SQL server Timeout issue in data insertion

We are loading data from DB2 database to SQL server using Data flow task. During data insertion in SQL server, we are receiving the below error.
"An exception has occurred during data insertion, the message returned from the provider is: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
Kindly help to resolve this issue.
Thanks!!!

Check the connection timeout property of the source connection.

  • How to create a .mdf SQL Server database from a Data-Tier Application file that has data?

This is a noob question, though I do use SQL Server databases all the time with Entity Framework when I code in C# using Visual Studio 2013.  The development environment is found below at [A].  I am trying to make a clone of a SQL Server 2008 R2
database (.mdf)  that exists online.  I can read, connect and work with this database in Visual Studio 2013, but I wish to make a local copy of the database, as an .MDF file.  Somewhere in my notes I have a way of creating a local copy from
an online database when using Visual Studio but I forgot how (it seems, reviewing my notes, that it deals with ADO.NET which is deprecated in Visual Studio 2013 these days, or so it seems).  So I'm looking for another way.  What I did was create
(or export) a "Data-Tier Application File" from the online SQL Server database, with data, and it seems to have worked in that this Data-Tier Application file exists on my hard drive and seems to have data in it ("SQL Server Replication Snapshot"
is the format it seems).  It contains skeleton code to create a database, but when I tried to execute it with SQL Server 2014 Management Studio, I got a bunch of errors.
    So my question is:
    1) Can I somehow create a .MDF SQL Server Database from an Data-Tier Application file that has data?  What tool do I use?  I saw this link, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2639.how-to-use-data-tier-application-import-and-export-with-a-windows-azure-sql-database.aspx
and it relates to Azure, but is there a tool for C#Visual Studio 2013, standalone?
    2) If there's an easy way to create a .mdf SQL Server Database file from an online file, within SQL Server Management Studio?  I don't think so, since it would require Administrator permissions on the online server, which I don't have. I have permission
to read, update, delete the online database file, but strangely not to download it (the service I use has a tool for backup, but not for download).
    3) same question as 2), but for Visual Studio 2013?  I don't think so, since I notice none of the templates even mentions ADO.NET anymore, but instead they go with Entity Framework.  Using EF I can of course do anything I want with the online database
(CRUD), but it remains online.  Maybe there's a switch to make a local copy?  I guess I could write a short program to suck all the data out of the online database and put it into a new, duplicate database having the same tables, that I create on
my localhost, but my question here is if there's an easier way than this, maybe a tool or command I can run from inside Visual Studio?
Any advice on any of the above questions is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Paul

Thanks but these links are too general to help.
"2. what do you mean by online file?" - I mean the SQL Server database file is on a remote web server that I rent from, but I am not the administrator of.  I can access my database using SQL Server Authentication, but nothing more.

What do you mean by too general? It explains on how you can use data tier application to create and deploy databases

  • Msg 0, Sev 0, State 1: Unknown token received from SQL Server [SQLSTATE HY000] String data, right truncation [SQLSTATE 01004] [SQLSTATE 08S01] error

I'm looking for some general guidance on this complete error:
Msg 0, Sev 0, State 1: Unknown token received from SQL Server [SQLSTATE HY000]
String data, right truncation [SQLSTATE 01004]
Msg 16389, Sev 16, State 1: The connection is no longer usable because the server response for a previously executed statement was incorrectly formatted. [SQLSTATE 08S01]
This error is caused by a SQL Agent Job, but it does not always occur. I understand this could be an issue with SQL dropping the connection, but what is the best way to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Hi philliptackett77,
It would be more helpful for troubleshooting the issue if you post the SQL Server error log and SQL Server version. Additionally, please state what purpose of using the agent job.
Based on my research, [SQLSTATE 08S01] error means communication link failure. If the executed statement returns invalid value in the job, the connection between server and client will fail. This error could be caused by the error of [SQLSTATE HY000] and
[SQLSTATE 01004]. I’d like to share my knowledge about these errors as below.
Quote: String data, right truncation [SQLSTATE 01004]
This error could occur when passing data whose length is larger than the received object, and the passed value is truncated, and returns invalid value. So please check if the data type of the objects are identical and the length of passed value is not larger
    than the received object.
Quote: Msg 0, Sev 0, State 1: Unknown token received from SQL Server [SQLSTATE HY000]
The error could occur in the two cases below.
    1. If you use SQL Server version 6.50, and execute the cursor in the job step, set the statement options to use a server-side cursor and prepare a select statement on a SQL Server system table. The first execution of the select creates the cursor successfully.
After you close this cursor, if you execute the prepared statement again, the error could occur.
I recommend you to apply the latest service pack firstly. If the error still occurs, you could change your code by using a forward-only cursor instead of a static, keyset, or dynamic cursor on the system tables. If a forward-only cursor is unacceptable,
prepare the select statement again on the system table and execute it to create a server-side cursor. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/151693/en-us
    2. The TDS stream from the server is invalid when transfer data between a database server and a client. This error is typically caused by a problem on the server. For more information about errors above, please refer to the article:

can anyone pls help how to set the db offline. currently  i  stopped the sql server services from services.msc and started the  sql server agent.
should i stop both services for moving from one drive to another?
note: I tried teh below solution but this didint work:
ALTER DATABASE <DBName> SET OFFLINE WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
    Update:
now am getting the message :
    Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.

Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)".

First you should have checked the database mdf/ldf name and location by using the command
    Use CMP_143
    Go
    Sp_helpfile
Looks like your database CMP_143 was successfully detached but mdf/ldf location or name was different that is why it did not get copied to target location.
Database is already detached that’s why db offline failed
    Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.
    EXEC @RC = sp_attach_db @DBName, @DESTData, @DESTLog
Attached step is failing as there is no mdf file
    Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1
Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)"
    Solution:
Search for the physical files(mdf/ldf) in the OS and copy to target location and the re-run sp_attach_db with right location and name of mdf/ldf.

  • Can we use SQL Server as a primary data storage for SharePoint 2013?

Is it possible to use external SQL Server as a primary data storage for SharePoint 2013?
Having this implemented we can generate reports, query data and it would become very very powerful to use.
    Or
Is there a way to keep on using existing content databases and using external SQL Server as a secondary data storage at the same time. So I want it to be like redundant data in SQL Server.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Not sure if I understand your question correctly, SharePoint has its own content database storing SharePoint list data, we can use SSRS/SSAS integated with SharePoint mode to use sharepoint list as datasource to generate reports.

  • SQL Server Connection Issue

I've tried going through the steps to resolve the issue, but I am still coming up blank. The part that I am not understanding is the, "A non-recoverable error occurred during a database lookup." part.
Is this a security problem? I can establish an ODBC connection to the server as well as connect and query through visual studio, however when trying to run it through one of our custom programs, it throws this error message.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider:
TCP Provider, error: 0 - A non-recoverable error occurred during a database lookup.)

There are many reasons of SQL server connectivity issue. Refer checklist to find out the real cause of connectivity issue.
    1. Check SQL services are running
    2. Check SQL Browser service is running
    3. Check remote connections are enabled
    4. Network connectivity between database & application servers by TRACERT command
    5. Check TCP/IP protocol enabled at SQL server
    6. Check talent connectivity – telnet <IP address> <port no on SQL server running>
    7. Check UDP port 1434 is open or not on SQL Server
    8. Check firewall is running or not Check
    9. If firewall running, SQL Server & UDP port must be added in exception in firewall
    10. Run SQL Discovery report on machine SQL server installed, to check you are using correct instance name to connect( default \named) -http://mssqlfun.com/2013/02/26/sql-server-discovery-report/

  • Sql Server Connectivity issue with ODI Data Profiler

    Hi all,
To profile data from SQL Server Data source, i had created a ODBC connection(using Windows NT authentication) in the system and it was successful. Created a connection with Type ODBC connection in Loader Connections along with System name, Port No and DSN Name. But while trying to connect the database it is throwing an error as Authentication Failed. Please guide me.

ODI's DP does not support the use of sourcing data on the ODBC data source. You must extract to a file, and use the file as the input.

  • Sql Server Connection Issues

After reinstalling Windows Server 2008 R2 EE my SQL 2008 R2 Sp2 Instances have some connection issues.
The server were installed under the same hostname, but he got a new sid in my active directory.
On the server there one DB Engine MSSQLSERVER, two named Reporting Services for MS crm 4.0 and SCOM and one Analysis Services Instance.
The DB Engine will collect Data from another DB, before writing to Analysis Services.
Here are the problems on the server:
When I connect via SSMS remotly, I sometimes get this error: Failed to connect to server <hostname> ... Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server - Error 5
Both RS Instances have many event log errors like "Report Server (Instance) cannot connect to the report server database.". RS Reports are working fine, but sometimes the rendering is taking a long
    time.
The DB Engine Agent Job to collect Data sometimes throw the following error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.  An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0"  Hresult:

User use Excel to connect to the Cube on my server. Often they got timeout errors. When they connect again it will work.
Are there any solutons on this?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello,
The server were installed under the same hostname, but he got a new sid in my active directory.
Did you connect to SQL Server instance with Windows authentication? Since the SID of domain account is changed, the SQL Server instace may cannot verify the login account which stored in the master with old SID. In that case, please try to connect
SQL Server with SQL authentication and then readd the domian as login the instance.

  • To get all tsql errors in sql server arised on particular date

    Hello all,
Is there any T-Sql Command in Sql Server to get the list of Errors Occurred , While Writing a Queries.
Like in server any thing if we get a error it will be stored in logs right (EG :  Exec SP_ReadErrorLog ),Or going through SqlServer-Agent.
    Example :
    DECLARE @MoneyValue float = 999999999999.99
    select CONVERT (varchar, CONVERT(Money,@MoneyValue ) ,1--)
    O/P Error :
    Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 3
    Incorrect syntax near '1'.
Do the above error can be stored in any log, If yes How can i retrieve the data..
    Thanks in Advance......

There's no standard table for that. If you want you need to implemented it yourself by means of error handling logic

Issue i mentioned here, Memory bottleneck is available or not , how to avoid sql buffer pool takes more memory means.

    Hello,
Your output you posted does not makes sense or may be I am not able to understand it..If you want through analysis I need following from you
    1.
    select
    (physical_memory_in_use_kb/1024)Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB,
    (locked_page_allocations_kb/1024 )Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB,
    (total_virtual_address_space_kb/1024 )Total_VAS_in_MB,
    process_physical_memory_low,
    process_virtual_memory_low
    from sys. dm_os_process_memory
2 What is reason for keeping Max server memory and Min server mmory almost equal. 55 G is MAX and 45 G is min.
    3. Does SQL server account has locked pages in memory privilege ?
    4. Did you see any out of memory error ?
5 Please post output of DBCC MEMORYSTATUS and SP_readerrorlog on skydrive and post location here.
PS: SQL server utilizing memory is normal behavior ,what you posted does not exactly points to memory pressure and what seems to me cause here is poorly written queries running.

  • OraOledb for 64-bit, Linked Servers and SQL Server 2005 issues

Our environment is : SQL Server 2005, Windows Server 2003, 64-bit and 32-bit operating systems.
Problem on 64-bit operating system box: (32-bit works fine).
I am trying to access Oracle 10g database using linked server from our SQL Server 2005. In case of number fileds i got the following error:
    Invalid data for type "numeric".
After going through one of the posting in this forumn i was able to resolve the problem by converting those column values to char while querying and then converting them back to numeric type on SQL server side.
But today i ran into another problem. There is a VARCHAR2 column. I was able to retrieve the data yesterday for that column but today i am getting a blank recordset. If i exclude the colum from the query then i am getting all the rows.
I am querying against a view and it has got a number of columns whose data type is VARCHAR2.
Again the problem is on 64-bit operating system only. We have a 32-bit operating system on which i am able to retrieve the data including this column. I looked at the data and everything looks OK. No funny characters etc.
I tried workarounds like using cast, to_char, checking for nulls etc., Nothing works.
Any help is greately appreciated. Thanks.

Did you find a resolution for this? We have similar problem. Set up a linked server in SQL 2006 to Oracle (running on Windows 64-bit) Linked server works and views I had set up were working but they added some new data in the Oracle test database I am using and now I get errors on one of the views.
Error I am getting on the view is "Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB Provider "OraOLDEDB.ORacle" for the linked server"
If I fine tune my queries to find the specific table or view that is at issue, then I get the error "inconsistent metadata for a column"

Are you attempting to import into a newly made table or into an existing table? It looks like it's trying to insert data where it cannot be inserted (invalid column or lack of data size in your column).
    Try the following:
1). In your excel sheet, highlight the whole sheet and make sure the cells are in 'text' form and try re-importing
2). save the document as ms dos TEXT and import as a text document.
3). double check your columns are correct for the data, for example if you have a column that has a string of 100 characters and your column is 'NvarChar(90)' - that might cause the error? Or just correct data type in your column
3). If that doesn't work and you're inserting into a new table, try importing it as string first and writing a query to insert columns that should be float/integer or whatever. You may want to convert float texts to a 'bigint' first rather than string
    > float as that can cause problems if I remember correctly.

  • ORA-01841 Converting SQL Server DateTime to Oracle Date

I have Oracle 11gR2 x64 running on my Win7 Enterprise x64 personal system. I'm trying to convert the TSQL to create a database in SQL Server 2008 Express for my C# class to Oracle, and I've run into a "interesting" problem loading date data.
The SQL Server 2008 TSQL InvoiceDate column in the Invoices table has datatype DATETIME:
    *[InvoiceDate] [datetime] NOT NULL,*
which Oracle does not support. The Oracle InvoiceDate column in the MMAB_Invoices table has datatype DATE:
    InvoiceDate DATE NOT NULL,
The fun begins with the TSQL INSERT statements (for example):
    INSERT [dbo].[Invoices] ([InvoiceID], [CustomerID], [InvoiceDate], [ProductTotal], [SalesTax], [Shipping], [InvoiceTotal]) VALUES (18, 20, CAST(0x00009CFD00000000 AS DateTime), 151.0000, 11.3300, 6.2500, 168.5800)
As you can see, whoever wrote the load script thought it would be totally awesome to convert hex (binary?) data to generate a date, instead of using data readable by a human being.
BTW, the date generated is 2010-01-13 00:00:00.000.
After Reading The Fabulous Manual and searching the OTN Discussion Fora, what I came up with is
    INSERT INTO MMAB_Invoices (CustomerID, InvoiceDate, ProductTotal, SalesTax, Shipping, InvoiceTotal) VALUES (20, TO_DATE(UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(HEXTORAW('00009CFD00000000')), 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS'), 151.0000, 11.3300, 6.2500, 168.5800);
    which returned
Error starting at line 846 in command:
    INSERT INTO MMAB_Invoices (CustomerID, InvoiceDate, ProductTotal, SalesTax, Shipping, InvoiceTotal) VALUES (20, TO_DATE(UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(HEXTORAW('00009CFD00000000')), 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS'), 151.0000, 11.3300, 6.2500, 168.5800)
    Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-01841: (full) year must be between -4713 and +9999, and not be 0
*01841. 00000 - "(full) year must be between -4713 and +9999, and not be 0"*
    **Cause: Illegal year entered*
**Action: Input year in the specified range*
The PK InvoiceID is automatically generated by a BEFORE INSERT trigger that uses a sequence.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.
    P.S. Happy New Year!!!

Your hex conversion is certainly not returning a date format:
    sql> select UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(HEXTORAW('00009CFD00000000')) from dual;
    UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(HEXTORAW('00009CFD00000000'))
┐²To convert the hex number to decimal, simply use to_number:
    sql> select to_number('00009CFD00000000', 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx') from dual;
    TO_NUMBER('00009CFD00000000','XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX')
1.7261E+14Now, before you can make any further calculations with that number, you need to know how it represents the date of 2010-01-13. Luckily, we've got Google nowadays. ;-)
Sql server representation seems to be an 8 byte field. The first 4 bytes stores the number of days since SQL Server's epoch (1st Jan 1900). The second 4 bytes stores the number of milliseconds after midnight.
    sql> select to_number('00009CFD', 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx') from dual;
    TO_NUMBER('00009CFD','XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX')
                                       40189
    sql> select to_date('1900-01-01','yyyy-mm-dd') + 40189 from dual;
    TO_DATE('
13-JAN-10So, the conversion would be something like this:
    sql> select to_date('1900-01-01','yyyy-mm-dd') + to_number(substr('00009CFD00000000',1,8), 'xxxxxxxx') + to_number(substr('00009CFD00000000',9,8), 'xxxxxxxx') / (24*60*60*1000) from dual;
    TO_DATE('
13-JAN-10Note: Oracle DATE format specifies a datetime up to the second, whereas the sqlserver DATETIME format specifies a datetime up to the millisecond; if that precision is needed, use Oracle's TIMESTAMP instead.
Note: using an internal representation is risky, implementation details may change. In this case, it seems pretty unlikely that Microsoft will ever change the datetime internal representation, since that would break lots and lots of code.
