SSH Agent in GNOME Doesn't Work

Hey There,
I'm using GNOME for my personal desktop needs.. I have to connect to several remote server (or PC's) in a shell and I don't want to re-enter my passwords in the same session. This is my problem:

So SSH Agent doesn't cache or save the passwords I enter.. So I have to enter the password each time. (Maybe this is happening because of the same reason why Seahorse doesn't working on my system.. :S)

Did you run ssh-add to tell ssh-agent which key to use ? If not, ssh-agent will not know anything about any keys/pass phrases you enter into specific ssh sessions.

GNOME doesn't work correctly with startx only by GDM

This is driving me nuts, I'm having a bunch of problems because I'm starting my GNOME session using startx instead of GDM and this bugs me a lot because I prefer startx most of the times...
1) One of the problems is that the sound does not work with startx. Starting through GDM, the sound is ok. What's even more frustrating is that sometimes, it doesn't even work through GDM
2) I can't unlock anything in the "System » Administration" menu. All of the "unlock" buttons are grayed out and I can't click them. But it works on GDM. However, whatever setting I change (after unlocking) is not saved...

I've read the wiki but I don't know what should I do to the hal.conf everything seems "normal" to me...

I don't know what I've done (changed lots of things lately and configuration files) but the sound seems to be working now... Not every time, but most of the time, it seems so. I have enabled the button sound (when you click a button) temporarily to see if the sound keeps working for the time being...
Also, the unlock button now is enabled and here's a thing I found about the settings not being saved. I open "Administration » Services", for instance, and click "unlock", input password, enable GDM, which was disabled of course and click "close". I open "Administration » Services" again and with everything disabled, I see that GDM is not checked, still, I click "unlock" again, the services list is unlocked and GDM is still unchecked. But, if I look inside /etc/rc.conf, I can see the gdm daemon was added to the list... If I reboot the computer, GDM will start automatically and if once again I go to "Administration » Services", now I see GDM checked. If I try to uncheck it, it will work, but I will only see the unchecked value in the "Services" window after another reboot. Is this normal?

My Intermedia Web agent and Clipboard doesn't work!

I'v just downloaded the Intermedia Web agent and Clipboard plugin from OTN a few days ago.But both of it don't work when I install it.Would you please help me look for the reason?
My operating system is Windows 2000 Professional,and my web server is OAS 4.0.8.1,and my database is 8i.
When I visit these address"http://host:port/intermedia/^about"and "http://host:port/intermedia/admin",the browser returns to me a error page.
When I connect to host in Clipborad,it returns to me an error message which says"The following error was received from the intermedia web agent,<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Invalid host specified</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>The request did not specify a valid virtual host</BODY>
I don't know if this web agent can work with OAS 4.0.8.1 and if OAS 4.0.8.1 can run in the Windows 2000 Professional.

Thank you for your help!I have sent my application information to your product manager by email!
But the error stll appears.When I typed the whole domain name in the host area of Clipborad,the error message changed to "An application error has occured,please try again!".When I typed the address"http://My host:port/intermedia/~about"(I have substituted ^ with ~ )"and "http://My host:port/intermedia/admin",it still returns an error page which says"HTTP 500 Server internal error......"like before!
Also,I found other errors about OAS.One Application cannot add the second Cartridge,it returns an error:"OWS-09103:Cartridge section'[Application wscWRBApp" when I do it.So I suspect the reason is my operating system platform,I will try to reinstall it now.

In-Home Agent for Mac doesn't work - never has

I signed up for FIOS service several months ago and have never been able to get Verizon In-Home Agent to work. I can get as far as the level shown below, but when I select one of the grayed options, I get the spinning icon. (See it at lower left corner of the window.) That lasts for a few minutes, then nothing happens - it just goes back to the same window.
I even tried clicking the "Click here to provide your Feedback." I get the same icon (hard to see, but it's to the left of that link), then back to the same window.
Running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
Any ideas?

I just got FIOS in my all-Mac household. Nothing works for the Mac in FIOS. Not the FIOS t.v. widgets, In-Home Agent or anything else. Verizon is the most Mac unfriendly telecom company I've ever seen. Ironic if you think about what its products are.
All that will work on a Mac is that it will connect to the Internet. Period.
Verizon, would it really be too much cost or trouble to develop more Macintosh options?

TFS 2012 Update 4 - Build Alert - "A build controller or agent's status changes" doesn't work correctly

We are running TFS2012 Update 4 and have set up some build alerts. The alert we have set up is "A build controller or agent's status changes". When this alert is first set up the default filters which are included are for fields "Team
Project" and "Status". However through much testing we have discovered that when either of these fields are included as a filter the alert doesn't work. When other fields are used in the filter the alert works fine (as long
as neither of the stated fields are included), indeed if all alert filters are removed then the alert also works successfully. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an issue with the fields "Team Project" and "Status"?

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

Ssh config : sshd_config and chroot doesn't work

Hi,
We tried to customize ssh parameters in sshd_config file in leopard server (in /etc/ssd_config). We need to restrict ssh and sft users' access only in their folders and not go up in parent folders.
I read that chroot parameter is the right to do this, but it doesn't work with ssh leopard standard version.
So I installed with macports last openssh and chroot parameter seems to work (ssh service start correctly) but in this case it's impossible to authentificate users : maybe I must use special parameters to use ODM and Kerberos.
Have you some ideas ?

GNOME Proxy Doesn't Work ?

Because of my work, I sometimes have to join some networks that I have to use some proxies to connect to the internet.. Because of this, I generally have to set all programs' settings seperately and then back when I'm home let's say... Instead I really would like to use GNOME Proxy settings so that each program that I use would use those settings.. Is this possible ?
Even Pidgin, Firefox etc.. doesn't work with it..

Make sure you have FAM enabled in your /etc/rc.conf. Look for this line in your rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network crond hal fam)
and just make sure FAM is included in that line. Fam is needed by gnome.

How to get Leopard ssh agent to work if you previously used "SSH Agent" App

Hi Everyone,
I had previously been using the *SSH Agent* application from http://www.phil.uu.nl/~xges/ssh/ and wanted to get rid of it and use the built-in support for ssh-agent in Leopard.
However, it didn't work. Doing "env | grep SSH" it would show /tmp/501/nl.uu.phil.SSHAgent.socket and ssh'ing from a terminal window would request your passphrase every time. Executing ssh-agent would say "no agent is running." Even deleting the *SSH Agent* app and rebooting, it would still have this phil socket.
The solution is to use terminal, go to your home directory, cd to .MacOSX and look and see if there's an environment.plist file. In there will be some XML to set this persistent string for SSHAUTHSOCK. You need to take that out. If there's other stuff in the file, like a CVSHOME entry, hand-edit the XML to take out the SSHAUTHSOCK entry. (How to do that is beyond the scope of this post.) If the only thing is that entry, just delete the environment.plist file.
Afterwards, reboot, or maybe just log out and log back in, open a terminal window, and you should be able to ssh out and the system will start ssh-agent behind your back and find your .ssh/id_dsa file or whatever.

The man page for ssh-agent provides the following documentation:
-a bind_address
Bind the agent to the unix-domain socket bind_address. The
default is /tmp/ssh-XXXXXXXXXX/agent.<ppid>.
The system ssh-agent's startup arguments are in /System/Library/LaunchAgents/org.openbsd.ssh-agent.plist so you could add something like the following to array that defines the ProgramArguments:
<string>-a</string>
<string>/whatever/the/path/is/that/you/want/to/have</string>
Note that since these mods are being done in /System, they could be wiped out by any system update. You could try making a copy of the file and putting the copy in /Library/LaunchAgents; perhaps files in that directory take precedence over files in /System. Certainly, stuff in /Library shouldn't be wiped out by a system update, though.

NetworkManager doesn't work on gnome

I installed Gnome and everything works, but if i install NetworkManager and start it there isn't any tray icon.
If i kill nm-applet and then start it again i got this messgae/error:

Never mind wonder, but should there be more groups in de root or user?
I'm trying for days to get it work, but with no succes.
BTW, wicd is no option. I have always trouble connecting with my wireless network.

[solved] SSH doesn't work over PPTP VPN with pptpclient

I just got set up with access to my work's PPTP VPN. Using pptpclient I can establish a connection and ping servers. I can use telnet to confirm ports 22, 80 etc are accessible and I can access web services in my browser, but SSH doesn't work.
When I try and SSH to a server it just hangs for a minute and then "Connection closed by 10.70.11.10". Wondering if SSH was using my default route rather than the appropriate tunnel, I tried setting my default route to use the VPN, and ping, telnet, nmap etc still seem to function and return expected results, but SSH still hangs and closes. There are no entries in the sshd log on the servers that I attempted to get access to. I have both Arch and CentOS servers and I cannot get to either via SSH.
My colleague connected to the VPN on his mobile phone and managed to SSH to a server, so it doesn't seem that the VPN is blocking this... any ideas?

Solved! I found that in /etc/ppp/options, un-commenting -mru fixed this for me:

Tiff2icns doesn't work via ssh w/o window manager

I need to run tiff2icns on a Mac mini (Mac OS X 10.4.6) via a remote ssh connection. Unfortunately this doesn't work if I don't have a window manager session open on the Mac at that time. Is this a bug in tiff2icns, or am I doing something wrong? I want to run tiff2icns without having a window manager open on the remote system.

Gnome 2.18 doesn't work with heliodor

Hey,
i wanted to ask if you too have problems with beryl and gnome 2.18
i updated it yesterday and heliodor doesn't work. The only way to get window-decorator is emerald, but even that crashes often.
is this a known problem?

Upgrade on Gnome 2.24 - Remember Running Apps doesn't work

Hello,
since years I use the feature in Gnome to save what applications were running the last time and where the windows of the applicatons were placed and so on. This feature is still included in 2.24 and as far as I know it works via Metacity, but since the upgrade it doesn't work.
The only hint is this warning at startup of X11 (I don't use GDM):
Any idea what I can change?

for other notification to work like mounts, network connections, volume keys, bat status you need gnome-power-manager-notify-osd and gnome-settings-daemon-notify-osd
