" the error comes up before I can browse to the location of licesne.txt file. Same procedure on a "native" Oracle P6.2 database works perfectly with no problem. Has any one run into this problem before? any help will be appreciated.

Best Reagrds,I have not seen that specifically but it appears that not all of the grants were correctly applied.
I would suggest running the schema validation tool which can be found on the knowledgebase as Solution ID: prim75459 as this will tell you what is missing/invalid.
Once you know that, you can pull the neccesary grants from the create scripts located in the cd1\install\database\scripts folder. -

Ignore - SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER of 11g (dulpicate question)
I am using 11g on Windows 2000, I want to run SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER to see the impact of init.ora parameter changes on some sql’s. Currently, I am using it in a test environment, but eventually I want to apply it to production environment.
Let us say I want to see the effect of different values for db_file_muntilbock_readcount.
When I run this in my database, will the values changed impact only the session where I am running sql performance analyzer, or will it impact any other sessions, which are accessing the same database instance during the analysis period. I think, it impacts only the session where SQL Performance analyzer is being run, but want to make sure that is the case? I am not making any changes to paremeters myself using alter satementsm but Oracle is changing the parameters behind the scenes as part of its analysis,
Appreciate your feedback.

When you change in init parameter you change the parameter for everybody. -
Problem with getting started with the SQL Developer in oracle 11g
I downloaded the oracle 11g from the oracle site and installed it on my machine.Now i want to write the sql queries and practise them......so i tried this:start\oracle11gHome\ApplicationDevelopment\Sqldeveloper . But I get a messagebox with a browse button asking me to "Enter the full pathname for java.exe"
what is this all about?Do i need to install jave in my host machine?
how to solve this problem?hi
If you are asked to enter the full pathname for java.exe, click Browse and find java.exe. For example, the path might have a name similar to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin\java.exe.

Problems While Performing Switchover Oracle 11g
Hi All,
I am using Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 version.
I have a Primary-Physical Standby setup(Test Environment). I am performing a switchover between them.
I have followed the below steps:-
ON Primary:-
SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
SWITCHOVER_STATUS
TO STANDBY
SQL> alter database commit to switchover to physical standby;
Database altered.
SQL> shutdown immediate;
ORA-01507: database not mounted
ORACLE instance shut down.
SQL> startup mount;
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 2054373376 bytes
Fixed Size 2214856 bytes
Variable Size 1174406200 bytes
Database Buffers 872415232 bytes
Redo Buffers 5337088 bytes
Database mounted.
SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
SWITCHOVER_STATUS
TO PRIMARY
SQL> select database_role from v$database;
DATABASE_ROLE
PHYSICAL STANDBY
On the other side I am trying to bring up the phyical standby database to primary:-
First I checked the switchover_status on standby database.
SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
SWITCHOVER_STATUS
SWITCHOVER PENDING
SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;
alter database commit to switchover to primary
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-16139: media recovery required
Now I am in a situation where I have converted my primary to physical standby but physical standby-Primary is not happening..
Please advice me on this. I have checked the archive log status for both the boxes before switchover and they were in sync....
Your suggestions are required here.
Regards,
ArijitHi ,
With above approch there could be minor transaction loss & Need to rebuild stby , but you can make standby DB up as primary.
With current senario , check if suggested sequence is generated at primary & try to register it on stby
Also check if FAL_* is getting resolved
It looks sync issue you should have rebooted both DB's before starting switchover as a best practise along with 2/3 switches
Thanks,
Ajay More

New To Oracle.. Needs Help:: Conversion from SQL Server to Oracle 11g
I am new to Oracle 11g and badly need the conversion of SQL Server Functions to Oracle.. Sample Pasted Code not working .. end with error.. pls help

RETURN REFCURSOR;
END;
LAST FUNCTION ENDs WITH ERROR
Error(13,7): PL/SQL: ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item2. The major purpose is to get a simplest way to create a parameterized function who can return a table like output. 2nd function has no use instead i was testing the result of First Function like thisIf you just want to select from a select, you should use a view not a function.
1. which program is more help ful for writing and executing queries bcoz after using Query Analyzer of Microsoft It seems difficult to work on SQL Developer.
sqlplus? If you are having difficulty learning new tools because of an old one you used, probably best to forget the old one and concentrate on learning the new one because it will be different. This goes for the database itself also.
2. Can DMLs be used within a Function.Yes, you just can't execute the function in another SQL statement if it modifies data and this is a good thing.
3. Can temporary tables be used within a function.Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't be unless you are in a slowest application competition.
5. Each Function which is a Table Function must be accompanied with Type Definitions?? its a bit longer way of doing the things than SQL ServerThat is why it is better to use views instead, is there any reason you want a select that you can select from inside a function?
SQL Server for last 9 years thats why i refer this toolThat is not in itself a problem, if you try and do what you did in SQLServer in Oracle, that will be a problem though. -

Any one have some ideas what i should test or change?
/Jens Bäckström (Noob)DbaThe second database IOTEST is a small test db.
This is how i did the test
i stopped the DWRPD01 wich is the dw database.
i start the IOTEST DATABSE and run the iops script.
after the run i stoped IOTEST and started DWPRD02 and run the same script.
i am sure the database files was on the same san disk group . but ofc i can not besure that the data be on the same physical disk in the SAN cabinett.
Ill check ur other questions as soon as i have some ansvers
and thanks for helping me out.

Hello,
Im receiving an sqlldr: not found error. Im getting ready to talk with our System Admin about the situation. Before I do I wanted to make sure that SQL Loader (sqlldr) is an available add-on for the Oracle 11 client. A co-worker mentioned that SQLLDR may not be available as an add-on in the Oracle 11 client and that we would need to use IMPORT/EXPORT instead. Is this a true statement?
Can someone please clarify these issues for me?
Thanks a bunch!SQL*Loader is certainly available in either the 11.1 or 11.2 full client install. It may or may not be a component that is installed by default depending on the type of install you select during the installation process. But you can always go back and install that component.
If you are talking about the Instant Client, I'm not sure that either SQL*Loader or import and export work with the Instant Client.
And just to point it out, if you're using 11g, you would generally want to be using external tables rather than SQL*Loader.

Comples SQL performance issues in 11g
We are facing Performance Issues for a Complex SQL in Version 11.2. But earlier in 11.1 this SQL is performing well..
We dont have previous versions SQL Plan for this SQL Statement.
We Dont want to rewrite the SQL as this SQL has performed Well in previous versions.
Do we need to change the optimizer parameters so that the Query will be tuned automatically.
Please help me outIf you're licensed for the SQL Tuning Pack, you could run the query through the SQL Tuning Advisor see if it can improve.
It will probably recommend a SQL profile which you can accept.
You could also hint the SQL directly - you might just want to look at /*+ OPT_PARAM('OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLE','11.1.0.x') */ 'x' depending on your exact 11.1 version.
You could alter the session, set optimizer_features_enable and capture a SQL profile manually for the 11.1 plan.
You could do some root cause analysis as suggested by Karthick.
