Storing and changing an external variable

Hello...
Sorry for this question, but I am trying something new to me.
I need to hold a couple of variables in an outside file that can be
incremented by user activity -- not just during one interaction
with the swf, but with every one. I have no problems with using
loadVars and I get the loadandsend process; it is just that I have
no background in cgi or asp for holding the variable and being able
to update it. I know I cannot write to a txt file -- that is what I
have been using thus far with loadVars for importing values, but
this will not help me here.
Any help with the external file to hold a variable that can
be incremented would be greatly appreciated. I know it should be a
fairly simple script -- I also know I ought to pick up php, but for
the moment -- until a greater amount of time comes my way -- I turn
to you.

You simply have the server script read and write the file:
for example JSP do that. Flash communicates with the server script
using LoadVars or XML classes.

For high volume access or where transactional integrity
requirement (money involved) is needed, having all users read and
write the same file is not recommended. For low volume activity and
not critical if a write to the file is lost, this is ok.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).

Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Welcome. I am using Photoshop CS5 and this works fine for me. Possibly Adobe has changed this in CS6. Hopefully, LarryHN will have further suggestions. Best.

Hi everybody I have a problem writing External variable from workflows; I've found example about ExternalVariableReference<T> but to use it I need to edit the xaml and to use "fixed" name and type of the external variable:

Define and change variables without redeploy

Hello there,
what i want to accomplish (and have tried in vain so far) is to define a variable 'jndi_url' for my web application and change the value for that variable without redeploying the application or restarting the weblogic server.
When i set the variable for example in the web.xml everything works, but to change the value i would have to redeploy the application. :-(
Then i experimented with a deployment plan, but that seems to configure only a predefined set of variables, like the session timeout, etc.
I thought this should be a simple task and i hope somebody can help me out.

I do use an 10 years old low-end sql / plsql-tool where I can simple and fast do sql-things like that:

select * from mytable_c where c1 = :bind1 and c2 = :bind2 ;

I would like to use oracles SQL-Developer instead of this 'old' tool,
and want to use my 'old' sql / plsql scripts
but the SQL-Developer in this matter seems is to much complicate to use,
I can do complex and big things with sql-dev,
but not simple using bind-variables ;-)( .

In other words, because the MacBook Air only has 120 gbs of hard drive space & my old hard drive, from a Lenovo, has 500 gbs of hard drive space (and I have over 120 gbs of music), I’m looking to manage my iTunes music from the external hard drive permanently. Upon attempting to access the iTunes library held on the external hard drive the following message comes up: “The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file”. Is there a way to get around this?

You will have to engage a split library which means you will have to start answering questions on this forum because you will need to learn a lot about how iTunes works in order not that have a big mess at the end of it all. It also won't be easy when the time comes to relocate it all to different drives.
You can go to advanced preferences and turn off organize media and copy to items to media folder when adding items to library. Next read about how to selectively consolidate items to the external drive.

Remember that when you start iTunes without the external drive turned on iTunes will present you with a bunch of broken links. If you have automatic downloads enabled with iCloud you may have to turn that off to prevent iTunes from repopulating your drive trying to deal with those "missing" tracks.
If you add tracks in bunches to iTunes and want them to go to different media folders you will need to either add them by holding down the option key while dragging if the desired media folder is not the one set in preferences, or by changing the media folder in preferences. Changing media folder preferences only applies to new files added, not old ones.

Loading an External Variable

Hello all,
I am having a little difficulty loading an external variable
into my flash movie.
The principle of the movie is to load some XML data and
display expected data in loop. This all works fine and as it
should.
My problem starts when I remove the internal variable used
for testing and try and insert the same variable externally, as
this will be changing depending upon the teams displays. I have
tried adding in the variable like
<param name="flashVars" value="teamName=teamA" />
and
<param name="movie"
value="flash/plasma.swf?teamName=teamA" />
And then tried using a variety of methods in AS3 to display
the name. Just getting it to trace "teamA" would be all I need, but
it is having none of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nothing seems to work when I do it. I must be doing something
wrong... I am quite new to AS3 and it is beating me into the

You can create a text file from the SQL server that writes the command like"CREATEVARIABLE "CurrYear" "Servername" "AppName" "DBName" "2005";then you can create a schedule job that would run this script which can update the variable. CREATEVARIABLE creates/replaces the current variable.

Date format is changing in presentation variable

Hello,
I have a problem with date stored in presentation variable.
I have simple prompt with calendar field (default date value is setted from repository or session variable to current date). Selected date is stored in PP_DATE presentation variable.
I have simple report with title to show the content of variable PP_DATE.
And now the problem.
When I navigate to dashboard page with this report I will get date from PP_DATE variable in some format (there is difference when I use repository or session variable). After I will push the start button I will get another date format from PP_DATE variable.

There is difference between session and repository variable. When I use repository variable I will get 'TIMESTAMP .......' from PP_DATE variable, which is the default initializer in repository variable manager. I tried to delete default initializer, but I is automatically added after saving changes.
When is the default value of prompt setted from session variable I will get another format of date from PP_DATE variable which refers to DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT = "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss.mss" (from NQSConfig.ini). I have changed DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT from standard value "yyyy/mm/dd hh:mi:ss" to "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss.mss" because I am reading some data from excel, where are dates stored in MSSQL format. But this is not the reason of my problem. I have the same problem also with standard DATE_TIME_DISPLAY_FORMAT.
The result of this strange behaviour is that I am getting errors when I am doing some calculations (for example TimeStampDiff) with PP_DATE variable. I am getting error when I am navigating to dashboard page. Everything is ok after I will push the start button.
Do you have some tips?

I want to use date prompt with default date value (from repository or session variable) and then use pp_date presentation variable from this prompt to filter my results.

I tried to change one date in initialization block from "trunc(sysdate, 'DD')" to "to_char(sysdate, 'YYYY-MM-DD')" because it is the same format as DATE_DISPLAY_FORMAT = "yyyy-mm-dd" in NQSConfig.ini
And now it seems to be working now.
I can use repository var. as default date value in my prompt and use date variable pp_date to filter my results. Report return result after navigation on it and after pushing Go button.

SCM export as SCAP: Issue with external variables

SCM can export some of the baselines as SCAP v1.0 XML files (including CPE, OVAL and XCCDF).

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured. I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video. It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop). I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results. I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver. Very annoying. I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
1. Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
2. Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/). I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).
