State of usb2 audio class compliance?

this isn't exactly archlinux specific but does anybody know the state of linux usb2 audio class compliance? I've understood that there was no audio specification for usb2 for quite some time and that made a big mess in the audio community. There is now but I wonder if it's properly implemented in linux/alsa? anybody has any experience? I have a class compliant usb2 soundcard myself, it also works in usb 1.1 luckily but you don't get all the bells and whistles with that..
Here's dmesg when I plug it in, last row is when I try to use it;
[ 2384.749399] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, device number 2
[ 2390.729825] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device number 3 using ehci_hcd
[ 2390.863654] generic-usb 0003:0926:0202.0003: hiddev0,hidraw0: USB HID v1.01 Device [Sound Devices USBPre2] on usb-0000:00:02.1-2/input3
[ 2418.388135] cannot submit syncpipe for urb 0, error -90: internal error
So it seems to be recognized properly....

From memory, isn't alsa-devel only for development-related discussion (not bug reports)? You could just bump the thread in alsa-users, its very high traffic last I checked.
Try Linux-Audio-Users as well.
I guess, but isn't this in a sence development related? A year old thread I read about a similar issue with the same error was in alsa-devel...

  • Compiler error when useing switch statements in an inner class

    I have defined several constants in a class and want to use this constans also in an inner class.
    All the constants are defined as private static final int.
    All works fine except when useing the switch statement in the inner class. I get the compiler error ""constant expression required". If I change the definition from private static final to protected static final it works, but why?
    What's the difference?
    Look at an example:
    public class Switchtest
       private static final int AA = 0;
       protected static final int BB = 1;
       private static int i = 0;
       public Switchtest()
          i = 0; // <- OK
          switch(i)
             case AA: break; //<- OK, funny no problem
             case BB: break; //<- OK
             default: break;
      private class InnerClass
          public InnerClass()
             i = 0; // <- OK: is accessible
             if (AA == i) // <- OK: AA is seen by the inner class; i  is also accessible
                i = AA + 1;
             switch(i)
                case AA: break; // <- STRANGE?! Fail: Constant expression required
                case BB: break; // <- OK
                default: break;
    }Thank's a lot for an explanation.

    Just a though:
    Maybe some subclass of Switchtest could decalare its own variable AA that is not final, but it can not declare its own BB because it is visible from the superclass. Therefore the compiler can not know for sure that AA is final.

  • State pattern and inner classes

    Hi,
    I'm implementing the standard state design pattern. I have an object and that object delegates certain operations to various state classes. My problem is the state classes may need private information of the context class. So I can think of a few designs:
    * make the private info of the context class default so the state classes can access them
    * make appropriate getters for the private info (so again the state classes can access them
    * pass the private info to the state classes
    * make the state classes inner classes so the state classes have access to private info with any change
    I would think the inner class solution is best. any comments? thanks.

    I prefer inner classes for state objects.
    But if they become very big, maintenance can be an issue and other approaches can be more appropriate.

  • Doubt in processing of  statements after calling JFrame class

    I have two java classes.
    The first one is Normal class and the second one is a JFrame class.
    In the first Class, i created an object for second JFrame class followed by a set of statements.
    Based on the input from the second class, i must process the statements, the problem i am facing is after creating the object for second frame class , the first class continues execution of the remaining statements. I must stop the execution of the statements until i get an input from the second class.
    How can i make the first class wait for an input from the second class.
    if possible provide me some source code.

  • Statements like 'List String .class' cause error.

    Consider the following simple code:
        Class<List<String>> cl;
        cl=List<String>.class;The first line is valid but the second one causes the "illegal start of expression" error.
    That's rather strange: the type
    Class<List<String>>is valid itself, but variables of that type cannot be assigned via the ".class" expression.
    Is this a bug or I am missing something?
    Thanks.

    Java generics aren't C++ templates; they don't cause new classes to be created based on parameter type.
    What this means is that for types...
    List<String> stringList = new ArrayList<String>();
    List<Number> numberList = new ArrayList<Number>();...the class of those lists is, in both cases, java.util.ArrayList...
    string.getClass().equals(ArrayList.class);
    numberList.getClass().equals(ArrayList.class);Neither class ArrayList<String> nor class ArrayList<Number> exist, because such generics information is wiped out at runtime. That's why an expression like...
    ArrayList<Number>.class...is illegal.

  • How to create a state view / alert view hosting more than one class?

    We have an applications which has two type of servers: one is connector server while another one is processing server. So I created two classes for each of them: ConnectSrvClass and ProcessSrvClass. Each of the class has a property "Type" to mark
    what kind of server it is.
    Now I want to create ONE SINGLE state view to display the state of both classes. Samething I want to create ONE SINGLE alert view to display alert coming from either type of the servers. Is it possible? If so, how?
    Thanks!

    Create an instance group, and then scope the view based on that group. This will work well for an alert view, but not as well for state view. If you want state view with multiple classes using same seed, then you can select the server role as base for
    those classes and display state of each in a single view. This is
    explained here.

  • HT4061 My Ipad was part of my tuition. My school "IIN" loaded all my audio and video classes on it. I diseabled it by entering the wrong passcode it says connect to Itune. How do I make sure I do not lose my classe recording by doing so? please help. Than

    Hello, I am and IIN Intitute of Integrative Nutrition in New York student. My iPAD 2 is part of my school material and was uploaded with all Videos and Audio classes for the whole program. I recently typed in my passwork incorrectly and disabled my iPad it is giving me the message " connect to i-tunes". I am afraid to loose my lectures. Could anyone help me with some information please? Thank you very much. Wouga22

    If you do not have a backup you are going to lose everything on your iPad and even if you do have one, you may still be out of luck.
    You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    Read this very carefully before you proceed. Sometimes iTunes will allow you to restore the iPad without having to use recovery mode, but if you need to use recovery mode and don't have a backup, that is where you may have a problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
    If you need recovery mode ....
    Recovery Mode Instructions
    Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
    If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
    If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • Using a variable from one class in another

    For learning purposes, I thought I'd have a stab at making a role-playing RPG.
    The first class I made was the Player class;
    public class Player
         public static void main(String[] args)
              // [0] being base points and  [1] being skill points
              int[] points = {50, 10};
              // Elements in statNames are relevent to stats, so stats[0] is health, and so on
              String[] statNames = {"Health", "Mana", "Attack", "Magic", "Craft"};
              int[] stats = new int[5];
         public static String setName()
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Character name: ");
              String name = input.nextLine();
              return name;
         public static void setHealth(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Health (" + points[0] + " base points remanining): ");
              stats[0] = input.nextInt();
              points[0] -= stats[0];
            public static void setMana(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Mana (" + points[0] + " base points remanining): ");

              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Attack (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[2] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[2];
         public static void setMagic(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Magic (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[3] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[3];
         public static void setCraft(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Craft (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[4] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[4];

              setMana(points, stats);
              setAttack(points, stats);
              setMagic(points, stats);
              setCraft(points, stats);
         public static void charSummary(String name, String[] statNames, int[] stats)
              System.out.println("\n------  " + name);
              for(int index = 0; index < stats.length; index++)
                   System.out.println(statNames[index] + ":\t" + stats[index]);
    }And that would be used in the Play class;
    public class Play
         public static void main(String[] args)
              Player player = new Player();
              String name = player.setName();
              player.setStats(points, stats);
         }     But I'm not sure how the Play class will get the arrays from the Player class. I tried simply putting public in front of the them, for example;
    public String[] statNames = {"Health", "Mana", "Attack", "Magic", "Craft"};But I get an illegal start of expression error.
    I may have taken the wrong approach to this all together, I'm completely new, so feel free to suggest anything else. Sorry for any ambiguity.

    HI XCD ,
    what about making Player class as
    public class Player
              // [0] being base points and  [1] being skill points
              int[] points = {50, 10};
              // Elements in statNames are relevent to stats, so stats[0] is health, and so on
              public String[] statNames = {"Health", "Mana", "Attack", "Magic", "Craft"};
              int[] stats = new int[5];
         public String setName()
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Character name: ");
              String name = input.nextLine();
              return name;
         public void setHealth(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Health (" + points[0] + " base points remanining): ");
              stats[0] = input.nextInt();
              points[0] -= stats[0];
            public void setMana(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Mana (" + points[0] + " base points remanining): ");
              stats[1] = input.nextInt();
              points[0] -= stats[1];
         public void setAttack(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Attack (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[2] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[2];
         public void setMagic(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Magic (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[3] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[3];
         public void setCraft(int[] points, int[] stats)
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.print("Craft (" + points[1] + " skill points remanining): ");
              stats[4] = input.nextInt();
              points[1] -= stats[4];
         public void setStats(int[] points, int[] stats)
              setHealth(points, stats);
              setMana(points, stats);
              setAttack(points, stats);
              setMagic(points, stats);
              setCraft(points, stats);
         public void charSummary(String name, String[] statNames, int[] stats)
              System.out.println("\n------  " + name);
              for(int index = 0; index < stats.length; index++)
                   System.out.println(statNames[index] + ":\t" + stats[index]);
         }and Play class
    public class Play
         public static void main(String[] args)
              Player player = new Player();
              String name = player.setName();
              player.setStats(points, stats);
         }Now you can access names , you can't assign keyword to variable into method scope , make it class variable .
    Hope it help :)

  • Import Statement Different ways to refer ???

    Dear Friends,
    Can any one help me the difference between the usage of import statement....
    1. using import statement
    2. using the class directly
    that is,
    for example ;
    1. import java.util.Date;
    Date dt = new Date();
    2. java.util.Date dt = new java.util.Date();
    what's the difference between two reference of Date class...is there any meaning beyond this ?????
    Regards,
    V.Prasanna

    what's the difference between two reference of Date
    class...is there any meaning beyond this ?????there is no difference once the code is compiled - the compiler resolves single class names to their fully-qualified names (ie with the package prefix) and that appears in the .class file constant pool
    before compilation then my opinion is that having all the imports at the top of the file is good practice because you can see what is being used easily

  • Import Statement without ID Specification

    There is an import statement
    IMPORT tab g_acc_tab FROM MEMORY.
    While UCChecking it.. it saying that
    import statement without id specification is only used for the sake of r/2 ......
    Can i Comment it ? If so won't my application  go into dump while running on 6.0cc???

    It has to do with packages. Most java classes are in a package, the name of which must conform to its place on the filesystem relative to the classpath. By that I mean that if you have com.mystuff.One.java, it must be in a folder com/mystuff where com is located somewhere in the classpath.
    What you've done is a little different. I'm assuming a couple of things:
    1. you have no package declaration at the top of one.java or two.java
    2. you have the current directory "." in your classpath.
    Java has the concept of the "default package", which covers classes without a declared package, and in your case is the current directory.
    So when you're in c:\sourcefolder and run the compiler, then "."="c:\sourcefolder", and that directory is part of the default package. No import statements are necessary for classes that are in the same package. This is why two.java can call methods in one.java without an import statement.
    When you run your jsp, the "current directory" part of your classpath is not c:\sourcefolder, but some other value (probably the directory you start your jsp engine from) You will have to import all non-java-library classes because the jsp itself becomes a java class, with a package that is determined by the jsp engine.

  • Import statement and directory structure

    First of all, sorry for such a long post, I believe part of it is because I am unsure of the concept of importing in Java. Secondly, Thanks to anyone who can ultimately enlighten me to the concept of import. I did ask this question before in the "erorr and error handling" forum, and the people who have helped me there did a great job. But, I believe I require a little more clarification and thus have decided to post here.
    Anyhow, my question..
    Could someone explain to me the concept of the import statement, or direct me to a webpage with sort of explanation for newbies? For some reason, I am having a hard time grasping the concept.
    As I understand it, the import statement in Java, is very similar to the namespace keyword in C. That is to say, import doesn't actually "import" any source code, the way that the #include statement does in C.
    So I suppose what my question is, say I have a java class file like below:
    //filename: sentence.java
    //located: c:\school\csc365
    package csc365;
    class sentence
    //some variables here..
    //some constructor here..
    //some methods here..
    And some sample program like the one below which implements the above..
    //filename: test.java
    //located: c:\school\csc365
    import csc365.*;
    import java.io.*;
    class test.java
    //creates some sentence object
    //uses the object's methods
    //some other things.
    As I understand it, the test.java file should not compile because the csc365 package is not in the correct directory. (assuming of course, the classpath is like c:\school\csc365;c:\school )
    But, ... where then should the sentence.java be located? In a subdirectory of c:\school called csc365 (i.e c:\school\csc365\) ?
    And thus that would mean the test.java file could be located anywhere on the hard drive?
    I suppose, I just need a little clarification on the correlation between a package's "name" (i.e package csc365; ) and its corresponding directory's name, and also how the javac compiler searches the classpath for java classes.
    ..So, theoretically if I were to set the classpath to look in every conceivable directory(provided the directory names were all unique) of the harddrive, then I could compile a test.java anywhere?
    As a note: I have been able to get the test.java file to compile, by leaving out the import statement in the test.java file, and also leaving out the package statement for the sentence class, but I assume this is because the files are defaulted to the same package?

    Hi Mary,
    No, import isn't analogous to C++ namespace - Java package is closer to the namespace mark.
    import is just a convenience for the programmer. You can go your whole Java career without ever writing an import statement if you wish. All that means is that you'll have to type out the fully-resolved class name every time you want to use a class that's in a package other than java.lang. Example:
    // NOTE: No import statements
    public class Family
       // NOTE: fully-resolved class names
       private java.util.List children = new java.util.ArrayList();
    }If you use the import statement, you can save yourself from typing:
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.List;
    public class Family
       // NOTE: fully-resolved class names
       private List children = new ArrayList();
    }import isn't the same as class loader. It does not bring in any source code at all.
    import comes into play when you're compiling or running your code. Java will check to make sure that any "shorthand" class names you give it live in one of the packages you've imported. If it can't find a matching fully-resolved class name, it'll give you a message like "Symbol not found" or something like that.
    I arrange Java source in a directory structure that matches the package structure in the .class files.
    If I've got a Java source file like this:
    package foo.bar;
    public class Baz
       public static void main(String [] args)
            Baz baz = new Baz();
            System.out.println(baz);
       public String toString()
           return "I am a Baz";
    }I'll store it in a directory structure like this:
    root
    +---classes
    +---src
          +---foo
               +---bar
                    +---Baz.javaWhen I compile, I go to root and compile by typing this:
    javac -d classes foo/bar/*.javaI can run the code from root by typing:
    java -classpath classes foo.bar.BazI hope this wasn't patronizing or beneath you. I don't mean to be insulting. - MOD

  • Import statement in .java files and .jsp files ..correction

    Guys I have few mysteries about this import statement.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.
    1)Suppose if I have a folder c:\SourceFolder it has one.java and two.java files.If I compile one.java then one.class files is created in c:\ClassFolder .Now two.java uses one of the method of one.java,and without using import statement in two.java I am able to compile two.java, and two.class file is created in c:\ClassFolder.I assume that the path of one.class was taken from the CLASSPATH environment variable,hence I there was no need for import statement .........am i right ?
    BUT... in My.jsp,which is in C:\JspFolder, if I want to use one.class,then I have to specifically import one.class in My.jsp .That is i have to say
    <%@page import="one"%>
    in My.jsp.
    and since the classpath is C:\ClassFolder ,it finds one.class in the C:\ClassFolder and MyJsp is compiled sucessfully.(Note that My.class is created in a folder different from c:\ClassFolder )
    But I am wondering why was there no need for me to import one.class in two.java.
    (Note I am using JDeveloper and Apache server)

Ive then written a method which should take the userId no that has been sent to the method in the UserCode parameter find the same number in the custid array if it does it should then check the same position of the pin array and check that the pin number matches the pin no. the method has received in PINCode parameter.
    At the moment my method receives the parameters checks the userId no. but doesnt move on and check the PIN array.
    Any help would be great as Ive been staring at this for days now and I cant see the wood from the trees!
    public boolean checkPinAndUserId(String pinCode, String userCode)
              boolean found = false;
              for (int i = 0; i < userId.length; i++)
                   if (userCode.equals(userId))
                        if (pinCode.equals(pin[i]))
                                  found = true;
                        return found;

    I've posted my code in full so hopefully everyone can see exactly what I have been doing.
    Note - my code uses the observer/observable model. The method I am having the problem with the if statement is in the class HSBC as are the string arrays. in the class ATM in the action performed PINInput button events section, when the pin count reaches 4 it sends the parameters over to the HSBC checkpin&userid method.
    I've used the System.out.println() statements to see what's going on and it receives the parameters checkes the userid array but does not move on to check that the pin parameter matches the pin array?
    Any help would be great - Hope this helps.
