Store input characters in an array

I am trying to read characters from Keyboard. And then I have to print a fixed number of characters on each line.
Below is the code I used for inputing the characters. But I am trying to put every character into an array. Can I use
read(char[] cbuf, int offset, int length)
Read characters into a portion of an array.
But I dont know the length. HOw can I make it to work?
class IChar {
public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException
    char c;
         BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new       InputStreamReader (System.in));
       System.out.println("Enter the characters");
do {
c = (char) br.read();
}  while (c != 'q');

Read the text into a String or StringBuffer. Then use substring() to break it up into the chunks you need.

  • Cannot Store Chinese Characters In Oracle 9.2.0.7 Database

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble localizing my Oracle 9.2.0.7 / ASP web application for our Chinese-speaking users.
    My Oracle 9.2.0.7 Database has NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET set to AL16UTF16.
    I've set up a test table thus:
    CREATE TABLE "TBL_TEST_CH"
    field1                          NVARCHAR2(40),
    field2                          NVARCHAR2(40)
    I have the Chinese character set installed on my database / web server (same box), as well as a test client machine. I can see Chinese characters in my web browser, and can enter them in a test ASP page I've set up. When I execute an insert statement via ADO, the insert statement seems to work, but the result is that the data seems to be stored as upside-down question marks.
    I thought perhaps the data was being somehow scrambled between the web app and the database, so I set up an external table import the Chinese data from a Unicode text file:
    CREATE TABLE kenny.ch_import
         FIELD1          NVARCHAR2(255),
         FIELD2          NVARCHAR2(255)
         ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL (TYPE oracle_loader
         DEFAULT DIRECTORY ext_dat_dir
         ACCESS PARAMETERS
         (RECORDS DELIMITED BY ":"
         FIELDS TERMINATED BY "~"
         missing field values are null)
         LOCATION (ext_dat_dir:'test_ch.txt'))
         reject limit unlimited
    However, when I query the data in the external table using my web application, it comes back with garbage like "ÿþ1" and the like.
    To attempt to determine if the database is capable of storing the Chinese characters, I've performed the following test:
    1) I insert a Chinese character in an NVARCHAR2 field in my table by using the UNISTR function thus:
    insert into tbl_test_ch (field1) values (unistr('\3E00'))
    2) I interrogated the value using the dump function thus:
    select dump(field1, 1016) FROM tbl_test_ch
    I'm struggling to understand the output. Obviously the character set being used is "AL16UTF16" (which I would expect to be able to store Chinese characters), but the return_format argument I've provided to the function (1016) should return the hexadecimal code point of the character that's being stored. I would expect this to be the same as I inserted ("3E00"), but I'm getting the following output:
    DUMP(FIELD1,1016)
    Typ=1 Len=2 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 3e,0
    I'd really appreciate any suggestions on what I could do next to determine exactly where the problem lies. I've not been able to convince myself that the database is correctly storing the Chinese character data, but I appreciate equally that the problem could lie elsewhere.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kenny McEwan.

    Thanks, Serguisz.
    My technology stack is as follows:
    ASP 3.0 web application, running on IIS6.
    On the web servier, I have MDAC 2.8 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
    On the Oracle database server, I have Windows Server 2003 SP1.
    My Oracle database version is 9.2.0.7.
    The client I've been using in this investigation is Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.
    It does look like you're right about characters coming from the application are being corrupted. To support this, I tried to insert the chinese character 博 as well as the Unihan character 中 from a web page in my application. I then used the dump function to interrogate the contents of the field I input to thus:
    select dump(field1, 1016) FROM tbl_test_ch
    DUMP(FIELD1,1016)
    Typ=1 Len=2 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 0,bf
    Typ=1 Len=2 CharacterSet=AL16UTF16: 0,bf
    Both characters seem to have suffered the same corruption.
    The problem seems to happen in the other direction as well - even after verifying that the character detailed in the previous post was stored correctly, it is still displayed by my web app as an upside down question mark.
    Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed?
    Best regards,
    Kenny.

  • How do you save characters in an array and then output the characters as a string one by one.

    I want to know how to save a number of different characters to an array. then after open this array and read these values one by one as a string.

    Input to your loop has indexing enabled.  What happens is that on the first iteration, the indicator displays the first string in the array, then in the next iteration, the indicator displays the second string in the array, the first one is overwritten.  This happens so fast that all you see is the second one.  Look at attached vi in LV6.1 to see how to concatenate both into one indicator.  You really need to study Labview to learn the functions.  Go to NI's website and search for Labview tutorials.

    3. If the id is correct then pulled the record of the corresponding employee and stored it in the session object.do you really need to store this in session object?
    5. Now i need to set the session values in the text field of the html form which form? in a new html/jsp page? i suggest go for a JSP
    In your JSP page use JSP expression tags to put the session attributes.
    it's something like : <input type='text' name='employeeid' value='<%= session.getAttribute("employeeid") %>' >and you need to generateanother servlet for saving the details/modifications to the database.
    I think i m clear enough.
    if you need more clarifications. just try it and then post your problem.

    2) The problem is your String[][] data.... the only place I see you do anything approching initializing it is
    data = new String[numLines][];I think you want to do this..
    data = new String[numLines][3];anyway that's why it's blowing up on the line
    data[row][col]=st.nextToken();

  • How to store logical operator in an array in java

    how to store logical operator in an array in java.
    Array should not be String type if i pass an element of that array it should be considered as logical operator

    my exact requirment is like this, i need some logic
    to convert string like this "2 Equals 3 AND 4 greater
    than 7" to condition like this
    2 == 3 && 4 >7 which i can pass to if
    condition.So you want to create an expression parser?
    No need for something as ugly as what you think you need, a simple nested conditional will do it for just the few logical operations.

    I m trying to get number of repeated characters in string array. I couldnt figure out where am i doing mistake.
    thank you,

      <div spry:region="dsCALC">
        <div spry:repeat="dsCALC">
          <?php
    $foo[]='{dsCALC::DataPrice}';
    ?>
          </div>
      </div>
    <?var_dump($foo);?>
    Outputs:
    Array (     [0] => {dsCALC::DataPrice} )
    If I tried a variable, it works ok... The array, not... Any ideas?

    Outputs:
    Array (     [0] => {dsCALC::DataPrice} )
    And so it should, because that is what you told the PHP-script to do in the following line of code.
    $foo[]='{dsCALC::DataPrice}';
    Please remember that PHP code is handled on the server, whereas JavaScript (Spry) is handeld on the client (browser) end. JavaScript cannot be handeld by PHP nor can JavaScript handel PHP.
    My question to you is, why do you want to store the data in a PHP-array and how is the Spry data obtained?

  • About limit the input characters in string with xcontrol

    Hi there,
      I follow one example online to deveope a xcontrol for string input but limiting the input characters only to uppercase A to Z. I have the main code shown as follow
    In the Key down event, I discard all input character with ascii code beyond [65, 90]. This seems to works but if I keep pressing down a forbidden key (e.g. %), it will show that key in the control. So how can I ban the input by long press on one key? Thanks.

    Hi dragondriver,
    and while you're editing your VI you should use an InRangeAndCoerce function to replace two comparisons and a boolean function!
    You might even think about using "LexicalClass", but that requires additional comparisons too...

  • Store data in a String array getting from access table

    Hai all,
    i an new to java.
    i have a problem regarding database connectivity, in my bean class i have written code to retrieving data from a access table. It is successfully retrieving data as System.out.println(rs.getString(rows)) is working fine but i want to store the data in String array
    My code is like follows
    String[ ] listTitle;
    rs.next();
    for(int i;i<8;i++)
         rows="F"+i;
         System.out.println(rs.getString(rows));
         listTitle=rs.getString(rows);
    when control coming to
    listTitle[i]=rs.getString(rows);
    it is giving some error like :::: No data found.
    how to solve this any one??

    Hi,
    U r trying to get the value two times. To avoid this store the value in variable, then manipulate.
    Try this,
    String[ ] listTitle;
    String temp;
    rs.next();
    for(int i;i<8;i++)
         rows="F"+i;
        temp = rs.getString(rows);
        System.out.println(temp);
        listTitle =temp;

  • Restrict TextBox number of input characters

    Hi All,
    I have a TextBox which I want to restrict to 4 input characters.
    I can use textBox.setColumns(4); to make it display 4 characters in width for example. However it is still possible to enter many more characters.
    I ideally want to only allow 4 characters to be entered. Once they attempt to enter a fifth, it shouldn't be possible.
    Is there any easy way to implement this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Please have a look at the rawTextProperty of TextControl extended by TextBox.
    API Reference: http://download.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/api/javafx/scene/control/TextInputControl.html#rawTextProperty%28%29
    Sample Code for limiting
    final TextBox tbox = new TextBox();
    final int limit = 4;
    tbox.rawTextProperty().addListener(new InvalidationListener<String>(){
         @Override
            public void invalidated(ObservableValue<? extends String> ov) {
                 String value = ov.getValue();
                    if(value.length()>4)
                        tbox.rawTextProperty().set(value.substring(0,limit));
    });Thanks.

  • Store Hindi Characters

    Hi
    I would like to store Hindi characters in my database. I am using oracle 9 and java 1.4.2. Can anybody help me as i dont know how ? Every time i save anything it is stored as a (upside down questionmarks). and is returned as a ? (sing question)

    It depends on how much of data requires internationalization features. If the amount of hindi ( special charset ) data is more then, it makes sense to convert your database charset to UTF. If the amount of data is less, such as a few tables and few columns or maybe a schema, then you can use the NCHAR data type.
    See this sample to learn how to use NCHAR datatype to retrieve and store special characters.

  • How do you store input from keyboard into a string array

    I am trying to learn java and one of the programs I am trying to write needs to be able to accept a machine hostname at the keyboard and stuff it into a string array element. I am sure I will be using something along the lines of:
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(
                             System.in));
                   String str = "";
                   System.out.print("Enter a FQDN to look up: ");
                   str = in.readLine();
    but how do I get the input stuffed into hostname[ ].
    Any hints or assistance will be appreciated.
    Michael

    Well part of. I need to be able to take a random number of hostnames (ie. mblack.mkblack.com, fred.mblack.com, joe.mblack.com, ...) and after the user presses the enter key between each entry, the inputted information is stored in an array element. for example with the three shown above the array would look like this after the user finished.
    hostname {"mblack.mblack.com","fred.mblack.com","joe.mblack.com"};
    the algorithm would be
    Prompt for hostname
    get user input and press enter
    store hostname into array element
    prompt for next hostname or enter with no input to complete entry and execute lookup.class methods.
    I have the program written and working fine if I use a static array where I put the hostnames in the list, but cannot figure out how to get the information from the keyboard to the array element.
    Thanks for the help though, the response is very much appreciated.
