Starting a ervlets from a applet

Hi, is it possible to start a servlets with an applet
thanks

Yes you can invoke a servlet from an applet.
In the applet :
<CODE>
URL url = new URL(here comes the servlet URL );
URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
con.setUseCaches(false);
con.setDoOutput(true);
con.setDoInput(true);
ByteArrayOutputStream byteOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
out = new ObjectOutputStream(byteOut);
out.writeObject(here you can send an Object to the servlet )
out.flush();
byte buf[] = byteOut.toByteArray();
con.setRequestProperty("Content-type","application/octet-stream");
con.setRequestProperty("Content-length",""+buf.length);
dataOut = new DataOutputStream(con.getOutputStream());
dataOut.write(buf);
dataOut.flush();
dataOut.close();
</CODE>
Hope this can help you.

  • Activate a Midlet from an Applet

    Hi,
    I am trying to activate a Midlet from an Applet? Is this possible in any of the latest J2ME releases?
    Using SATSA I am able to send APDU commands from the Midlet to the Applet and start a scenario where my Applet and Midlet exchange information.
    Is this available in the opposite direction. I want that my Applet, when triggered by an event, be able to Activate\Wake Up the Midlet.
    I am a newbie to J2ME and after researching the web, still couldn't find an answer. Thanks for your help.
    Bye.

    You can communicate with servlet from an applet, using URL connection, and then send POST/GET methods through HTTP protocol, here is a code snippet,
    // applet side, this method will send a POST method to the servlet and then get url openstream to read a
    // returned object from the servlet, params should be in the form param1=value&param2=value etc...
    public Object getObjectFromServlet(String servletName,String params) {
        Object object = null;
        try {
          URL url = new URL(codeBase,
                            contextRoot + servletName + params);
          URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
          con.setUseCaches(false);
          InputStream in = con.getInputStream();
          ObjectInputStream result = new ObjectInputStream(in);
          object = result.readObject();
          result.close();
          in.close();
        catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) {
          System.err.println("ClassNotFoundException caught:" + ex.getMessage());
        catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
          System.err.println("MalformedURLException caught:" + ex.getMessage());
        catch (IOException ex) {
          System.out.println("IOException caught:" + ex.getMessage());
        return object;
    //servlet side
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response){
          //Extract all the necessary supplied parameters from the request object and configurations.
           String param1 = request.getParameter("param1");
           String param2 = request.getParameter("param2");
      try {
            ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
            out.writeObject(object);
            out.close();
          catch (IOException ioe) {
            System.err.println("IOException caught:" + ioe.getMessage());
    }

  • Closing browser window from an Applet?

    I've written a series of applets that perform different functions. I placed a button on each applet with the purpose to close the window in which that applet is running. However I don't even know where to start looking to find out how to make my applet close it's own browser window. I know how to open a new browser window from an applet but not vice versa.
    Can anyone help please?
    Mark.

    Right, I sort of tracked down some code that uses getMethods to allow me to invoke a Javascript command. It is not pretty and took a little bit of editing to get to work but it does the job without putting JS stuff into my HTML.
    However it is causing some problems. If I open one of my other applets it will only let me close that window and the previous applets ceases to respond at all. I think this may be because the invoke gets the JSObject which is the window and somehow having more than one applet open in different windows is causing it to get confused and is locking the first window and only responding to the second.
    I have seen a much simpler method that uses:
    import netscape.javascript.*;
    and JSObject to get the window but my compiler complains about the import. Any further suggestions or an example would be welcome as my current solution is a bit limited as you can effectively only have one window open at a time which doesn't suit my needs.
    Many thanks.
    Mark.

  • [NEWBIE] How to open a frame from an Applet?

    Hi, I'm trying to open a JFrame from an Applet. Basically, I would like that, once the user selects an option from a JMenu, a Frame would be shown with a text box where user could type some content.
    I built both the Applet and the Frame, and singularly they work. When I execute the main method from the JFrame, the window appears, but when I execute something like the following from the applet:
    MyFrame mf = new MyFrame();
    mf.setVisible(true);nothing is shown. I'm sure that I don't know something, but I just started with applets.
    Thanks for any help,
    Marco

    If MyFrame is a subclass of JFrame, then it should not
    make any difference.
    What do you need the JFrame for? Can this be done
    using another "screen" by using a CardLayout?From a menu, when the user selects 'Start game' I need a text box coming out so that the user can insert a word. This word should then evaluate an instance member of the Applet.

  • How do I update a file in an Applet's JAR file from the Applet code

    Here's my problem.
    My applet is using a serializable history data in which I am storing in the applet's JAR file. When I run the applet, I read the file with "getResourceAsStream()" and run my program with that hist data. When my applet is closed, I need to update this file from my Applet's code and I dumfounded about how to do that.
    Is there any way to update a file in the Applet's JAR file through the Java Applet code? (i.e. OutputStream?).
    Would appreciate any advice people have.

    Just place a copy of the file on the local hard disk and update that. When you start the Applet you try to read from the hard disk. If the file exists then no problem otherwise copy it from the jar to the hard disk.

  • Calling a WebService from Java Applet

    Hi all,
    In my application I have 3 projects:
    1. server - for all the business logic.
    2. view - for web app.
    3. swing - for applet.
    In the view project I wrote a WS, and I want to call it from my applet. So I created a WS using the Jdev (10.1.3.2) wizard in the view project (I tested it and it worked fine), and in the swing project I created a proxy for this WS, tested it and it worked fine. Then I created a JAR containing the swing project with the WS proxy classes, opened the Applet and find out that I have some classes missing, so I started adding all the relevant Jars and ended with a ~13MB JAR containing all the swing project jars that in the class path for a simple Applet.
    I know that I'm missing something but I dont know what. Do I really need all those Jars. Is there a simple way to call to a WS via Applet?
    This is the list of all the Jars:

    Try this:
    1. open the webService data controll in the Data Controls section and drag the method from the webService onto the method call activity in your task flow. This will overwrite the current method property (the one which pints to your bean, make a copy of this entry if you can't reproduce it by hand). This too will create an entry in the pageDef of the method call activity.
    2. reenter (or paste) the original value in the method property, so that it again points to your bean. The entry in the pageDef will remain!
    3. now in the bean method you can access the method via its binding like you access any other method from the binding:
    // GET A METHOD FROM PAGEDEF AND EXECUTE IT
    // get the binding container
    BindingContainer bindings = BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    // get an Action or MethodAction
    OperationBinding method = bindings.getOperationBinding("YourMethodActionNAME");
    if (method == null)
    // handle method not found error...
    // if there are parameters to set...
    Map paramsMap = method.getParamsMap();
    paramsMap.put("param","value")  ;
    // execute the method
    method.execute();
    List errors = method.getErrors();
    if (!errors.isEmpty())
       // handle errors here errors is a list of exceptions!
    // no error resume normal workTimo

  • Calling EJB from an applet in 9iAS Release 2?

    Hello!
    In 9iAS Release 1 it is not so easy to call an EJB from an applet. First the applet needs special privileges and then the applet starts only once. The cause of problem is the implementation of ormi.
    Will 9iAS Rel. 2 support Applets calling EJBs?

    I am also trying to make an applet client for an EJB deployed to OC4J.

  • Writing new HTML to a page from an applet using LiveConnect, 1.3.1 Plug-i

    Has anyone been able to successfully replace a page with an applet with the dynamically generated HTML from an applet using LiveConnect and Plugin 1.3.1 in Netscape 6.2 or IE?
    The following works fine without plugin or with 1.4.0 beta3 plugin.
    Here is the code that I use without plugin:
    JSObject windowObject = JSObject.getWindow(this);
    JSObject documentObject = (JSObject) windowObject.getMember("document");
    documentObject.call("close",null);
    documentObject.call("open",null);
    String anArray1[] = {null};
    anArray1[0] ="some HTML here";
    documentObject.call("write", anArray1);
    documentObject.call("close",null);
    Here is the code that I use with 1.4.0 plugin:
    JSObject windowObject = JSObject.getWindow(this);
    JSObject documentObject = (JSObject) windowObject.getMember("document");
    String anArray1[] = {null};
    anArray1[0] ="some HTML here";
    documentObject.call("write", anArray1);
    When I try to use anyone of the above using plugin 1.3.1, the browser either hangs or plugin generates runtime error. What is the correct way of writing to a document object? Or what is the way that works for 1.3.1 plugin?

    Hi,
    I am doing this in my applet to replace the page containing the applet with the new content. I tested that extensively with Netscape 4.7 and IE 5.5+. Definitely works if you are using Java Plug-In 1.3.1_02. Does not work well in Netscape 6.2.
        protected void setPageContent(final String newContent) {
            final JSObject window = JSObject.getWindow(this);
            final JSObject document = (JSObject) window.getMember("document");
            new Thread( new Runnable() {
                            public void run() {
                                document.call("clear", null);
                                document.call("write", new String[]{newContent});
                                try {
                                              document.call("close", null);
                                   } catch (JSException ignored) {
                        } ).start();

  • WHY can't I access my database from an applet???????????

    The security code won't let my applet access its own database (from its own server)..
    I'm using getDocumentBase()
    to try and tell it that it is my own damn file..
    I keep getting :
    java.securityAccessControlException: access denied <java.util.PropertyPermission jdbc.drivers write>
    ...etc.
    This applet crap is really starting to piss me off. I can see why they came out with JSP.
    All I need to do is access my database, update it, etc. It kind of defeats the purpose of being able to do jdbc from applets if you can't even access the database on your own damn server.
    If you all don't have a clue, I'm freakin switching to PHP--I'm tired of this crap-I was thinking Java was a damn good language until I hit applets.

    The simple answer to your question is: Because of security concerns.
    The somewhat longer answer is that directly accessing a database from an applet is generally not a good idea. A lot of security-critical code like DB username/password must be hidden in the applet which potentially can be downloaded (and disassembled) by anyone that hits your webpage. Maybe you do an intranet solution with trusted users but that is not what applets were originally designed for.
    The clean way is to make your applet talk to a servlet that talks to your database.
    If that is not the way you want to do it, make sure that all client policy files (yes, on the browser machine) contain the permissions that your applet needs.

  • Call reports from forms applet

  • How to close the browser from an Applet?

    Santosh

    In my experience, calling Javascript from applets is flaky at best. However, I have gotten it to work in some cases. The following code should get you started:
    netscape.javascript.JSObject win = netscape.javascript.JSObject.getWindow(applet);
    Now you can call different methods on the win object (look into Javascript documentation for details).
    It also depends on if you are using the Java Plug-in or the JVM built into the web browser. You probably need set MAYSCRIPT=TRUE in your HTML. Look into the Java Plug-in documentation for details...

    How can I set this parameter from an applet to

    Thanks in advance!!You can't do it from the applet, since the vm is already started when you execute the applet. But I think you can do this after your applet has started.
    System.setProperty("java.rmi.server.hostname", "localhost");I'm not sure if an applet is allowed to do that (It can throw an security exception), but you could give it a try.

    Can someone please tell me what are the ways I can launch an application from an applet? Can you provide some examples, etc.
    Thanks,

    If you want to run an application, all you have to do is call it's main() method.
    public class AppApplet extends JApplet {
        public void init() {
            JButton button = new JButton("Start App");
            this.getContentPane().add(button);
            button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {

                    AppClass.main(args);
    public class AppClass {
        public static void main(String[] args) {

  • Load from an Applet

    Hi
    I have a problem, I want to load a file (XML) from an Applet. I have tried to select and to load a file with a FileChooser. Unfortunately, to loading a file from an Applet like I tried hasn't noticed possibly from security reasons. Somebody can help me along there.

    If you want to read a file from the client, you have to sign it.
    You don't have to sign your applet as long as the files you want to load have the same URL as your applet. Say your applet is started on mydomain.net/applet, it can read any files that have an URL starting with mydomain.net/applet, say mydomain.net/applet/test.xml.
