Start oracle 9i database

I have installed oracle9.2.0 on redhat 8.0. After installation, the management console automatically ran. When I close management console, I want to run it again(use oemapp console). The system showed me " bash: oemapp : command not found". Actually there is a oemapp file in my system. Also sqlplus cannot run , it is same trouble. Who can tell me what is problem?
Thanks

Have u found any response?

  • Cannot start Oracle 10g database console service

    Hello,
I was given a machine with Oracle 10g standard edition already installed.
I had problem with starting both the TNS and OrclDBConsole services.
After modifying the HOST Name in both the tnsnames.ora file and the listner.ora file i was able to start the TNS service. But I am still having problem with starting the OrclDBConsole service.
Any idea or suggestion what's wrong?
    Thanks for the help!

The DBConsole may also be started as a service.
    The service for DBConsole is

  • Password to start Oracle Database 9i

    Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed Oracle9i Personal Edition Release 1(9.0.1.1.0) for Windows 98. When I run the option Start Oracle 9i Database under Database Administration, it asks for a password. What is the password?
    Thanks

Hey Melvyn, have u found any other response?
I have the same problem, but I haven't found any solution.
Other OTN Members thinks that we have problem with SQLPlus login... instead we can't START Oracle because when we click on the specified menu voice "START ORACLE ETC...", a dialog appears requesting ONLY a password...
We haven't set any password during installation step and any other KNOWN PWD is good.
mmm it is a big mistery

    Dear all,
need ur help. i have installed oracle9i on wndows xp. then i stoped all the services for 9i. n i installed oracle 10g also.
My problem is that bothy database servies are their and they are automatic.
10 g Database is starting automatically. but 9i database instance is not opeing automatically.
i tried STARTTYPE the opetion of oradim also but its not working.
tell me how to start the 9i database automatically.
    regds
    Ashish

most likely while installation you might have given a different port no.As a result oracle has ultimately landed up with having more than one listener. And some times I have seen after installation the previous listener does not get started. So I would like to you to check your listener.
One more point while 2nd installtion you might have changed your oracle home.so while trying to connect to prev instance try using sqlplus from previous oracle_home\bin\.

  • How to start manually an oracle 8i database with a bat file?

    Hi all,
I know it's not the place but it is a really common question: how can i start manually an oracle 8i database on windows 2000 without using a service? I don't remember the command. I tried: oracle start SID without success...
    Thanks
    JMi

    Dear JMD,
If you would like to startup the Oracle instance using a batch file then first create a SQL file (say ABC.SQL) wherein enter the following two lines:
    connect internal/<INTERNAL_PASSWORD>
    STARTUP
<INTERNAL_PASSWORD> above is the password for the INTERNAL user account (default password is "oracle")
Then create a batch file (say START.BAT) and enter the following single line:
    <ORACLE_HOME>\bin\svrmgrl @<ABC_DIR>\ABC.SQL
where <ORACLE_HOME>\bin\svrmgrl is the full path of the SVRMGRL.EXE executable and <ABC_DIR> is the directory in which you have placed the ABC.SQL file.
Now you can startup the Oracle database by simply double-clicking on the START.BAT batch file.
    Ciao!

  • How to start Oracle database in solaris Machine

I installed Oracle database in my solaris machine. Everything went fine .. I was able to install it and test the database if it's working or not.
Something happened that made me shut down and restart the solaris machine, the problem is that Oracle is not running, so I have to start it manually, and I'm not sure how to do that ... Is there a way to start Oracle automatically once the solaris machine is started ...
I'm using the SSH Secure Shell Client to configure and install everything into the solaris machine ..

Here is the work around for starting oracle instance automatically.
    1) logon the system as root user.
    2) under /etc/init.d/ directory, create a file name oraclestart(name the file to what you feel comfortable). eg: /etc/init.d/oraclestart.
    with the following content:
    #!/bin/sh
    # Created by Henry Nguyen
    # Date 10/11/2005
    # Script to automatic start and stop oracle instances on server
    ORACLE_HOME=/export/home/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0 (diffrent on your system)
    if [ ! -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart || ! -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut ]; then
    echo missing oracle start/stop script
    exit 1
    fi
    case "$1" in
    'start')
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart'
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start'
    'stop')
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl stop'
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut'
    esac
    3) create 2 soft link as following:
    ln -s /etc/init.d/oraclestart /etc/rc2.d/S99oraclestart
    ln -s /etc/init.d/oraclestart /etc/rc0.d/K10oraclestart
Note the S99 and K10: that are Solaris priorities to when start and stop an oracle instance and those letter must be capitalized.
    Hope this will help you

  • How to Start/Stop manually an oracle 9i database with a bat file?

    Hi;
I have a manual Start/Stop of the db.
How can i Start/Stop the 9i database all services with a batch file (windows 2000) ?
All in one batch files ( One for Start & one for Stop)(Including listener)
    thanks for your answer !

Save the scripts below in a batch file and use the first one to start your services, and the second one to shutdown.
This script will shutdown your database first using SQL*Plus and stop the service later. This way you will avoid the timeout.
Also will ask you for confirmation if you are sure to start Oracle services and database. press Y for yes and N for No.
    @echo off
    %systemdrive%
    REM #
    echo.
echo You are about to start Oracle Services and Database
    echo.
    set /p Input=Do you want to continue? (Y=Yes N=No) =
    IF /i "%Input%"=="Y" (goto Proceed)
    exit /b
    :Proceed
echo Oracle Instance and Services Startup in progress
    echo.
    Net start OracleOraHome92Agent
    Net start OracleOraHome92HTTPServer
    Net Start OracleOraHome92TNSListener
    Net Start OracleMTSRecoveryService
    Net Start OracleServiceORCL
    echo.
echo Oracle ORCL Instance and Services Startup completed Successfully
    echo Good Bye
    echo on
EXIT /BSave this one in a seperate batch, again it will ask for confirmation, and shutdown the database using SQL to avoid timeout
Just replace the connect string with your own and the {SID} with your Database name
    @echo off
    %systemdrive%
    echo.
echo You are about to shutdown Oracle Instance and Services
    echo.
    set /p Input=Do you want to continue? (Y=Yes N=No) =
    if /i "%Input%"=="y" (goto Proceed)
    exit /b
    :Proceed
    echo.
echo Closing and Dismounting ORCL Database
    echo.
echo shutdown immediate | sqlplus "/ @ORCL as sysdba"
    echo.
echo Shutting down Oracle system services
    echo.
    Net Stop OracleService{SID}
    Net Stop OracleOraHome92HTTPServer
    Net Stop OracleOraHome92TNSListener
    Net Stop OracleMTSRecoveryService
    Net Stop OracleOraHome92Agent
    echo.
echo Oracle Instance and Services Shutdown completed successfully
    echo Good Bye
    echo on
    EXIT /bTony Garabedian

Ok, thanks to all for pointers on finding the alert log. Found it. here's the relevant section, I believe:

  • How to start oracle database server and client in windows 8

    Hi at all
I'm a new entry in this forum and I'm a beginner with database oracle.
I used always SQL Server as database and it was easy to use after installation.
With SQL Server configuration management program I could to launch the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service and the database server start up!!
With SQL Server management studio I could to launch the client application, then was establishing a connection to the server and all was working fine!
Now, how to work with oracle database?
I installed oracle server and client version 11g R2 on windows 8, but how can I start the server database? .. and how can I start the client application for querying?
    regards in advance.
    P.S.: Sorry for my english.

    SomeoneElse
    thanks for the response.
I setting the service to start manually because otherwise windows is slow to startup.
In particular I have precisely this oracle service on my operating system after installation.
    - ) OracleVssWriterSYSDBA
    - ) OracleDBConsolesysdba
    - ) OracleJobSchedulerSYSDBA
    - ) OracleMTSRecoveryService
    - ) OracleOraDb11g_home1ClrAgent
    - ) OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    - ) OracleServiceSYSDBA
What are the services that start the server and I have to launch?
What is the client program in menu --> start -- > all program --> Oracle - OraClient 11g home..... that I have to use for querying database?
    thanks.

  • Starting up the database( Solaris 9 Oracle 9i)

    Hi Gurus,
I've got a database that has 2 instances running on it. I had shutdown the database for some maintancance but now the problem is that after I startup I then checked this:
ps -ef |grep pmon it returns only 1
    ora902 24138 24116 0 07:51:50 pts/2 0:00 grep pmon
    ora902 1679 1 0 Dec 08 ? 0:00 ora_pmon_pll01
    whereas it should return 2
    ora902 24138 24116 0 07:51:50 pts/2 0:00 grep pmon
    ora902 1679 1 0 Dec 08 ? 0:00 ora_pmon_pll01
    ora902 2444 1 0 Dec 08 ? 0:00 ora_pmon_DEATDB01
How do I start this one:
    ora902 2444 1 0 Dec 08 ? 0:00 ora_pmon_DEATDB01
    Thank you.

The second database apparently didn't start.
As you don't disclose your startup procedures, only generic advice is possible.
If you don't use the Oracle provided dbstart (which you should) start up the database manually.
If you do use dbstart, check the oratab to see whether the database starts up automatically.
If it should start up automatically, check the alert log why it didn't start.
Newdba's should read documentation and do not jump to this forum straightaway.
Learning Oracle should be done by using the documentation, instead of asking volunteers to abstract it.

  • How to let SOA Suite automatically start Oracle Database services if necess

It occurs from time to time that I forget to start Oracle database services
before I start Soa Suite. Can I somehow let SOa Suite startup script check in advance
if Oracle database services need to be started (and start them automatically if necessary)?
    Peter

    Hi,
This is a familiar issue. I've come up with the following solutions.
    1) On my linux machine, I start the database (EE) and soa suite at boot time using /etc/oratab.
    2) On my windows machine, I start the database (XE) at boot time, as a service that automatically starts. The soa suite is started manually. I could start the suite automatically as a service also, but because it takes up so much memory and I do not always want to run the suite, I prefer to start manually. In any way, the database is started automatically before the soa suite.
    Hope this will help you.
    Kind regards,
    H
