Strange adapter comes with 7800 GT

As I was unpacking my CTO quad that came with the 7800 GT, I noticed that it comes with the usual cords and adapters, but it also came with a small, 6 inch DVI cable that seems to do nothing more than extend the DVI port out a bit. It plugs into either one of the DVI ports and then has a similar connection on the other end that lets you plug in your DVI monitor.
Does anyone know if there is some special purpose for this cable? Does it take the DVI-I and convert it to DVI-D? Or vice versa? Or is it simply an extension cable for the DVI port? I looked very carefully and I can assure you that it is not an ADC adapter. But this is my second G5 tower (previous was a dual 2.7 G5), and there was no such adapter with the ATI 9650. Just a DVI to VGA adapter.
Doe it have something to do with "dual-link" and the ability to drive a 30" cinema display?
Also, in the packed literature for the 7800 GT, I noticed something that I thhought was a typo, but maybe it is related to this cable. It said the following:
"To connect two Apple Cinema Displays to your graphics card, you may need a DVI to DVI Adapter. If you don't have an adapter, go to the Displays Support website at www.apple.com/support/displays for more information."
Should this read..." DVI to ADC?"
What the heck would a DVI to DVI cable do? Here is where I found the statement:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/NVIDIAGeForce_7800GTGraphics.pdf
Hope someone out there has a clue about this!
Dave

Ed is exactly right. On a 7800 card (don't know about the stock video card) the connectors are too close together to plug in two of the Apple-supplied cables at the same time, so the extension (with a smaller plug on it) just gets one connecter away from the other so you can.
The extension cable female end has a small slot that accepts the spade pin from whatever type of DVI connector you wish to plug into it, like the DVI-to-VGA adapter (that comes with your G5) or the optional DVI-to-Video adapter for hooking up a TV.
In my case, the slot on the extension cable connector is too small, so neither of the 2 DVI adapters I have will plug into it. Try explaining THAT to Apple tech support! After the 3rd tech, I finally got one to ship me a replacement extension cable. The part number is different from the one that came with my G5, so I'm hoping it will be the cure. I'll know in a few days and I'll repost when it comes.
If you have a 7800 video card you may want to verify that your extension cable will mate up properly with the DVI-to-VGA adapter that came with your G5, before your warranty period is up.
The original part #: 603-8471
The new one being shipped: 922-7166

  • Mini dvi to dvi adapter interferes with airport ?

    Hi,
I am seeing slower network speed (20% of the normal speed), when I use the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter... I also have a mini-dvi-to-vga adapter which doesn't cause this network speed degradation.
I guess the dvi adapter somehow interferes with the signals the airport sends and receives. The adapter comes with a very short cable (a couple of inches), so I can't move it out of the way to reduce interference (assuming that is the issue).
In both cases, the adapters connect to the same external display (1920 x 1200) and they both work fine for my monitor. But I'd like to use the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter because of the (slightly) better picture quality.
But perhaps it's not interference, anyone else has ideas ?
Unless anyone has a suggestion, I am going to return the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter because it's pretty useless if it interferes with the airport.
For now, I'd recommend others to buy a mini-dvi-to-vga adapter for their external displays...

Yes, I have that option set... but your response reminds me that that I haven't tried setting it off, see if that makes a difference (would be quite ironical if setting off "robustness" fixed it
Since yours works, I wonder if it depends on the wireless router I use; I have a Netgear WTG624

  • Sender mail adapter sending xml attachment comes with .bin

    Hi all,
I have the following scenario: Sender Mail >> RFC
As I can receive multiples attachments I´m using payload swap bean and adapter module to get all attachments together in the first attachment.
In most cases is working very well, but in some cases the xml attachment is coming as a ".bin".
The same mail with this wrong format, when it´s been forwarded, comes with the right xml file so I can figure that is the mail format sent by vendor.
I tried to simulate this error myself and I could observe that when I change the message format from html to plain text in my outlook I get the same error, the attachments comes as .bin
Does anyone know how can I receive those mails in the right format?
    Thanks for your help!
    Vanessa

Hi Ravi, thanks for your help.
    I have configured:
    TRANSFORM > swap.keyName > Content-Disposition
    TRANSFORM > swap.keyName > Content-Description
    TRANSFORM > swap.keyName > attachment;filename="MailAttachment-1.xml"
    TRANSFORM > swap.keyName > MailAttachment-1
When the mail comes as html format is working fine, but not working when comes as plain text.
    Any Idea?
    Regards
    Vanessa

  • Lightning to 30 pin adapter with a lightning end is the same size as the cable that comes with the phone?

Has anyone found a lightning to 30 pin adapter where the lightning end is the same size as the cable that comes with the phone?  I know there have been some non-apple versions, but I can't tell if they are the same as the Apple versions where the lightnin end is slightly bigger than the cabe that ships with the phone.  Most iPhone bumpers only accomodate the original charing cabe ad the adapter cable is just slighter bigger and doesnt fit.  Also, i'm not referring to the square, cable-less adapter.

Depending on your caes I shaped mine carefully with a craft knife seems all the case manufacturers designed the cases for lightning cables but seemed blind to the adapter and it's likely use
Have you not seen the Apple adapter with .2m cable between the  plugs

will do what you want ,I use one in exactly same scenario

  • Apple Universal Doc comes with iPhone, not iPhone 3G adapter??

Adapters for the iPhone 3G are sold separately (for those with an older universal doc I would have thought). But the list of five included adapters only shows the original iPhone not the 3G.
I'm considering the universal doc instead of the 3G only dock as it looks to have a bit larger base and thus might be more stable (which is one complaint some have had about the iPhone only docks). So I'm wondering if its only that the Apple Store description has not been updated, or if it really does not come wtih a 3G adapter.

You are correct. The Universal Dock comes with adapters, but not the 3G adapters. The 3G adapters for the Universal Dock come in a package of three for $9. My Universal Dock is stable, but I can't compare it with the 3G dock. I bought the Universal Dock for a couple of reasons. One, I figure that I'll end up buying another generation something that needs to be docked. Two, I wanted a dock that not only could connect to my hdtv in my kitchen (via Component Cablel), be chargeable there (once I buy a surge protector and extension cord), but also has a remote--which comes with the Universal Dock. This little remote is handy when my hands are a little greasy or if I want to advance in a playlist without getting up and touching my 3G. The menu button on the remote doesn't do anything. I carry the iphone 3G from room to room, in the Universal Dock. I love this Dock.

  • If I purchase an iphone 6 does it come with power adapter, cable

If I purchase an iphone 6 does it come with power adapter, cable?  It kinda indicates yes but then suggests you buy them when you go to check out ?

Yes, if you buy from Apple. Scroll down this page:
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone6
to the "What's in the box" section.
High-demand Apple items like iPhones are attractive to unscrupulous resellers because people want them so badly they will take stupid actions to get one. Bad resellers may quote a price tha sounds great but then say it does NOT include the accessories that Apple ships at no cost.
Go with Apple if you are new to this.

  • Does the Zen Vision M come with the A/C power adapter in the

I'm getting a Zen Vision M, and was lead to understand it comes with an A/C adapter for recharging. Looking in Creative's shop and on amazon.co.uk , this is the list of package contents:
    ZEN Vision:M?
    Earphones
    Sync Adapter
    USB Mini-B Cable
    Pouch
    Installation CD
    User?s Manual</LI>
Does this mean it does NOT come with an A/C adapter? I really hope by 'sync adapter' they mean the A/C adapter as well?

I bought mine from Amazon when they first came out, package included the AC, USB cable and the dongle.
I've also recently bought the cradle which came with an USB cable.
The first version (mine) came with a small dongle to attach to the bottom of the ZV:M which had slots for AC, USB and AV - the cradle is the same thing but enables the ZV:M to be sat upright on its own.
I'm guessing that Creative are going down the iPlod route and providing the capacity to charge whilst docked, but external power as an extra cost.
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/p...asp?product=24 shows the cradle
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/p...asp?product=23 shows the dongle
The cradle description suggests that the AC is included, but it's not totally clear - I certainly didn't get an extra AC when I bought the cradle in April.
Best thing to do is to give them a call (0800 376 7954 so free in the UK) and ask if a plug is in either of the above packages.

  • Installing Linux on Yoga Tablet 2 Pro 13" that comes with Android

    Hello all,
has anyone yet tried to install a Linux distribution on the Tablet 2 Pro 13" to replace the Android it comes with? Does the Android version of this tablet even boot from USB media, or is locked in some way?
That tablet with Linux would just be perfect for my needs, and unfortunately the Windows variant of it is not really an option (heavier, not yet available in Europe)...
    Thanks,
    Daniel

I've experienced something very simliar. I plugged the tablet (Yoga Tablet 2 Pro 13.3) into a computer USB port by accident, then quickly disconnected while the PC was trying to install driver. After that, I could not get the tablet to charge from high power AC adapters, including one shipped with the tablet. The only way I could get the device to charge was to use a lowly Amazon Kindle AC adapter - but it was so slow I estimated it would have taken 40 hours. I reset to factory, tried all these different "tricks" from this forum, but to no avail. Just when I was ready to send it back, a firmware update was issued. I thought I would give it a go.. After the update, everything is now back to normal. But it was such an upleasant experience for otherwise an excellent device.

  • New iPod nano, comes with a USB cable and CLIP? Whats it for?

My new ipod 2gb nano comes with a usb cable and a little clip or stand type thing that the nano can sit in and at the bottom has a hole that the usb wire sort of fits through but it isn't made to sit on the desk, its more like a clip of something, any ideas what this is or how to use it?

The extra piece is the adapter for the Universal Dock. The dock has a well in it and there's an adapter for each size of iPod that goes into it.

  • World travel adapter kit with MacBook

I have just bought a travel adapter kit to use with my MacBook Pro (UK). I believe that my MacBook does have a MagSafe power connection, which the product details seem to suggest are compatible with the adapter kit. However, whilst it is obvious to me how to use my iPad and iPhone with the kit (which charge via USB), I do not understand how I connect the MacBook with the adapter kit. Please can somebody explain this to me? I need to know fairly urgently or I'll have to buy a new adapter that makes sense from somewhere else.

.. the adpater kit comes with country specific wall socket adapter plugs that you attach to your existing electrical plug.. you attach one of these adapter plugs to your Mac's power cord, then plug it into the electrical socket in the wall.. you don't touch the magsafe plug at all.
