SSRS 2014 Highly Available

The objective is to setup a production environment where SSRS is highly available. According to this article, the SSRS should be installed on the failover server.  This is counter-intuitive to me.  Is the article correct?  If so, can someone
explain the rationale behind this topography?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb522745.aspx
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Bryan,
The article is a little confusing in that it doesn't provide a more robust justification.
Do you need to put SSRS on a failover server to provide higher availability? Of course not.
If your configuration for your primary should include SSRS to support your users then definitely follow your instincts.
What the article fails to mention is that with 8 replicas now available, some organizations are strategically locating failovers (usually disaster recovery servers) to perform double duty, as reporting servers.
For example, configure a replica that is another part of the country or the world. Perhaps your data center is located on the USA east coast and you create a replica on another office in Singapore. The replica receives continuous updates from the primary
and works as a DR solution, but... also provides "local" reporting for users. The performance for them is much faster (obviously).
Also included in SQL Server 2014 is the ability for SSRS to continue providing reporting services on a replica EVEN WHEN the connection to the primary is lost. That way your folks in Singapore still work.
Hope that helps...

    Hi Asim,
    As described in this
article, SQL Server AlwaysOn is not supported with Data Protection Manager (DPM) and Configuration Manager.
    Also as mentioned in this
article,  you can use AlwaysOn Availability Group with System Center 2012 SP1 - Operations Manager (SCOM).

    Hi there,

    Hi Petri,
For your scenario, you have achieve a  high performance for your Office Web Apps farm but not high availability.
For performing a high availability Office Web Apps farm, you can refer to the blog:

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migration and Architect a resilient and high availability exchange setup

    Hi,
I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers  and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My
goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.
Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.
Here is what I have planned so far.
    1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.
    2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.
    3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?
    4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.
    5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.
    6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.
    7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.
once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.
Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.
thank you for your help in advance

    Hi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,

CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.

  • SharePoint 2013 High Availability - BI Semantic

    SharePoint 2013 High Availability
    Hi all,
    Settings
Two Sites connected via tunnel, no issue in networking – Single farm
    SQL2012, two DB with mirroring
SharePoint 2013, two servers in the farm, each server is APP & WEB
Issue, this has been designed against full site failure (e.g. losing connection to other site, which means losing 1 SQL and 1 SP server)
When users try to view some reports from the BI page, they can’t , we have confirmed that SQL mirrors are failing correctly, the issue (we think to be to access the SharePoint reporting services DB which we have mirrored as well), any help will be great.
    Regards

Okay, if you've validated that you have the 1Gbps and 1ms over 10 minutes average, then you're in a supported scenario. How did you configure the SSRS databases to use mirroring within SharePoint? With SSRS databases, you'll need to use PowerShell:
    $database = Get-SPDatabase | where {$_.Name -eq "ReportingServiceDbName"}
    $database.AddFailoverServiceInstance("InstanceName")
    $database.Update()

  • Cluster install, high availability

    Hi All,
Does anyone have a guide or can detail the steps (differences from a single server install) to install BPC 7.0 Microsoft version in a Cluster Environment(High Availability).
    Cheers

    Hello Jitendra,
SQL should have its own cluster group. So should DTC and the shared storage.
The name of the cluster that Sorin is refering to is the virtual name associated with the clustered resource, so in this case the DNS name of the SQL cluster group. The idea is that BPC does not care that it is running on a cluster, all it wants is a SQL server. The clustering aspect is transparent to BPC and is left to MS Clustering. Same thing if you have a specific group for SSAS, you give that group's DNS name when installing BPC.
The WEB/App servers components should not be installed on the cluster, but rather on NLB nodes.
Reporting services can be installed either on the cluster or on the web/app server, but keep in mind that most companies don't like having a web server on database servers, so we usually install SSRS on the web/app servers. The SSRS database repository would be located on the SQL cluster in either case.
In the case of NLB being used for the web/app servers, the file share should be located on a shared resource, it cannot be local on the web/app servers. It can be located on the cluster, or any dependable network share that uses the same AD security as the servers.
Note that for NLB we usually recommend using a hardware solution as it is faster than using the software solution that is part of Windows, and does not take resources away from the web/app server.
    I hope this helps

  • Installation of SSRS 2014 freeze

Hi, im having a issue trying to install SSRS 2014 on my Windows 2012 Standard Server.
I was having trouble trying to install SQL 2014 Standard (downloaded from my partner account), and was failing. So i started it again, installed core features, plus manager, but without SSRS and it installed without issues.
When after i try to add SSRS to the instance, it freeze at same point. The installation runs thru, until it goes to sqlRsConfigAction_install_confignonrc_cpu64. In this moment, the installation freezes and dont go anywhere further. If i cancel the installation
its the same, it remains frozen, i need to kill the process.
When i check it seen the SSRS is installed, in one attempt it even started the service but it was clearly not running as it should. When i try to use the repair feature of installation it says it couldnt be repaired because it never was properly installed.
When i check the logs, at program files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20150406\SQL_rs_Cpu64_1.log
It seen the installation was completed, but its not working at all. I was thinking this was somewhat related to IIS, since there is nothing configured on IIS when i open IIS manager. I tried to install with IIS stopped, and also with FastCGI stopped (used
for PHP), and also the mysql server stopped, but nothing solved the issue.
Anyone have any idea what can i do? Reinstalling the server isnt a option, it would require a lot of work to put the mySQL/php website working back, and also several other issues reconfiguring filezilla server that is being used for other services, plus
i cant allow those services to be suspended. I need SQL Server to publish a asp.net application that is currently running on other server.

  • SSRS 2014 Printer Control Icon missing in Internet Explorer 11

I'm trying to determine what the latest status is with the printer control on Internet Explorer 11.
We have a Windows 2012 Server R2 running SQL 2014 and I've installed the latest report viewer distributable (2012 server.)
In IE 11 I still cannot see the printer control icon.
Is there a known, reliable fix for this or can I just assume that the printer icon is a pre-IE 11 feature?
    Thank You!

    Hi Bob,
Based on my understanding, printer button is not available when previewing the report in IE11.
In Reporting Service, each user who wants to use the print feature must download and install the ActiveX control that provides client print functionality. As we tested in our environment, with ActiveX control installed, the printer button is available in
IE11 (SSRS 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2). So in your scenario, please check if you have installed Active control. If not, please enable the setting Download signed ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer, then you can install the required control. For more
information, please refer to steps below:
    1.Click Tools -> Internet options.
2.Switch to the Security tab, select the Trusted sites zone, and then click
    Sites.
3.Type the URL of Report Server, click Add, and then click
    Close .
4.Click the Custom level button, scroll to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins node.
5.Click Enable for Download signed ActiveX controls, and then click
    OK.
If issue persists, please check if value of EnableClientPrinting is True in SSMS. Please refer to the screenshot below:

  • Is the Azure Files data highly available/replicated under the covers?

    I am assuming that with Azure Files, under the covers data is replicated multiple times for High Availability.  Is that correct?  For some applications, typically failover application, where the application doesn't assume highly available storage;
the applications themselves build logic to either replicate/sync data.  An example is Elastic Search.  In these cases, the system lands up making too many copies.  Is the Azure File Semantic the same as blob store, in this regard.

  • WL9/bpel10.1.3.4 MLR10  high availability setup missing internal queues.

    Hi,
Noticed that setups on weblogic HA (High Availability) cluster setups have a bug in setting up the JMS SOA module.
Currently 2 mandatory queues (distributed) and corresponding Factories are missing: eg BPELInvokerQueue and BPELWorkerQueue.
These queues basically guarantee no message loss during for example http/SOAP communications. Like in our case BPEL <-> OSB.
On non HA setups and probably older versions of BPEL the porting to WL9.2 goes smoother as they do contain these queues/.
Does anyone know putting them manually resolves the problem? Putting Service request on OTN to support this.

  • Reportviewer for SSRS 2014

I have a ASP.NET application which render the reports, SSRS server is 2014.
Is there a report viewer available for SSRS 2014, or Reportviewer of SSRS 2012 will work with SSRS 2014?

Why do I see a 12.0.2000.8 version of Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll on my workstation and a 12.0.0000 version on our database server if there's not supposed to be a new ReportViewer for 2014? The web server only has 11.0.0.0 because we have only installed

  • SSRS 2014 Font Support

    Hi,
Does the new SSRS 2014 support open fonts? In previous versions it didn't.
I tried to look at the documentation but couldn't find any.
    Thank you,

    Hi Sohaib,
As you know the previews version is not support the Open font and SSRS 2014 have added not very much new fearture compare with the SSRS2012(What's New in SQL Server 2014).
The issue of OpenType fonts are not supported by SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) still exists in SSRS 2014. The root cause is that Windows Forms applications support TrueType fonts and have limited support for OpenType fonts. If we attempt to use
a font that is not supported in Report Builder or SQL Server Data Tool (SSDT) to design a report, the Microsoft Sans Serif font will be substituted. For more information, please see:
    Font Class
There is no workaround to use OpenType fonts in SSRS currently. However, based on my reseaerch, there are TrueType Whitney fonts available. To work around this issue, you can use Whitney TrueType fonts instead.

I recommend you that submit a wish to the Microsoft Connect at
