Starting a program from the shell into a vncserver running on 5901
I started a vncserver via `vncserver -geometry 1792x1008 -alwaysshared :1` and within it, I am running xfce4 just fine. I would like to start a program from a shell outside of the vncserver. I tried the following but got errors. What am I missing?
% DISPLAY=1.0 lxterminal
(lxterminal:17489): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: 1.0
Try
$ export DISPLAY=:1
$ lxterminal
That works over here.

I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

I had to restore my iMac from Time Machine. After the restoration all programs are functioning except my Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium. When I start any program in the suite the error message, "Licensing for this product has stopped working." I restarted the computer and tried again to run Photoshop and the same error message appeared. The message was followed by a message that stated that I needed to contact Adobe technical support and mention Error: 150.30. I need Adobe technical support to provide me a solution for my problem so I can continue using my Adobe products installed on my computer.
Unfortunately when Adobe products are restored from backup, especial CS4 and especially Mac, it breaks licensing.
There is a python script included in the license recovery kit that should work if you are familiar with Terminal.
If not, you must reinstall your CS4 suite. You don't need to delete your preferences, so it should be the same as before.

Why can't I drag and drop images from the browser into other programs?
Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 4 (even after I upgraded again to Firefox 5) I have been unable to drag images from the browser into other programs, including MS Paint and IcoFx. I receive an error message stating that the file (the address given lists it as being located in the temporary files folder) cannot be found.
Prior to this I had always been able to conveniently drag and drop images for easy editing without having to save first and then open them. This feature is important to me, as I work with graphics very often, and is still available in Chrome and Internet Explorer. I love Firefox though, and hope that there is something I can do to fix the problem.I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did : Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
Click OK.
Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
Works fine now. -
Running Java program from script shell using SSH

I have this problem: I need to run a java command like: java Prog arg1 arg2 arg3 on i machines, using a shell script.
First of all, I'm trying to make it work for a single machine. But the problem is when I write the line << ssh user@localhost "java -classpath /a/b/ Prog arg1 arg2 arg3" >> and run the script, it is not able to execute the entire line. Is there a special options for the arguments of my Prog class? I want to mention that between my arguments there is another text file which is read by the Prog and when i run the script says it cannot find that file; Please any ideas for not remain stuck here?

So, from the terminal under Linux I run the command like this: I go to my folder where I have all my .java Classes and I execute the command java Prog arg1 arg2 arg3 . Where arg1...arg3 are arguments which are read from the terminal and then used in my Prog. One of the arguments is a text file, from which Prog.java reads line by line it's content. How I can transfer data from the database into a variable (or array)?
I made my application according to the example (http://corlan.org/2009/06/12/working-in-flash-builder-4-with-flex-and-php/). Everything works fine. I changed one function to query the database - add the two parameters and get the value of the table in String format. A test operation shows that all is ok. If I want to display this value in the text area, I simply drag and drop service to this element in the design mode

It also works fine, just a warning and encouraged to use ArrayCollection.getItemAt().

yep, it won't work for Arrays, you'll have to do something slightly more intelligent for them.
easiest way would be to get your PHP to generate XML, then read that into something like an ArrayList on your HTTPService result event (depends what you're doing with it).
for example, you could have the PHP generate XML such as:

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

i have a mac os x ver. 10.5.8 2x2.8 quad. my start up disk is almost full. can i change my start up disk from the original hard drive to an additional hard drive i added in Bay 4?
Always want to keep the boot drive with more free space than may seem necessary for performance and to function at its best, 30-40% free or even 50% is not excessive.
Ideal is to separate your system from your data.
You should always have bootable backup / clone of your system
Don't use a green drive for system or data though.
When you are done cloning system and/or data, remove the old original and keep as backup.
Then move the system drive to #1 - no matter what you want to reset the default boot volume to where the system is.

Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.

Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.

I used to be able to copy and paste images from the internet into keynote slides and pages. Now when I copy and paste all I get is an empty box. My iskysoft iTube studio has also stopped downloading videos. Is there an extension I need to enable? Any ideas

I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac through the Apple website.. I have downloaded all from the disk into my Mac, no problem with all the other Word etc, but Outlook is asking for the key number: I have put it in but its obviously not the right one...???? In the box with the disk came the product key, have put it in and it doesnt work. Please help..x
unfortunately - you can not. you can't even buy outlook by itself at microsoft's own website.
does it have to be outlook? maybe you can get away with using something else that's outlook compatible.

Interoperability: WSDL-based Java client with MS SOAP server
Does anybody have the experience with a Java client communicating with Microsoft SOAP server based on the WSDL protocol? My initial experiece shows a lot of problems. Any information in this regard is appreciated. Thanks
