Start Stop Cluster 10g 11g

Hi All,
In 10g
stop cluster in local node
option 1. crsctl stop crs
alternatively
option 2. srvctl stop instance
             srvctl stop asm
             srvctl stop nodeapps
             srvctl stop crs
same with starting the resources
option 1. crsctl start crs
alternatively
option 2. srvctl start nodeapps
             srvctl start asm
             srvctl start instance
             crsctl start crs
is there any difference if i stop all resources in a go or if i stop using second option lot of options all work but slight doubt which of these are oracle
prescribed
And in 11g since OCR and Voting disk on ASM
./crsctl stop cluster -all --- to stop everything in all nodes  or
crsctl stop cluster -n node1 or
./crsctl stop has on single node
option 2 - I am not aware of option 2
can any one enlighten me on these...

Hello! I hope my experience will be helpful.
In order to get a graceful shutdown of the databases in my cluster, I first stop the databases using the srvctl stop database command. Once the database has been shutdown properly, and is shown to be in OFFLINE state, then I use "crsctl stop cluster" command to stop the other cluster processes. Finally, I use "crsctl stop crs" command to shutdown High Availability services. I issue the "crsctl" commands on each individual cluster node, because I am not a big fan of the "-all" option to shut things down.
I hope this helps you!
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Mark

  • Start/stop OAS 10g (9.0.4) instances remotely

    Hi,
I want to find out if I can start/stop Mid-tier instance remotely.
For example, I have Mid-tier installed on RHEL 3.0 server and Infrastructure installed on AIX server.
I want to start/stop Midtier instance along with Infrastructure from AIX machine. Can any one suggest any script for this?
    Thanks in advance!
    GN

I don't know if its possible in a single script.
What I'll do is connect over ssh to the servers and run some of the scripts available to start/shutdown the instances.
In [1] there are some useful scripts. (the scripts need to be IN the server, not your client)

  • Starting Stopping Oracle 10g XE on Linux

    Hi,
I successfully installed Oracle 10g XE on Suse 10.0 as root. The install went without errors. I configured the oracle with "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure" and opted not to start oracle while bootup.
Then whenever I clicked on Start Database or Stop Database link just nothing happens. The cursor changes shape and after sometime returns back to original shape.
However, I was easily able to start/stop the database from command line: -
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe enable
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
Then I edited /etc/init.d/oracle-xe to enable startup of oracle at bootup and everything work fine now.
But I'm still not able to start/stop the database from the links provided in the KDE menu.
By checking the links, they are pointing rightly to startdb.sh and stopdb.sh in scripts directory of config directory.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thanks for the concern. When I ran su - oracle on KDE Konsole and then stopdb.sh, I got the following output: -
xsetroot: Unable to open display ' '
xsetroot: Unable to open display ' '
and it worked. It stopped the database. Similarly by typing startdb.sh I was able to start the database with above two messages.
Then came the real part. When I saw the menu entries for Starting & Stopping Database in KDE Menu, they were running as current user. I changed them to run as 'oracle' user and it worked.
Now I'm able to start and stop database form the KDE Menu entries.
Another Tip: May be useful to someone: -
When we run the SQL Command Line Utility from KDE Menu in Suse 10.0 it runs in old style terminal. When I saw the script it ran i.e. startsqlplus.sh of some thing like this ( I don't remember the exact name, but you can find out by right clicking on menu entry and then edit item), it came to know that it was seeking gnome-terminal in /usr/bin and in Suse 10.0 gnome-terminal is located in /opt/gnome/bin!!!!!!. So, I made a symbolic link /usr/bin/gnome-terminal for /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-terminal and now it presents me with nice gnome-terminal to run SQL Plus command line.
    Thanks

  • Starting/Stopping Oracle 10g Personal Edition

Just wondering how one starts & stops 10g PE?
Oracle asks for Host credentials and database credentials.
SYS doesn't seem to work and as there is no security settings under Admin (in PE) I can't create my login as a SYSDBA.
    Suggestions appreciated!

PE is actually a superset of EE (Enterprise Edtion), with all EE options except RAC. It is targetted towards developers and designed to allow a develolper access to all of the capabiltites
Therefore, you can search the docs to find out how to start/stop the database's instance[s] and any reference to the Enterrprise Edition will be valid in your case. If I remember correctly, there is a chapter in the Installation Guide that covers the topic.
IN any case, PE is only licensed on Windows (presumably because developers only work in Windows???), so:
    - Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services
    - Ensure the TNS Listener service is running first
    - Start the Oracle service
The questions you ask indicate you are confused about the relationship between SYSDBA and the OS userid. I strongly encourage reading the first 2 chapters of the Concepts manual (at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1) to get a decent starting point.

  • [Debian] Oracle 10g Express - init.d start/stop script problem + fix

I've experienced a problem with the init.d script "oracle xe" which is used to start/stop/reload the 10g server and comes with the debian package from oss.oracle.com.
I noticed that after installing Oracle 10g in the "Debian" way (via .deb package and an apt-source oss.oracle.com), the start and stop method of the script doesn't do anything.
It's checking for the value of the "ORACLE_DBENABLED" variable, which is on my installation set to "false", because I answered during installation false to the question "do you want to start Oracle 10g at system boot?".
In my opinion that's wrong. I should always be able to start/stop the Oracle server trough the init.d script regardless of your choice starting Oracle at boot or not.
    I commented out row 604 and 621 in the file "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe" :
    case "$1" in
      start)
            if test -f "$CONFIGURATION"
            then

      stop)
            if test -f "$CONFIGURATION"

  • BPEL's needs to redeploy after every stop/start of WL in 11g-Urgent

    Version: 11.1.1.3
    All,
Whenever I start/restart the managedserver, the already deployed BPEL process needs to be redeploy again. This becomes pain if I have to deploy 10-15 BPEL's again and again. Why is this performance issue with wlogic? How do I overcome this issue?
In BPEL 10g, if I deploy the bpel 1st time on every start/stop I dont have to redeploy it.
    Thanks,

  • Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g on same machine...11g not working....

    Hello All,
    I have a dilemma.
I have a server that originally had 9i client installed.
We installed 10g and ODP .Net to gain use of some new funcionality used in .Net and batch processing.
Halfway through testing we realized that 10g's version of ODP.Net has a memory leak issue.
11g was found to correct this issue so we installed it on the server as well and it solved the problem.
    Life was good.
    9i, 10g, 11g, and ODP.net were all working well.
However, this was a test server. We now needed to go through the same installs for the production server.
On the night of the software install someone made a mistake and installed 10g on the test server again for the second time, after 11g was already installed.
So at this point the test server has:
    9i
    10g
    11g
    10g
And now many of the applications on the server are not working correctly and no amount of config changes seemed to fix it.
So we decided to uninstall 11g and then 10g and start over.
At this point we have 9i and 10g installed and the applications are working correctly.
We have tried to reinstall 11g and configure multiple times and 11g will simply not work.
I am stumped at this point. The application that actually does use 11g and ODP.Net simply stops executing at the point it attempts to open a connection with NO ERRORS.
An Exception does occur but there are no contents or error messages in the exception. I have never had this happen before. How do you fix an error you dont have?
So at this point I am just reaching out to see if anyone might have a suggestion. The next step might be to perform a system restore to the point where life was good (before 10g was installed a 2nd time after 11g).
    Anyone?

    Thanks gdarling.
I was hoping to just start the thread and go from there as sometimes information overload makes people pass on reading the whole post. I am glad you still read it:)
To start off with here are the entries (unedited in my PATH variable):
    E:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin;E:\oracle102\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1;E:\Orant9i\bin;
I recently moved the 9i path back to the front in order to get the other applications on the server working again as some were erroring out with this when 11.2 was first:
*"OCIEnvCreate failed with return code -1 but error message text was not available"*
I searched for a long time as to the cause of this error but did not turn up much. Most of the posts just mention that the client was installed incorrectly.
    Policy files:
I compared the assembly of the "working" server to the "bad" server and they appear identical as far as I can see.
    Directories
    -9i has one directory
-As you can probably see from the path, it still looks like there are 2 installations of 10g on the server. As well as remnants of three directories that resemble 10g install directories.
    -11g has one directory
    Couple observed behaviors:
    1.
running sqlplus from the 9i and 10g directories works.
running sqlplus from the 11g directory results in the following error:
    E:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin>sqlplus.exe
    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory
    2.
Running tnsping works from the 9i and 10g directories
Running tnsping from 11g results in this:
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on 13-MAY-2

05: Message 3505 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNS
*(NOTE: THIS ERROR ALSO OCCURS ON THE "GOOD" SERVER)*
    Registry:
There is a difference in the registry.
The "good" server has this entry in the ORACLE area:
    KEY_OraClient10g_home1
    KEY_OraClient11g_home1
where as the "bad" just has
    KEY_OraClient10g_home1
Both servers have ODP.Net folder containing:
    2.112.1.0
There are also other entires in this registry area but they are the same.
It wasn't our original intention to have all three clients on the same machine. Halfway through our system testing of a new process we realized the 10g has a memory leak which was corrected in 11g.
So we just installed 11g. These are supposed to be able to coexist right?
It sounds like we could have just installed 11g...
I am going to look into your suggestions.
As far as sysinternals I am a novice. And I am assuming it would need to be loaded on the server...is that correct? Or should I be using it on my local machine with the application in question running?
Getting more software (sysinternals) installed on the server might be a hurdle...
    Thanks again

  • How to start / stop nodes without domain-controller / automatically on Win?

    Hi,
we have a distributed installation of CMSDK 9.0.4.
We have installed a 9.2.0.4 Database on Solaris and we are using the 10g(9.0.4) Infrastructure on Solaris with it.
The first installation of CMSDK uses a J2EE-MidTier installation on the Solaris server and contains the CMSDK domain controller and a normal node with nfs protocol server running.
The other installations are done on Win2003 Blades. Currently we are using two Blades. On each there is a J2EE-MidTier installation and within these we have installed CMSDK with HTTP-Node and normal node. We are using NTFS-Server within the normal nodes.
The Blades are within one Domain and we have NLB-Cluster activated for both.
The whole thing sounds complex, but it works fine. We only have some trouble regarding start/stop of the nodes:
    1. If the solaris backend fails, our cluster-configuration tries to stop and start cmsdk. While stopping cmsdk, all nodes - even those on the Win-Servers - are stopped. But starting does not bring em up again automatically.
    2. If a Windows Server is booted, the normal node does not start automatically.
    3. If one Windows Server is not available, the ifsctl check takes a very long time because it's trying to get information from the missing one.
Is there a way to restart the domain controller and node on solaris without stopping the nodes on Windows?
How can we start the windows nodes automatically after reboot?
Is there a way to probably start the nodes without being managed / guarded by the domain controller?
    Thanks for help,
    Alex

Try adding this script to your /etc/init.d directory:
    #!/bin/sh
    ifsctl start << EOF
    <ifsctl password>
    EOF
Replace <ifsctl password> with the password that you would give at the prompt.
It will complain about Inappropriate ioctl for device, but it works.

  • Programmatically starting a cluster?

    All,
I've been using Coherence for many years and am now experimenting with Extend in the new 12.1.3 release.  I'm trying to run my storage nodes as a simple webapp in Tomcat.  My idea for starting to cache node was to use a ServletContextListener.  I would start the cache in contextInitialized() and stop it in contextDestroyed().
I can't get the startup to work correctly, however.  I need to use a method that doesn't block, so simply calling DefaultCacheServer.main() won't do.
The documentation at 8 Starting and Stopping Cluster Members (12c Release 2 (12.1.2)) is just plain wrong.  For example, there is no constructor to ExtensibleConfigurableCacheFactory that takes a single String as input.
Browsing the API, I see I'm supposed to do something like this:
    ConfigurableCacheFactory cacheFactory =
    CacheFactory.getCacheFactoryBuilder().getConfigurableCacheFactory(
    "coherence-server-config.xml",
    Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader());
    DefaultCacheServer dcs = new DefaultCacheServer(cacheFactory);
    dcs.startDaemon(5000);
At first this appears to work.  I get to "Started DefaultCacheServer..." and the output shows that it used the config file I told it to.
My config file has 1 cache scheme and 1 proxy scheme.  Both have autostart=true.
However when I try put() to the cache from an Extend client, I get "An exception occurred while processing a EnsureCacheRequest for Service=Proxy:ExtendTcpProxyService:TcpAcceptor: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Service "DistributedCache" has been started by a different configurable cache factory."  I guess that is telling me that those 2 services were started by different configs.  I didn't expect that.  Do I need to do something else to start start the services in addition to the cache service?
FWIW, these are all of the "loaded" lines in my output:

  • Oracle 10g/11g to Sql Server 2005 Migration

    Dear All,
I am a beginner to this migration Activities..
We have designed one Application which is havin Database as Oracle 10g.
and We had another small Application which is having Sql Server 2005 has Database.
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..
Pls help me how to convert Database in Oracle 10g/11g to Database in sqlserver 2005..

    Hello,
this is an Oracle forum and we are handling here migrations from foreign databases to an Oracle database.
For migrations in the other direction, in your case from Oracle to MS SQL Server, you need to read the Microsoft pages, e.g.:
    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration.aspx
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..Normally a migration is not a daily process, so I guess that you just want to transfer data from Oracle to SQL Server on a daily basis. If that is the case, you should consider to use our Gateways. Please start reading here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/gateways/index-100140.html
Using the Database Gateway for MS SQL Server (DG4MSQL) or the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) you can copy your data from your Oracle database to your SQL Server database, using a database link in the Oracle database.
Please let me know whether this answer helped you.
    Regards
    Wolfgang

:bad interperter : no such file or directorymeans that it could not find the interpreter which should be used to interpret the script.
most probably this is caused by the shebang (#!/bin/bash)
the default location of bash on RHEL (OEL/CentOS) is /bin/bash, which means that the shebang looks correct.
    can you make the shebang:
#!/bin/bash -xso shelltracing is put on and execute script again?
this will make clear if it is the shebang in your script, or in another script.
