Sql server is using memory more then there max memory setting?

Hi All,
today i have faced the different issue..........
we have one SQl server 2008 prod server... it have memory issue actually  total server memory is 8GB and we have allocated the 6 GB to SQL server,we checked the server no open trans and dont have running jobs also, one database is using the memory high(no
open trans)... but Sql server has used 6.5 GB (6 GB) and total server used memory is reached to 7.89 GB.
Please tell me how to find the most costly query in particular database wise and sql server internally behavior ?
how to troubleshot the  above issue?
please post the your valuable answers ASAP...
Thanks,
RAM

Please refer to what Olaf said briefly.Buffer pool in SQL server only caters to memory requests which requires pages <8 KB . Almost all requests are satisfies by buffer pool and generally request for memory is small and so buffer pool satisfies the requests.
However there are some direct memory allocation by windows API which is done by windows for requests which  requires memory greater than 8 KB. This memory wont come from buffer pool and this would be counted in memory utilized by SQL server. SQL
CLR,XML, linked Server, all takes memory outside buffer pool in SQL Server 2008. This behavior changed in 2012 so my statement only applies to SQL server 2005/2008 and 2008 R2.
I would run below to check SQL server memory utilization.
select
(physical_memory_in_use_kb/1024)Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB,
(locked_page_allocations_kb/1024 )Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB,
(total_virtual_address_space_kb/1024 )Total_VAS_in_MB,
process_physical_memory_low,
process_virtual_memory_low
from sys. dm_os_process_memory
I am sure you must be using some features mentioned above. You were worried that even though there is no query running on SQL server it has still holded up the memory. This is default behavior and this is how memory management in SQL Server works. It will
not release memory untill SQLOS asks it to do so which is told by windows OS thorugh some flag that it is facing memory pressure.
Please read below for more details on memory. There is section to test whether system is facing memory crunch please read that as well.

  • How can I load a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS?

I know I've REALLY struggled with this before. I just don't understand why this has to be soooooo difficult.
I can very easily do a straight Data Pump of a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a normal Excel Connection and a normal Excel Source...simply converting Unicode to DT_STR and then using an OLE DB Destination of the SQL Server Table.
If I want to make the SSIS Package a little more flexible by allowing multiple .xlsX spreadsheets to be pumped in by using a Foreach Loop Container, the whole SSIS Package seems to go to hell in a hand basket. I simply do the following...
Put the Data Flow Task within the Foreach Loop Container
Add the Variable Mapping Variable User::FilePath that I defined as a Variable and a string within the FOreach Loop Container
I change the Excel Connection and its Expression to be ExcelFilePath ==> @[User::FilePath]
I then try and change the Excel Source and its Data Access Mode to Table Name or view name variable and provide the Variable Name User::FilePath
And that's when I run into trouble...
    Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]:SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occured. Error code: 0x80004005.
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]: Opening a rowset for "...(the EXACT Path and .xlsx File Name)...". Check that the object exists in the database. (And I know it's there!!!)
I don't understand by adding a Foreach Loop Container to try and make this as efficient as possible has caused such an error unless I'm overlooking something. I have even tried delaying my validations and that doesn't seem to help.
I have looked hard in Google and even YouTube to try and find a solution for this but for the life of me I cannot seem to find anything on pumping a .xlsX file into SQL Server using a Foreach Loop Container.
Can ANYONE please help me out here? I'm at the end of my rope trying to get this to work. I think the last time I was in this quandry, trying to pump a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS, I actually wrote a C# Script
to write the contents of the .xlsX File into a .csv File and then Actually used the .csv File to pump the data into a SQL Server Table.
Thanks for your review and am hoping and praying for a reply and solution.

    Hi ITBobbyP,
If I understand correctly, you want to load data from multiple sheets in an .xlsx file into a SQL Server table.
If in this scenario, please refer to the following tips:
The Foreach Loop container should be configured as shown below:
Enumerator: Foreach ADO.NET Schema Rowset Enumerator
Connection String: The OLE DB Connection String for the excel file.
    Schema: Tables.
In the Variable Mapping, map the variable to Sheet_Name, and change the Index from 0 to 2.
The connection string for Excel Connection Manager is the original one, we needn’t make any change.
Change Table Name or View name to the variable Sheet_Name.
If you want to load data from multiple sheets in multiple .xlsx files into a SQL Server table, please refer to following thread:

  • SQL Server synonym used in two ways, local table and Oracle table via ODBC, fails on ODBC

I am implementing a Web Site at our institution that was written for another institution that was all SQL Server. The Web Site has included as a feature the use of synonyms which have a dual use. Normally they point to a different machine, different database (PeopleSoft)
via linked server, but if the linked server connection fails they can be switched to point to tables on the local instance by running a stored procedure that redefines the synonyms. This is a failover feature meant to keep the site up by resorting to
possibly out of date data if need be.
This means that any SQL Select statement that uses one of these synonyms is unaware of whether the data returned comes from the local instance or from another remote instance. There is no logic to check whether the linked server is functioning or not.
The local instance is a custom SQL Server database at both institutions. The remote instance is one of two PeopleSoft instances at both shops; however, while the original website was written to work with the remote instance being SQL Server,
our shop uses Oracle for PeopleSoft. This means that our linked servers are further complicated by an ODBC connection that the original site did not need.
The problem I have is that the SQL statements in the stored procedures that came with the Web Site do not work when a synonym is used that points to the remote PeopleSoft instance. The same statements also fail in SSMS.  I get this error when I run
this statement (select * from PS_ZZ_BUD_JOB_VW):
Error: The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "CSUPG" does not contain the table
""dbo"."PS_ZZ_BUD_JOB_VW"". The table either does not exist or the current user does not have  permissions on that table.
I can successfully query the PeopleSoft database using openquery, but unless I can get the synonyms to work as they were intended to, I'll have to rewrite all the stored procedures that use them to: 1) check if the linked servers are up, then 2) execute
one of two versions of each SQL statement depending on the result of that check.

Will the four-part notation work when the synonym is pointing to the local SQL Server table ?
You should not use four-part notation when you reference your synonym. The four-part query that I suggested is only one you would to determine to define our synonym correctly when the view is on the Oracle server.
In the case of synonym PS_ZZ_BUD_JOB_VW, it can point to either an Oracle view of the same name, or to a local SQL Server table named PS_HR_JOB.
Then the table is local the synonuym definition should be
    CREATE SYNONYM PS_ZZ_BUD_JOB_VW FOR dbo.PS_HR_JOB

  • Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.
    Best Regards!
    Irfan

    Irfan,
If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
    Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

  • How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3?

How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3, if it's possible at all?
Also, I received a SQL Server dump file of some sort. Is there any way to read this file in SQL Developer and migrate the db to Oracle? Unfortunately I don't have raw DDL and DML for this database--just some sort of a binary dump file from SQL Server.
    Thanks.
    Dana

Are you using SQL Developer 1.5.3 or 1.5.4?
If using an older version (i.e. 1.5.3), then you'll have to add a DLL to your environment. This is [ntlauth.dll].
If you don't find this DLL in your SQL Developer directory, then obtain the JDBC SQL SERVER Pluggin (jtds-1.2.2-dist.zip) from:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33291&package_id=25350
Copy the ntlmauth.dll in the ...\\...\ide\lib directory (no need to register it).
Note: this approach should work if using DQL Developer 1.5.3 and SQL Server Express 2008

    M. R.

  • Problem when connecting sql server 2005 using SQL developer

    Hi,
I installed Sql developer and I am trying to connect sql server 2005 using windows authentication. I had previously the SSO folder problem saying the path is missing in java.library.path. I copied the SSO folder into Sqldeveloper directory. I changed the settings under computer management->services and applications->sql server configuration manager->sql server 2005 network configuration ->protocols for sqlexpress->I enabled TCP/IP.
Now I am getting an error saying "Failure-can not open user default database.Login Failed. Login failed for user ...".
I am able to connect thru ODBC driver using windows authentication.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lakshmi

    Hi Martin,
Your solution has solved my problem too. Thanks for posting these workaround fixes :-)
However, there seem to be a problem with datetime fields. The query:
    select getdate()
    returns something like: oracle.datetimestamp.@1aed4
Is there a way to get around with this? Otherwise, using SQL Developer as a client for SQL Server doesn't serve the right purpose when we cannot access simple date fields :-)

  • How to add byte[] array based Image to the SQL Server without using parameter

how to add byte[] array based Image to the SQL Server without using parameter.I have a column in table with the type image in sql and i want to add image array to the sql image column like below:
I want to add image (RESIM) to the procedur like shown above but sql accepts byte[] RESIMI like System.Drowing. I whant that  sql accepts byte [] array like sql  image type
    not using cmd.ParametersAdd() method
    here is Isle() method content

SQL Server binary constants use a hexadecimal format:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179899.aspx
You'll have to build that string from a byte array yourself:
    byte[] bytes = ...
    StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder("0x", 2 + bytes.Length * 2);
    foreach (var b in bytes)
    builder.Append(b.ToString("X2"));
    string binhex = builder.ToString();
That said, what you're trying to do - not using parameters - is the wrong thing to do. Not only it is insecure due to the risk of SQL injection but in the case of binary data is also inefficient since these hex strings are larger than the original byte[]
    data.

  • Same variable "used in more then one InfoObject"

I want to use the same user entered value as part of the definition of two different restricted key figures, restricting on two different characteristics.  Basically the user will enter a date, and one key figure includes only those with a "Calendar date" < the entered date, the other will have "Date1" less then the entered date and "Date2" greater the entered date.  When I try that, I get the error "Variable Select Date used in more then one infoObject".  How can I either use the same variable for more then one characteristic, or create a new variable that takes the value of the "Select Date" variable without prompting the user to enter the same date multiple times.
    thanks

    Hi Val,
Hereunder an example of a routine extracting year from month, month inserted manually (year = anno in Italian):
    DATA: loc_var_range LIKE rrrangeexit.
    DATA: l_s_range TYPE rsr_s_rangesid.
    DATA: v_anno(4) TYPE c.
    CASE i_vnam.

            v_anno = loc_var_range-low(4).

Uhm SQL (Structured Query Language) is like the base
of all other type like MySQL and Oracle. Um, given the context I think the person was referring to "Microsoft SQL Server". Sometimes people will cut to the chase and refer to the product as "SQL". At those times it's understood by all parties that we're not talking about the query language, rather the Microsoft product.
I think this is one of those times.

It's commendable that you're using Google. I'd argue that the OP should be making better use of it, too. But I don't think your response is applicable to this context. JMO, of course.

On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?
