Starting oc4j in the background

Hello All,
Our server is on a Solaris box. I had to shutdown the oc4j server once.
Now when I start the server, it is locked to my session..meaning when I exit my session (I'm using putty), oc4j shuts down too.
How do I work around this?
Thanks!!

You can nohup it.
ie.
nohup startBI.sh &

  • Run OC4J in the background

    Is there anyway I can run OC4J in the background as an NT service?
    Thanks in advance.

    I took the approach above, and my experience was only partially successful. With some scrounging around newsgroups, orionsupport.com, and Sun's website, I came up with the following solution:
    Creating an NT Service for OC4J
    OC4J by default runs as a command shell application, so it is bound to a user's login session and will die if the user who called the start command logs off of the system. Oracle has not provided a version of OC4J that runs as a service on Windows-based servers, so here is a process to create a service using the freeware utility, RunExeSvc (http://www.winwinsoft.com/goodies/RunExeSvc/index.html). This utility is more user-friendly and flexible than tools such as srvany.exe and instsrv.exe in the NT Resource Kit.
    Dependencies
    1. RunExeSvc is installed
    (Unzip the runexesvc.zip file to a directory)
    2. Sun's JDK 1.3.1 is installed.
    (JDK 1.3.1 is required because a bug in prior versions of Sun's JVM for Windows killed any JVMs initiated by a user in that login session.)
    Installation Procedure
    1. Run the RunExeSvcAdmin.exe application
    2. Create a new service by copying the example script below into the Script window of RunExeSvcAdmin.exe. Some changes to drives and/or paths may of course be needed.
    3. Save the new entry and exit the application.
    4. The service should now appear in the services control panel. Changes may be required for its startup options.
    Example Script#########################
    # This script runs OC4J
    # RunExeSvc variables
    # if true, RunExeSvc will show internal status
    debug=false
    # the starting dir of the service
    home=e:\oc4j\j2ee\home
    # Running as an http server.
    cmdline=e:\jdk1.3.1\bin\javaw.exe -Xrs -jar orion.jar -out e:\oc4j_out.log -err e:\oc4j_err.log
    null

  • How run OC4J in the background

    Hello!
    How can I run oc4j in the background(without a window open) on a solaris box?
    I have tried 'nohup java -jar oc4j.jar &' but the startup seems to hang when I do this.
    Any ideas?

    Make sure you can write to nohup.out in the current directory.
    Also, I typically start my OC4J in /etc/init.d from my solaris machine and that seems to work nicely.
    Also try putting the 2>&1 at the end instead of in the middle.
    Of you could try using CSH vs. SH, some google hits mention that makes life easier.

    Hi everyone!
    I will be posting this in all "weird sounds topics" just so you know.
    These "weird" sounds you hear are from pacman.
    Today is Pacmans 30:th birthday and google wanted to celebrate by making the pacman game playable at their website "www.google.com".
    You will notice that their logo is changed to pacman with the map swapped out to the text "google".
    The game will probably just be here today so all noises will be gone by tomorrow. If you don't want to hear the sound today then please don't visit google or just turn your volume down.

  • How to Start Skype from the background from command line?

    Hello.
    My window manager is Evilwm and I am running Skype.  If I close the Skype window (the one w/ my buddies listed) the window closes but Skype is still running in memory.  On another window manager like Openbox a small Skype icon sits in the taskbar as long as it is running.  If I want to start Skype to see who is online I simply click the icon in the taskbar.
    Now, the question is...How can I start skype from the command line while it is running in the background?
    Evilwm doesn't have any taskbar or tray thingie...
    Any ideas?
    Any advice is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    nedson :?:

    Thats what I thought...
    What I wanted to do was call Skype from memory.  Under Evilwm I can close a window with ctrl-alt-x (using a hacked version of EvilWm) .  After cloasing the window with this method, skype is still running in memory (I can see it when running ps aux).  How can I call it out of memory?  I don't want to stop the program, start it back up and re login.  I just simply want to call it from the background...
    Any ideas?

  • When Starting OC4J, why the report server doesn't start automatically? !!

    Dear All,
    I have DS 10g on my system and I start the OC4J when I have to run either forms or reports.
    But when I attend to start the do the following command from the form:
    WEB.SHOWDOCUMENT(..../getjobid<jobid>?server=<servername>...), I have an error: FRM-41213: Unable to connect to the report server <servername>.
    I noticed that if I run the following URL:http://<server>:.../reports/rwservlet, it gives me a list of command, but the server still not running..But if I add any command to the above URL like for example "getserverinfo" or "showjobs" then the server is started. Now, and after the command, if we return back and we run the report from the form, the report will run successfully.
    The question WHY??

    If you are using Reports Server as an in-process server (the default configuration), sending a run report request starts the in-process server; however, if you are sending a request through a command line, the servlet must be invoked first using either the run report URL or the Web command URL. When you have successfully started the servlet, this also means you have successfully started the in-process server.
    If you use "Oracle Application Server", the "in-process" reports server will be started automatically by opmn ...

  • IMac starts in the background but all I see is a stalled spinning wheel

    Hi All,
    I'm hoping you can help me track down the problem with my Intel iMac (running Snow Leopard).
    Basically, when I try to start it up, the spinning wheel freezes after a few seconds AND then I hear the sound of Skype starting up in the background. However, I don't see anything except for the gray screen with the stalled spinning wheel and the Apple logo.
    It looks like the OS has started running in the background, however, it's not showing it on screen.
    I've tried to reinstall the OS, run it in Safe Mode, reset PRAM, HOWEVER, nothing works - i never get passed the gray screen and the stalled spinning wheel.
    Someone mentioned this might be due to corrupted/dead RAM chips...
    Hope you can help me!
    Thank you!!!
    e

    If you think there may be a hardware problem, run the Apple hardware test. Choose the extended test when prompted. You'll need your original OS X disks, and the test will take awhile to complete.
    You may have seen this Apple note on a gray screen at startup, as you've done some of the steps.

    can i have other way to start oc4j?
    Hi Fee,
    If you're running under linux, try running OC4J in the background with
    "nohup", as in...
    nohup java -jar $j2ee_home/orion.jar &

  • Auto-start OC4J process after Linux reboot

    Oracle 11gR2, OC4J 10g (10.1.3.5.0), RHEL5 64 bit
    Hi All,
    I am trying to figure out how to get my oc4j process start at boot time. I already have a dbora script setup. I tried adding the following line to my dbora/dbstart script but it did not do anything:
    #!/bin/sh
    # chkconfig: 345 99 10
    description: Oracle auto start-stop script.
    ORACLE_OC4J_HOME=/u02/oc4j
    JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21/
    su - $ORACLE_OWNER -c "$ORACLE_OC4J_HOME/bin/oc4j -start"
    I read somewhere that I may need to put the entire path like:
    /usr/bin/java -jar /path/to/oc4j.jar &
    Just not sure where and how to put that path in the file.
    Thanks for your help all.

    Hi,
    To run oc4j in the background, on Linux
    Execute the following command:
    nohup ./oc4j -start &
    to run oc4j in the background. The 'nohup' command ignores the hangup signal (closing the terminal window) and enables oc4j to continue running in the background.
    In rare cases, oc4j will not shutdown cleanly with the standard command:
    ./oc4j -shutdown -port 23791 -oc4jadmin <admin_pwd>
    In those cases, try the following command:
    java -jar admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:localhost oc4jadmin <admin_pwd> -shutdown
    to stop the oc4j service.
    Thanks,
    Sharmela

  • Starting OC4J not stand alone

    Can I start the OC4J not only from the command line but also when the Apache starts?
    I think when I close the command line window (WINDOWS) the OC4J stops running. Is it true?
    Thanks.

    Hi Manolis,
    On my PC -- running Windows2000 -- I can use the "start" command to start
    OC4J as a "background" process, i.e. it continues to run even after I
    close the DOS prompt window I used to type in the "start" command.
    Simply type "start" before your normal OC4J command, e.g.
    start java -jar oc4j.jar
    My version of OC4J is 1.0.2.2.1
    I think there was also a discussion on this forum about setting up OC4J
    as a "service" on Windows. Perhaps you could try searching the forum
    archives for this discussion?
    Hope this has helped you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    In searching the forum I've only found a couple of things that look similar and they suggest the problem is caused when a project is upgraded. The suggested solution is running the project in JDK 1.5. (see Error Attempting to Run JSP with 10.1.3.0.3.3412
    However, my project is a new project, created in 10.1.3, and in the project properties --> compiler settings, I've got the source and target set to 1.4. There hasn't been any upgrade to speak of, and my production environment is JDK 1.4.
    I get the same error upon creating a new web application, creating a JSF, placing some Output Text on the page and then attempting to run it.
    Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? If I can't run new applications, I'm in trouble...
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Thanks for the response, Shay.
    I was able to get the server to start up by changing the setting in Project Properties --> Libraries --> J2SE Version to 1.5.
    Are you saying, then, that regardless of which version of JDK you use to compile your project (Project Properties --> Compiler --> Source & Target, both 1.4 in my case), in order to run it on the embedded OC4J server you have to use 1.5 in the setting above? I just want to understand this so that I can be sure that my app will run on my production app server, which runs JDK 1.4. That's what I was referring to as "my production environment" in my original post.
    Thanks again,
    Andy

  • Error message when starting OC4J after deploying

    Hi, I hope someone can help me. I've been developing a J2EE project in JBuilder9 and OC4J 9.0.3. The problem occurs when starting OC4J after the application has been deployed. I'm using two MDBs and two Session Beans, one Stateless and the other one stateful. I'm using two topics with OJMS. I can access these topics from a standalone application, but when I try to lookup JNDI names from inside EJBs, I get a NamingException (name not found) Please I need some help
    OC4J error:
    D:\oc4j\j2ee\home>java -jar oc4j.jar
    Node started with id=678845146
    Error deploying file:/D:/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/LogicaNegocio/LogicaNegocio
    .jar homes: Topic has empty subscription name
    Oracle9iAS (9.0.3.0.0) Containers for J2EE initialized
    Error when executing standalone application client using EJBs:
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No resource named 'TopicConnecionFactories/TablaTopics' found in resource provider 'BeanProcesamientoMensajes'
    This error doesn't appear when looking up that topic with a standalone application w/o using EJBs
    Thanks in advance.

    make sure the datasource.xml in the config directory is right
    for example
         <data-source
              class="com.evermind.sql.OrionCMTDataSource"
              name="OracleDS"
              location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
              xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
              ejb-location="TopicConnecionFactories/TablaTopics"
              connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
              username="xx"
              password="xx"
              url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@172.16.113.2:1521:orcl"
              inactivity-timeout="90"
         />

  • Error in starting OC4J

    While trying to execute my OA page I get this error !
    The page shows an EXCEPTION..
    **** RMI port conflict detected. The RMI port will be reassigned to port 23892.
    **** IIOP port conflict detected. The IIOP port will be reassigned to port 5656.
    **** IIOP SSL port conflict detected. The IIOP SSL port will be reassigned to port 5657.
    [Starting OC4J using the following ports: HTTP=8988, RMI=23892, JMS=9227.]
    Please suggest

    Are you seeing this error when you try to start the OC4J_home component? Or when you try to start all of iAS?
    I would suggest that you attempt to start the components one by one to see which one has a problem with starting up...
