  • Migrating Oracle forms and reports from 6i to 10g Application server on Uni

    HI Guys,
We are migrating from Oracle forms and reports 6i to 10g.
We will be having application server on Unix box.
I understand following will be the changes i will have to do in this respect -
    1. Fonts are to be revisited only Java fonts are supported.
    2. Obsolete items, function calls, triggers are to be removed.
My question is since this application can be cross platform application,
Can anyone provide me with changes that I will have to do with configuration files like -
    1. Formsweb.cfg,
    2. forms.conf
    3. default.env
    4. registry.dat
Keeping in mind that the application server will be on unix box.
    Thanks,
    Av.

Java fonts are only supported for the Forms version.
You can use your own fonts for Reports however, there is some legwork to do this. I know because I just went through it.
If you will only being using the PDF output (which for me replaced the Preview mode that existed in 6i), then you have to install the TTF for the missing font, an AFM (use the ttf2pt1 utility to generate the AFM file, but make sure you remove the AFM extension when moving it to Unix). You'll want to use the PDF Subset in the uifont.ali (which exists under the ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin directory and add the line underneath the PDF Subset "Font Family Name"="TTF Font Name" The font family name is found when you open the AFM file in textpad or wordpad for the font you generated. This is what you enter. The TTF Font Name is the name the TTF font. You'll have to restart Reports Server after this.
If printing to the printer directly is an option you must have, I will tell you it does not work in Linux right now. You can print to the printer but if the font doesn't exist on the internal memory of the printer, it won't work. There are 3rd party utilities like ORARRP and PDFPrint that can take care of this but, each has its own limitations. The one thing I found with ORARRP is if you generate a Report with an RRPA file extension and open it on Windows, it works great, the printer dialog comes up asking you what printer you want to print too. However, if you call this in Linux/Unix with the filename, it brings it up in the web browser but doesn't prompt you for your printer to print too automatically. So, for me, it's a show stopper. My only other option is to install the fonts on the printer that are missing.
As for the files you want to change, you'll obviously have to make changes to the formsweb.cfg, default.env, forms.conf. I have to modify the reports.sh for some PL/SQL attached libraries to make sure it picks them up. I did have to modify Registry.dat.
There is alot of work but mainly forms wasn't too bad, unless you had fonts that weren't supported. Usually there is another font that you can use to replace the old one but you have to know which fonts exists on the server and try all the keys on the keyboard to find the corresponding keystroke.
    Hope this helps.

  • Query on install Oracle AS Forms and Reports Services

    Hi All,
I want to install 'Oracle Internet Application Server Products - Forms and Reports', I referenced the 'Forms and Reports Services Installation Guides 10g Release 2(10.1.2) for Windows B16392-02'.
I install successfully up to Chapter 5.
When I jump into Chapter 6 of the release (Configuring Forms and Reports Services to Use an Oracle Application Server Infrastructure), I followed the guideline but could not see my AS has any way to allow me to configure Oracle Identity Management/OracleAS Metadata Repository/Starting OPMN Services/Testing the Configuration.... Is it because my AS is just for Forms and Reports and not a full feature one? How I can test my AS is working?
On the other hand, is it possible to migrate forms and reports from old version like Developer 2000 4.5 to 10g? Any reference or suggestion?
And what I need to do more with the current AS in order to allow me to upload forms and reports to it? Please kindly advise.
    Best Regards
    AC

    Hi AC!
There are two versions of Forms and Reports: one standalone and one as part of the Application Server. The second one will offer the Infrastructure. If you use the second one then you will have an Infrastructure after the installation.
Seems to me that you do not have the complete AS but the standalone version.

    Hi,
Here's the Forms and Reports Services Deployment Guide for OAS 10g 10.1.2:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/toc.htm
You will need to modify your default.env to point to the directory where your .fmx is located and formsweb.cfg to run the specific form, e.g. foo.fmx (default is test.fmx).

  • How To Configure My Forms And Reports In IAS10g?

    Hi Gurus,
    I installed database 10g,IAS10g,forms and reports10g(J2EE/OC4J

    Hi,
you should be able to do the same because Forms and Reports are automatically set up. You need to customize the tnsnames.ora of te applicationServer Network/Admin directoy to point to the database you created. Then you configure the Forms application in the formsweb.cfg file of the Forms/server directory
The access is through the HTTP port of the application server

  • Forms and Reports 10g run on the other client machine

    Dear Sir,
Please tell me how to run forms/reports which is compiled/build in ORACLE 10g.
I mean that I have build some forms and reports in Oracle 10g now I want to run them on another client machine without creating oracle application server. Is there any way to run
As example in oracle 6.0 i we only install forms and reports services at client machine and ours froms/ reports are running. Can we do so in 10g also ??
    Please guide me about it.
    Ghulam Yassen

without creating oracle application server. That is not possible. Forms 10 only runs in web mode, so you need the OAS with the Forms and Reports sever (OAS Enterprise Edition) or the Forms and Reports 10g stand alone server.
in oracle 6.0 i we only install forms and reports services at client machineForms 6i was the last version that you can run in client/server mode.

  • Is discoverer  included with forms and reports ?

Can anyone confirm whether Discoverer is included in the forms and reports server installation (10g) or does it require the full application server.
Does it need the infrastructure database ?
    Is there a discoverer forum ? ( I can't find it )

    Kevin,
in 10g R1 in the Forms&Reports-Installation there's only installed, what Forms and Reports need (HTTP, OIC4J, ..). Discoverer can only be installed with the full Enterprise Edition Installation which needs an infrastructure.
This could change in future, but now there's no way around the infrastructure for Discoverer.
By the way: Discoverer Forum is Nr. 56:
    Discoverer

  • Migration MS ACCESS FORMS and Reports to Oracle (Java or Forms or Reports)

    Hello ,
can someone tell me, how i can migrate a whole MS ACCESS 2000 mdb (with forms and Reports) to Oracle.
I think i have first migrate the Access DB with the OMWB to Oracle and in the next Step to convert the VBA Code to JAVA or Forms9i.
BUT Is there a tool available for Migrating VBA code like the OMWB ????

I don't know if this is an obvious question, but do you have MS Access 2k installed on the machine you are trying to run this from? I'm assuming yes.
If you do and there is still a problem, you should log a ticket for support who will take your mdb and help out with the issue for you.
    Many thanks

  • Migration of forms and reports developed using Headstart  VERSION 3.4.1

    Hi,
We have developed an application in forms 4.5 reports 2.0 based on repository 1.3.2 and Headstart
    Designer/2000 Template Package VERSION 3.4.1
Now we want to migrate to Oracle 9i(web enabled)
1)Is it possible to migrate only the forms and reports in 4,5 to 9i without the designer repository? Can the repository be left out?
2)What about the templates and packages on the 2000 Headstart version. Is it necessary to migrate the same to 9i also?
2)In case the repository has also to be migrated how do i go about migration to 9i??
4)In case the headstart template/packages to be migrated how do i migrate to 9i?
5)Where is the documentation available for headstart?
    Kindly help..

    Hi 23768 ( ;-) ),
There is a whole wealth on information regarding upgrade/migration of headstart generated application systems.
What you need is a licence on iDevelopment Accellerators and the Supplement Option (cso.oracle.com) to download this material.
Contact your Oracle Consulting representative if you would like to know how to do this.

  • Forms and Reports 6i to web migration

    Hello,
Is there any white paper that describes about how to migrate from client server architecture to a web running on UNIX?
We are migrating from forms and reports 6i running on windows to web running on UNIX with the versions of products.
    Thanks in advance.

    check this out:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/content.html
I have tried running Forms/Reports 6i servers on Solaris 8. It was different than using the 9iAS EE forms/reports services - but the concept is similar. I also used whitepapers that I downloaded from Metalink which were explaining the client/server and the web form design differences (such as when-mouse tringgers won't work in web forms, etc).

  • Tracking calls to Forms and Reports in an application - Migration

    Hello,
This is an interesting case. I have an application that has a number of Forms and reports written for 6i. Before I start migrating to 10g, I want to have an estimate of the current usage for this app (for one month), namely the number of times users accessed the forms and the reports.
    For example:
    Form A accessed 675 times
    Form B accessed 30 times
    Form M accessed 0 times
    etc..
    sames things for the reports.
Based on this statistics, I can say which ones should be migrated first, etc...
Now, I was thinking about creating a table called USAGE and each time a user clicks on the menu that calls a Form or a report, I will update the corresponding record in USAGE.
The problem here is that users can access a report or form from within other forms and as such the info I get from the Menu will be only a rough estimate. I need to point out that I don't want to open ALL the forms and check whether there are other calls from there.
What do you think of this approach and if someone was faced with the same issue, what would be the best bet to get the usage estimate.
Note: The app is used quite heavily.
    Thanks

That's one possibility but the thing is that I don't want to open ALL the fmbs and then add that piece of code.
That's why I want to just work on the Menu and try gather statistics from there. However, that will give me only a rough estimate.
I was looking at Oracle Trace and I am checking whether I can get the required info (Forms and reports names) from this log for a client/server Forms app. However, I would prefer to see whether someone already had experimented with this.
    Thanks.

  • Forms and Reports: Automated Test tools - functionality AND performance

    All,
    I'm looking to get a few leads on an automated test tools that may be used to validate Oracle forms and reports (see my software configuration below). I'm looking for tools that can automate both functional tests and performance. By this I mean;
    Functional Testing:
    * Use of shortcut keys
    * Navigation between fields
    * Screen organisation (filed locations)
    * Exercise forms validation (bad input values)
    * Provide values to forms and simulate user commit, and go and verify database state is as expected
    Performance Testing:
    * carry out tests for fixed user load
    * carry out tests for scaled step increase in user load
    * automated collection of log files and metrics during test
    So far I have:
    http://www.neotys.com/
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Mathew Butler
    Configuration:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux x86-64 architecture v4.5 64 bit
    Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
Oracle Developer Suite (Oracle Forms and Reports) V10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
    Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.17 or later
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

are there any tools for doing this activity like oracle recommended tools?
Your question is unclear.  As IK mentioned, the only tool you need is a new version of Oracle Forms/Reports.  Open your v10 modules in a v11 Builder and select Save.  You now have a v11 module.  Doing a "Compile All PL/SQL" before saving is a good idea, but not required.  The Builders and utilites provided with the version 11 installation are the only supported tools for upgrading your application.  If you are trying to do the conversion of many Forms files in a scripted manner, you can use the Forms compiler in a script.  Generating new "X" files will also update the source modules (fmb, mmb, pll).  See MyOracleSupport Note 955143.1
Also included in the installation in the Forms Migration Assistant.  Although it is more useful to people coming from older versions, it can also be used to move from v10 to 11.  It allows you to select more than one file at a time.  Documentation for this utility can be found in the Forms Upgrade Guide.
