Storing and query japanese chars

I am storing japanese characters in a nvarchar2 column and the NLS_CHARACTERSET is UTF8. How do I insert japanese chars thru sqlplus and then query the same to confirm that they are getting stored ?

If you have access to GUI tools like iSQL*Plus or SQL Developer, try those instead of character based SQL*Plus. The GUI tools can display UTF-8 characters using proportional fonts, which support a wider number of UTF-8 characters than monospace fonts. They also allow you to enter Japanese characters in your INSERT statements simply by using your keyboard or clipboard.

  • Guide in Storing and querying Farsi characters./data

    Hi All,
    This is my first time in globalizing an application(in coldfusion). What I'm trying to do now is do some testing by creating a table, TEST_TABLE, with two columns, NAME and BIRTHDATE. I am using windows and my locale in windows is now set to Farsi. I am using Oracle 9i in UTF-8. Since Oracle9i doesn't support Farsi at this time(please correct me if I'm wrong), I set the nls_language to "Arabic" and the NLS_CALENDAR to "Persian". But still I wanna store/retrieve data in Farsi. Are my settings for Oracle correct? Any more suggestions to achieve this purpose? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Yes, I already did that. I made some tests and they're fine. Although some still need some tweaking. Anyway, I just started this thread so as to have some tips/guidelines in doing the application. Maybe there are some things that I do not know yet that I can learn from all of you. Thanks.

  • Japanese chars display in Solaris 8

    I have a sun box with solaris 8 and Windows NT. I had FTP a notepad file containing japanese text from windows NT to the Solaris Environment but whenever the file is opened in solaris using editors like vi or dtpad, some special characters appear in place of japanese chars. I have also tried :-
    -- FTP the file in binary form from windows to solaris
    -- Changing the "locale" value to ja_JP.UTF8
    -- Changing the language option to en_US.UTF8 at the login screen.
    But the problem still persists. Kindly help me out.

  • FILE_DATASTORE and non-ASCII chars

    I have created an interMedia Text index
    with the FILE_DATASTORE option, so that
    interMedia treats table entries as
    filenames and indexes the corresponding
    file on the servers's filesystem.
    But whenever the filename contains characters
    which are not part of the US7ASCII charset (like dv| _), the file is not found. But both Oracle and the operating system support these characters.
    The Oracle instance uses UTF8 as internal
    characterset. The client which stores
    the filenames in the table uses the
    WE8ISO8859P1 charset. The values in the
    database table are stored and shown correctly
    when viewed with Oracle or Java client
    programs.
    So where does the charset conversion fail ?
    The names are stored correctly, they can be
    read correctly by clients, but the indexer
    seems to use a wrong charset to translate
    the filenames stored in the database into
    filenames of the operating system.
    Do I have to apply some additonal configurations to my indexer ?

    I bump Dr. Chucks thread for a similiar problem with non-ascii chars.
    The chars show up but the sorting is a bit off.
    Example: A, Å, B, ... Z
    Should be: A, B, ... Z, Å, Ä, Ö
    In Swedish Å (the letter Aring;) is one of the last letters and should not be placed after A despite being similiar.
    Any ideas?

  • Lookup-table and query-database do not use global transaction

    Hi,
    following problem:
    DbAdapter inserts data into DB (i.e. an invoice).
    Process takes part in global transaction.
    After the insert there is a transformation which uses query-database and / or lookup-table.
    It seems these XPath / XSLT functions are NOT taking part in the transaction and so we can not access information from the current db transaction.
    I know workarounds like using DbAdapter for every query needed, etc. but this will cost a lot of time to change.
    Is there any way to share transaction in both DbAdapter insert AND lookup-table and query-database?
    Thanks, Best Regards,
    Martin

    One dba contacted me and made this statement:
    Import & export utilities are not independent from characterset. All
    user data in text related datatypes is exported using the character set
    of the source database. If the character sets of the source and target
    databases do not match a single conversion is performed.So far, that does not appear to be correct.
    nls_characterset = AL32UTF8
    nls_nchar_characterset = UTF8
    Running on Windows.
    EXP produces a backup in WE8MSWIN1252.
    I found that if I change the setting of the NLS_LANG registry setting for my oracle home, the exp utility exports to that character set.
    I changed the nls_lang
    from AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    Unfortunately , the export isn't working right, although it did change character sets.
    I get a warning on a possible character set conversion issue from AL32UTF8 to UTF8.
    Plus, I get an EXP_00056 Oracle error 932 encountered
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected BLOB, CLOB, get CHAR.
    EXP-00000: export terminated unsuccessfully.
    The schema I'm exporting with has exactly one procedure in it. Nothing else.
    I guess getting a new error message is progress. :)
    Still can't store multi-lingual characters in data tables.

  • WebUtil Using Client_Text_IO with Japanese chars

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you for your reply. Could you be a bit more specific about what this bug 3075927 really is? Is this a problem only in handling files with muli-byte chars or does it have an effect on other functions? And is there any workaround for it?

    Hi Punam.......
    Query Generator is purely used for reporting as it uses SQL which is a strong tool of reporting. Moreover you can use the query generator for Formatted Searches as well as its SQL queries may useful in creating SP Transactions Notifications, Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers etc.....

    Assuming that you can already type and display Japanese characters on your platform. In terms of db storage, you need to create a database using a character set that can stored Japanese characters such as JA16SJIS, JA16EUC, UTF8, AL32UTF8 etc. Next you need to set your NLS_LANG to the character set on your client platform, so that Oracle can convert between the client and database character sets.

  • ThrowNew() with Japanese chars went wrong

    Hi All.
    I want to throw exception that has Japanese chars from C++ code.
    char szMsg[256];
    // put Japanese chars into szMsg.
    // ... and throw exception.
    env->ThrowNew(exceptionClass, (const char*)szMsg);
    Then, in Java code, it is displayed with unreadable characters like "????".
    How can I get a readable string from C++?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your reply.
    But I'm not familiar with C++, could you tell me in detail?
    My project is compiled with _MBCS option, and I tried to convert string to UNICODE to get readable string in JNI by using
    (1) MultiByteToWideChar(...)
    const char* szErrMsg = "...."; // including Japanese character
    WCHAR szUnicodeMsg[256];
    MultiByteToWideChar(GetACP(), 0, szErrMsg, -1, szUnicodeMsg,
    sizeof(szUnicodeMsg)/sizeof(wchar_t));
    env->ThrowNew(ExceptionCls, (const char*)szUnicodeMsg);
    (2) mbstowcs(...)
    mbstowcs(szUnicodeMsg, szErrMsg, strlen(szErrMsg)+1);
    env->ThrowNew(ExceptionCls, (const char*)szUnicodeMsg);
    (3) T2CW() macro
    env->ThrowNew(ExceptionCls, (const char*)T2CW(szErrMsg));
    Result
    In case (1), unexpected string (like "B0D0F0H0J0?0") was displayed.
    (by calling Throwable#getMessage() in JNI)
    In case (2), only '?' was displayed in JNI.
    In case (3), I got the same result as case (1).
    Do you mean another way?
    Thank you.
