SQL server service reboot cause the Buffer Data to flush

Could someone please let me know if I just reboot SQL  service on Production SQL Server that Causes to remove all Data cached in Buffer cache ?  Is reboot SQL service also flush Procedure cache ?
Thank you for in advance for your help .
Daizy

Hi Daizy,
Restart of SQL Server Service is the similar with restarting of the applications. All your caches will be flushed.
Usually, you would not experience any data loss (transaction log records are hardened on the disk synchronously) with exception of transactions with delayed durability in SQL Server 2014. However, all your uncommitted transactions would be rolled back.
Do not forget that reboot would cause performance degradation (data and plans are not cached), database restarts and a few other things. It could be more efficient to use one of the DBCC
commands to cleanup specific cache rather than reboot the service.
Thank you!

So when you tried starting SQL server service it gave the error right  ?  or when you click on SQL server services in SQL server configuration manager(SSCM) you get this error. Can you be more clear.  As far as I read your question it has something
to do with permission. Close SSCM window and this time  right click on SQL server configuration manager and select run as administrator and check if you can see SQL server services

  • Startup Setting of sql 2014 Clustered "SQL Server" Service

    New cluster in testlab:
              Windows Server 2012 R2:  N1, N2 (node 1, node 2)
              Sql Server 2014 installed on N1, N2
Storage server  (uses SMB share for Sql Data and Quorum).
N1 is active; N2 is passive. What is the proper setup for the SqlServer and SqlServerAgent
services on both boxes? (Should they be "manual" for both?)
    TIA,
    edm2
PS. I wonder if the startup setting option is used to implement the Active\passive state.

N1 is active; N2 is passive. What is the proper setup for the SqlServer and SqlServerAgent
services on both boxes? (Should they be "manual" for both?)
    Hi edm,
    In a two-node Windows Failover Cluster with SQL Server, one of the physical nodes is considered the active node, and the second one is the passive node for that single SQL Server instance. A single SQL Server instance can run on only a single node at a time;
and should a failover occur, the failed instance can failover to another node.
When we create a SQL Server Failover cluster, The startup type is set to manual for all cluster-aware services, including full-text search and SQL Server Agent, and cannot be changed during installation. Microsoft recommends that you configure service accounts
individually to provide least privileges for each service, where SQL Server services are granted the minimum permissions.

I want to use the lowest privileges. Do I really need the SQL server service account in local administrator group? How to fix the error?
    thanks

    Hi baschuel,
It is recommended to run SQL Server service by using the lowest possible user rights and it is supported to use a domain account instead of an account from local Administrators group to configure SQL Server service. According to your error messages, the
issue could be due to that the incorrect certificate is used, or the domain account has no access to the Crypto folder(C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto). To troubleshoot the issue, you could follow the two solutions below.
1.Import the correct certificate following the steps in the article:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/import-export-certificates-private-keys#1TC=windows-7
2.Grant the domain account full access to the Crypto folder.

BOL says : Only the account under which the SQL Server service account runs is granted NTFS permissions to the FILESTREAM container. So,  if you start SQL Server under different account , that account wil have access to use fliestream data (read / write)
At the database level ,If a user has permission to the FILESTREAM column in a table, the user can open the associated files..

  • Sql server service crashes a few times yesterday, however, there is no .MDMP file generated in the log folder

    hi there:
I've experienced several sql server service crashes yesterday, service was brought up after a few secs as we have an autostart feature.
Today, I'd like to dig more into the errors and on the event viewer -> Application, I saw errors below
"Faulting application sqlservr.exe, version 2009.100.4302.0, time stamp 0x52f5d194, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.18538, time stamp 0x4cb73957, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x00000000000a7857, process id 0x15ec, application
    start time 0x01cfd7e72b2997d3.
People suggested to check dump file inside C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQL2008R2\MSSQL\Log
However, the lastest .mdmp file was  on April 11, 2014. Do I need to turn on some settings on sql server in order to have this dump file?
    Thanks

  • SCVMM 2008 R2 - "The SQL Server service account does not have permission to access Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)."

I know this question has been asked before, but never for R2, that I can tell, and the posted fixes aren't working. I have just installed SCVMM 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server, using a remote SQL 2008 SP1 database. When I attempt to connect to SCVMM, I get the following error:
"The SQL Server service account does not have permission to access Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
Ensure that the SQL Server service is running under a domain account or a computer account that has permission to access AD DS. For more information, see "Some applications and APIs require access to authorization information on account objects" in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=121054.
    ID: 2607"
What I've seen online is that this is usually becuase the domain account SCVMM is running as does not have the proper permissions on the SQL database. Here's what I've confirmed:
    1) My SCVMM service account is a local admin on the SCVMM server
    2) My SCVMM service account is a dbowner on the SCVMM database in SQL
    3) My SQL service account is a dbowner on the SCVMM database in SQL
    4) My SQL service account is a domain user (even made it a domain admin, just in case, and it still "doesn't have access to AD DS," which is obviously untrue)
    5) Neither service account is locked out
Has anyone run in to this? It says in Technet that remote SQL 2008 is supported, as long as the SQL management studio is installed to the SCVMM server, and I installed and patched before I began the SCVMM installation. I just don't know what else to try - I have no errors in event logs, no issues during the installation itself...
    Andrew Topp

That answer was very unhelpful fr33m4n. The individual mentions that they've received the error that points to the KB article. I currently receive the same error -- there seems to be no resolution. I've run the Microsoft VBS script to add TAUG to the WAAG
as suggested by 331951, and that made absolutely no difference.
    1) My SCVMM service account is a local admin on the SCVMM server
    2) My SCVMM service account is a dbowner on the SCVMM database in SQL
    3) My SQL service account is a dbowner on the SCVMM database in SQL
    4) My SQL service account is a domain user (even made it a domain admin, just in case, and it still
"doesn't have access to AD DS," which is obviously untrue)
The user is also a member of WAAG, the machines have delegated authority to each other. Is there any other solution?

  • Cannot start the SQL server service after you install Active Directory

    Good Morning,
Im the system admin for a small company.  We have a dedicated domain controller but it is the only one.  To get a second domain controller up and running on our domain, I installed the AD role on our file and SQL server.  After the reboot
we couldnt get SQL up and running.  I found this article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929665
    In the article it reads
To work around this issue, repair Windows Internal Database. To do this, run the following command line at a command prompt:
    Msiexec /i SSEE_10.msi CALLERID=OCSetup.exe REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus /qn REBOOT=ReallySupress /l*v <var><Log_File_Path></var>
My question is what is the Log_File_Path?  Is that where I installed the AD log path?
My DBA is also looking into this as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

    Hi Brain,
what's version of SQL Server that you have installed and what's your operationg system version info?
If you are running SQL Server 2008, which is not supported on the Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 domain controll (DC), even on Windows Server 2003 DC, there are limitations. Microsoft does not recommend to install SQL Server instances and DC on the same server,
for more information, see Install SQL Server on a Domain Controller (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx#DC_Support).
There are some threads in the forum talked about installing SQL Server and DC on the same server, here are some for your references:

  • SQL Server Service is not reflecting to the new name.

    Hi,
I just rename the computer and use the command below to rename the SQL Server but the SQL Server Service is not reflecting to the new name.
Is there a way to change the SQL Server Service and agent to reflect the new name or do I have to re-install sql server.
    I am using SQL 2008 R2.
    Thank you in advance.

    If running "SELECT
@@servername" yields the old server name, it means the instance has not been renamed.
you must run statement to drop the old name of the instance and recreate it with the new name as the default (local) one..
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_dropserver 'MACHINENAME\OLDINSTANCENAME'
    go
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addserver 'MACHINENAME\newINSTANCENAME', 'local'
    go
    I took the code here:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/c07ab906-dabf-4303-9737-d430d82c4f42/how-to-rename-instance-of-sql-server-2008-r2?forum=sqltools
Once you did this, look at your maintenance plans.  I sometime end up having one or two still following the old name.  Especially if you create this new server from a copy of another virtualized one.

  • The specified credentials that were provided for the SQL Server service are not valid

after i enter account name and password for server configuration...the error appear...is it problem with acc name or password?help!!

    Hi help933,
According to your description, when you use the Server Configuration page of the SQL Server Installation Wizard to assign login accounts to SQL Server services, you can
assign the same login account to all SQL Server services, or you can configure each service account individually. You can also specify whether services start automatically, are started manually, or are disabled.
For example, on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 ,most accounts are set to the default NETWORK SERVICE account.
    For more information, see:

  • Why does a reboot set the modified-date of the server certificate?

I was inspecting my certificates and noticed that the certificate I use for my server had a modified date of Dec 12, whereas it was created around April of this year.
Dec 12 saw a reboot of my server and adding the `uptime` to the 'modified date' of the certificate gets me to 'now'. So, it seems a reboot sets the modified date of the server certificate. Can someone confirm this and does anybody know wht this is the case?

Yes, I found the same tricks but if I only set pereferred width. the result is not that I expected. so I use the following code to do it:
             tc.setPreferredWidth(maxsize+5);
tc.setMaxWidth(maxsize+5);I don't know why must I add 5 point to display the string completely.

  • SQL Server Service won't start on SQL Server 2008

    Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble starting SQL Server service after stopping and starting the service. Before this happened, I created a Stored Procedure for marking all tables at once along with a maintenance plan for differential backup on all my databases based on the
    recommendation from this link, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms253070.aspx.
When I realized that the differential backup failed with some databases displaying (Restoring...) post-fix to the database name, I decided to stop SQL Server service and start it up. That is when I won't be able to start the service again.
Is there a fix for starting the SQL Server service? Any help is very much appreciated.
    Additional information:
    - With administrator permission granted.
    - Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 installed.
    - Using default database instance.

    Hello,
Could you please copy the model.mdf and modellog.ldf from
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\Templates
    To
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA
Rebuilding the system databases you will lose lose logins, jobs, SSIS packages. You may have to restore or attach user databases.
    Hope this helps.

  • SharePoint 2013 - Server Error in '/' Application - This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm by users who have permissions in SQL Server to read from the configuration database

    Hi
After I ran SharePoint configuration wizard successfully to upgrade to SharePoint 2013 / SP1.
I can open Central Administration site just fine.
but now when I open any Site collection,  I got this error.
    Server Error in '/' Application
This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm by users who have permissions in SQL Server to read from the configuration database. To connect this server to the server farm, use the SharePoint Products Configuration
Wizard, located on the Start menu in Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products
I have restarted all the servers:  SQL server, WFE and APP servers but still cann't get this resolve.
Services on all servers are running,  IIS - application pools are running.
Can someone help with where that could be a problem or if there is a solution.
Thanks in advance for your comments or advices.
    Swanl

    Please verify the followings:
Make sure that from the SharePoint front end and application servers that you can ping your SQL server.
Make sure that your Farm account has permission to the configuration database.
Lastly verify that your database didn't for some reasons go into recovery mode.
once everything is fine and you are still having issues, restart the SQL host service on the SQL server.
Once the service is restarted you will need to reboot Central Admin and then your front end servers.
In addition, as you built your farm inside the firewall, please disable the firwall, or create rules for SQL Server service in the firwall on SQL server.
More information about creating rules in firewall, please refer to the following posts: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c5d4d0d0-9a3b-4431-8150-17ccfbc6fb82/can-not-create-data-source-to-an-sql-server http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1929/configure-windows-firewall-to-work-with-sql-server/

  • Sql server service wont start after disabling TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 on windows

We have been hardening our servers for some time now and recently we disabled SSL 3.0 because of the poodle attack. When I did this on one of our test servers SQL Server failed to start up after the restart.
I have been able to reproduce this on Windows Server 2012 and Windows 7 by disabling TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 through the registry. I am using SQL Server 2012 on the server machine. On my windows 7 machine sql server 2012 and sql server 2005 will not start with
    those disabled.
These are the event log errors I get:
    Application Logs:
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80090331, status code 0x1.
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80090331, status code 0x80.
    System Logs:
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%-2146893007.
(28/10/2014 8:38:54 AM) A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL server credential. The internal error state is 10013.
Done anyone know have we can keep SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 disabled and get SQLServer server to start?

    Hi Don,
I already have TLS 1.0 Disabled to prevent the BEAST exploit. So the values I have for:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS
    1.0\Server
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS
    1.0\Client
Both have enabled set to ("Enabled"=dword:00000000).
If change both of these back to ("Enabled"=dword:00000001)
to enable TLS 1.0, and restart then SQLServer is able to start again. But we are now vulnerable to the BEAST attack once again.
If I keep server enabled and disable the client or vice versa and restart. Then SQLServer starts but I
am unable to connect to it. When I check the Event logs I get the same errors as my original past.
With your last post, do you mean to backup SCHANNEL and delete it so it gets recreated? If that is the case it will probably work because if I re enable SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 from here it fix's the issue,  but I then I won't have the exploits patched and
we need this for some of our customers.
    This is my SCHANNEL Export:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0\Client]
    "DisabledByDefault"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0\Client]
    "DisabledByDefault"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0\Server]
    "Enabled"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.0]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.0\Client]
    "Enabled"=dword:00000000
