Storing xml in oracle 8i db

Hi,
I'm trying to store a XML string into a long coloumn in Oracle 8i database. I'm doing this thro a Stored Procedure. when the size of the XML statemene goes beyond 4000, i get the following error message on the command.execute statement
"ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested"
Has anyone come across this problem OR does anyone have a solution to this. All help is throughly appreciated.
Thank you.

OTN has some sample apps that show how to store documents in the database as CLOBs:

  • Storing  XML to  Oracle

    Hii
    I am creating a application using Swiing .
    The user(client side) stores information locally in a xml file , and whenever he has access to internet , he can connect to server , and save the data from the xml file (stored at client side) to the different tables at the server side
    It is similar to SAX Loader Application as given in OTN XML DB Samples.
    This document describes the SAX Loader Application that demonstrates an efficient way of breaking a large files containing multiple XML documents outside the database and then inserting them as a set of separate documents
    Can anybody tell me how to go abt it.
    Bcz i a dont know where to start

    i am not familiar with example "SAX Loader Application". For me you do not have to chop huge XML files to insert CLOB fields... Use "getBinaryOutputStream()" method to get output stream of clob field you selected. and than read XML file using "FileInputStream" and write to Output Stream of CLOB field. that's it.... Do not forget to flush ;)

  • How to store data from xml in oracle database

    Hello All
    Could anyone tell me ways of storing XML in Oracle and whats the best one in terms of performance issues.
    any URL to this q/s would be great.
    thanks

    Ben,
    The following link as some information regarding DOM API and XSQL.
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:2923508047773696280::NO::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID,F4950_P8_CRITERIA:17309127931717
    For XML DB, you may want to create an XMLSchema and build a table off the schema definition. Then use WEBDAV to load the xml into a folder (ie object table) Once the xml is in the database you could build a view for a relational look at the data.
    Example from XMLDB Techical White Paper doc.
    create or replace view PURCHASEORDER_MASTER_VIEW
    (reference, requestor, userid, costcenter,...)
    as select extractValue(Value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/Reference'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/Requestor'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/User'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/CostCenter'),...
    from PURCHASEORDER p

  • New to XML and Oracle

    Just trying to clarify some issues as I try and learn about XML, and specifically how it integrates into the DB.
    1 - Is there a way with Oracle tools for me to get an XSD of an existing 9i relational schema? We are not currently using the XML DB, but our middleware developers would like to have an up to date XSD to use for their internal mapping.
    2 - Is there any way that I can keep that XSD up-to-date automatically, so I get a new one whenever the schema gets updated?
    3 - If I wanted to investigate storing XML docs within the DB in native XML format, I need to have an XML DB, correct? Is this DB construct maintained seperatelly from my "normal" relational schema? or are they kept in sync by Oracle?
    I know these may all be real basic questions, but as I said, I'm new to XML and Oracle. I am reading as much as I can, but there are a lot of docs out there.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi
    1. On my opinion such a tool doesn't exists. Some parts can be implemented elsewhere, but not as described by you... e.g. with XSU if you specify the parameter "withschema" the XSD of the executed statement is generated. Another example is to use DBMS_METADATA to dump the data dictionary in XML (but not XSD, of course you could write your own XSLT to do this transformation...).
    2. -
    3. If you use XSD-based tables the XSD and the relational model are stored separately in the data dictionary. Therefore if you change the XSD you have to drop/create the XSD-based table... no schema evolution yet.

    As I recall from my 8i days (it's been many years), the only way to do this is to install the XML XDK. From http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/xml/xdk/xdk_java.html, it says "The Oracle9i versions of the XDK can also be used to build applications designed to interface with Oracle8i databases." I had thought the 10g version could do that as well but I'm not seeing it now.
    Since XMLType was not part of 8i, you will need to use PL/SQL to take your Select statement results and build them into a DOMDocument structure.
    Hope that helps.

  • Detecting changes in XML in oracle XML DB

    Is there a utility, function etc., in Oracle XML DB that checks the changes between two stored XML in XMLType table?

    This feature is introduced in 11g. See XMLDIFF and XMLPatch

  • Using XSU for Storing XML data

    Please how can I use the XSU API for storing XML documents in Oracle8i? I know part of the code to store a document but how do I import the XSU API?
    Do I have to download it or use it via Oracle?
    example:
    String xmlDoc = "my_xml_document";
    Connection conn = >>DriverManager.getConnection(...);
    OracleXMLSave sav = new OracleXMLSave
    (conn,"purchaseOrderTab");
    sav.insertXML(xmlDoc);But how do I use OracleXMLSave? How do I import the XSU API?
    thanks for your help

    What is XSU? I think you question should be posted at the XML or XDK forum.

  • Storing XML as XML

    Hi, there. Here's my question for XML gurus. What I need to do and I am currently evaluating a number of products to find ones that best fit my needs:
    1) store XML documents as they come, in their XML form in some sort of XML repository.
    2) Be able to run various queries against that XML repository. For example, if there exist a bunch of documents of DOCTYPE "blah" (among others) I need to query the repository like: for all documents of this doctype select docs that have a value of a tag <PurchaseOrder> between 11-01-2000 and 11-14-2000.
    In other words, I'd like to operate just on XML, and nothing else. Store XML and query the repository to get XML back.
    Is Oracle's XML products capable of doing something like that ? If so, which ones would I need to utilize to obtain the results. And if not, could anyone point me towards the products that are capable of doing what I need ?
    Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

The emphasis is on storing XML messages as they are, not broken up into relational representation, AND being able to query those messages on the values of the different tags contained in those XML docs.
    Can Oracle do that ?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Reading XML from Oracle directory to generate charts

    Hi,
    I have a requirement create graphs, charts and maps based on data from a data warehouse (dw).  As I see things, there are two possibilities:
    Graphs, charts and maps based on an XML file
    Graphs, charts and maps based on Oracle tables
    Both would contain small data sets that will allow for quick response.  The intent of these graphs, charts and maps is to generate a dashboard that would allow the user to quickly drill down to the desired warehouse data.
    The proof of concept has already been validated using the Oracle table scenario.  My question is whether or not this could be accomplished reading xml files for generating the same set of dashboard items?
    My Oracle database and APEX environments configuration are as follows:
    NLSRTL                 11.2.0.1.0                                                           Production
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.1.0                         64bit Production
    PL/SQL 11.2.0.1.0                                                                            Production
    TNS for Solaris: 11.2.0.1.0                                                               Production
    Application Express 4.2.2.00.11
    APEX Listener Release 2.0.2.  / Tomcat
    An Oracle database directory has been setup and is accessible to our APEX application.
    Any suggestions/help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Charles

    An Oracle Directory has an underlying OS directory associated with it, Oracle just overlays it's control structure onto an existing folder in the OS. You can manipulate the files with stored procedures in Oracle or at the OS level from outside of Oracle.
    If you manipulate the files from the OS level, outside of Oracle, you may need a refresh of the Oracle Directory structure.

  • Variablize the datatypes in the select of data from XML to Oracle

    Hi All,
    I'm new to XML to Oracle data integration. I do have clob column that has the XML data and trying to bring it into the Oracle relational tables, as a part of it we are developing PL/SQL procedure that calls this CLOB column, I want to know if we can variablize the data types ( Just like tablename.columnname%type) in the select of the XML data:
    select v.instrid, v.endtoendid, v.txid, v.cd, v.ccy,
    replace(v.intrbksttlmamt,'.',',') as intrbksttlmamt, v.chrgbr, v.bic1, v.nm1, v.adrline11, v.adrline12, v.ctry1, v.iban1,
    v.bic2, v.bic3, v.nm2, v.adrline21, v.adrline22, v.ctry2, v.iban2, v.cdtrref, v.addtlrmtinf
    from the_data w,
    xmltable(xmlnamespaces(default 'urn:iso:std:iso:20022:tech:xsd:pacs.008.001.01'),
    '/Document/pacs.008.001.01/CdtTrfTxInf'
    passing xmltype(w.the_column)
    columns instrid varchar2(300) path 'PmtId/InstrId',
    endtoendid varchar2(150) path 'PmtId/EndToEndId',
    txid varchar2(200) path 'PmtId/TxId',
    cd varchar2(50) path 'PmtTpInf/SvcLvl/Cd',
    ) v
    As you see above in the bold I do define the data types after every column name , the problem is incase there is change in datatype I do need to manually edit the procedure to change the datatype is there a way I can variablize them something like tablename.columname%type.
    Any answers are greatly appreciated.

    Two questions:
    1. Does your database have a version number?
    SELECT * FROM v$version;2. Why are you storing XML in a CLOB column rather than one of XMLType?

  • XML From Oracle

    You can use the XMLGEN package that comes with the XML SQL Utility, or use the XML SQL Utility's OracleXMLQuery class in a Java Stored Procedure of your own creation to accomplish this.

  • Need sample source code for calling stored procedure in Oracle

    Hi.
    I try to call stored procedure in oracle using JCA JDBC.
    Anybody have sample source code for that ?
    Regards, Arnold.

    Thank you very much for a very quick reply. It worked, but I have an extended problem for which I would like to have a solution. Thank you very much in advance for your help. The problem is described below.
    I have the Procedure defined as below in the SFCS1 package body
    Procedure Company_Selection(O_Cursor IN OUT T_Cursor)
    BEGIN
    Open O_Cursor FOR
    SELECT CompanyId, CompanyName
    FROM Company
    WHERE CompanyProvince IN ('AL','AK');
    END Company_Selection;
    In the Oracle Forms, I have a datablock based on the above stored procedure. When I execute the form and from the menu if I click on Execute Query the data block gets filled up with data (The datablock is configured to display 10 items as a tabular form).
    At this point in time, I want to automate the process of displaying the data, hence I created a button and from there I want to call this stored procedure. So, in the button trigger I have the following statements
    DECLARE
    A SFCS1.T_Cursor;
    BEGIN
    SFCS1.Company_Selection(A);
    go_Block ('Block36');
    The cursor goes to the corresponding block, but does not display any data. Can you tell me how to get the data displayed. In the future versions, I'm planning to put variables in the WHERE clause.

    The first solution is to not do that in java in the first place.
    DDL should be in script files which are applied to oracle outside of java.
    Other than I believe there are some existing stored procedures in Oracle that take DDL strings and process them. Your user has to have permission of course. You can track them down via the documentation.
