SQL Server 2000/CFMX 7 - connection refused: connect

Hi all,
I have been trying to troubleshoot this for a few weeks now,
I have looked high and low and tried multiple solutions that worked
for other people, none have worked for me.
I have SQL Server 2000 Version 8 and Coldfusion 7.0.2.
I can't seem to make a database connect in Administrator. I
have tried changing the port that SQL Server listens on, I made a
new security role in SQL Server specifically for the database I'm
creating, I tried making an ODBC connection (which can see the SQL
Server) in windows then connecting to that, nothing is working.
I thought it might be the windows firewall, it isn't since it
is off, my TCP/IP protocol is enabled, I am running out of ideas.
If anyone can suggest anything, please do this is what I see
everytime.
Connection verification failed for data source: IFDA
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket.
Connection refused: connect
I'm dying over here.
Thanks.

This might be a dumb question, but have you searched Google
groups? Its one of the first places I go when I get error messages
I don't understand.
Googling this:
"java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect"
..gave me 84 results (ok, a lot of them point back to these
forums but I still find searching thru Google easier than using the
built in search) - here's a
Link
hth - cheers.

  • SQL Server 2000 Driver. No connection to Database

    I'm using VisualAge 4.0 with JDK 1.2.2
    This is the command:
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection ( "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.111.0.18:1020;DatabaseName=Test","sa","");
    This error occures: Cannot open database requested in login'Test'
    Why do I get the error: Error open/loading com.microsoft.util.transliteration.properties if i don't write DatabaseName = Test in the url????
    Do I have to change the ODBC Data Source/system DSN ??

    Your example is OK. You use "direct driver", so you don't need to change DSN. Check URL, database name, user_name....
    But - default port for MSSQL is 1433, not 1020.

    Hi,
    You have two options, you can use DB Connect but you need SAP DBSL for SQL Server 2000 and the DB Client and this could be have a additional cost, or you can use UD Connect, that make the connection with Java, using JCo's and the Driver Java for SQL Server 2000, please review this link: [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/58f4db47-0501-0010-a2bf-ff01b150fdff|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/58f4db47-0501-0010-a2bf-ff01b150fdff]
    I recomend if you dont have the SAP DBSL and DB Client for SQL Server 2000 that use UD Connect is really useful.

    I added the 3 .jar files msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar and msutil.jar to the System variables but it is not working. Is there any syntax for adding these .jar files to the System Variables?
    Please, help me and give me the solution for establishing the connection and loading the driver class. If I am doing anything wrong then please, tell me the right step.
    I am developing a project on Java and I have very little time left to accomplish it. Please help me.
    Thankyou.

    I had already given the .jar files to the User variables and System Variables but the driver class is still not loading. I had simply given the .jar file name for instance, msbase.jar;mssqlserver.jar;msutil.jar and also tried the path of .jar files i.e., C:\Microsoft SQL Server\-----------\lib\msbase.jar;C:\-------------lib\mssqlserver.jar;C:\----------------\lib\msutil.jar; but, both ways are not working. When I installed the MS SQL Server 2000 then in the lib folder, the 3 JAR files were not installed then, I downloaded a driver for MS SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC sp2, then, the JAR files were installed. Then, I copied those files to the lib folder of MS SQL Server and gave that path to the User and System Variables but it didn't work then I gave the original path of files where they are installed i.e., of the Driver's path which I downloaded from Microsoft but still now, my problem is not solved. Please help me.

    Don't know if anyone is still having problems with this, but just in case...
    I was getting a similar error. I had an Event Viewer record (It wasn't a Warning or an Error, just an Information) reading:You are running a version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (also called MSDE) that has known security vulnerabilities when used in conjunction with this version of Windows. To reduce your computer's vulnerability to certain virus attacks, the TCP/IP and UDP network ports of Microsoft SQL Server 2000, MSDE, or both have been disabled. To enable these ports, you must install a patch, or the most recent service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or MSDE from http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/default.asp

    I installed SQL SP4 and it corrected the problem

  • Connection with SQL Server 2000 to SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench

    Hi all,
    I keep getting the following error with setup for SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench connection to SQL Server 2000 database:
    "Status: Failure -Network error IOException: Connection refused:connect"
    I can access the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database with username
    and password using Enteprise Manager. However for some odd
    reason the Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 cannot connect to it.

    I was having this problem too. I'll mangle this explanation, but Our SQLServer instance was on a local server with some named DNS something. So, to get to the server, we used theservername.outdomain instead of an IP. We could never get it to connect through the named server. We got an SQLServer instance going on a server that we could connect to through a regular IP, and it connected just fine.
    Also, are you using the JTDS driver, or microsofts driver? We have only been able to connect with the JTDS driver. http://jtds.sourceforge.net/

  • Creating a connection to MS SQL Server 2000...

    Hi ,
    Using the :
    1)Oracle SQL Developer 1.1.3 and 1.2.1 ,
    2)MS SQL Server 2000 - both db and agent are running ,
    I cannot create a connection to MS SQL Server (error: "Failure - Network Error IO Exception : Connection refused : connect").
    Both software - and Oracle DB , as well- have been installed on the same server(Win XP) and i have deactivated the firewall , without the desired result....
    Also the server is standalone and does have a static IP Address....
    What can I do ...????
    Thanks....
    Sim

    I have also downloaded and installed the SQL Developer 1.5.0.53.
    When i declare the same settings to SQL SERVER DB - as in the other SQL Developer versions(1.1.3 and 1.2.1)- I get a different error message..:
    "Failure - Cannot connect to SQL Server on localhost" - whereas in the other versions i get[i] "Failure - Network Error IO Exception : Connection refused : connect".
    When i declare another host name (one that does not exist , for example "localhost1") then the error message is :"Failure : Unknown host name localhost1".
    So ,the above tests may show that the error seems to be in the port setting....however , i cannot verify it since the port setting is 1433 - the one i declare in the connection.
    Do you have an idea....????
    I would be grateful if somebody could provide some 'light'.....!!!!

  • Can not read Chinese data when DB Connect to SQL server 2000

    Hi,
       Our BW server( BW3.5 not unicode ) is installed on MS SQL server 2000. We try to connect the BW SQL server with db connect function. We create some test views in the Northwind DB. We are be able to access data from source system in rsa1 by db connect. The problem is that all the Chinese characters are displayed as ?????. Is there any special setting for accessing multibyte characters in MS SQL server 2000? Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

    The field of VIEW in the sqlserver which code is chinese must be the nvarchar.
    You can try it.

    I'd recommend that you not use the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver to connect to SQL Server. M$ and jTDS are two free type IV JDBC drivers that you should use instead. Put those JARs in the WEB-INF/lib directory.
    The database URL you're using is not correct if you change drivers. Consult the docs to find out what the proper syntax is.

  • Creating a connection pool using SQL Server 2000, Sun ONE Application Serve

    Has any one succesfully configured SQL Server 2000 to work with Sun ONE Application Server 7 on Windows 2000 server service pack 4? I am embarking on a new J2EE project and I need to configure it as soon as possible.
    The problem I am having is that, when I ping the data souce name, there is a connection error.
    I have set the data source name and other details as follows:
    Under JDBC, I have set the parameters for the connection pool as follows:
    Data Source Name:      com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    Database Name:          jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=Test
    User:               test
    Password:          test
    In the JVM settings page, I have set the prefix class path as follows for the location of the Microsoft JDBC
    drivers that I downloaded as follows:
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/msbase.jar
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/msutil.jar
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/mssqlserver.jar
    Under JVM Options, there is a strange setting which I don't understand: perhaps this is the cause of the
    connction error?
    -Djdbc.drivers=com.pointbase.jdbc.jdbcUniversalDriver

  • How can i connect to a SQL Server 2000 database usgin JSP?

    I need (URGENT) to connect to SQL Server 2000 databse using JSP. I do not know how to program using JSP, so if anyone has any code snippet please let me see it. What i need is to give my site some login/password security.
    Anyone?
    Thx.

    just create an ODBC of your database from control pannel -> administrative tools -> data sources (ODBC) ,double click it .....
    go to the tab SYstem DSN , click on ADD button. select the driver for your connection. it will be the last one in the list "SQL Server".
    click Next then give ur DSN name there, description and Server Name , on next give your username and password of SQL server. when it will be connected to the server celect your database from there and hence there will be an ODBC bridge same as in case of MS Access.
    code for connecting to ODBC is
    // DSN-NAME same as in System DSN.
    // username and password are of your databse
    try
              url = "jdbc:odbc:DSN-NAME";
              Class.forName( "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver" );
              connect = DriverManager.getConnection( url,"username","password" );
              catch ( ClassNotFoundException cnfex ) {
                        setErrorMsg( cnfex.getMessage() );
              catch ( SQLException sqlex ) {
                        setErrorMsg( sqlex.getMessage() );
              catch ( Exception ex ) {
                        setErrorMsg( ex.getMessage() );
    Now you are connected to the SQL Server ..... use connect object for further processing .........

  • Connect to MS SQL Server 2000 data warehouse

    Hi,
    I use a MS SQL Server 2000 database for my web application where I use JSP. I suppose to create data warehouse using MS SQL Server's Data Transformation Service. But I don't know it's possible to connect to a MS SQL Server's data warehouse using JSP. So I want to know is it possible to connect to data warehouse using JSP and if it is how to do it? Thank you.

    You can certainly connect to M$ SQL Server using the JDBC driver:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4f8f2f01-1ed7-4c4d-8f7b-3d47969e66ae&displaylang=en
    Connecting to a data warehouse is no different from any relational database. (My understanding is that a data warehouse usually means a star schema implemented in a relational database.) This will connect you.
    If you're not familiar with JDBC, you might need the tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/

    11.2 is beta at the moment. There is no official release date so far.
    As DG4ODBC is independant from the Oracle database (or the target database) you can use a 3 machine model:
    On the first machine you have your Oracle database, on a second machine running 32bit Windows you can install DG4ODBC and on the 3rd machine you can run your foreign database.
    If the SQL Server 2k is installed on a 32bit Windows machine, then you can also install DG4ODBC on this machine.
    In general the connection from an Oracle database to the DG4ODBC machine is done using SDQL*Net. The listener responsible for DG4ODBC will then load the DG4ODBC executable which will connect to the SQL Server using SQL Server ODBC driver.
