Store Image through Servlet

I want to store a JPG image into database column through Servlet
and dispaly it on a JSP page through Beans
how can i ?

Any requests made to a JSP are of a certain content. Generally you make a request to a JSP page it sends back a "text/html" document. There is noi binary data as such just text.
Images on a page are displayed because the "src" attribute of the image tag points to a server location. This in turn returns content of type "image/*".
A servlet can retrieve/generate your images for you for example you could point to a servlet:
<img src="/system/imageServlet">
I guess a JSP can do the same (I've never tried it) just remember to set the response.contentType to "image/gif"/"image/jpg".....

Anthony

  • Displaying Images through Servlets

    I am using Servletrunner utility to run my servlets. How can I display Images along with other HTML text, to the Browsers through Servlets?

    Print out the <img> tag. The URL you use may in turn reference another servlet that produces an image. You can look at the Java2D (and perhaps Java3D, if you want 3D images) to help you produce the images.

    Actually User will be given option to upload any picture.
    The forms are running in Client Server environment. no web forms.
    user will be given option to insert/upload picture so that any item to be ordered can be seen by management before they place order for it.
    I dont knwo how to give facility which allow users to upload picture and allow management to view picture..
    Will these picture be stored in Database ... How.. ???????????
    IF anyone can send me code / or help out in explaining the code . i would be obliged .
    Plz clear the concept and tell me the way i have to store them... Most of the pictures will be in Jpeg or PNG format.. but a few can be in BMP format as well.

  • How do I store images in a jar file to be displayed on a jsp?

    Afternoon all,
    I have created a java component which accepts some parameters and returns a string. The returned string contains html tags to display a table in a webpage when rendered through a browser.
    I want to be able to add this component to any java web project to display my table. The problem is that I want to use images in my table to give the appearance of curved corners.
    How do I store images in my component and render to a webpage?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

    You won't be able to make the install of this library as simple as the installation of a jar file. You can't access the images directly in the jar.
    There are a few approaches you can take:
    1 - jar file + resources:
    Have the install as being a jar and a "resources" directory which you store all the images in. Thus the images become part of the web application/web site and are accessible. Probably need to allow an entry in web.xml to configure where/what this directory is called.
    2 - jar file only:
    Provide a servlet to access the images, which will load them from the jar file, using the ClassLoader.getResourceAsStream(). Requires declaration of a servlet in the web.xml file. Won't be as efficient as having the images on disk, but will keep them bundled in the jar file.
    you would generate code such as <img src="myImgServlet?img=.....">

    Yes, I am using custom work flow.
    I added new property for alternate text to existing content type Banner. When I try to update value for alternate text it throws error: A RepositoryException was thrown: null
    Even if i try to delete added property it throws error :
    A RepositoryException was thrown: The type Banner has existing node instances. Therefore the removal of property definition alt is not allowed.
    Is there alternate way to add property to existing content type through weblogic content management console?

  • Oracle NoSQL through Servlet.

    Hello Everyone,
    I am trying to execute the nosql operations on server through servlet. I want to make an client server application but dont know why the CONNECTION TO KVSTORE IS NOT ESTABLISHED WHILE EXECUTING ON SERVLET.
    So is there any separate configuration needed to do so?
    Thanks In Advance.

    Could you be more explicit please?  What is the exact error you are seeing?
    Please explain in detail what is the issue you're facing.
    If you want to access an Oracle NoSQL Database KVStore through a servlet the best way would be to use a ServletContextListener in your web app that gets the KVStore handle and places it in application/context scope as an attribute (so that all servlets and JSPs would have access to it) and also closes the handle when the web app gets shut down.  You could even supply the store name, store host name and store host port (the helper host port -- hostName:hostPort) through the web.xml web app config file.
    Here is a simple example of such a ServletContextListener:
    import javax.servlet.ServletContext;
    import javax.servlet.ServletContextEvent;
    import javax.servlet.ServletContextListener;
    import javax.servlet.annotation.WebListener;
    import oracle.kv.KVStore;
    import oracle.kv.KVStoreConfig;
    import oracle.kv.KVStoreFactory;
    * KVStoreClientContextListener implements ServletContextListener, hence it will be
    * invoked when the application context is initialized and destroyed.
    * @author Andrei Costache
    @WebListener
    public class KVStoreClientContextListener implements ServletContextListener {
        @Override
        public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sce) {
            ServletContext sc = sce.getServletContext();
            KVStore ondbstore = null;
            try {
                // Try to get the store name, store host name and store host port from web.xml,  as context attributes.
                // If they are not available, then default to the values specific to a default KVLite instance.
                String storeName = (String) sc.getAttribute("storeName");
                String hostName = (String) sc.getAttribute("hostName");
                String hostPort = (String) sc.getAttribute("hostPort");
                if (storeName == null) {
                    storeName = "kvstore";
                if (hostName == null) {
                    hostName = "localhost";
                if (hostPort == null) {
                    hostPort = "5000";
                // Get the KVStore and place it as an atribute in application/context scope.
                ondbstore = KVStoreFactory.getStore(new KVStoreConfig(storeName, hostName + ":" + hostPort));
                sc.setAttribute("ondbstore", ondbstore);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                sc.log("Could not get a KVStore instance");
        @Override
        public void contextDestroyed(ServletContextEvent sce) {
            KVStore ondbstore = null;
            ServletContext sc = sce.getServletContext();
            try {
                ondbstore = (KVStore) sc.getAttribute("ondbstore");
                if(ondbstore != null) {
                    ondbstore.close();
            } catch (Exception e) {
                sc.log("Could not successfully close the KVStore handles");
    In your servlets or JSPs you will simply retrieve the KVStore handle from the servlet context, where it is found as a context scope attribute:
    KVStore ondbstore = (KVStore) getServletContext().getAttribute("ondbstore");
    and do whatever operations you want using the KVStore handle.
    You will need the NoSQL Database kvclient.jar -- either your web container / application server can load it, or you could copy it under the WEB-INF/lib directory so that it gets loaded when your web app gets deployed and started.  (kvclient.jar is found under kv-M.N.P/lib).

    Andrei

  • Where to store images in webapp?

    Hello.
    I'm designing an web application which main purpose is to store and view images that users has stored.
    I'm considering that where is the best place to store those images? I have at least two options: relational database or filesystem. Is it bad idea to store images in database? What are the downsides?
    The user's images has to be seen only by the user itself, that is to say others should not get the user's private images. How this can be made by filesystem? I have thinking some kind of "ImageServlet" to where you pass image's id by parameter and the servlet checks that the requester has priviledges to fetch the image eg. is the owner of the image (fetching userinformation from the session). The application will have also a feature that the user can "share" some images to known persons. The "ImageServlet" can fulfil that requirement also.
    Am I in right direction or does somebody have a better idea?
    -Robert-

    Ok maybe I do the matrix and consider the things that have been came up.
    I was wondering one thing. If I choose store images in database, what about db connections? Them are anyway resources that are always scarce even if there is connection pool in use. Could that be stumbling block? Because the application's nature is, that there can be lots of pictures, users create picture albums and can view them later.
    Nevertheless, I still think that I need to design some kind of "ImageServlet" to get the pics. I was wondering something like this:
    In JSP/HTML page images are referenced by img tag like this
        <IMG src="ImageServlet?name=pic1" width=... height=...><BR/>
        <IMG src="ImageServlet?name=pic2" width=... height=...>
        <!-- etc -->In ImageServlet pics are served eg. like this (this is just example to show what I'm thinking)
        // check if user have rights to access to pic
        checkUserRights();
        resp.setContentType(...);
        resp.setContentLength(...);
        // imageStore could fetch the image from database or filesystem
        InputStream picStream = imageStore.getImage(req.getParameter("name"));
        OutputStream out = resp.getOutputStream();
        byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
        int count = 0;
        while ((count = pic.read(buf)) >= 0) {
          out.write(buf, 0, count);
        pic.close();
        out.close();Is there some drawbacks, if pics are sent to requester using OutputStream?

  • Cannot buy from app store and app store images missing

    Hi Everyone,
    I have a 1st gen iPod touch running iOS 3.1.3 which is the latest version I can install. Everything was fine until yesterday morning when out of the blue, I could no longer download anything from the app store. The buy / download button does not work. Also, many of the app store images are missing.
    I have restored the iPod to a clean install but the problem remains.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Richard

    In case you haven't run across it yet, there seem to be a bunch of threads in this forum with lots of people having the same issue.  My original iPhone running iOS 3.1.3 is having the same problems you describe.  (Plus, my old laptop died, so I can't download apps through a computer until I get a new one.)  My personal opinion is that it's a problem on the server side of things.  Not sure whether Apple has decided to quit supporting these earlier iOSes or if it's a problem they're trying to fix.  Keeping my fingers crossed that Apple is planning to fix it, and it will be done soon.

    I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
    Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
    I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
    I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
    Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

    I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
    sorry I can't be of more help
